Christina Aguilera embraced the nouveau-1980s look this week – and stole the show at Perez Hilton’s birthday party.
The diva sported big hair, a leotard and fishnets with black boots as she sang Lady Marmalade for the celebrity blogger at the Viper Room in LA.
However, she brought the outfit up to date with a diamante-studded belt to cinch in her tiny waist. The all-in-one was also leopard print – one of the hottest trends just now – and similar styles have been worn by a number of other celebrities, including Daisy Lowe.
Perez, now 31, looked very pleased with the show – and the bevy of bare-chested male dancers – as he posed for photos later on.
Meanwhile, former Spice girl Mel B has told Gloucestershire paper the Citizen how pleased she is with rehearsals for her cabaret play Peepshow, in which she has to dance in fishnets and a tiny thong.
“If they’d told me I would be doing this a few weeks ago I would have screeched, ‘Hell no!’” she enthused.
For anyone who may have been unsure about investing in leggings as the warmer weather approaches, fear not!
Regan Toomer, writing for the Atlanta Examiner’s style section, said the revamped, 21st century look of the legwear does not look set to go out of favour for the foreseeable future.
The expert said the different styles available will easily keep you going through the next few months, even if we do have a heatwave (here’s hoping!).
She pointed out that cropped capri leggings are perfect for the summertime, especially under short dresses or tunics.
This will allow you fashionistas to rock plenty of different patterns and fabrics, completely changing the effect of the clothing each time depending on how the mood strikes you.
Regan suggests wet lookleggings and those with embellishments as perfect for this season, particularly when paired with ballet pumps or gladiator sandals.
Gwyneth Paltrow certainly knows how to keep on top of the trends – we reported last week that she had already been spotted in black, cropped leggings with a long cardigan and gladiator sandals on a recent trip to the hairdresser.
While Beyonce may have shown her softer side in ballads such as If I Were a Boy recently, she intends to reveal a sexier image on her new tour which starts today (March 27th).
Creative director Thierry Mugler has unveiled an array of elaborate costumes – which include coloured leggings, fishnets and armour-like corsets – for his protogee, in order to transform her into a warrior-like Sasha Fierce.
The singer has revealed in numerous interviews that she has used Sasha as an onstage alter ego since 2003 in order to help her overcome stage fright – but it seems she’s hogging the limelight this time!
“I tried to understand these two sides [of her personality] with my own perception,” Thierry told American fashion newspaper WWD, adding that he took inspiration from “the duality between being a woman and a warrior” for the different looks. Blimey!
So, the star – although we’re not sure which version of her – will wear bustles, fishnets and skin-tight corsets, as well as yellow, red and black leggings as she belts out some of her best-known tracks for fans over the coming weeks.

Gwyneth Paltrow looked picture perfect as she left her hair salon in Beverly Hills this week wearing black leggings with a super-cute casual cardi.
The Iron Man star – who has become something of a media darling lately after working the red carpets in towering heels and designer dresses – showed off her seemingly endless legs with the cropped legwear, which really complemented her longline beige top and flat sandals.
Gwyneth, who reportedly ditched her macrobiotic diet during her second pregnancy, is about to reprise her role as Pepper Potts in the new Iron Man film.
Her fitness trainer Tracy Anderson, who also keeps Madonna looking fishnet-ready, recently revealed that Gwyneth is a more reluctant pupil than her friend the Material Girl, who follows all her fitness regimes with gusto.
However, it certainly seems to be paying off! For anyone else who wants to show off their legs, the Jonathan Aston Capri footless leggings are similar to Gwyneth’s and have a slight sheen to keep them bang on-trend.
With Milan, Toronto and Paris Fashion Weeks done and dusted, it’s now Australia’s turn to take the limelight with Melbourne Fashion Week.
And, judging by what was on show in terms of legwear, it’s time to stock up on tights and leggings to wear with everything this year!
Celebrities including Dannii Minogue and America’s Next Top Model judge J Alexander took to the front rows, as some of the world’s top names in fashion looked on at the latest trends.
According to the Australian Associated Press, leggings “dominated the shows”, providing accessory to both gothic capes and tie-dye dresses.
Black leggings, torn varieties and tie-dyed examples for the hippy chick look were shown off by Australian designer Romance Was Born, which received applause from the watching crowds.
We reported earlier this month how tights and leggings in “every colour under the rainbow” were featured in Toronto, paired with everything from skirts to jumper dresses.
Although it’s safe to say many people may not look their best when they leave the dentist, apparently this doesn’t apply to film stars.
Transformers leading lady Megan Fox was spotted in Hollywood this week wearing a long grey cardigan with some fantastic lace tights and black boots, making the outfit look casual but sexy at the same time.
The actress, who was recently voted to be the sexiest woman in the world by FHM magazine, is to appear on our cinema screens again in June when Transformers 2 makes its UK debut.
It was also revealed this week that there is to be a third film to be released in 2011, but it is not known if Megan and co-star Shia LaBeouf will be returning.
Meanwhile, Megan’s funky tights look very similar to Emilio Cavallini’s lace tights, available on the MyTights website.
They have a floral pattern all the way up the leg, as well as a back seam for added elongation.
Trinny and Susannah have offered some of their inimitable fashion advice to one well-known political personality – the Australian first lady, Therese Rein.
The international shapewear gurus – who have their own range of control pants and are known for not mincing their words on the fashion clueless – picked up on a photo of the prime minister’s wife arriving in Washington and said she could have done with extra help in the legwear department.
Therese was wearing white coat and a black shift dress with knee high boots – but she had left her legs looking nude.
“Maybe she should have worn a pair of opaques with those boots,” Trinny suggested, according to the Herald Sun, adding that this would provide some added support for the thighs and stomach.
However, Susannah quickly added that looking permanently spotless is a difficult task for today’s political figures and that she “would be petrified” in the same situation – especially when faced with the daunting task of being photographed next to new fashion icon Michelle Obama.
Trinny and Susannah are currently on a tour of Sydney after having received rave reviews for their Making Over America show in the US.
Their Magic Shapewear range is available on MyTights.com and promises to smooth and shape the legs, bums and tums of women all over the world.
If you’re after an inexpensive way to liven up an outfit for spring, look no further than leopard print tights and lace socks.
Jade Sprowson, fashion reporter for the Now magazine website, said she had spotted a fashionista at a recent show wearing peep toe shoes with her leopard print legwear and thought it looked both stylish and funky.
Meanwhile, lace socks were also suggested as a great way of girling up masculine brogue shoes, one of the hot new trends on the high street (a floaty peasant top could also be key here to prevent you looking like you’ve raided your grandad’s wardrobe).
“Both are a cute way to subtly accessorise an outfit,” Jade pointed out.
Katie Price seems to have already picked up on the leopard print tights trend – she was spotted in a pair in Malibu earlier this month as she walked along a pier with hubby Peter Andre and son Junior.
Electric blue legwear – as sported by Lily Allen during her performance at GAY last month – could be all you need to keep you looking edgy and cool all the way through to summer.
This is according to lifestyle blog The Frisky, which also spotted Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs sporting bold blue tights in the publicity shots for the band’s new album and said it is a great new trend for rock chicks everywhere.
“I vote we rock these wicked blue tights all the way to summer,” the website said, adding that a leather jacket makes a perfect pairing with coloured legwear instead of a trench coat.
Bright red lipstick is also a staple if you want to carry off this look, since it sets off the blue perfectly, it suggested.
Lily Allen pulled on her blue stockings along with a skimpy nautical-style outfit and towering suede heels as she celebrated her single the Fear going to number one in the charts in February.
A similar style is available from Falke via MyTights.com for those who want to copy her look.
While the economy may be uncertain this year, one thing’s for sure – women’s tights are big news.
Designers at Toronto Fashion Week showed off every kind of leggings and tights imaginable, from leather to lace and nylon to PVC.
“Tights in every colour under the rainbow [created] a racy, sexy vibe – whether they were paired with skirts, dresses or sweaters or worn as pants,” wrote Lacy Atalick of the Winnipeg Sun.
Purple leggings were especially popular, as were adorned varieties featuring crystals and jewels.
The wet look also held its ground, although matte and patterned also jostled for attention as the world of fashion looked on.
Leggings and tights offered a great option for pairing with the super-short mini dresses that also featured heavily on the models strutting their stuff.
Last week, we reported that Pink Tartan had showed off its collection of ’80s-style leggings as the trend for bold and bright clothing continues – perhaps it’s a reaction to all the economic gloom in the news!
