The very glamorous Drapers Etail Awards, hosted by Claudia Winkleman, were held at the Bloomsbury Ballroom in London last night, where the best of the online fashion industry were recognised.

We dressed up in our finest tights – I went for some of the new, and very sparkly, Bebaroque range (left) – and had a fabulous evening watching the catwalk and letting the champagne and canapes flow!

With a shortlist of 8 online fashion retailers, we were up against strong competition, so I was utterly thrilled that we were announced Best Specialist Etailer! Before getting rather nervous about heading up on to stage to collect our trophy, in my bright pink sparkly tights!

Falke – The perfect choice for luxury hosiery!

You’ll become a Falke convert once you try their range of luxury tights.

When you want a high-quality, luxurious pair of tights that you’ll love wearing time and time again, you’d be hard pushed to find better than Falke.

Established in Germany way back in 1895, this company is famed for its high quality hosiery, which is beautifully made, durable and well-fitting – we love how Falke’s thicker opaque tights and wool products have a shaped foot just like a sock would, meaning no slipping or rubbing on your toes.

Because of this and the fact that they come in a range of beautiful colours and weights, they are a favourite brand among celebs and often feature in the high-end fashion magazines.

There’s something to suit your every hosiery need – we’ll introduce you to some of our favourite examples here.

Opaques & Winter Wools

When it comes to opaque tights, we adore the Pure Matt 100 style, which are so thick that they’re practically leggings. They are super-soft and would look great with a short black dress – one of our favourite colours is the Sapphire, but there is a range of other bright colours and classic shades for you to choose from.

For a slightly lighter finish, you could try the Seidenglatt 70. These also have a chic glossy sheen, and feel incredibly smooth.

if you want a pair of Falke tights to wear on an everyday basis during the winter, we’d suggest the Soft Merino Wool variety. These are toasty warm but won’t make your legs itch thanks to their high-quality wool and cotton mix! And they’re even available in a ribbed variety!

Sheer Tights

If you’re brave enough to go for something with less coverage – or if you’re off somewhere a bit warmer – then you may want sheer tights.

Falke can cater perfectly for you if this is the case, with everything from bare leg-look tights to shimmering evening hosiery available at

Bare Leg Look

To look like you’re wearing nothing on your legs, go for theShelina Tights, which are like make-up for your pins and will give you a light, subtle coverage. They are also available in Hipsterand Toeless so would be perfect for teaming with party wear or, looking further ahead, for the summer.

Shimmery Sheers

The Seidenglatt 15 variety are what you want for an evening out, as they come in some great colours and have a lovely shimmer – we love the Brenda hue, which is a rich brown.

Matt Sheers

Finally, for fantastic durable tights that you could wear all day at work, the Pure Matt 20s should be a wardrobe essential. They are feather-soft and have a matte finish which will have you feeling confident and stylish as you do your jobs in the office.

Clearly, we’ve only touched upon Falke’s range here to give you an idea of some of the basics they produce, but there is an array of other products at

The company also produces hold ups and stockings, as well as socks. Not only this, but there aremen’s socks too, so once you’ve converted to Falke, you can persuade the man in your life to do the same!

Have a browse and once you’ve bought and tested some Falke luxury, leave us a review to let us know what you think.

Looking great in the office ‘is getting much easier’

While once us girls were limited to trouser suits when it came to office outfits, there is now so much choice that we can actually look fashionable as well as smart.

This is according to Company magazine’s Oonagh Brennan, who said that there is now a wealth of options available, whether you want a boyish look or a more strong feminine feel.

"It’s not just boring, bog standard, school uniform type of stuff," she insisted, suggesting that a white shirt with a waistcoat could be a good look for 2010, as could tailored bodycon dresses.

A recent report by Mintel found that a quarter of women don’t mind paying more for good quality work clothes, while one in ten girls has bought smarter workwear in the past 12 months to get ahead.

For a stylish yet fashionable look, you could pair your office clothes with some elegant opaque or sheer tights from

We love Trasparenze Amleto Tights, which have a smart diamond net pattern and would look fantastic with a knee-length pencil skirt.

Rihanna goes to dinner in funky fashion tights

She’s very edgy when it comes to her style, so it was no surprise to see Rihanna wearing another pair of funky fashion tights this week.

We spotted her a few months back wearing a pair of cut-out opaques and it seems that she liked the look so much, she went out and got another, albeit slightly different, pair.

Instead of being cut-out all around, these just had a pattern running down the side of each leg – but it created a more subtly sexy look than we’re used to seeing her in.

Rihanna was heading out to dinner with her new beau Matt Kemp, who plays baseball for LA Dodgers. The romance seems to be going well, as she was also papped on holiday with him recently too!

For hosiery like Rihanna’s latest style, you could try Emilio Cavallini‘s Holes Tights, which look really futuristic.

However, for a more toned-down look that would suit a more casual night out, we also stock Aristoc Ladder Black Tights at, which always get plenty of admiring glances.

Pretty Polly – one of our best-loved brands!

If there’s one name that’s synonymous with affordable hosiery to cover your every eventuality, it’s surely Pretty Polly.

It’s a brand that everybody knows, but also one that has continually worked to create the most innovative designs and styles guaranteed to work for every woman, whether they want tights for work or for going out in.

Pretty Polly was launched way back in 1919 and has a string of ‘firsts’ under its belt – first company to create hold ups, first to create low-cost support tights, first firm to advertise tights on television and first to team up with celebrities to promote the newest styles.

In fact, you probably remember each high-profile celeb announced as the legs of Pretty Polly; Rachel Stevens, Jamelia, the Sugababes, Escala … the list goes on, but you get the idea.

Even in the noughties, when there are many great hosiery companies vying for our attention, Pretty Polly has continued to push the boundaries – its collaboration this year with Henry Holland has created the most coveted collection of tights we’ve seen in ages.

As we said, Pretty Polly is all about quality, innovation and style at a price that doesn’t exclude those without the budget of Victoria Beckham.

Here at MyTights we have wide range of Pretty Polly styles, so we’ll give you a quick run-through of what we think are Pretty Polly’s best buys.

The Nylons range is our best-selling collection from Pretty Polly. The Nylons range is inspired by vintage glamour, designed to combine the glossy glamour of yesteryear with the fit of today. They are available in a range of different finishes, including shiny, glossy and matte, our absoloute favorites are the Lace Top Hold Ups, with their elegant sheen and glamorous lace.

Pretty Polly really come into their own when it comes to sheer tights – the Naturals range are barely off our legs in the summer as they look so… well, natural, but better than bare legs. Try the 8-denier Natural Sun Oil Tights a gorgeous silky shimmer.

The Italia range are great for all occassions and leave your legs looking healthy and flawless, we love the glamorous Italia Sheer Gloss tights!

Absolute Legs

The Absolute Legs range are perfect for every modern girl, with their very fashionable take on classic sheer tights. We love the Patterend Bikini Tights, and the very on-trend Mock Hold Ups!

Opaque Tights

For opaque tights, a wardrobe staple should be Pretty Polly Soft Opaques, which are heavenly soft but also give you plenty of coverage. The 100-denier Nylon Opaques are also great warm tights for this time of year if you don’t want to wear trousers but also don’t want to freeze.

For a little fun, Pretty Polly also has some great patterned tights – check out our website for their wonderful selection of argyle patterned tights, animal print tights, and expensive-looking lace tights, as well as party perfect sparkley tights.

House of Holland

If you’re stocking up on Pretty Polly tights, we highly recommend you pick up at least one pair of the best-selling Henry Holland tights we mentioned earlier.

This range has been a nation-wide sell-out and have been seen on the legs of all the coolest girls, from Alexa Chung and Agyness Deyn to Lily Allen and Pixie Geldof.

Keep your eye out for the new range this year…but you’ve got to be quick – they’re set to be another sell-out!

We also have a wide range of Pretty Polly’s other styles, including Silver Fresh (no more smelly feet in your work shoes) and Secret Slimmer (for that super-toned silhouette).

Leggings – Forget practical and choose exciting!

Although leggings are great as a practical accessory for under your dresses, you should choose embellished and textured styles if you want to keep your finger on the fashion pulse.

This is the advice of Models Direct, which acknowledged that it was basic styles which made us fall back in love with leggings a few years ago, but said that it is the new types which have allowed the romance to continue.

It recommended choosing leather, sequined, denim and embellished varieties of leggings to add maximum style to your outfits.

For example, a rock chick ensemble of a batwing-sleeved t-shirt dress and short boots will look good with plain black or grey leggings, but it will look great with wet look leggings!

If you want to add a wintry feel to your dresses at present, you could opt for velvet leggings such as those from Jonathan Aston at

However, when it comes to a wardrobe staple for going out, we love MbyM’s Wet Look Leggings, which are super-shiny and will really turn heads.

Grey tights ‘will let you embrace the nautical trend’

At this time of year, we love looking forward to what is arriving in the stores for the first months of spring.

However, all this snow has left us in something of a style rut – we’re living in woolly jumpers at home and layering up as many tops as we can for work.

As usual though, you can cleverly get ahead and wear next season’s trends if you apply layering and complementary hosiery.

Olivia fisher of My Fashion Life points out that a huge trend is set to be nautical chic in the spring, but you can fast forward it to now by swapping shorts and bare legs for grey opaque tights.

She said that grey is the perfect partner to vests and longline cardigans with blue or white piping and gold buttons, plus tights will keep your legs warm and let you wear your winter boots too.

We agree – grey tights suit most skin tones and also look fab when paired with bright colours. You could go for wool tights now, then lower the denier as it (hopefully) warms up.

Levante‘s 50D Suede Matte Opaque Tights will be perfect for that period just before summer when you don’t quite dare get your legs out!

Patterned tights ‘will give you a playful edge’

If you want to liven up your outfits for a fun look this winter, you should try some patterned tights.

Melissa Magsaysay of the Los Angeles Times, writing for the Olympian, said they will add a playful quality to anything you wear, which could cheer you up if you’ve got the January blues.

"Patterned tights play well this time of year, breathing new life into existing pieces and adding a pop of unexpected texture," she enthused, recommending anything lacy, striped or dotty to fashionistas.

However, Melissa also said there is plenty of room for single-coloured tights, with grey or white great for pairing with a vintage dress and lace-up ankle boots and black fab for slimming the legs.

When it comes to dotty tights, you still can’t beat Gerbe‘s Plumetis style, which is a Vogue favourite too.

For nice thick white hosiery however, we love Falke‘s Elegance Cashmere Blend Tights.

Leggings – ‘the fascination will continue’ in 2010

If you embraced 2009 as the year of leggings and exciting hosiery, then be prepared to enjoy much of the same in 2010.

This is according to Elizabeth Wellington, fashion expert at the Philadelphia Enquirer, who predicts that wet look leggings and those with embellishments like studs will continue to be a major trend over the coming months.

"The legging fascination will continue … Pair your liquid leggings with a sheer blouse over a cute cami and with a men’s-style blazer," she advised.

Wet look leggings are great and we have some fantastic ones available at from MbyM.

However, if you want to try another trend that the celebs are already embracing, how about catsuits and bodysuits?

Jennifer Lopez wore a skin-tight nude catsuit on New Year’s Eve, while Beyonce has also been snapped in one.

If you want to try something similar for a night out, Jonathan Aston‘s Wet Look Body Stocking could be perfect. Opaque from above the bust to the toes, it would be perfect with a miniskirt – or without if you’re really brave!
