Alexa Chung Grabbing The Leg Limelight Yet Again!

Another day, another fabulous outfit from model and all-round socialite Alexa Chung. It seems that rarely a month goes by without the 31 year old featuring in our blog in some way or another, which has lead us to the extremely important executive decision. It’s official; Alexa Chung has the best dressed legs in the business! You heard it here first people.

Alexa Chung

Stepping out with fellow fashionista Daisy Lowe at a high-end jeans launch, this week saw Alexa wearing a fashion-forward denim dress, finishing off her quirky look with a pair of heeled boots, and the pièce de résistance (in our eyes at least), a pair of sheer embellished tights. While we may be slightly biased, being a hosiery company and all, we can’t take our eyes off Alexa’s gorgeous legwear. It really is amazing how a single pair of tights can make an otherwise fairly casual ensemble look THAT glamorous. And good news if you’re a fan; while her dress may not be a viable option to us normal folk, you too can channel an ‘Alexa-esque’ look with the brilliant range of glitter and high shine tights on offer at MyTights!

Trasparenze Vlinder Tights

Trasparenze Vlinder Tights

For a style replica, you shouldn’t look past the Vlinder Tights from Italian brand Trasparenze. Albeit slightly more subtle than Alexa’s herself, these sheer tights feature an all over glittery fleck, catching the light as you walk and giving you a truly glamorous look. A denim dress may not be in your repertoire, but they’ll look equally as chic with a classic cocktail dress and heeled ankle boots.

Moulin Rouge Metallic Seam Tights

Moulin Rouge Metallic Seam Tights

Another brilliant option are the Charnos Lurex Spot Opaque Tights. This time set against a 40 denier leg for a bit of added coverage, these matte tights have an array of symmetrically placed glittery dots for true understated glamour. Ideal for a night on the town or equally for a dinner date, these are an excellent place to start if you’re a beginner to all this high shine stuff.

If hold ups are more your thing, you too can channel a sparkly legwear look with the Charnos 75 Ava Hold Ups. A play on the popular backseam trend, these 20 denier hold ups have a unique embellished seam made up of individual floral motifs and finished off with 8cm lace tops. Or for a more traditional backseam, opt for the Moulin Rouge Metallic Seam Tights, with their super slender and sultry backseam and black sheer leg. Available with both a gold and silver seam to complement your shoes and jewellery!

See you next week, Alexa!

New Year Fash-olutions: Our top ten

Stoxbox

Stoxbox

It’s that time of year again. New Year, new you! 2015 is going to be different. This year, you’re going to banish the carbs, work up a sweat at the gym 5 times a week and quit the booze, right?

We envy you if you manage to stick to your January promises, but let’s be honest, it’s not always easy. So why not save yourself the guilt come early February and make some New Year resolutions that you can stick to? In our eyes, the perfect way to bring in 2015 in style is to revamp your hosiery collection. With this in mind, the MyTights team have been busily compiling a selection of our own fash-olutions (get it?)

Here are our top ten…

1) Don’t stress, invest: We’ve all got that token pair of tights in our drawer that we bought on a whim – an impulse buy that you convinced yourself you’d wear once a week, but in reality, have never been taken out of the packet. So this year, spend some time in creating a capsule collection of quality basics that you will actually wear – we’re talking black opaques and luxury sheers!

2) Organisation is key: nobody wants to be rummaging through their bedside table at 6am, desperately trying to find THAT pair of tights that will finish off your outfit perfectly. So take action; throw out anything you haven’t worn in the last year and organise your fashion tights with the brilliant Stoxbox. A neat and tidy hosiery drawer awaits…

3) Be braver: fashion is there to be experimented with, so instead of wishing you could pull off a pair of suspender tights that you’ve seen in a celebrity magazine, go out and try it! You never know, you might find a new hosiery BFF. Ankle socks are a great place to start!

4) Discover your perfect skintone shade: it may take a little bit of trial and error to find exactly what you’re after, but finding your perfect skin tone shade is a must. Not only will it save you time and money, it’ll give you no end of confidence and allow you to pull off a bare leg look with panache! Need a little help? Check out our in-depth skintone guide.

5) Turn your back on black: colour, colour, colour! Black opaques are a necessary component of every staple collection, but it’s entirely possible to achieve a similarly chic and classic look with a pair of coloured tights. We’re not saying opt for bright yellow straight away, but why not try out muted tones like navy, burgundy and dark grey?

6) Find the ideal shapewear for problem areas: shapewear can be daunting at first – what will work for you? Is it worth the money? The MyTights shapewear guide is there to help, offering you all the advice you need to find something suitable for your problem zones. The hassle-free way to a streamlined silhouette!

7) Throw out your odd socks: most of us have done it at some point, haven’t we? Whether intentional or not, odd socks are a fashion faux pas. Start off the year with a clean slate – grab a bin bag, throw your rejects away and replace them with our fabulous range of quality socks. Something for every style!

8) Know the key trends: a capsule collection is a great idea, but it’s always nice to a mix it up a bit with a patterned pair of fashion tights! To ensure your legwear is current and on-trend, take it upon yourself to follow the catwalks at London Fashion Week to find the most up to date styles. We’ll no doubt be blogging about it as it happens, too, so watch this space!

Levante Relax Medium Support Tights

Levante Relax Medium Support Tights

9) Suffer no more: if you spend a long time on your feet at work, it’s not unusual for your legs to feel tired and jaded come the end of the day. In 2015, tell yourself that enough is enough – give your pins the attention they deserve with a pair of our excellent support tights. No longer limited to frumpy and unflattering tights, our range of support tights are sourced from an array of industry leading brands… so it’s entirely possible to channel a chic legwear look AND have a spring in your step in the process.

10) Put yourself first!: Last but not least…treat yourself. Feeling confident is hugely important, and a brilliant way to boost your mood in the miserable winter months. After all, if you look great, you feel great. So this year, if you’ve spotted a pair of tights that you can’t stop thinking about, don’t worry about the price…splash out and put yourself first!

Happy New Year!

Laura’s Choice: Top Workwear Picks

Happy New Year to all our lovely customers! I’m sure many of you have begrudgingly returned back to work in the last few days, leaving behind your relaxing afternoons full of mince pies and mulled wine and swapping them for early starts, packed trains and January blues. This time of year can be depressing, so why not give yourself a little boost with our fabulous range of legwear for the office? Guaranteed to leave you feeling confident and super stylish, there’s something for every style, preference and budget. January doesn’t seem so bad now, does it?

The Purse Friendly

Levante 50D Suede Matte Opaque Tights

Levante 50D Suede Matte Opaque Tights

Workwear. Let’s face it, it’s not always easy to find. After all, it needs to be a) professional, b) durable and perhaps most importantly, c) affordable. If this Christmas has been an expensive one, fret not, we have an excellent selection of everyday tights (at everyday budgets!) that are perfect for the office. Starting off at the lowest price point, you simply can’t go wrong with Pretty Polly. The best value for money, in my opinion, is the Pretty Polly 40D Silk Finish Tights. At just £5, you’ll receive two pairs of functional opaque tights, giving your legs warmth and even coverage and coming with an elegant slight sheen finish.  What’s more, as well as the obligatory black, they’re also available in bottle green and navy should you be the type who likes to experiment with colour. Speaking of colour, another recommendation is the Jonathan Aston 40 Denier Opaque Tights, available in 17 chic colours and having a flattering matte finish. While the more outlandish shades (we’re talking daffodil yellow) might not be quite suitable for the workplace, how about trying out the muted burgundy and  storm for something a little different? Also available in a 15D version for the milder days. If you are somebody who feels the cold, the Levante 50D Suede Matte Opaque Tights are a fantastic choice, made with snug Meryl microfibre yarns that protect against the winter chill.

Any followers of fashion will know that sheers are everywhere this year, and this is a trend that doesn’t look set to stop anytime soon. I call it the Kate Middleton effect! Topping the list of affordable sheers are the Aristoc Ultra Shine 10D Tights. You’ll receive a durable and stylish pair of tights, with a glamorous shiny finish and day to night appeal, should you have an impromptu dinner date after work. They’re also continually one of our best sellers, so you can rest assured that you’re getting value for money!  Equally as great are the Charnos Run Resist Sheer Tights, made with an innovative fabric that prevents against the formation of ladders and snags. Even better, the matte finish and delicate appearance are just the ticket for perfecting that office look.

A workwear hosiery capsule

Oroblu Sensuel 30 Tights

Oroblu Sensuel 30 Tights

As the founder of a hosiery company, I’m continually being asked for advice about the best way to buy hosiery that won’t go out of fashion. The answer: invest in a capsule collection of quality and timeless products that will stand the test of time! The extra few pounds really are worth it, and will save you a lot of time (and money) in the long run. The Aristoc range of opaques are a great place to start, recently being revamped and offering, what I think, is excellent value for money. Tough and durable, the Aristoc 50D Opaque Tights are super soft to the touch and will work perfectly with just about any workwear combination. Moving up in denier for a moment, you can never look past the Falke Pure Matt 100 Tights. Eight stylish colours, supreme warmth and a flawless matte finish that’s perfect for the office; what more could you possibly want? If you prefer the look of sheers, I simply have to point you in the direction of the Wolford Neon 40 Tights. With a 40D denier strength that’s durable enough for everyday wear; these shiny tights have a chic 20 denier appearance for an elegant and professional look. Or if semi-opaque tights are your preference, the Oroblu Sensuel 30 Tights have a great slight sheen finish and are super durable. What’s more, the 30 denier finish is lovely and professional – just perfect for that tricky in-between weather!

If you’re after a little helping hand to create a streamlined silhouette, a great choice are the Calvin Klein Ultra Fit 50D Shaper Tights. A matte finish and boxer brief makes them a smart and durable choice for the office, at the same time allowing you to benefit from a medium shaping control that will tame your midriff, thighs and bottom! Or opt for the Wolford Individual 10 Control Top Tights if you prefer the look of sheer tights. Typically Wolford, there’s an exquisitelysoft finish and unrivalled comfort, as well as a discreet control top panty for some extra peace of mind.

Style and practicality

Depending on your job, you may feel the pressure to maintain a professional and sophisticated look. In the past, this has tended to mean plain black opaques or sheers, which let’s face it, can get a little dull, especially if you’re wearing them five days a week. If you are something of a fashionista, it’s entirely possible to create an office-suitable legwear look WITHOUT having to resort to your trusty black tights, and here’s how…

Charnos Stripe Mesh Tights

Charnos Stripe Mesh Tights

Fishnet tights are a fantastic way to add a little style to your work wardrobe, the pick of the pack, for me, being the Levante Micronet Tights. Ensuring you don’t give too much away, the micronet design is subtle yet sexy. Pull out a simple pencil dress and court shoes and you’re good to go! If you love the idea of micronet, but want something a little less restrictive in the warmer weather, they also come as a stay up…nobody has to know! Patterns aren’t completely off limits, either. The trick here is to keep the patterns simple and unfussy, which in my eyes calls for one thing – polkadots! The Oroblu Adelle Tights are a brilliant choice, with an array of symmetrical dots against a 20 denier backdrop. Keep the rest of your outfit fairly plain so as to let your legwear do all of the talking. Last but not least, why not add a little texture to your look with the Charnos Stripe Mesh Tights? Coming with vertical leg-lengthening stripes, they’re affordable, stylish and professional!

Until next time…

Aristoc Ultra Shine 10D Tights

Aristoc Ultra Shine 10D Tights

Whilst we may still be shivering into our onesies and hot water bottles, the turn of the New Year means that it’s time to start considering our spring/summer wardrobes. And in the world of hosiery that means one thing… sheer tights! Here at MyTights, we love the elegant look that sheers can offer, giving your pins a subtle look and some coverage when you’re not feeling brave enough to expose a bare leg! And we’re not alone, with the likes of Kate Middleton, Alexa Chung and Rihanna all being advocates of the movement. Well, if it’s good enough for them…

Last week, The Guardian even featured the trend on their fashion blog, calling on the expertise of none other than MyTights founder, Laura Godsal, who revealed that sales of sheers are up by 13% this winter already. She added that ‘Whereas sheers and semi-sheers in recent years have been unfashionable, now you walk down the street and see women of all ages wearing them, with black being the hot favourite.’ With this in mind, we thought it would be a great idea to compile a selection of our favourite sheer tights, so all our lovely customers can find a look that’s perfect for them!

The budget friendly – you simply can’t go wrong with the Aristoc Ultra Shine 10D Tights, amongst our bestsellers and coming with a glamorous shiny finish and choice of shades. Or opt for the Charnos Run Resist Sheer Tights if a matte look is more your thing…

Levante Class Control Tights

Levante Class Control Tights

A touch of luxury – with a chic 20 denier finish but robust 40 denier strength, the Wolford Neon 40 Tights are a real splash of quality for your hosiery drawer. If you’re after something extra special, look no further than the Falke Sensation Seamless 20 Tights, made without seams for a truly exquisite look and unrivalled comfort!

Match your skin tone perfectly – Available in 9 classic skin shades, the Falke Shelina Tights have an 8 denier appearance and slight sheen finish – a must-have for your hosiery capsule collection!

A helping hand – working to flatten your tummy, tame your thighs and lift your derriere, the Spanx In Power Line Super High Shaping Sheers come with an attached pair of classic sheer tights! Not bad, huh? Or for something a little more affordable, stock up on the Levante Class Control Tights – a real wardrobe staple! Want to read more about the rise in sheers?

New Ways to Wear Your Tights

Are you someone who wears the same 7 skirt/dress and tights combinations through the winter because of your limited scope of outfits that keep you warm? We at MyTights love finding innovative ways to wear our favourite tights, especially when it inspires us to change up our bland, everyday winter wardrobes. Through much internet browsing (and Pinterest hunting) I have compiled the perfect list of ways to change up your boring opaques-skirt combination and try some tights under ripped jeansdaring new outfit ideas.

  1. Lace/Patterned Tights + Ripped Jeans > This look has been all over the ‘Pinterest-sphere’ as a new, updated way to wear ripped jeans without looking like a slob. To achieve this look, simply wear your favourite pair of lace tights or patterned tights under your ripped jeans. Some of my favourite tights to pair with this look are the Jonathan Aston Sweet Roses Lace Tights, Trasparenze Sitar Tights, and Jonathan Aston Katusha Tights.
  2. Tights + Shorts > Dig up your shorts out of the bottom of your closets, ladies! Many Bloggers and Celebs alike have been using this trend to keep their summer wardrobe lasting through the cold winter months. Denim or printed, any shorts may be used for this trend. Plus, literally any pair of tights you may have lying around can be used. Pair some opaque tights with your printed shorts to channel your inner fashionista, or go for the causal denim shorts look with any pair of tights you desire.
  3. Tights as Pants > Okay, okay I know this is a hard NO in the moral fashion world… but hear me out. I’m not asking you to go literal with this trend and have your bottom fully exposed à la Rihanna or Lady Shorts_and_tights_slob_or_snobGaga. Pair a large, oversized t-shirt or flannel (that covers your bottom, of course!) with a thick pair of opaque tights. This look is both comfortable and when accessorized correctly, looks fabulous as well. Looking fabulous AND comfortable is never as easy thing to achieve… so try this look out! I promise the general public will not judge your ‘tights as pants’ choice.
  4. Over The Knee Socks > Please tell me I am not the only person obsessed with this look! Thigh high socks are back in trend, and they’re here to hopefully stay. Pair these socks with anything you’d usually wear tights with – dresses, shorts. skirts- and you will understand the obsession. This look may not keep you as warm as tights do (disclaimer), but the little bit of exposed skin is very much worth the updated look. Plus! If you get cold, layer a pair of sheer tights underneath your socks for that little bit of added warmth… it looks just as wonderful.

So throw out your usual rotation of winter outfits and change things up with these new, and different outfit ideas.

Tights to Get You Through the Winter

At last, the battle is over between warm weather and cold. The cold is here – and it is here to stay. With such a slow start to a colder autumn, we almost all forgot to stock up to prepare our legs for the upcoming winter months. Fear not, ladies, we have compiled the perfect guide of the tights you will need to keep your legs stylish and warm this winter.

fleece-thermal-tights

1. The classic black opaques: These should have been a given. Every winter wardrobe needs to start off with the LBD of the tights world. These tights will go with virtually any outfit you wear. And, want to know a secret? They also can be layered under your trousers for those colder days as an added layer of protection! Why don’t you try out our Levante 50D Suede Matte Opaque Tights or any other black opaques?

2. The coloured opaques:You cannot be boring all winter and just wear black. Mix up your winter wardrobe easily by adding a splash with our coloured tights. Might we suggest the Falke Pure Matt 100D Tights? Coming in the perfect range of wintery colours, these mega-thick tights will ensure your legs are protected from the elements all season long!

3. The party tights: This winter you’ll be sure to go to your fair share of seasonal events. Don’t let your legs go bare or boring with the dress you purchased (or found in your closet last minute)! Glittery Tights would be the perfect accessory to make your legs stand out from the crowd. We suggest that if you want to go all-out sparkle, to check out these Pamela Mann Lurex Micronet Tights.

4. The Mega-Warm Tights: There will be those days this winter when just the thought of leaving your house will make your teeth chatter. Conquer those extra-cold days with a pair of extra-thick opaques. These Pretty Polly 200D Fleecy Tights will do that job just perfectly. With their mega-thick, fleece-lined design; these tights are hailed by many as the “only stylish way to get through the winter”.

5. The Cable Knit Tights: Want to mimic the cosiness of your favourite jumper on your legs? This is what cable knit tights are essentially for! Pair these with a simple t-shirt dress for an adorably warm outfit that with the right accessories, can also be worn to the office. For a classic jumper texture, check out these Trasparenze Trailer tights.

If you follow our advice, you will ensure that you are not left out in the cold this winter… and your legs will thank you! Don’t worry, warm weather will come back to us faster than you know. What is the one pair of tights that you cannot live without in the winter?

Tights Essentials: The Tights Everyone Needs

It’s difficult to build a wardrobe from scratch, especially a tights one. I went to our social media platforms over the past few weeks and asked our followers ‘What tights can you not live without?’

These are their responses:

Falke Seidenglatt 70 denier Opaques

These tights are always a customer favourite- they have the thickness of an opaque but the shine of a sheer. They are a perfect tight to bring you from the office to drinks without having to change your legwear.

HOW TO WEAR PATTERNED TIGHTS

Summer is over, and unfortunately we all have to resign ourselves to the fact that England doesn’t quite stay warm forever. But we always have an answer to everything, right?

This season shows us that we don’t need to cover up completely, as patterned tights invaded the AW14 runways.

Vivienne Westwood led the pack in the AW14 patterned tights collection, with her diverse range of tartan-check hosiery and eccentric triangle print tights. Want to upgrade your wardrobe this autumn? We have some purse-friendly options to help you stay in style without breaking the bank!

Tartan

So AW13 saw the return of the tartan print thanks to Karl Lagerfield, with brands such as Valentino and Gucci quickly following suit to add plaid to their collections. Immensely popular, it makes a return for 2014 and this year experiments with geometric op art checks and autumnal colours, along with the classic red print.

Vivienne never fails to disappoint and this year, Westwood showed us how it’s done when they paired shapes with bold block coloured suits and leather. Why not try stepping outside the box and becoming a shape shifter this autumn?

Dots

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini (she will always be Cole to us, too!) was recently papped wearing a pair of spotted hosiery teamed with a black and gold mini dress, giving off a cute but stylish look. The spotty trend is back in, and with the sheen of the tights makes it so easy to dress them up or down whatever the occasion. If you wear a pair of skin coloured opaques underneath these styles, you’ll be sure to stay warm during the winter months, too!

INTERVIEW WEAR- WHY TIGHTS ARE A MUST!

There’s nothing worse than turning up for an interview and you’ve missed the attire ‘memo’. You may as well have turned up naked, and that reoccurring dream that haunted you since you were a child has just materialized. But of course, help is at hand here at MyTights.com! Here’s some guidance on how to ace that interview, and as we are judged within the first 7 seconds of meeting someone, the appearance is a pretty good place to start…

94% of interviewers have a negative impression on a candidate if they show up bare-legged*

Unfortunately we aren’t all blessed with naturally slender or blemish free legs, (or hot weather all year round!), and so this may not apply to many-  if Miranda Kerr and Beyoncé still invest in sheers then there’s no reason why we shouldn’t!

The ‘debate’…

Years ago the debate on whether women should or shouldn’t wear tights to the workplace was unheard of, and pantyhose were a woman’s best friend. Many women still live by this, and this is something candidates need to consider! Your potential employers are probably not your age so wearing tights is a must for them, and as a potential newbie you don’t want to give any of the senior team a reason to dislike you! After you’ve been hired, you can then get a feel for the company to then decided whether going bare-legged can be accepted.

Company culture

You may be asked to dress in business casual and if so then fretting whether you should or shouldn’t wear tights won’t be an issue. BUT don’t assume that all businesses dress this way; make sure to ask and get a full brief policy description.

“For women, the more skin you show, the less influence you have.”

So, now we’ve discovered that tights are a BIG deal in an interview (who knew?!) now all you have to do is CHOOSE a pair…

Colours are limited, as although coloured and patterned tights are ‘in’, wearing the newest AW14 trend to an interview for a financial position in a bank may not be appreciated; so for ultimate safety stick to Nude or Black tights.

Opaques

These 50 denier suede matt opaque tights are an essential to the winter wardrobe this season, super soft and smooth against your legs they can be worn with any fabric skirt and perfect for an interview!

levante-suede-matt

Nude sheers-

These sheers have been around since 1937 (with a few tweaks to keep them up to date with hosiery innovation, of course), so we are pretty certain that they are a good catch. These 10 denier tights are cherished for their ultra-glossy finish, and with high durability and wear you can’t go wrong!

Black

With a broad selection of dark colours to choose from, these glossy Wolfords will have any interviewer wishing they’ve got a pair!

FISHNETS: DOS AND DON’TS

Tom Ford brought sexy back JT style this season with fishnet tights, so we thought we would share some of our wisdom with you so there are no excuses for any Avril circa 2002 fishnet faux pas…You’re welcome.

DO…

> Trust the designers- they know what they’re talking about. Tom Ford wasn’t the main man behind the Gucci turnaround in the late ‘90s for no reason; he knows how to style a woman. Have faith!

fishnet

> Have confidence in yourself, not just the designer. The most awkward thing to see is someone feeling uncomfortable. If you don’t feel yourself- don’t wear them!

> Less is more, remember? Why not wear fishnets underneath your trouser suit at the office with a pair of heels if you want to feel more confident but aren’t quite willing to show the whole leg.

> Try a pencil skirt with some leather boots, so your knee is the only bit of fishnet flesh on show.

> Dress yourself down in other areas:

>>For work & daytime: light lipstick, minimal make up, a pencil skirt and a blouse

>>For evenings- minimal make up – just because it’s dark doesn’t mean it’s a good idea to slap on the red lippy(!) – a tight midi skirt with a pair of boots and a light cropped jacket, or a plain coloured jersey dress.

> Wear sheer bare look tights underneath the fishnets if you want to keep warm this season. Try Falke Shelina Tights for this look, with several options to match your skin tone!

DON’T…

honeycomb-tights-main_1_2

> Deliberate in buying fishnets with holes in them. Unless you’re going to a fancy dress party. Even then I wouldn’t advise it.

> Wear stilettos or sky high heels- instead try a casual boot or a wedged boot.

> Do a Rihanna/Miley Cyrus and wear fishnet and NOTHING else. You won’t pull it off and you may be arrested.

> Overestimate your coolness, bright tights underneath green fishnets don’t work for everyone, so don’t assume you’re suddenly Taylor Momsen because you’ve purchased a pair of quirky tights. Black or nude is the safest choice of colour.

> Feel like you have to convert overnight- there are plenty of options if you want to be subtle but part of the fishnet craze this autumn.Try the Charnos Honey comb fishnets- with a matte finish; these tights hold a subtle honeycomb design that decorates legs whilst giving you a comfortable and warm feel- perfect all year round!

> Think that wearing a low cut top; a mini skirt and fishnets is in fashion, it’s not. Keep it classy.

Why not try…

Levante fishnet tights

These pair of classic fishnets by Levante are a seasonal must-have, available in different shades and with no gusset; they are perfect to wear day and night and for any occasion.

Pamela Mann Fishnet seamed tights

These Pamela Mann Fishnets are perfect for elongating those pins whilst giving off a flirty but flattering look. Perfect for going out or evening wear.

Straight from the catwalk…

One of our favourite designers Tom Ford shows us how it’s done with a coordinated office suit and a pair of simple black boots.
