If you’ve been wondering why you haven’t seen the fashion in-crowd much in the press of late, that’s because they’ve all been locked away in Somerset House, admiring the new designer collections for AW15! Don’t worry if you haven’t had time to catch up on the new styles emerging from London Fashion Week, the MyTights team are here to fill in all the blanks and round up our favourite hosiery looks for the upcoming season! And what a great week it was – we were thrilled to see just how much legwear made the cut. Here’s our round-up of the best styles that you’ll be wearing come the autumn…

Spotty sheers at GILES

Oroblu Adelle Tights

Oroblu Adelle Tights

While there was an abundance of tights and socks on the catwalk, we’ve narrowed it down to four main trends which stood out, the first of which was spots! It doesn’t take a genius to work out that spots are set to be huge in the coming months, not only appearing at the Diane Von Furstenberg show at New York last week but also being a consistent part of Giles Deacon AW15 collection.

Every single one of his models paired their gothic ensembles with black spotty sheers, a look that we loved! While this monochrome ensemble may be a bit OTT for a trip to the shops, we’ll certainly be copying the tights. How? With the Oroblu Adelle Tights of course, which are identical to the tights worn by the GILES models.

For something a little different, head for the Wolford Poppy Tights – all the appeal of spots but with an asymmetrical design for a quirky twist.

Time to banish your black opaques to the back of the drawer, ladies! Colour is set to reign in AW15, appearing at the shows of Preen, Costelloe and Daks to name but a few. Our favourite look stemmed from Costelloe, in particularly the gorgeous berry opaques as seen on the right. Paired with a red velvet coat with a skater style bottom, the great thing about shades like this is that they’re not too loud, meaning they can be worn well…just about anywhere! Burgundys, forest greens and deep violets were the biggest trends we spotted, which is brilliant, as we have the perfect way to recreate the look with the Pamela Mann 50 Denier Tights! Available in no less than 20 colours, these 50 denier opaques are a) affordable, b) versatile and c) fabulously on-trend! If something a little more luxurious is up your street, another option are the Falke Pure Matt 100 Tights, which come in eight colours and benefit from a multitude of quality features, not to mention a super soft finish.

London Fashion Week was something of a sock frenzy – no arguments from us! From colourful ankle socks to black knee highs, socks featured just about everywhere, adding a cute and preppy touch to the looks and offering some warmth at the same time. For us, the best looks were seen at Jones and Daks, particularly the mustard yellow socks as seen on the left. Coming from much-loved designer duo Teatum Jones, the vibrant socks worked perfectly with the kooky patterned dress and fringed shoes. Okay, so we don’t think we’d opt for this much colour and pattern at once, but we’ll definitely be pulling out our colourful socks! Great with denim shorts and day dresses, you’ll be the height of fashion in the Trasparenze Monique Ankle Socks. Whether you opt for the Giallo shade a la Jones or any of the other 12 hues, these are the inexpensive way to nail the hot ankle socks trend.

Wet look

There’s nothing like a high shine finish to inject some rock chick glamour in to your look! Which was exactly the thoughts of Huisghan Zhang, it would seem, who included an array of gorgeous wet look tights into her designs. Keeping it classic in black, her models teamed their glossy legwear with printed dresses and heeled sandals for a look that was brimming with allure. We hear you, it might not be suitable for everyday life, but there’s nothing stopping you opting for some wet look hosiery for a glamorous evening look. To master the trend, the new Wolford Estella Leggings are perfect, even coming with a quirky seam at the knee for yet more fashion points. For something more budget-friendly, the Trasparenze Callophrys Leggings may be just the thing…

New Year Fash-olutions: Our top ten

It’s that time of year again. New Year, new you! 2015 is going to be different. This year, you’re going to banish the carbs, work up a sweat at the gym 5 times a week and quit the booze, right?

We envy you if you manage to stick to your January promises, but let’s be honest, it’s not always easy. So why not save yourself the guilt come early February and make some New Year resolutions that you can stick to? In our eyes, the perfect way to bring in 2015 in style is to revamp your hosiery collection. With this in mind, the MyTights team have been busily compiling a selection of our own fash-olutions (get it?)

Here are our top ten…

1) Don’t stress, invest: We’ve all got that token pair of tights in our drawer that we bought on a whim – an impulse buy that you convinced yourself you’d wear once a week, but in reality, have never been taken out of the packet. So this year, spend some time in creating a capsule collection of quality basics that you will actually wear – we’re talking black opaques and luxury sheers!

2) Organisation is key: nobody wants to be rummaging through their bedside table at 6am, desperately trying to find THAT pair of tights that will finish off your outfit perfectly. So take action; throw out anything you haven’t worn in the last year and organise your fashion tights with the brilliant Stoxbox. A neat and tidy hosiery drawer awaits…

3) Be braver: fashion is there to be experimented with, so instead of wishing you could pull off a pair of suspender tights that you’ve seen in a celebrity magazine, go out and try it! You never know, you might find a new hosiery BFF. Ankle socks are a great place to start!

4) Discover your perfect skintone shade: it may take a little bit of trial and error to find exactly what you’re after, but finding your perfect skin tone shade is a must. Not only will it save you time and money, it’ll give you no end of confidence and allow you to pull off a bare leg look with panache! Need a little help? Check out our in-depth skintone guide.

5) Turn your back on black: colour, colour, colour! Black opaques are a necessary component of every staple collection, but it’s entirely possible to achieve a similarly chic and classic look with a pair of coloured tights. We’re not saying opt for bright yellow straight away, but why not try out muted tones like navy, burgundy and dark grey?

6) Find the ideal shapewear for problem areas: shapewear can be daunting at first – what will work for you? Is it worth the money? The MyTights shapewear guide is there to help, offering you all the advice you need to find something suitable for your problem zones. The hassle-free way to a streamlined silhouette!

7) Throw out your odd socks: most of us have done it at some point, haven’t we? Whether intentional or not, odd socks are a fashion faux pas. Start off the year with a clean slate – grab a bin bag, throw your rejects away and replace them with our fabulous range of quality socks. Something for every style!

8) Know the key trends: a capsule collection is a great idea, but it’s always nice to a mix it up a bit with a patterned pair of fashion tights! To ensure your legwear is current and on-trend, take it upon yourself to follow the catwalks at London Fashion Week to find the most up to date styles. We’ll no doubt be blogging about it as it happens, too, so watch this space!

Levante Relax Medium Support Tights

9) Suffer no more: if you spend a long time on your feet at work, it’s not unusual for your legs to feel tired and jaded come the end of the day. In 2015, tell yourself that enough is enough – give your pins the attention they deserve with a pair of our excellent support tights. No longer limited to frumpy and unflattering tights, our range of support tights are sourced from an array of industry leading brands… so it’s entirely possible to channel a chic legwear look AND have a spring in your step in the process.

10) Put yourself first!: Last but not least…treat yourself. Feeling confident is hugely important, and a brilliant way to boost your mood in the miserable winter months. After all, if you look great, you feel great. So this year, if you’ve spotted a pair of tights that you can’t stop thinking about, don’t worry about the price…splash out and put yourself first!

Happy New Year!

FASHION WEEK: Tights Highlights from SS15

The month of endless Fashion Week(s) have come and gone. From New York to Paris,  designers from all over showcased their newest designs for Spring/Summer 2015. While we have just gotten into autumn, it is NEVER too early to start thinking about the upcoming trends for this spring. We here at MyTights have all the upcoming tights trends here for you so you can start stocking up early.

New York

Footless Black Tights seemed to be a popular accessory at the Polo Ralph Lauren Show. While these specific tights are paired with pretty white lace dresses and black accessories, these tights can be styled in virtually any way- from dressed up to dressed down.

The Fashion World exploded when Tom Ford gave us lots of legs styled with Black Hold Ups all over his runway in London. Styled with LBD’s, black hold ups are yet another versatile accessory that can easily be brought from day to night with a simple change in hemline.

Still not sure about socks with heels? David Longshaw showed us in London that this trend will be very alive this upcoming spring by pairing pretty socks with heels on all of his models. This trend is perfect for early spring/late fall when you want to still wear your strappy sandals without having your toes get too cold. Protection and style, what more could you ask for!?

Giamba donned all her models in white spotty tights on her runway in Milan. While we do not have white spots in stock (they have been dully noted though), black will work just as well with this trend. Take Giamba’s advice and do not be afraid to mix the spots with more spots or floral patterns.

Dolce and Gabbana shared lots of hosiery trends on their runway. My personal favorite was floraly, lacy knee high socks. These socks can be very versatile and compliments almost any outfit. Pair with strappy sandals to wear when the weather isn’t quite warm enough.

Jean Paul Gaultier said au revoir to his ‘ready to wear’ career by pulling off the most outrageously fun fashion show of Paris Fashion Week- I was extremely jealous of this ‘beauty pageant’. Many of his models were clothed in coloured tights. Pair with anything from denim shorts to a LBD as these tights are very versatile.

Last, but definitely not least: Louis Vuitton also stepped onto the tights bandwagon this year by dressing his models in lace tights. Do not be afraid to pair these tights with a pattered dress like Louis Vuitton did, it looks wonderfully fun!

World Cup Legwear!

Have you heard? The World Cup began last week in Brazil, and even though we would rather be on a beach in Rio de Janeiro, we’ll just have to make do and show off our English pride from the homeland.  In addition to any face paint you may feel the need to apply, make sure to show your support with a selection of legwear we have chosen to complete your football ensemble.

If you’re feeling especially supportive of the hosting country, try the Trasparenze Gennifer Merino Wool Tights in Bosco.  Your forest green legs will let everyone know you’re ready for kick-off and the dark colour is easy to style.  If you want a lighter weight tight, try Pamela Mann’s 50 Denier Tights in Forest Green.  For the brighter side of things, try them in Mustard and pair with a light coloured dress.

If you want a look that mirrors those of the men on the field, try our Trasparenze Cinzia Knee High Socks in Olivia. These knee high socks will add a fun and youthful look to your outfit and keep in spirit with the World Cup.  Wear them with flats or heeled booties and you’re ready to take on your day, football style.

If you’re feeling more English than Brazilian, we’ve got you covered.  The Falke Cotton Touch Short Socks in Cherry Red will bring just enough to spirit and colour to your outfit to show you’re a fan yet still be fashion forward. For a bolder look, try Pamela Mann’s 80 Denier Tights in Flo Red and show your support of the England National Team.

Whether you’re truly interested in the sport or just the fashion inspired by it, be sure to check out and score big.

Socks, socks and even more socks!

HH_SS12If like me you’ve had one eye on the weather and one eye on the catwalks, you’ll soon notice that ankle socks have become hot news. Helping to show off a post-holiday tan and frame those new pointed courts, ankle socks have become a must have item for stylists and fashionistas alike. No longer content with bare legs this summer, fashion has dictated that no ankles will go without. Ideal if you feel the chill and are fed up of blisters ruining your heels and your day, the sock drawer update couldn’t have come at a better time!

From edgy fishnet socks at Holly Fulton to ultra sheer anklets at Louise Goldin, it’s clear that catwalks have gone gaga for the style, using them to break up a hosiery free leg and adding a little sartorial finishing touch to creations. Of course, high-streets have since caught on, teaming them with any and every combination – jelly shoes (remember those?!), dungarees and even prom dresses. Quirky clothing aside, the gorgeous weather recently has presented us with the perfect opportunity to flaunt our socks so what better way to celebrate the sunshine than to update that sock drawer?

Now, given that honesty is the best policy, I’ll hold my hands up and admit that styling my socks with flirty hemlines would not be part of morning routine. For me, it all depends on the footwear – the chunkier, the more likely I am to call upon my ankle socks. I’ve quickly learnt that ankle boots and trainers are not built for a sock free look, and sadly sore feet are the price to pay for their absence! For a silky smooth feel and a touch of luxury, I rely on the Velvet Socks from Wolford. As classic as they are chic, these will slip hassle free underneath shoes along with bridging the gap between trousers and ankles. Keeping your shoe protected and your foot in complete comfort, these come in two versatile shades, with a vibrant pink to keep colour enthusiasts happy too.

Fearne Cotton leaving the studios of Radio 1, London, Britain - 22 Mar 2011And from the functional to the fashionable, it seems that ankle socks have quickly adopted the prints & pattern trend that’s set to take over our wardrobe in the upcoming months. From rebellious tartan to Burberry hearts, you’ll be pushed to find a sock that doesn’t slot into an AW13 trend. To pick up some fashion brownie points, treat bare ankles to the Pamela Mann Tartan Ankle Socks. Especially commissioned for MyTights, these colourful patterned socks will work their magic on any outfit, transforming those worn out brogues and adding a little interest underneath cropped jeans. More high end fashion than Highland fling (you only have to look at Versace and Prada AW13 collections to see how much designers love tartan), these will act as an instant couture hit. For those that can’t get enough of peep toes, you’ll be pleased to discover that the toes of your ankle socks are reinforcement free too! Likewise, the charming Sweet Roses Anklets from Jonathan Aston are ideal for adding an on-trend touch to footwear. Equals parts lacy and lovely, the lust have ankle socks have even been spotted on red carpet regular Kristen Stewart in the pages of Vogue! For an elegant evening style, opt for the goes-with-everything black shade, whilst the angelic ivory colour would go down a treat at a garden party.

Given that glam-grunge is set for a big revival come September, I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t give you a few insider tips. First off is fishnet.  And lots of it. Setting the grungy and serious 90s tone for the approaching season, fashion house heavyweights Marc Jacob and YSL showed us that the netted fabric can be worn in just about any form. Tights, gloves and dresses amongst others paid homage to the fishnet, leaving wardrobes bracing themselves for a netted takeover. To make sure that your legs remain current and ahead of the fash pack, invest in the Falke Net Knee Highs. Admittedly longer than the usual ankle length, these fishnet socks will look fab scrunched down or folded over. LFW_sep10_anklesocksNext on the trend list – sultry sheers. Reminding us that sheer ankle socks are not just for locking in warmth underneath trousers, Chanel used the sheer fabric to inject a sense of ‘je ne sais quois’ into an outfit. To combine the grunge trend with a lady like aesthetic, wear your Levante Ritz Anklets with loafers and a retro circle skirt.

It’s not common knowledge that getting dressed in the morning is tricky enough without having to sift through your sock drawer, so take the drama out of anklet anguish by investing in one of every colour? Far more achievable than it sounds, Italian brand Trasparenze have made it possible for you to paint a rainbow with your feet – without breaking the bank. As chic as they are cheery, the cotton rich Monique Socks come in just about every shade imaginable, and then some. Whether neon pops are your thing or you’re simply searching for the perfect pair of coloured socks to go with that dress, you’re bound to discover your favourite hue.

So whether you’re looking to banish blisters  or you’re just in need of updating your hosiery collection (and sock drawer!), make sure to treat feet to some fabulous new ankle socks – just in time for AW13.

Until next time ladies…

Our Top Picks: June

Each month we’ll pick our top three products, and tell you why…

naturals-sideria-tights1)      Pretty Polly Naturals Sideria Tights

Why?  The newest addition to the bestselling Naturals collection by Pretty Polly, these bare leg look sheers are the hosiery world’s equivalent of Superman.  A V line brief means any height of hemline goes, sandals toes make peep toes possible and a cotton gusset provides breathability and a superior fit.  The 5 denier appearance means they look so natural on your leg no one will guess you’re wearing tights unless you choose to share – but the 15 denier strength is an indication that these aren’t only a one-wear wonder, either.

Wear to: the races

Style With: Anything – they’re so natural looking you’ll be able to wear them with everything, any time you want a flawless bare leg look.  If you are off to the races, though, we recommend sky high heels, a sleek, chic shift and a show-stopping hat.

How much? £6.00 / €8,50 / $15.00

2)      Jonathan Aston Dream Tights

Why? The clue’s in the name – these Jonathan Aston beauties are romantic,

Jonathan Aston Dream Tights

whimsical style to a T.  The butterfly trend is huge this season – the print is everywhere, thanks to designers like Mary Katrantzou and the high street shops which have hopped on the bandwagon with haste.  These summery sheers take full advantage and are covered from toe to waist in a super sweet butterfly design.

Wear to: summer garden parties

Style With: Floaty chiffon dresses, embellished pumps and flowers in your hair

How much? £12.50 / €13,60 / $20.75

3)      Trasparenze Marta 70D Ankle Highs

Why?  The ankle socks trend is sticking around for another summer, so if you haven’t yet, it’s time to get involved.  These ankle socks

from Trasparenze are perfect – cute, inexpensive and available in a rainbow of hues.

Wear to: laid back lunches with the girls

Style With: Chunky heeled strappy sandals and a short skater dress – ankle socks can shorten pins so high hemlines will

counterbalance this by exposing more leg at the other end.

How much? A purse friendly £3.95 / €4,75 / $6.25 – so you can stock up on all the shades!

How to: Wear Ankle Socks

sweet-roses-ankletAnkle socks have been a core trend for the last few summers, and as this year it looks as though it’s going to extend through the autumn as well (we’re already dreading the chilly legs we’re going to endure in the name of fashion) we’ve decided that, if you haven’t already, now is the time to dip a toe (pun intended) into the ankle socks trend. Helpfully, we spotted two famous faces rocking the trend at the Glamour Awards this week and demonstrating exactly how to wear the trend – and how not to.  Ronnie Corbett’s wife Sophie faced off against songstress VV Brown – and poor Sophie learnt the hard way that when it comes to ankle socks, there are a few hard and fast rules that even the most daring of fashionistas must adhere to…

1)      Colour Coding

DO: Blend your colours.  VV Kept a clean palette, with beige ankle socks teamed with a beautiful pale yellow gown and brown strappy wedges; all set off beautifully by her warm skintone and glossy, rich brown locks.

DON’T: Be too matchy matchy.  Matching your ankle socks to your accessories is never a good idea unless you want to look like a five year old.  Sadly, Sophie chose to ignore this and matched her bubblegum pink ankle socks to a scarf which, for a reason unbeknown to anyone but herself, she had decided to tie around her waist.

2)      Dressing them Up

DO: Make your ankle socks work for evening with luxe fabrics in silks, chiffons and satins.  VV’s silky yellow robe was an unexpected stroke of fashion genius.  Or else try anklets in dainty lace for an instant evening update.

DON’T: Wear a floor length leather dress, unbuttoned to mid thigh.  Not just when you’re rocking ankle socks – ever.

3)      Accessorising

DO: Keep it minimal.  VV Brown kept it sleek and chic, with no jewellery or patterns and minimalist strappy sandals.  Even her hair was fuss free, pulled away from her face in two pretty but fuss-free plaits.

DON’T: Accessorise with a husband that is ever more poorly dressed than you.  Particularly if he’s wearing tartan trousers.

When Grunge Meets Glam!

The preening and prepping of London Fashion Week has come and gone, so it’s time for fashion to take a break from all things proper and show off its rebellious side!

Whilst pencil skirts and kitten heels are having their moment in the trend spotlight right now, we haven’t abandoned our punk roots. From leather to worn in denim, we can’t help but indulge in a slightly messier ensemble once in a while, and everything gets a dose of attitude – from our makeup right down to our hosiery.

We’re in love with

viagra for sale

this grungy-glam tribute, featured in today’s The Sun. Demonstrating that punk and pretty can go hand in hand, they’ve teamed punchy neon shades with faded denim, with plenty of spikey accessories to boot. Naturally, no punk inspired outfit can be complete without a signature cross pattern, so our Pamela Mann Opaque Cross Tights take centre stage. Great for adding a pinch of attitude, you can choose to show your patterned tights off in a flirty hemline. For the more demure amongst us, wear underneath a simple black shirt dress, stepping into heeled ankle boots for a subtle punk style that’s office-friendly too! Remember to add at least one bright accessory though, keeping your ensemble stylish rather than somber.

If you fancy taking your newly found grunge persona out in the evening, go for the sheerer Pamela Mann Sheer Crosses Tights. Sexy and subtle, team these with killer heels and a leather skater skirt, adding a bold lip for a colour pop. For those who still adore suspender tights, the Pamela Mann Cross Suspender Tights are just the ticket, with an opaque mock suspender that works to provide coverage from the chill, whilst the sheerer top part reveals a glimpse of skin.

And for when the sun comes out? Okay, so we’re not counting on this anytime soon, but when it does decide to turn up, we’ve got our sunshine-friendly punk style down to a tee. Add fishnet socks to a circle skirt to toughen it up, or team our Trasparenze Monique Ankle Socks with a chunky flatform. With every colour of the rainbow available, there’s no excuse to not collect them all! For those DIY fans, why not try adding studs to the top of your ankle socks, for a look that Vivienne Westwood, queen of punk couture would be proud of?

So neglect those kitten heels for a moment ladies, and make way for leather, denim and attitude!

Hollywood Takes On Hosiery

Hollywood seems to be having a moment with hosiery it appears, as we’ve spotted two (not one but two!!) stunning starlets from the Hills parading their oh-so-beautiful tights.

First off was Emma Watson, featured in the October edition of Glamour magazine. We’re a big fan of the 22 year old in the office, from staple trenches to covetable bag arm candy, she clearly understands what works and what doesn’t work.

Judging by this shoot, the Harry Potter actress quite clearly does have style by the bucket load. Grown up glamour with a British edge is the theme as Emma teams a quirky tartan skirt and an Orient inspired patterned top with our Falke Fine Net Dots tights.

Available in black and in nude, the dainty tights prove that the spotty tights trend is here to stay. With Falke notorious for their high quality products, the silky tights made from fine micromesh certainly do not disappoint. What you can’t see though, and what is sadly hidden away under that pleated skirt is the lacy mock hold up design. Mid thigh, this fabulous design means that you have two trends in one pair of tights.

Make your outfit all about the spots like Emma, or team these beauties with a short hemline to get involved in the popular mock hold ups trend.

Next to inject more glamour into our day was Kristen Stewart. Hot property at the moment (perhaps for reasons other than

acting and fashion) the Twilight actress is in this month’s edition of Vogue. Proving to the world that she’s not fussed by the media scrum she’s been propelled

into, Stewart shows us how to work possibly the cutest trend ever with a gothic twist –

Positively vamping up our Jonathon Aston Sweet Rose Anklets, the 22 year old teams them with a pair of daring black hotpants, paying homage to the grunge trend that’s gracing magazine columns at the moment. With fierce red kitten heels, a graphic sweatshirt and dripping in vintage jewellery she gives the flirty ankle socks some serious attitude.

Make like Kristen and wear them with a bare leg to make them stand out or if you’re in the market for more leg coverage, team with skin coloured or black sheer tights? If they’re good enough for someone who went out with Robert Pattinson, then they’re good enough for us! Available in both black and white.
