Retro style has never been more current, thanks to the various nods to the past by some of our favourite designers each season. From swinging 60s to 20s opulence, make sure you’re making the most of your tights drawer with our favourite retro looks…
For a swinging 60s look you can’t go wrong with bold coloured tights. Choose shades of olive green, mustard yellow and rusty orange to get the 60s vibe. Choose matte and ultra thick opaques or wool tights – think Velma from Scooby Doo geek chic. Combine with print smocks, mini skirts and monochrome for a look worthy of the decade that brought us the Beatles, flower power and the summer of love.
Seamed hosiery is deliciously decadent and remind us of the 40s super sophisticated style. We personally love the classic black back seam but there are loads of modern variations out there including glitter seams, colour pop seams and lace and net designs, too. Team yours with pencil skirts and polka dots, and add a vintage vanity case instead of a handbag. For even more realism switch your usual tights for stockings – yes, they’re not as practical, but they look great and you’ll feel like whole new woman when you wear them.
We loved the 20s for their sheer frivolity, and the fashion that went alongside the fun certainly
doesn’t disappoint. Embellished or glitter tights are perfect for getting the look – try the Jonathan Aston Starburst sheer tights which have a scattering of sequins over the leg and are available in black or nude. Team with a fringed handbag and drop waist dress and we guarantee you’ll be Charlestoning your way to work in no time! Glam the look up with t-bar heels for authentic flapper style, or dress it down for daytime with the addition of a boxy blazer and loafers.
It’s no wonder designers everywhere look to times gone by to pick up inspiration – we love these looks and can’t wait to take our own advice and
try them out. So whatever decade you feel a natural affinity with, get your pins in on the action with our selection of retro fashion tights and let your legs do the talking!
