Cool Summer Style

With the temperature reaching 30°C in some parts of the UK over the weekend, it might be tempting to throw off your tights even if your bare legs aren’t ready to face the world. Luckily, thanks to clever hosiery technology and plenty of experience, the MyTights team has got some top tips to help you stay cool in the heat and keep your hosiery-clad legs looking fabulous.

Elastane-Free Tights

Elastane (also known as Lycra or Spandex) in tights can sometimes make you feel hotter, even in very lightweight sheers, but many hosiery brands have developed brilliant elastane-free yarns especially for summer tights-wearers. These elastane free tights, offer a bare leg finish, and still have stretch and recovery. Pretty Polly’s Almost Naked tights are made in a barely-there 5 denier Sideria yarn and are so light on your skin that you’ll hardly know you’re wearing them. We also love Falke’s Shelina tights which are made entirely from super-fine polyamide yarns but contain a tiny amount of elastane in the waistband to ensure the best possible fit at the waist.

Suspender Tights

Some women find it’s having that extra hosiery layer over the top of their underwear that makes them feel hot, and if you’re one of them you could think about switching to suspender tights for the summer. With the look of stockings and suspenders but none of the fuss of attaching garter belts, suspender tights have an open brief area which allows air to circulate and can help you stay cool. For everyday wear, Charnos’ Boudoir Bodyfree suspender tights and Trasparenze’s Strip Panty suspender tights are simple, unadorned styles with plain legs which will be indistinguishable from your normal everyday sheer tights.

Pretty Polly Pretty Cool

work from home part time

If you’re worried about the possibility of the suspender tops showing under your workwear but like the idea of ventilation in your tights, Pretty Polly Pretty Cool tights are designed with an open gusset and are made in a 100% polyamide yarn but in every other aspect are just like everyday 15 denier tights.

Hold Ups

Similarly, it can be more comfortable to wear hold ups instead of tights during the summer months as they allow more air to circulate where you’d usually have the brief of your tights. It’s important to remember with hold ups that the silicone bands that keep them up are less effective if they become coated in moisturiser or talc, so be careful not to overdo the body lotion should you choose to wear hold ups. Pretty Polly’s Almost Naked ultra-sheer and elastane-free style is available as hold ups which are perfect for achieving a bare-leg effect, or try Charnos Sheer Lustre hold ups: the elegant shiny finish leg is finished with a unique ElasTAC silicone band which is designed to be especially stretchy, comfortable and extra secure.

Nets and Lace

Fishnet tights and lace tights are brilliant for summer as they look fantastic and allow your skin to breathe. They’ll add interest to a simple outfit and the eye-catching pattern will draw attention away from less-than-perfect pins, so they’re a great addition to summer party looks. There’s no need to stick to black either, when Pamela Mann’s Fishnet tights and Wild Flower lace tights come in so many summery shades.

Whatever the weather brings, you don’t have to give up your tights to stay cool, so get shopping for your perfect summer hosiery wardrobe now!

Happy Shopping!

Glastonbury’s Best Dressed

katemoss_glasto_fishnetsOnce described by the Guardian’s Hadley Freeman as ‘the world’s muddiest catwalk’, this year’s Glastonbury Festival was held on the hottest weekend of the year so far with not a raincloud to be seen. But that didn’t stop all our favourite celebs from showing off their fashion savvy in an array of different hosiery looks.

how to last longer in bed

Harry Potter star Emma Watson made the headlines for pairing a Louis Vuitton corset top with her denim cut-off shorts, but it was her stylish yet sensible welly boots and over-the-knee socks combo that caught our eye. Prepared for the possibility of rain, but not risking ‘welly rash’ with bare legs in her rain boots, over-the-knee socks like Emma’s are a festival essential. We love Pamela Mann’s Over Knee Socks and Striped Over Knee Socks, in a range of colours to tone with any outfit – even a Louis Vuitton corset!

Festival lover Pixie Geldof also wore knee high socks throughout the weekend at Glastonbury, but as one of Henry Holland’s closest friends, Pixie has already got her hands on next season’s Henry Holland for Pretty Polly knee highs and paired two different styles with thigh-skimming shorts and skirts and flat ankle boots. While we sadly can’t get next season’s HH for PP early for you (but keep your eyes peeled later this year!), we have still got this season’s styles in stock, so bag yourself a pair of super-stylish tights now and wear them to the festivals that might not be so lucky with the weather.

Fishnets were the surprise hit of the weekend, though, with Kates Moss and Nash both hanging out backstage in shorts and fishnet tights. Ms Moss chose a holey black pair under her denim shorts while Kate Nash wore subtle flesh-coloured fishnets with her ultra-colourful shirt and shorts outfit. Fishnets are a great idea for summer festivals as they’ll add an element of rock’n’roll edge to any outfit without making you hot. Get the look with Levante’s Fishnet Tights in black or natural beige, or take a look at Pamela Mann’s Fishnet Tights in a whole rainbow of colours.

We also spotted hot model and music fan Daisy Lowe in this season’s hot hosiery trend, mock stockings. Daisy paired her cropped vest top and teeny-weeny denim shorts with a gorgeous black patterned pair, and you can get her look with the beautiful Trasparenze Ciprea tights, which feature a pretty lace mock stocking top and white polka dots on the leg. Or try Trasparenze’s Renella tights, which also have a beautiful stocking top pattern, plus mock suspender straps for seriously sexy festival style.

With plenty more festivals throughout the summer, take your inspiration from this year’s Glastonbury style stars and make super-cool tights and socks a part of your festival look.

Bridal Hosiery & Shapewear Sorted

On your wedding day you’ll want to feel beautiful from head to toe and from inside to outside, and whilst you probably won’t need any help from us to find your dream gown, we can offer a wealth of advice on sleeking your curves into shape and getting picture-perfect pins.

solar panels for home

Looking your best is all about feeling confident, and for some brides-to-be that means shedding a few unwanted pounds before the big day. If the idea of the gym fills you with dread or you struggle to fit regular workouts around your schedule, try wearing one of the amazing ShaToBu shapers every day in the run up to your wedding. These streamlining shapewear shorts incorporate resistance bands which help your muscles work harder: research has shown that wearing ShaToBu for at least 12 hours a day, 7 days a week can increase your calorie burn by 12% – over a year, that’s 30,000 extra calories burned!

For a toned silhouette under your wedding dress, a shaping slip can help to smooth out your problem areas. Trinny and Susannah’s All in One Body Smoother is an open front style which will define your waist and slim down the back, tummy, bottom hips and thighs, whilst giving you the freedom to wear whatever bra you choose. Alternatively, brides opting for strapless gowns should try the Spanx Hide and Sleek Strapless Full Slip, which offers a total-body smoothing effect and has no visible seams so it makes a great base under even super-fine fabrics.

It is of course traditional for blushing brides to wear stockings underneath their dresses, and for those who love the look Falke’s Seidenglatt stockings give legs a glossy finish and either the off-white or nude shades will finish your look perfectly. Falke’s Tulle suspender belt in white or nude will secure them in style. If you’re more of a hold ups girl, Trasparenze’s Athena Bridal hold ups have a gorgeous deep lace top and come in white or ivory so you can match them easily to your gown. And while we’re talking time-honoured traditions, snap up the Aurora Bridal Garter by Trasparenze in white with a ribbon trim in French navy for a super pretty ‘something blue’,

More and more brides are putting convention to one side and opting to stamp their own personal style on their wedding day to make for a uniquely special occasion, and if you’re one of them you’ll love the selection of unusual bridal styles we have available. For super-luxe try Bebaroque tights, they are hand-embellished with everything from pearls crystals! For a quirky, inexpensive option Jonathan Aston’s Sweet Roses lace hold ups are available in ivory and would add a touch of vintage style to an elegantly simple ensemble.

If all the white, ivory and cream is too much for you, choose your shade from Jonathan Aston’s Sheer Coloured tights – whether you want ultra-girly pale pink or a rich, opulent red, there’s a pair to suit every mood for gorgeous statement-making legs on your big day.

Whatever your style, ensure that no-one can outshine you on your wedding day with beautiful bridal hosiery from MyTights.

SUMMER HOLIDAY ESSENTIALS

If you’re about to jump on a plane and jet off to an exotic destination for your holidays, lucky you! But you didn’t think we’d let you go without passing on some of our holiday hosiery wisdom did you? We’ve got the socks, tights and accessories you need to keep your legs and feet feeling fine and looking divine – you can be sure the MyTights team will be packing these essentials in their cases.

Flight Socks

Holidays are often a chance for most of us to let loose and sometimes our fastidious care of our bodies can be forgotten. One thing that’s really important to remember is the increased risk of developing a deep vein thrombosis (DVT) during long-haul flights. When you’re sitting for long periods as you are on long flights the circulation in the legs can become sluggish and cause blood to pool in the calves and ankles. DVT occurs if this collected blood builds up into a clot in a deep vein and it can cause painful swelling.

Luckily, it has been shown that compression or support hosiery is effective in reducing the risk of DVT. Flight socks, such as the Scholl Cotton Feel Flight Socks, are specially made with compression which is at its firmest at the ankle and gradually lessens towards the knee. This helps to boost blood flow back up the legs so you have less chance of developing clots. DVT is a serious condition which can affect anyone, so make sure you pop your flight socks on before jetting off for a healthy, happy start and end to your trip.

Bare Leg Look Tights

For those who are taking off to somewhere hot and sunny it can be tempting to throw caution to the wind and bare your sun-starved legs as soon as you land, but you don’t have to! Pretty Polly’s Naturals range is super-sheer so you’ll look almost like you have bare legs and you can choose a shade that will add a hint of sunkissed colour to your legs before you hit the sunloungers or the beach. Choose the Open Toe tights to wear with your sandals or the Non-Slip Sole tights which will help to stop your mules from slipping off.

Shoe Accessories

We bet you’ve bought a whole new wardrobe for your holiday, right? Well, if you’ve bought new shoes, it might be a good idea to pack some Levante Shoe Monkeys Strap Strips to stop those strappy sandals rubbing your feet, and for those planning to hit the dancefloors in Ibiza, Ayia Napa or anywhere else for that matter, slip some Scholl Party Feet Heel Cushions inside your dancing shoes to make sure you can keep going all night without the balls of your feet burning. Sore, blistered feet aren’t going to bring you happy holiday memories, so make sure you look after them.

WHAT DO I WEAR AT THE WEEKEND?!

Now, even if it’s sunny outside it doesn’t mean every inch of flesh needs to be on show to stay cool and look summery. Picking out an outfit for a summers day can leave you in a sweat even before you’ve left the house, so MyTights have decided to save you the hassle and do it for you.

Outfit No.One – Picnic in the Park: Cucumber sandwhiches? Check! Pimms and Lemonade? Check! Perfect outfit? Check! Flowy dresses are perfect for picnics, because they cover you up when you sit cross legged and also allow for stomach expansion after copious amounts of treats. And if you haven’t got a checkered blanket, don a checkered shirt smock dress instead – it’s the perfect substitute! Plus Christopher Kane showcased numerous checked items for his S/S collection, so you’ll look fashion savvy and bang on trend if you opt for the picnic print. Don’t forget sensible footwear, wear with braided sandals with an ankle strap, they’re easy to throw on and add some rugged cuteness to an otherwise girly look. A light sweater is crucial for any day spent sitting outside, so layer up with a perforated cardigan in an ice cream shade too!

Outfit No. 2 – Pub Lunch: You may be a long way away from the jungle, but you can still give your outfit a safari twist at your local. It’s a key look this season, but to get it right, reference the trend rather than be a slave to it. Wear hessian combat shorts that can turn up to reveal a tanned thigh and team with a well fitted white shirt with puffed sleeves – the contrasting accents of beige and white will make the outfit pop. Tuck the shirt in to provide yourself with great lines and add a tan leather belt. To look ultimately chic wear chunky sandals in khaki/grey hues (Typical of Burberry Prorsum this season) and add white ankle socks.

Outfit No.3 – BBQ!: Cooking BBQ’s can be messy and eating at them can be too! You’ll no doubt go home wearing more tomato ketchup than you ate, but that doesn’t mean we can’t all look fashionable in the process! MyTights are recommending our brand new Pamela Mann Ditsy Pink Floral Tights. Team these with a cute baby doll dress or some denim shorts and a chiffon blouse in similar hues. As for footwear, opt for wedges with ankle straps, they’ll allow for mucking in with the kids or for you standing looking pretty!

From all of us at MyTights, have a lovely weekend!

Footless Favourites…

It might be nearly July but the weather is as unpredictable as ever, and when you don’t know whether you’ll end up getting caught in a cloudburst or basking in blazing sunshine choosing your outfit can be a nightmare. The answer to this dilemma is layering, and footless tights and leggings are the perfect base for every summer outfit and a great standby to pack for summer festivals, helping you combat unexpected downpours and gale-force winds in style.

Classic Footless Tights

A great pair of basic footless tights or leggings is a wardrobe essential no-one should be without, and the Falke Cotton Touch Footless Leggings (as featured in the Guardian Weekend Magazine this month) are a perfect staple, especially in goes-with-everything black. With 43% cotton they’re super-soft and comfy too. Wear them under your miniskirts, shorts, dresses, tunic tops … Well, wear them with everything! Plus they’re a real bargain from top quality brand Falke and you’ll wonder how you ever did without them. Fuller-figured girls will love Pretty Polly’s Xxtra Opaque Footless Tights, which have been created specifically for sizes 20+ to fit your curves perfectly.

Slimming Footless Tights

For everyday footless tights with a slimming effect, try Spanx Tight-End Convertible Leggings. These legendary control-top leggings will trim inches off your thighs, bum and tum, and give you a gorgeous shape, but that’s not all they do. You can choose to wear them at the ankle or tuck them under the heel so now you can have that slimmed-down silhouette and adapt it to your personal style – perfect to give you a confidence boost under a laid-back outfit for that casual first date.

Fashion Footless Tights

Footless tights don’t have to be basic, though: they also offer a simple and inexpensive way to update your look with this season’s trends. Many designers showed a sportswear influence for Spring/Summer 2010 including Balenciaga, Gucci and hot new talent Alexander Wang, and you can get the look by layeringPamela Mann’s 3D 50 Denier Footless Tights under jersey and mesh pieces. There’s a huge range of colours available to match with any outfit, and at just £5.10 there’s no reason to choose just one. Try the fluorescent pink, orange or green for an attention-grabbing 80s spin on the sporty trend.

Working footless tights and leggings into your evening look is easy too. The fashionista’s favourite hosiery brand Jonathan Aston offers these Metallic Footless Tights which will give your little black dress a dose of Studio 54 disco cool paired with towering heels, or take a walk on the wild side in the Jonathan Aston Footless Animal Print Tights.

There’s no denying that footless tights and leggings are here to stay, so click here to view our full range and get layering!

ISLE OF WIGHT FESTIVAL FASHION!

Festival season is upon us and it officially kicked off at Isle of Wight! Those that were lucky enough to attend got to enjoy killer performances by JayZ, Florence and the Machine, Paloma Faith, The Saturdays, Mariana and The Diamonds, Pink, NDubz and loads more. Backstage there was a Ray-Ban corner where the likes of Kate Moss and Alexa Chung hung and a beautiful Moroccan bazaar area courtesy of H&M to chill out and charge your phones. The weather even managed to behave and stay dry for the entire weekend, oh well, those wellies looked good anyway! But what the MyTights’ team are more interested in is what everyone was wearing…

Pink played up to one of her biggest hits and got the party started when she was lowered onto the stage by a 100ft wire making for one of the most dramatic entrances yet. Whilst the rest of us would be scared sensless at the thought of this, Pink managed to do it whilst belting out a tune and looking deliciously rock in a short black mini dress and fishnet tights. Paloma Faith followed suit, when she also donned black fishnets with a fabulous animal print floor length coat, matching body and exotic headwear. We love Paloma’s kooky outfit choice, but The Saturdays managed to bring some unexpected glamour to the festival when they were clad in the season’s staple of floral playsuits by fair trade fashion brand, People Tree. The girls gave their outfits a twist Pink would be proud of when they teamed their playsuits with fishnet tights! You can get the look at mytights with Pamela Mann Fishet Tights!

Another songtress who never lets us down in the style stakes is Florence and the Machine. She opted for one of the most controversial looks of the summer, socks and sandals. Her butterscotch ankle highs married with her purple/brown open toe wedges complimented her vintage inspired outfit perfectly, which she achieved with a picnic-like wicker handbag, pastel tea dress and fringed leather jacket in the exact shade as her wedges! Even her team looked fabulously festival ready (obviously inspired by Florence) when they were sporting graphic printed leggings with over sized Tees and headscarfs!

Sting’s daughter, Coco Sumner looked effortless and cool too when she graced the stage in red hotpants, biker jacket and sheer black tights. Pixie Geldof chose to dress simply and must have been feeling patriotic, or perhaps supporting the World Cup, when she worked a plain white tee with an England flag and matching sweatband with black leggings, raybans, undone hair and copius amounts of wrist brands. Wish you could look like this with minimum effort? You can with Falke Prisca Leggings at MyTights!

You don’t need to be a festival goer to dress like one, check out Festival Fashion in Laura’s Choice or if you are heading off to the next festival – get your inspiration and top tips for outfit choice here at Mytights.com.

FESTIVAL FASHION

pixiegeldof_festival_overkneeSo the waiting is over and festival season is finally upon us! Kicking it off in style this weekend are heavy-hitters T in the Park, Download and the Isle of Wight Festival and we’re expecting a mixed bag of weather, so here are our MyTights tips for festival survival.

Don’t: leave home without your wellies

And more importantly, don’t attempt to wear your wellies without socks! Not only might you end up with what festival first-aiders have termed ‘welly rash’, but there’s no excuse not to when Pixie Geldof has been spotted with her over-the-knee socks peeping over the top of her super-chic croc print rain boots. Try these Pamela Mann Over Knee Socks, £5.35 – they contain 81% cotton so they’ll keep you cosy if you end up battling the elements, but will allow your skin to breathe if you’re lucky enough to see the sunshine.

Do: wear your summer shorts in all weathers

Just make sure you pack some tights to wear underneath.  At Californian mega-festival Coachella earlier this year, Heroes Hayden Panettiere was spotted pairing her denim cut-offs with a pair of black polka dot tights similar to Trasparenze’s Irus Tights, £11.45 – a smart move which fended off the cold of the desert at night.  Festival-goers at May’s Radio 1 Big Weekend in North Wales were blessed with gorgeous weather, but that didn’t stop Cheryl Cole making a hosiery statement on stage, wearing her ultra-short military style hotpants with glossy finish tights for a super-glam festival look that’s easy to copy in Pretty Polly’s bargain Italia 10D Gloss Tights, £2.50.

Don’t: think socks and sandals are just for grannies

It’s true: socks and sandals are officially cool.  Fashionista Chloe Sevigny, always at the head of the style pack, was spotted at last year’s Coachella rocking the look and after socks with sandals appeared all over the Spring/Summer 2010 catwalks, there was no doubt that this would be a huge trend this year.  We love the Trasparenze Monique Ankle Socks, £3.55, which are available in loads of colours and are an inexpensive way to make last year’s summer dresses and playsuits look bang up-to-date.  Or try Celeste Stein’s New Age Floral Socks, £5.95, scrunched down to the ankle for a hint of girly geek-chic cool.

Do: be prepared for anything

Make sure that nothing can take the fun out of your festival, and be prepared come wind, rain or scorching sunshine.  And we’re not just talking sunscreen – dancing around in your gladiator sandals can take its toll on your feet, so prep your shoes with some Levante Foot Petals, £4.00, to stop straps rubbing.  Throw a pair of leggings (or two) into your bag as well: they won’t take up much room and you’ll be happy you did when the heavens open unexpectedly! Jonathan Aston’s Snake Print Leggings, £30.00, have a funky print which will look cute under dresses, shorts and tunic tops. Take a look at all of our festival fashion for more ideas…

And last, but certainly not least:

Do: have a fantastic time!

GET SUMMER COOL WITH GRUNGE!

alexachung_festival_overkneeSummer’s hottest catwalk trends are made for looking casual, effotlessly cool and festival ready. We’re loving the return to grunge with chunky boots, battered leather jackets and a heavy focus on layering. In actual fact grunge style used to be about wearing vinatge clothes as an anti-fashion statement and mis-matching items seemed to be the secret formula – girlie dresses with Doc Martens, floral with leather, pink with punk.

But the trend that has been simmering and bubbling under the surface is now impossible to miss. We saw it at Alexander Wang with his combination of corsets and sweatshirts, Meadham Kirchoff’s floaty dresses and heavy stompy boots and Marni’s femine blouses worn over vests that were teamed with slouchy, stripy leggings. These catwalk looks are not out of reach, be inspired and emulate them with the help pf Mytights. Jonathan Aston Footless Ringers are indeed ringers for the ones seen in Marni’s S/S collection.

Celebrities like Courtney Love and Pixie Geldolf have been donning this look for sometime now, it’s almost become their signature look, especially as they’re often seen wearing oversized checked shirts with ripped tights and bold lippy. If you’re already queen of grunge and have made the floral dress and boot combo your own then update your look this summer with Jonathan Astons’ fishnet shorts. Wear with your faithful boots and layer up a ruffled blouse over a perforated vest, like the girls at Marni’s show.

If your not sure if this is for you, perhaps just a nod to a trend like grunge is more in keeping with your style, in which case pay attention to detail. The casual mood of grunge can be channelled via a sequinned sweatshirt, a pair of wellies and over the knee socks or knee high socks. Pixie Lott and Alexa Chung did just that with their festival looks. Pixie glammed up grunge with some metalic silver hotpants, red hunter wellies and grey over knee socks, whilst Alexa played up to the trend with a leather jacket, denim cut offs black over knee socks and patent wellies.

Have fun reinventing this trend, if it makes you easier to spot in a crowd – you’re on the money!

THANK SPANX FOR THAT!

So after all the hype and the entire buzz surrounding the biggest release of the year so far, I couldn’t resist going to see Sex and The City 2. And I have got to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it! I felt it had achieved what it had set out to do, as it was fabulously fun and allowed its audience to escape for the whole 146 minutes. More importantly though, it made you fall in love with fashion again!

Part of the plot sees promiscuous Samantha Jones embark upon the journey to Menopause, like the true diva she is she indulges in numerous ways to keep it at bay. When attending one of their famous lunches Samantha reveals her quest to fight the menopause to the rest of the girls: “I’ve tricked my body into thinking it’s younger” to which Miranda replies: “I’ve tricked my body into thinking it’s thinner with Spanx”.

We constantly wonder how celebrities stay looking so slim and so beautiful, but Miranda unashamedly confirmed it. It is, of course, with Spanx!

At MyTights we have brand new Spanx shapewear in stock! First there’s the Higher Power Briefs that extend from the bra line to the top of the thigh to give you lithe-like curves, so legs at the ready for those thigh skimming hemlines ladies! But if you can’t stand the thought of an extra layer in the heat, there’s no need to worry, as those clever people at Spanx have had your thoughts already. This innovative shaper has a breathable cotton-mix panty, so you won’t be a slave to the heat when attending BBQ’S and lunch dates Sex and The City Style!

Attending Ladies Day at Epsom Derby tomorrow? Or Ascot come the 15th June? If so you’re no doubt have a beautiful summery dress to wear, but none of the confidence to go with it! In that case why not take inspiration from Miranda and opt for MyTight’s new Slim Cognito Shape Suit. It will make you drop a dress size over night!

The Simplicity Shaper is also part of the newest collection of Spanx and does exactly what it says on the tin. The mid-thigh shorts style is chic and conceals a high compression tummy panel that will make your stomach appear flatter, as well as smoothing thighs, bottoms and hips!

So you have no excuse to look and feel fabulous this summer, Spanx will give you all the confidence you need to wear what you want and it’s all a click away at MyTights.com!
