Just like a little black dress, a good white shirt and a made for you pair of jeans, no wardrobe should be without a decent pair of opaques, or several. Am I right? Of course I am. When we recently carried out a survey all across the UK, opaques were the one thing that came top of the list. Everyone has them. So, if you are an opaque virgin or just looking to restock your wardrobe, here’s my guide to THE opaques to buy this season.
Mega Thick Opaques
Opaques come in all shapes and thicknesses and right up there at the top are Pretty Polly 200D Thermal Opaque Tights. The thickest tights around, these have a fleecy thermal lining that make them outerwear in their own right.
Also right up there in the ultimate coverage category are Pamela Mann 120 Denier Tights (also available in plus sizes up to a UK size 32). A classic black opaque with added warmth, no cold wind will blow through these babies. These are ideal if you’re on a budget, but should you decide to look for something a touch more luxurious then I would recommend the Falke Pure Matt 100 Tights – not only will they keep your pins fabulously cosy, they are available in a range of 5 classic shades.

As the weather continues to grow colder, the key to any great outfit is layering and the best place to start layering is with tights! Pretty Polly and Aristoc have some great tights this season to help you stay warm and cosy.
For those bitter cold days where all you want to do is cover yourself with a soft blanket and drink a steaming cup of hot chocolate, it is necessary to invest in some wool tights. Not only will they keep you warm, but they will
also keep you extremely cosy. Pretty Polly’s 150 Denier Angora Blend Opaque Tights and Aristoc’s Cashmere Blend 100 Denier Tights are great contenders if you’re in the market for some wool tights this season. Wool tights are extremely versatile and are perfect for wearing with a dress, skirts or shorts for Autumn and Winter.
If you want to add a little sophistication to your look while still keeping warm, textured tights are a great way to liven up your outfit. Textured tights are great for adding more conservative coverage under your favourite black mini-dress. For the winter, cable-knit tights are a must have. We suggest Pretty Polly Tangled Cable Tights to keep warm and look chic all at the same time. With 100 denier, you are sure to stay warm and the cable knit pattern gives off a bold look. Pair with a cute winter coat to get the perfect look this season!
With winter comes an assortment of greys and blacks, so why not brighten up your look this season with some fun coloured tights! If they can pull it off in Gossip Girl so can you! Try out Pretty Polly’s 60 Denier Lustre Opaques in red currant or ink to add a pop of colour to your winter look. If you’re feeling bold, try colour blocking by pairing your coloured tights with a brightly coloured overcoat.
No matter what style you choose to stay cosy and fashionable this season, make sure to always have an extra pair of tights on hand to keep you warm. Check out all of the great wool and extra thick tights MyTights has to offer!
We’ve always known that Little Mix were great fans of the Statement Tight (Henry Holland did create their own personalised Alphabet Tights for them, after all), plus last month the girls rocked the FAST at Jonathan Aston Scramble Bodies on Daybreak. So we weren’t surprised to spot Perrie Edwards in the extremely pretty Jonathan Aston Fantasy Tights, which she teamed with a little denim playsuit and chunky winter coat.
We’d been all geared up to save these tights for our party frocks, but we love the idea of dressing these tights down like Perrie! In fact, the entire Jonathan Aston A/W collection is full of super luxe designs that we’ll now – thanks to Perrie – be teaming with casual basics. Here’s how you can rock the Aston-ista look without dressing up to the nines…

Halloween is quickly approaching and that means costume ideas are the main topic of discussion these days. Electra Loves, a stylist on YouTube, recently posted a video on fun and quirky Halloween accessories to add to your everyday look. Not only did she give some great ideas to spice up your wardrobe during Halloween, she also gave a shout out to MyTights and recommended some of our favourite Halloween Hosiery to wear!
As Electra Loves duly notes, what screams Halloween more than classic black and orange? Electra’s first recommendation that we completely agree with is the Pamela Mann Twicker Tights. These tights will add a pop of colour to any outfit, whether it’s your Halloween costume or a part of your every day look. If you’re going for the classic witch this year, these tights are perfect for you. Not sure if the orange and black is for you? These tights come in a range of colours that will suit any outfit.
Electra’s second choice of Halloween Hosiery is the Pamela Mann Skulls Tights. These tights are perfect for those looking to add a gothic edge to their look. And of course they are a perfect addition to any Halloween costume as they feature skulls and cross bones. If you really like the skulls look, try out Celeste Stein’s White and Black Skulls Tights to really make a statement this Halloween.
The best thing about these tights that Electra Loves makes note of is that not only are they perfect for Halloween, but they also look great with a simple black dress. Pair any of our Halloween Hosiery with your classic black dress to add some excitement to your look!
Halloween is the time to let loose and get crazy with your look. Pair some of our Halloween
Hosiery with other accessories Electra Love recommends and you are sure to be the centre of attention this Halloween!
It might not be the thermals or hot chocolate and marshmallows time of year just yet (actually, we don’t need a seasonal excuse to have hot chocolate and marshmallows – they taste good all year round) but there’s a definite nip in the air. Mornings are darker, scarves are being dug out of the bottom of the wardrobe and the only thing to look forward to is that we can finally start wearing all of our new season fashion that we bought back in July.
One thing we do definitely miss in the summer is wearing our wool tights. Is there any better feeling than toasty warm pins when it’s frosty outside? Red magazine obviously agrees, as last week they published a gorgeous wintery shoot, featuring loads of cosy looks. Thankfully, they used some of the wool hosiery supplied by MyTights.com, so we can see exactly what to wear our tights with for the ultimate in cold-weather cool…
The bigger, the better, as the saying goes; and that’s never been more true than with your knitwear this season. Anything chunky, thick or oversized goes – keep the colours neutral though (finally, an excuse to wear plain black wool tights) to make it less busy and keep it all about the texture.
2) Dainty Details
We never would have thought about doing this – but the proof is in the pudding and as the model looks amazing we’re going to give it a try! Team grey ribbed tights with a super girl palette of grey, cream, pale gold and baby pink. Think satin, embellishment and brocade – any fussy details will girl up the ribbing or cable design.
3) Family Affairs
Match your tights to your children’s for super cute and cosy style. Pex and Country Kids both do gorgeous thick tights for little legs, and you can take your pick from our huge range of wool tights. Be daring and go for a bold colour (We think red looks amazing!) or try something completely different, like the FAST at Jonathan Aston Woollies Leggings, which have a bold diagonal stripe design.
I think the recent news about the singer Adele having a baby has only served to bring her even closer to being our ideal woman. For the longest time she has been a style ambassador for the larger lady and I’m sure has been instrumental in getting High Street shops to finally embrace the use of real sized women in their ad campaigns. Long may it continue!
The curvy shape of larger ladies lends itself so well to great undergarments, including fuller figure hosiery. Gone are the days when one size fits all and now you select the sizing of your tights and hold ups in the same way that you choose the size of your underwear – or outerwear. Take care with your choices and and it can serve you well.
Plus Size Opaque Tights
Let’s start with opaque tights, the greatest of all basics. Pretty Polly fly the flag for British design. Pretty Polly Curves 60 Denier Opaque Tights are a solid black all rounder with built in shaping. The kind of tights that wear once and you’ll wear forever. Cette Dublin Plus Size Tights are another great mid price 60 denier staple which are available up to a size 32. These tights come in three different shades of black so you can choose the tone that suits. Transparenze Denmark Plus Size Tights are another hero basic. A matte 60 denier finish and a range of lovely autumnal colours will keep these firmly at the top of your drawer. Now, you’ll have heard me go on and on about Falke and my trusty German favourites are also big advocates of size. Falke Seidenglatt 70 Tights have an incredible nine colours in a 70D silky shiny finish. Perfect for the party season.

There is an argument circulating at the moment that shapewear and support hosiery is making us all lazy. Apparently we no longer feel the need to pound the stairmaster at the gym as we can pull on a pair of Spanx or a pair of control tights and let lovely old Lycra pull us into shape. It’s having a detrimental effect on chains of gyms that are really feeling the pinch.
Well boo hoo for them. I’m not denying that we should exercise. I am a huge advocate of exercise and I use my bicycle to get EVERYWHERE. However, if I do need to lose a few pounds the last thing I want to do is feel awful about myself while I wait for the pounds to drop. This is why shapewear and control hosiery exists and I’m its biggest fan.
We all like shapewear but some days I just want to pull on my tights and go. That’s why control top tights are so brilliant. Gone are the days where control is limited to plains and sheers. You can now get all sorts of wonderful patterns and prints, all with that little bit of extra help.
Good old Pretty Polly is a front runner in this and their Pretty Polly Pretty Polly Secret Slimmers range of tights have most bases covered. The brand new Pretty Polly Circle Mesh Secret Slimmer tights are a 40 denier geometric design that is great for work or play. This is a classic all rounder in matte black and customers that have bought them, love them. The range also includes Pretty Polly Diamond Daisy Secret Slimmer Tights, a sort of loopy, lacy large format fishnet design in an endurable 30 denier finish. Both designs have a boxer brief top with a 2.5cm waistband that is barely undetectable under your clothes. Pretty Polly Mock Fishnet Secret Slimmer Tights are a bit of a mystery to me as they exactly like normal fine fishnets, which are one of my all time favourites. The 3cm waistband on this design lies extra flat to give you a smooth line even under the slinkiest of dresses. A similar approach has been taken with our favourite design of the range – the Pretty Polly Secret Lace Slimmer Tights. This has to be one of the prettiest control top tights designs. Even though they are
patterned, the finish is really smooth and soft. As before, both of these designs also have a boxer brief top which makes them so supportive and comfortable.

Cameron Diaz is one of Hollywood’s ageless beauties. Known for her roles in Something About Mary, Charlie’s Angles, and many more, Diaz has also stolen the role as Hollywood’s favourite California girl. What do we love most about her? Her simple, clean style that has always had a bit of an edge. Never one to follow trends, Diaz opts to be called fit, fine and fashionable, but by no means trendy.
The actress certainly made a bold statement in her recent birthday festivities. Everyone’s favourite California girl has finally turned 40, and how does she celebrate it? By flaunting her killer body in several sultry poses and proving that she’s not afraid of aging. The star was featured in Esquire’s November issue looking better than ever in a figure-hugging leather bodice, a clear display of her edgy side. She completed her look with thick opaque suspender tights and sky high stilettos, taking us back to her days of dancing with the Pussycat Dolls on the set of Charlie’s Angels. The article is full of shots of Cameron bearing all with no hesitation. One of our other favourite pictures features Cameron in a faded, unbuttoned denim jacket, giving us a taste of the 90’s, and another pair of suspender tights, these ones having a floral lace pattern.
As one of Hollywood’s most sought after “hotties” since breaking out in the 90’s, Diaz says she’s not worried about aging. And her Esquire shoot clearly shows it. If anyone can demonstrate the versatility of suspender tights, it’s Cameron. She shows us all that sultry suspender tights are fashionable at any age. Not sure if the suspender tights are for you? Why not try out mock suspender
tights, seen worn by Rhianna, Ellie Goulding, Katy Perry and more! Check out the latest styles by Pretty Polly and Henry Holland Tights!
