After Amanda Holden’s recent baby announcement, she became yet another celebrity ambassador for for the Spanx maternity range – following in the footsteps of Danni Minogue and Tess Daly, who both wore Spanx to support their bumps and firm their bottoms!
However the Mama Spanx maternity range has been getting some mixed media attention, as some suggest women should forget about their waistlines and embrace motherhood. A spokesperson for Spanx has insisted that their maternity range is not meant, or designed for, ‘concealment’, but rather, for support. The maternity range works differently to the rest of the Spanx collection – supporting the stomach, rather than flattening.
ThinkBaby.co.uk spoke to Spanx who confirmed that “Maternity Spanx are really about supporting your baby bump and your back whilst also reducing the rear and thighs rather than slimming a bump. The idea is that they grow with you through your pregnancy to provide support throughout. It is very important for pregnant women to wear the maternity Spanx rather than regular Spanx as there is no compression in the bump area.” (Fiona Prentice, Spanx UK)
We completely agree with Spanx being used for support as oppose to concealment, because a baby bump is not something you should be trying to hide! If you’re still feeling self conscious about your bottom or thighs, these will help slim your behind whilst you show off your bump!
