HOW TO WEAR PATTERNED TIGHTS

Summer is over, and unfortunately we all have to resign ourselves to the fact that England doesn’t quite stay warm forever. But we always have an answer to everything, right?

This season shows us that we don’t need to cover up completely, as patterned tights invaded the AW14 runways.

Vivienne Westwood led the pack in the AW14 patterned tights collection, with her diverse range of tartan-check hosiery and eccentric triangle print tights. Want to upgrade your wardrobe this autumn? We have some purse-friendly options to help you stay in style without breaking the bank!

Tartan

So AW13 saw the return of the tartan print thanks to Karl Lagerfield, with brands such as Valentino and Gucci quickly following suit to add plaid to their collections. Immensely popular, it makes a return for 2014 and this year experiments with geometric op art checks and autumnal colours, along with the classic red print.

Bold shapes

Vivienne never fails to disappoint and this year, Westwood showed us how it’s done when they paired shapes with bold block coloured suits and leather. Why not try stepping outside the box and becoming a shape shifter this autumn?

Dots

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini (she will always be Cole to us, too!) was recently papped wearing a pair of spotted hosiery teamed with a black and gold mini dress, giving off a cute but stylish look. The spotty trend is back in, and with the sheen of the tights makes it so easy to dress them up or down whatever the occasion. If you wear a pair of skin coloured opaques underneath these styles, you’ll be sure to stay warm during the winter months, too!

Teaser Trailer: Amp Up Your Look By 50 Shades

As if we needed another reason to feel hot under the collar this week in London, the release of the Fifty Shades of Grey film trailer certainly ensured soaring temperatures. Starring Dakota Johnson (of 21 Jump Street) and Jamie Dornan as the elusive Mr. Grey, the short trailer offers a mere snippet of the hotly anticipated scenes played out in E. L. James’ sell-out series. Even so, we’re hooked.

For those of you who missed the phenomenon that put a fire under housewives around the world in 2012, the premise is thus: quiet and plain student journalist Anastasia Steele is sent to interview powerful and outstandingly good looking entrepreneur Christian Grey. From here, the pair begin a relationship filled with outrageous bedroom exploits, with bold lingerie choices to match. Feeling inspired? Perhaps a little audacious? Us too. Here at MyTights, we know that the easiest way to inject a little sexinesss and confidence into an outfit is a great pair of hold ups – and we’ve lovingly compiled a list of our favourites, just for you. Go on, we dare you.

FISHNETS: DOS AND DON’TS

Tom Ford brought sexy back JT style this season with fishnet tights, so we thought we would share some of our wisdom with you so there are no excuses for any Avril circa 2002 fishnet faux pas…You’re welcome.

DO…

> Trust the designers- they know what they’re talking about. Tom Ford wasn’t the main man behind the Gucci turnaround in the late ‘90s for no reason; he knows how to style a woman. Have faith!

fishnet

> Have confidence in yourself, not just the designer. The most awkward thing to see is someone feeling uncomfortable. If you don’t feel yourself- don’t wear them!

> Less is more, remember? Why not wear fishnets underneath your trouser suit at the office with a pair of heels if you want to feel more confident but aren’t quite willing to show the whole leg.

> Try a pencil skirt with some leather boots, so your knee is the only bit of fishnet flesh on show.

> Dress yourself down in other areas:

>>For work & daytime: light lipstick, minimal make up, a pencil skirt and a blouse

>>For evenings- minimal make up – just because it’s dark doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to slap on the red lippy(!) – a tight midi skirt with a pair of boots and a light cropped jacket, or a plain coloured jersey dress.

> Wear sheer bare look tights underneath the fishnets if you want to keep warm this season. Try Falke Shelina Tights for this look, with several options to match your skin tone!

DON’T…

honeycomb-tights-main_1_2

> Deliberate in buying fishnets with holes in them. Unless you’re going to a fancy dress party. Even then I wouldn’t advise it.

> Wear stilettos or sky high heels- instead try a casual boot or a wedged boot.

> Do a Rihanna/Miley Cyrus and wear fishnet and NOTHING else. You won’t pull it off and you may be arrested.

> Overestimate your coolness, bright tights underneath green fishnets don’t work for everyone, so don’t assume you’re suddenly Taylor Momsen because you’ve purchased a pair of quirky tights. Black or nude is the safest choice of colour.

> Feel like you have to convert overnight- there are plenty of options if you want to be subtle but part of the fishnet craze this autumn.Try the Charnos Honey comb fishnets- with a matte finish; these tights hold a subtle honeycomb design that decorates legs whilst giving you a comfortable and warm feel- perfect all year round!

> Think that wearing a low cut top; a mini skirt and fishnets is in fashion, it’s not. Keep it classy.

Why not try…

Levante fishnet tights

These pair of classic fishnets by Levante are a seasonal must-have, available in different shades and with no gusset; they are perfect to wear day and night and for any occasion.

Pamela Mann Fishnet seamed tights

These Pamela Mann Fishnets are perfect for elongating those pins whilst giving off a flirty but flattering look. Perfect for going out or evening wear.

Straight from the catwalk…

One of our favourite designers Tom Ford shows us how it’s done with a coordinated office suit and a pair of simple black boots.

Socks and Heels: easier than you think

It’s something we’ve all wished we could wear to save our toes but have never dared to try.  We’ve talked about socks with sandals but what about with pumps and booties?! Visible socks with heels have been making a comeback and we’ve gathered our top products to create the perfect summery look.

Next time you’re wearing your favourite summer dress, try pairing it with Mary Jane style heels and a complimenting sock colour.  To try this look out, I paired a flowy cut-out dress with a light floral print with Jonathan Aston’s Buttercup Socks in Dried Rose.  Paired with nude heels, the socks added some warmth to the outfit which made it perfect for a sunny but breezy day.  The soft rose colour was a perfect complement to the spring look of the dress and the white stripe at the top helped transition from sock to bare leg.

For a more wearable daytime look, try pairing the Pretty Polly Floral Spot Ankle High socks with brown booties and your favourite white dress. The looser the dress, the more relaxed your look will be.  We paired ours with a lacy white dress to bring out the lace in the sock and brown lace up booties with knit cardigan for a full on bohemian look.

Ankle socks have never been more in style, and we love the new looks that are now socially acceptable to wear. Let us know with a comment below how you wear your socks and heels.

Patterned Tights Styles We’re Loving

Patterned tights have been making a comeback recently, at Coachella, on the red carpet, and even in the yoga studio, and we’ve narrowed down our top five styles you can incorporate into your daily wardrobe.

1. Baroque

Baroque tights add a girly touch to your plain sheer black tights.  The velvet design on ones like the Jonathan Aston Carmen Tights and the opulent design on the Pamela Mann Baroque Tulle Tights add dimension and body to your outfit.  Pair them with a simple black dress or go bold and wear it with a dark turquoise skirt with black booties.  Keep the rest of the outfit and accessories simple to keep the focus on your legs (oh la la!).

2. Printed Suspender Tightspamela-mann-paris-suspender-tights

Suspender tights are harder to pull off but with the right outfit, you can achieve a subtly sexy look.  We love the Pamela Mann Big Heart Sheer Suspender Tights’ flirty heart design at the top.  These add enough of a pattern to your outfit without overwhelming it.  The sheerness will keep you from looking like a primary-school girl while the opaqueness will prevent you from looking too raunchy.  These can be paired with high-waisted shorts and a simple blouse to keep the focus on the pattern.

3. Skyline

Whether you’re traveling the globe or commuting to work, skyline printed tights add just enough va va voom to your outfit to change up your daily look while maintaining professionalism.  We love Pamela Mann’s New York Skyline Tights and Paris Skyline Tights.  The sheer thigh section is perfect to have peek out from under a dark purple skirt and add an edgy look to your everyday wardrobe.

4. Tattoo

Ever wondered what you would look like with leg tattoos? Well now you can see for yourself with tattoo tights.  Those like the Jonathan Aston Gaya Tights  have a full sheer leg with a black tiger design near the ankle and are perfect for a night out.  For a more all-over tattooed look, try our Pamela Mann Floral Tattoo Tights.  These will make your legs look fierce and delicate at the same time with their intricate dragon and flower designs.

5. Animal Print

Take a walk on the wild side with animal printed leggings.  We love the Trasparenze Spirit Leggings.  These are thick enough to be worn as bottoms with a high-low, simple, black loose t-shirt and comfortable enough to wear on a shopping day or whilst running errands.

Whether you’re drawn to flirty floral patterns or wild animal prints, we hope we’ve helped you spice up your legwear.  Comment below with the style you’re dying to try!

Top Spring/Summer Styles

moulin-rouge-metallic-seam_1This season let your accessories do the work for you and stay on trend easily with these handy tips…

White Tights

Recently spotted on Suki Waterhouse, white tights aren’t for the faint-hearted, but when done correctly they look divine. For a splash of celeb style, follow Suki’s example and wear them with a pale pastel pink dress and platform sandals to get in on that “socks and sandals” trend. We recommend matching your pastel pieces with the Trasparenze Gennifer Merino Wool Tights made from 70% wool and available in Bianco Lana, as these wool tights are both cosy and chic. For a purse-friendly version then plump for the Pamela Mann 50 Denier Tights available in a huge range of colours including white. Curvy ladies will love the Pamela Mann 80 Denier Plus Size Tights designed especially for voluptuous figures. Now we can confirm that it’s official: white tights are not just for children but essential for nailing that pastel trend.

Metallic

It’s time to unleash your inner magpie and indulge in some serious glitter. Metallic tights and socks are the perfect way to embrace this trend without suffering from ‘shiny overload’. Get a sultry leg lengthening effect with the Moulin Rouge Metallic Seam Tights in 10 denier, from the front they look just like a normal pair of black sheer tights but as soon as you twirl round you can see their glittery line that travels up the back of both legs. If those fashion tights aren’t quite glittery enough for you, then check out the Jonathan Aston Lurex Anklet, full to the brim with gorgeous glitter. Style these stunning socks with flat pointed shoes and a full length lemon yellow coat.

Floral

wolford-delia-tights_2

What do we all think of when it comes to Spring/Summer, yes you guessed it: flowers. Give this pretty trend a more modern update with the Wolford Delia Tights in 20 denier with their floral take on polka dots. If you think lace is ace then you will adore the Jonathan Aston Sweet Roses Tights with their rose patterned design – these popular tights have been styled by Vogue no less, now if that won’t convince you I don’t know

what will!

Whether you’re a floral fan, metallic lover or adore all things white, we hope that we’ve helped you find your perfect pair of tights so that you can adopt those trends with panache.

Fashion Trend: Meggings (Men in Leggings)

Men in…leggings? Although it sounds bizarre at first, it is true that this is expected to become a major trend in men’s fashion. But, can men look masculine in an article of clothing that was created to show off the female figure? MyTights think they can!

In fact, meggings have been spotted on the runway and even celebrities have been seen supporting this new look.

activebottoms-closefit

So its official, the trend has started. Now is the time to jump on the bandwagon guys and order your meggings for the upcoming spring and summer today!High-fashion runway shows including John Galliano and Givenchy had their models strutting in meggings, predicting the upcoming trend. Celebrities Russell Brand and Lenny Kravitz were caught casually wearing meggings on the streets and one could also argue that Kayne West’s skin-tight leather pants mimicked this new megging look.

MyTights offers plenty of gender neutral leggings to help you get started. The Spanx Active Bottoms Shaping Compression Close Fit Pant and Spanx Ready-to-Wow Structured Leggings have a full range of sizes from small all the way up to XL. We would recommend men use large to XL depending on your physique . For bulkier men, MyTights also offers Cette  London Plus Size Leggings which includes bigger sizes ranging from XL to 3XL!

Ladies, we need to encourage all of the important men in our lives to look great  and feel comfortable. So inform everyone from your significant other to your brother to about the trend because let’s face it… real men wear meggings.

A MyTights Experience: London Fashion Weekend

In January, I abandoned my home in freezing cold Minnesota—located in the United States—and travelled to a fast-paced city consumed with fashion. In a little over two months, London has made me obsessed with staying updated on popular and upcoming styles. This was especially apparent after London Fashion Week.  I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a designer and a trend catwalk and interning at MyTights has possessed me to find tights to accompany these upcoming trends!

pink-floral-tightsDuring the designer catwalk show, I watched Maria Grachvogel’s garments float down the runway. They were very feminine, made with chiffon and consumed with bold neutrals (especially brown) and pastel colours. The dresses and tops were also a bit oversized and flowy, which actually accentuated femininity.  I think that the Wolford Sheer 15 Tights would correspond perfectly with chiffon and flowy garments because they are very fine and mimic the sheer look of chiffon.

I also attended a trend catwalk. In this show, there were three specific trends that were highlighted for the spring and summer season. I’ll give you a hint- they were titled “Flower Power”, “Good Sport” and “Precious Metals”.

The first trend “Flower Power” featured—you guessed it—big and bold flowers. Pamela Mann Ditsy Pink Floral Tights are patterned with floral and summer colours.  The Jonathan Aston Poppy Hold Ups and Jonathan Aston Rosy Tights (I would recommend the nude ones) are also bold, but create a twist on this upcoming trend with the flowers embedded into them.stardust-glitter-seams

The second trend, “Good Sport”, was inspired by sports and athletics. The colours included vibrant orange, red, white and blue, and the designs  used geometric shapes and were paired with tennis shoes. The Charnos Stripe Mesh Tights subtly mimic the look of a referee’s shirt, which can carry-on the sporty look with any garment, but especially an athletically enthused one.

The last trend, “Precious Metals”, included metallic pleats—especially gold. The Trasparenze Charter Hold Ups and the Pamela Mann Lurex Highball Tights will help you shimmer into the summer trend. The Jonathan Aston Stardust Tights also add a hint of this trend in the seam without being consumed by it, which is a great way to include this trend into your wardrobe for daytime.

I can’t wait to whip out my trendy tights this summer and I hope sharing my experience will help you embark on a summer full of fashion!

TRENDS THAT DO THE WALKING

As the seasons change, so do hosiery trends, and Michele Duncan, Marketing Manager at INVISTA, the company that owns the LYCRA® fibre brand, takes us through the company’s predicted legwear trends for 2014 / 2015…

Here at INVISTA we love spending time researching fashion trends around the globe and as a result we’ve compiled a range of styles we believe we will be just as popular on the high street as they will be on the catwalk.

Also, we’re proud that the presence of LYCRA® fibre means that our legwear products are fashionable and ultra-comfortable – leaving us ladies to enjoy the day in style!

Beauty Lab

Using brave experiments to create contouring for constructive silhouettes, Beauty Lab is about concentrating on how to build a perfect body. Through the use of a minimalist palette to enhance silhouettes, this trend gives a hint of science by showing a touch of mathematics and robotics in the designs. This results in flattering legwear created by linear grids, dashed lines and highlighted body parts. Beauty lab trend leggings with LYCRA® fibre >>

do-the-twist-leggings

Do the Twist

Do the Twist is all about making traditional and iconic patterns relevant for a new generation of legwear consumers by adding a playful twist and an element of surprise to ordinary legwear. Using popular patterns that are made to look as though they have been cut up and pasted back together again, this creates a series of geometrically composed hosiery items displaying surprising novelty in a monochrome palette. Do the Twist trend LYCRA® fibre leggings >>

made-to-fit-you-tights

Raw and Wild

Raw and Wild uses surfaces that are inspired by nature’s organic surfaces and wild animal skins using earth tones as the main palette. Reflecting a raw rusticity, this trend includes motifs that look as if they were touched by time and the elements, with legs matching rustic heathers and marls and tweeds that are on trend for the coming seasons. Raw and Wild trend MADE TO FIT YOU tights with LYCRA® SOFT COMFORT fibre >>

montmartre-trend-tights

Montmartre

Montmartre is inspired by the belle-époque spirit of Toulouse Lautrec’s Montmartre. This trend alludes to the boudoir through the use of ribbons and lace and is complimented by the soft and silky texture. This trend creates a feeling of nostalgia and ensures that the hosiery looks sophisticated. Montmartre trend LYCRA® fibre tights >>

Cabaret

cabaret-trend-knee-highs

The Cabaret trend demonstrates ‘cancan’ looks that are pretty and lavish, reviving the spirit of music halls and chorus lines and celebrating the audacity of couture. Made up of a vibrant palette that allows legs to take the lead, parading the stages with frivolous details, extravagant ruffles and ruches, the contrast of jet black and lipstick red makes for passionate plains as well as seductive patterning. Cabaret trend LYCRA® 3D knee highs >>

Athletic Chic

athletic-chic-tights

As the name suggests, this is legwear for the fast-paced, athletic and chic woman who wants powerful design that is intended to be noticed.  This legwear shows racy geometrics, juxtaposed with sheers, daring slashes and open works. By using LYCRA® fibres to pair smooth translucency with mirrored foils, electric blues and cosmetic pales, smooth curves and bold colour blocks, these garments really stand out.

Creative Energy

creative-energy-tights

Inspired by design experimentation, this trend entertains one-off patterning and playful creativity connected to cutting-edge technology. Its design inspiration comes from digital screens, glitches, grids and graphs with its rhythm and symmetries broken by wide angles and sharp facts.

Stars Get Full On Fishnet Fever

jesy-littlemix-fishnets-resizedWe’ve been seeing the signs for a while – a celeb spotting here and there, a press feature every so often.  But over the last month or so, it seems it’s official: fishnets are in again.  Sure, there has been the odd sighting, and perhaps we should have known it was coming – after all we lost count of the amount of times we saw nude fishnet tights in place of sheers over the summer, and stars like Beyoncé and Rihanna have been rocking them on stage for ages.  But it’s only recently that we’ve seen the trend come into full force, with fishnets on the catwalk and – more importantly – on the legs of celebs and everyday women around us.

Little Mix’s Jesy Nelson might be busy taking America by storm, but she still finds time to coordinate some fierce fashion looks.  Her and the other girls are known and loved for their bold fashion choices, so while not all of us will be able to pull off the fishnets-tartan-leather combo, we can take note and incorporate them into our looks.  For a subtler way of flaunting your fishnets and still tapping into the grunge trend, try punky accessories – a tartan bag, leather jacket or studded boots – with a classic tailored shift, or soft cotton jersey dress.

Get Jesy’s Look: The Trasparenze Rita Fishnet Tights have a slightly wider net, just like Jesy’s, and come in a rainbow of shades for those that dare to go beyond classic black.

Showing us how to work fishnets and leather and still look elegant, Georgia May Jagger was snapped as she left Claridge’s a couple of weeks ago modelling her own version of the “London look”.  Teaming classic fishnet tights with point heels, leather skirt AND jacket, she finished the look with a colourful silk scarf tied around her neck and smoky eye make up.  We’ll be swapping the leather jacket for a silky cream blouse to avoid overdoing the leather.

Get Georgia’s Look: The Levante Fishnet Tights are made with classic Italian design and come in nude for the summer months, too.

julia-roberts-fishnets

Even the mega A-List is getting in on the action.  Hollywood superstar Julia Roberts was featured on the cover of Vanity Fair’s annual awards season issue.  In a spread shot by Annie Leibovitz, the star was pictured sitting on Idris Elba’s lap (lucky Julia), flanked by 12 Years a Slave’s Chiwetel Ejifor and Hollywood bachelor George Clooney.  Wearing a tux jacket, high heels and – you guessed it – fishnet tights, the Pretty Woman star might have missed out on the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, but she’s definitely a strong contender for Best Dressed Legs.

Get Julia’s Look: We recommend adding some cocktail shorts, but anything with a seam with help you get that Chicago-style glamour – try the Jonathan Aston Fishnet Backseam Tights.

As if we needed any more proof of the Return of the Net, it turned up yet again on the LFW AW14 catwalks – notably at Jean Paul Gaultier where nets and lace featured heavily, and at Tom Ford where the models wore fishnet tights with pencil skirts and knee high boots.  We’ll be using the show as our autumn workwear inspiration, and teaming suede pencil skirts with boots, fishnets and soft, luxe long sleeved t-shirts.

Get the Catwalk Look:  A high end looks needs high end accessories – the Falke Net Tights are a great example of classic design from a luxury brand.

So whether you go for wide net, coloured, classic or hold ups, you heard it here first: fishnets are well and truly BACK.
