MyTights.com held our very own sample sale earlier this week, where we sold off vast numbers of sample hosiery and shapewear to raise money for the Renal Unit at
Royal Berks Hospital – a worthy cause, as I’m sure you’ll all agree.
We set ourselves up in the foyer of Hearst magazines (publishers of magazines including Company, Cosmopolitan and Elle) who were kind enough to host us and before long we were being mobbed – hardly surprising when tights were priced at just £1 and shapewear at just £5!

When we conducted a survey last year asking women of all ages what their stalwart products were when it came to tights, it’s no surprise that opaques reigned supreme. If you think about it, they are a number of best friends all rolled into one. For starters a good pair of opaque tights can hide anything from grey skin, to unshaved legs to muscles that could do with a workout. Get a good weave or decent denier and these babies are wonderfully warm but still show off one of your best features – let’s face it, who doesn’t have good looking legs in opaques??? Last but definitely not least, there are sooo many colours now that you could change your look everyday for whole month without changing your type of tights. So I hear you cry, what should I buy to fulfil all of these promises? Well here’s my pick of the bunch…
Let’s start with a semi-opaque 40 denier, a good ‘Cruise’ weight as you wait for glorious autumn to shake off it’s leaves and turn into a full blown winter. Jonathan Aston remains one of our bestsellers of all time. Eighteen different colours make up a spectrum of looks and the matte finish and reinforced toes mean that these legs have longevity – a snip at £6 per pair. Aristoc 40D Microfibre Tights are the product of choice for the more classic dresser amongst us. Six shades including classic navy and deep purple these have a lovely smooth finish and are seamless all the way down. A little more pricey at £15
a pair but look on these as investment tights. Treat them well and they will still be there next winter. Falke Seidenglatt 40D Shiny Tights are the requisition stocking filler tights. Again, more of a premium brand at £16 per pair but the girls in my office tell me that they have had three and more winters out of one pair of these so definitely worth the money.

Another day, another bare all look for Rihanna, who stepped out in this revealing ensemble last night following her X Factor performance.
Teaming black hold ups (the exact ones she’s wearing are the Wolford Velvet de Luxe 50 Hold Ups, by the way!)with an, if anything, overdressed top half, Rihanna rocked an oversized white jumper and denim jacket combo with fluoro trainers and a Where’s Wally bobble hat. She was – we think – at least wearing shorts underneath, as appeared in the semi naked photo she tweeted of herself getting changed after the show.
Want the look? Try the Falke Pure Matt 50D Hold Ups in black with basically the scruffiest thing you can find in your wardrobe. Layer on your top half to balance out the amount of leg on show (and to keep you warm – it is almost December after all!)
Alternatively, you could follow her lead from earlier on in the evening, when she wore a high necked, floor length black gown to perform in. Very demure – or it would have been if it weren’t for the wide lace panels either side which ran the length of the dress and made the wearing of underwear unlikely.
Lace is everywhere at the moment – the very brave should try the Emilio Cavallini Lace Bodystocking over a black vest and shorts; but if you just want a touch of lace to add a sexy, feminine edge to your look check out our selection of lace tights. Our favourites at the moment are the Pretty Polly Lace Secret Slimmer Tights, which come with a sturdy boxer brief and control top for
ultimate slimming properties, and the Oroblu Caroline Ankle Highs which you can wear on their own with heels and pumps or under skinny jeans for a flash of lace as you walk.
Love Rihanna’s outfits? It’s easy to get the look, because we’ve pulled together everything you need to steal her style with our selection of Rihanna Tights…
Another week, another celeb fan coming out of the shapewear closet. This week it was the turn of the Tulisa Constavlos, aka the feistiest lady in pop and X Factor judge, who lost her last act – 16 year old Ella Henderson – at the weekend to general outcry. The ex-N-Dubz-turned-solo-star has confessed that – gasp – she’d rather just buy cialis online uk slip on a pair of Spanx than diet, according to Heat Magazine.
Finally! A celeb that actually admits to liking food and even more, eating it! We thought it was generally accepted that celebrities live on a complex diet of vitamin water, unicorn-purified air and the occasional sniff of a McDonald’s bag (yes, we’re looking at you, Miley Cyrus), but now we know the truth. Goodbye, Gym! Farewell, Low Fat snacks! From now on, we’ll be doing a Tulisa and relying on shapewear to keep us svelte over the party season.
Spanx’s In Power Line Super Higher Power shaping shorts made it onto Heat’s top three shapers. The high waisted shaping shorts come in black or nude and has strong control for ultimate shaping power and a super-steamlined silhouette, which makes it one of our favourites, too! But if that’s not quite what you are after, not to worry. Whatever you’re wearing, there’s a Spanx to go with it, from shorts to briefs, bodysuits to slips, and camisoles to open bust shapers.
Ok, so maybe we won’t REALLY be able to ditch the gym and eat whatever we like (Spanx UK might be miracle workers but even miracles have their limits); but there’s no denying that being able to get a secret,
instant nip and tuck will mean we can tuck into our favourite Christmas treats, a little more relaxed that we’re still going to fit into our party frocks.
The lovely ladies on the fashion team at Look magazine have been hard at work this week thinking up the best shoes to go with your favourite hosiery, and we are loving the suggestions they came up with! Get a load of these fab team-ups, then get the look with tights from MyTights.com…

By now, it’s clear how much Little Mix loves their statement tights, especially those from Henry Holland. We love their chic and urban style and how they’re not afraid to take some fashion risks. Both Jesy and Jade have recently been seen wearing one of our favourite looks by Henry Holland: reverse spots. Holland has some great reverse tights this season that put a funky twist on some of your favourite classic designs!
This past week, at a store opening in London, Jesy impressed as always by sporting the Henry Holland Reverse Polka Dot Mock Hold Up Tights. Henry Holland has done it again, combining two of our favourite trends: suspender tights and spots! But these aren’t ordinary spots. These tights feature an array of bold sheer spots on an opaque base to give you just glimpses of the leg. Pair with a cute pair of shorts like Jesy or a mini dress to show off the full look of the tights. If you love the reverse polka dot look as much as we do, why not completely cover your legs in spots with Henry Holland’s Reverse Polka Dot Tights! Available in classic black and a dark purple, these are sure to make your pins pop.
Love the reverse look? Dress like a superstar this season, literally, with the Henry Holland Reverse Star Tights. A modern twist on the popular Susperstar Multi tights seen on Jessie J, the Reverse Star Tights feature sheer stars in a combination of 60/20 denier. Wear them with a short skirt or short shorts to really make your legs stand out on a big night. If you want a pair of funky tights that are sure to give you an edge, the Reverse Star Tights are for you!
To get more looks like the Little Mix Crew, make sure to check out all of the
tights My Tights has to offer this season!
Anyone that heard Little Mix’s Radio 1 Live Lounge cover of Mumford & Sons “I Will Wait” will agree that it was simply stunning. And of course, the girls turned up to the studio sporting their trademark edgy style. As I’m sure you won’t be surprised to hear that we’re tights aficionados, we immediately zoned in on Jesy who was rocking suspender tights with fishnet detailing. We loved the way she styled them with a slogan t-shirt dress and long necklace.
Mock hold ups with extra detail have replaced the classic suspender tights design as the style du jour. Here are our favourite 3 styles:

…high end hosiery. Mine was Wolford. Silky smooth, matte perfection, my first pair of luxury tights made me feel a million dollars.
Yes, the price made me wince slightly, but fast forward on a couple of years and the very same pair of tights are still utterly wearable. Yes, of course there will always be jagged nails and scratchy furniture, but generally speaking high end hosiery really is top quality and will last a lot longer than everyday legwear.
That’s not to say basics don’t have their place in most women’s wardrobes – many of us will continue wear slightly less expensive hosiery day to day in the office – but if you haven’t already, I would urge you to pay a visit to the First Class Lounge of legwear, for special occasions at least.
Wolford Tights are the go-to for many women – their basic ranges are second to none and the quality of the collection is out of this world. If you have to start with one piece, make it the Velvet de Luxe 66 Tights, which are a classic opaque that feels like a dream on your leg.

It’s November and Christmas party season is almost here… amid the buying of presents, stuffing of turkeys, making up of beds and managing expectations, we are all taking a moment to think about what to wear over the party season.
This year we are really excited about some of the designs around this year. They can take even a simple black dress to new heights, which is great as I haven’t replaced my little black dress in years, having found the perfect party frock a long time ago.
Gold and Silver are a regular party favourite and in a solid shimmering denier they become a stand alone fashion statement. Pamela Mann Lurex Highball Tights are a personal favourite and look great with dresses, skirts and shorts, flats and heels.
The new embossed sheers are an elegant take on Christmas glitz and this year there are many contenders for the crown. Jonathan Aston Starburst tights have a subtle silver spot laced over a smooth 10 denier sheer. Emilio Cavallini Rubies Baguette Tights were designed for a shorter hemline and the trickle of diamante and
ruby jewels run from ankle to mid thigh. At £31 they are a premium brand but definitely worth it. Emilio Cavallini has also followed suite with the Emilio Cavallini Cable and Diamond Baguette Tights, a square geometric pattern supplemented with a centred row of diamonds. Jonathan Aston Phantom Tights are another amazing new filigree design which has a wash of shimmering silver or gold brushed over a lovely sheer.
We’ve covered all the usual suspects, gold, silver and embellished but why not depart from the usual festive styles – try lace or seams or colour for example. Jonathan Aston Siren Tights are available in a Christmassy red, offering up a take on the burlesque in a really eye catching pattern that has cranberry waves on the inside leg and a sheer on the outside, which is embossed with spots. The overall effect is very complimentary as the line slims your leg appearance. Very festive design at just £12.
Mary Portas and Charnos Baroque Floral Tights are another example of a great festive style. Channelling a romantic almost Dickenisan look in the rich red is perfect for Christams. For a rock chic look team with leather or structured tailoring, and at just £15, they won’t roll your money away.
Until next week….
