Ever heard of the phrase ‘a dog looks like its owner’? Well now I can see where that came from! Everyone’s gone dotty for Dalmatian spots and the trend has been all over the catwalks. Stella McCartney even used her childhood pet; a Dalmatian named ‘Lucky’ as inspiration for her collection and projected images of the beloved canine all over the walls of her show whilst models strutted their stuff.

A brilliant way to reference this trend without going barking mad is through tights! Celebrities like Cheryl Cole, Alexa Chung, Diane Kruger and Peaches Geldof get it spot on with their dotty numbers and guess what, you can too with Gerbe Plumetis polka dot tights (pictured) at MyTights. If you’re thinking this reminds you all too much of Cruella De Vil, don’t dismiss this trend just yet! Luella‘s S/S collection featured a cute Mini Mouse take on the trend with fat splodges rather than mini polka dots. · Wear with florals or if you’re feeling fashion forward then clash it up with stripes.

· Wear them with shorts and pumps like Peaches or with a pretty little tea dress and artsy heels.

· Try them on a night out with a sporty mesh dress in a bold shade.

· Wear with contrasting socks over the top to add texture.

When pops was traipsing around idly in last summer’s heat wave with his socks tucked neatly into his sandals we kept a few paces behind! Who would’ve guessed Dad was indulging in a future trend!

With the likes of Burberry, Parda, Dior, John Galliano, Hermes and Givenchy fading one of the golden rules of fashion into oblivion it is safe for us buddingfashionistas to break the mould and test this trend for ourselves.

Celbrity fans of this trend include Fearne Cotton, Leighton Meester, Chloe Sevigny and Lily Cole!

As with most trends, there are different ways you can choose to communicate this look. Hermes’ S/S collection took us to the tennis court and opted for monochrome with a striking contrast of black socks and strappy white sandals, whilst Burberry executed the look teaming scrunched down knee socks in pebble hues for a safari take on things. • Contrasting tones of socks and shoes give a youthful, arty look, whereas shoes & socks in the same colour provide you with long lines.
• Keep the shoes well heeled and chunky for a modern look and to avoid appearing frumpy.
• Think lace detailing and candy colours, NOT your old socks that you wear for aerobics!
• Team ankle socks with oxford brogues for a take on the ‘Female Dandy’ or bright white knee highs with clogs for the ‘Milk Maid’ look that is so typical of Chanel this season.
• Knee highs also look great with Mary Janes for an Alice in Wonderland inspired look (a look, which fashion innovators have become fanatical about)!
