Get the Look: Beyonce in Leather Look Leggings!

Beyonce does biker chick!

Beyonce does biker chick!

Wolford Estella Leggings

Wolford Estella Leggings

International pop star, superstar husband, insanely talented. Is there anything that Beyonce can’t do?  It appears not, as this week she added yet another string to her already jam packed bow – style icon! Stepping out for a post-Grammys dinner with husband Jay Z and Ed Sheeran in a gorgeous pair of leather look leggings, Beyonce worked her curves to a tee, mastering the often difficult rock chick style. Teaming her biker leggings with a black leather jacket, statement tee and leather ankle boots (of course), the fabulous look has caused quite the stir in MyTights HQ – we just love her! If, like us, you’d love to be a little more like Beyonce herself, the good news is you can recreate her look with just a few simple clicks. Landing in our offices only last week (perfect timing), the Wolford Estella Leggings will give you the same statement look as the Queen Bee herself, with their high shine finish, skin-tight fit and quirky seam above the knee. You may not have her millions or bank, or maybe even her vocal range, but here’s how to get it right:

1) Experiment with patterns – while the leggings may make a statement in their own right, that doesn’t mean you can’t rock some colour and patterns on your top half. Beyonce’s statement tee was a great look – opt for stripes, aztec and spots to recreate,

2) The more leather the better – the key to nailing the rock chick look is to make leather your best friend; you can never have enough! Pull out your biker jacket and studded boots, ladies!

3) Jewellery is a must – the perfect accessory to leather, accessorise your look to perfection with chunky rings and a statement necklace.

She can do no wrong in our opinion! See our entire range of fashion leggings, here.

5 Ways to Wear: Fishnets

jonathan-aston-faith-tightsFishnets are having a bit of a moment at the, erm, moment.  We’re almost bored of talking about it, but it seems as though certain people have got very wound up by all the fishnet tights and leather on display at the Chime for Change concert in London last week.

With J-Lo strutting her stuff in fishnets and thigh high boots and Beyoncé opting for nude fishnets and leather micro shorts, their outfits certainly were showstopping – and not to everyone’s taste, we’re sure.  But we’d like point out that these were celebs on stage, not on the school run or down their local on a Friday night.  Much like the catwalk, stage costumes are meant to be highly visual and are not designed to translate to everyday life.  It’s also worth remembering that it was all for a good cause.

Whatever your take on their outfits, we’ve pulled together our top 5, completely wearable, ways to work your fishnets this summer…

Beyoncé Bans Tour Photos – But Her Pins Always Look Amazing

Beyonce_Glasto2Single Ladies singer Beyoncé has hit the headlines again over her attempt for total image control.  It seems the former Destiny’s child singer is insecure about certain pictures that have emerged, despite being the archetypal pin up girl for bootylicious body confidence.

She first hit the headlines back in February when her publicist was reported as asking website Buzzfeed to remove “unflattering” images of the stars Superbowl performance.  Now the singer has again courted controversy after the Daily Mail reported that she has banned all press photographers from her tour – except for her personal official photographer, who has allegedly been hired to capture her most flattering moments.

It’s hard to disagree when you see the released “approved” pictures.  Photographed in a variety of outfits on tour, the images all have one thing in common – a fabulous looking Beyoncé, with no awkward poses or deranged grimaces.  And as usual, the star is wearing her favourite fishnet tights throughout which make her legs look amazing.

Stockings: Through The Years

Rihanna rocks hers with just a t-shirt. Beyonce shows hers off on stage. Paris Hilton adores wearing mock versions of them. It seems no other style has come further in the hosiery world than stockings. Once used as a method to protect your modesty during the 19th century, stockings are now the finishing touch to any ensemble.

Craving a vintage backseam? A fan of fishnet stockings? Throughout the years, designers have played with new patterns and fabrics to bring you the latest trend to hit the catwalks and dominate the high streets. But where did it all begin?

Well, as it so happens, both men and women took a fancy to stockings before the introduction of trousers in the 18th century. After that, the demand was driven by females alone, as the Victorian era dictated that to flash a bit of ankle bordered on obscene! With the emphasis on functionality rather than fashion, stockings were to be hidden away under dresses and skirts, tucked into corners of the wardrobe.

It was only after World War 1 that stockings became a little less about modesty and little more about style, as designers began to play with new shades and tones. By the 1920’s, the nations obsession with ankles had deteriorated and with this stockings developed a new found role – to decorate legs! With women encouraged to show off their pins, hosiery brands were forced to find newer and more exciting products to feed the ever expanding hunger – and this is exactly how nylon stockings came to fruition.

Invented in the UK but created across the pond in the USA, the stockings were given their name from the two locations – NY and LONdon (don’t say we never

teach you anything!). After going on sale in 1940, the nation managed to get their hands on over 64 million pairs within the year. And that’s a lot of nylon! With the arrival of the ultra stretchy Lycra in 1959, stockings took on a new lease of life, providing stretch and durability like never before. Our favourite Pretty Polly Nylons Tights were a direct result of this, and they continue to combine classic glamour with a gorgeous fit. Available in 9 different shades, there’s an option for every outfit and occasion, with a back seam version too for all those vintage enthusiasts.

Of course, the obsession with mini-skirts and risqué hemlines soon impacted the demand for stockings in the 60s, as tights began to take over in the hosiery race. Thankfully, it appears that this hasn’t dampened our desire for stockings at all, as the nation still relies on the style to deliver allure and comfort time after time. And for those who crave a little more

coverage? Try out the fab mock suspender tights, for a faux stocking design that delivers the warmth of sheers. Hooray!

So whether you’re after a more demure style or full on flirty fun, shop our stocking collection now to find the perfect pair!

Put a Spring in Your Step With Pretty Polly & Henry Holland SS13 Collections

There’s no denying that Pretty Polly is one of the most well-known names in the world of hosiery for a reason.  Keeping our pins perfected and protected since 1919, they have successfully navigated the fine line between keeping their older customers happy with a constant catalogue of amazing basics, while bringing their fashion tights collections to a new hosiery audience.  The proof is in the pudding, and with Beyoncé’s Superbowl backing dancers

clad in Pretty Polly’s secret socks collection, no one could question that Pretty Polly have still got their finger firmly on the fashion pulse.

We shouldn’t be surprised, then, that their spring/summer range is nothing less than all out fabulous.  Butterfly prints are set to be HUGE in the coming months, and the Fly Flutterby Tattoo Tights feature a gorgeous tattoo-style butterfly design – so you can tick off two trend boxes in one.  Seams also feature but with a sexy, modern twist; like the Mesh Frontseam Tights which are made from a fine micromesh and feature a striking front seam.  We love the Pretty Puzzling Jigsaw Backseam Tights, which feature a backseam design made from puzzle pieces!  The quirky style shows Pretty Polly have been picking up some tips from their partnership with House of Holland designer Henry Holland.

Beyonce’s suspenders

There is certainly no shortage of demand for the stockings and suspenders look.  After Rihanna was spotted in London wearing the Henry Holland Super Suspender Tights, sales have been going through the roof.  Mock stockings are fine and all but sometimes there really is nothing like the real thing.  The 40s and 50s revivals have played their part in making real stockings a cult fashion accessory but now global superstar Beyonce has been spotted sporting suspenders and black sheer plain top stockings in her recent video clip promoting her new song ‘Dance For You’.  Could this be the beginning of a new era for suspender belts and stockings?

Stockings and suspenders have already earned a modest fan base of A-listers like Katie Perry, Lily Allen, Rihanna and Lady Gaga, none of whom are afraid of flashing their fancy hosiery at various high-profile events and concerts.  Now singer, actress, fashion designer and mum-to-be Beyonce has been seen showing off her stocking tops in her new 1940s themed music video.  Worn under a slinky silk wraparound dress she looks like an old fashioned screen siren but with bags of extra sex appeal.

Get Beyonce’s look and treat yourself to something special with the Wolford Individual 10 Stockings.  If you are just trying stockings and suspenders out for the first time and you are looking for something more affordable, then we’d recommend the Aristoc Ultra Shine Stockings which come in a range of four colours for a sexy black or classic nude look.

If you want to go one better than Beyonce, we also have a great range of fishnets, back seamed and opaque stockings too so you can experiment and find the style that suits you best. We love the Jonathan Aston Contrast Seam and Heel Lycra Stockings for a classic sexy look with a little hint of colour at the backseam.  Alternatively, the pretty lace on the Le Bourget Essential 15 Stockings is perfect if you are planning a hot date.

They are one of the one of the oldest style statements on the planet but Beyonce has made them look super modern.  There is a stocking and suspender style for every girl so experiment and have some fun with one of the world’s most traditional and modern fashion trends.

The New Festival Fashion Tips: Your ultimate go-to guide

We’ve already brought you some of the hottest looks from this year’s Glasto, and now, with festival season already half way through, here is your definitive guide to the new festival fashion.  If you didn’t manage to get to Glastonbury or T in the Park this year, there are still loads to choose from, including the Big Chill and Bestival.  And even better, we’re here with the looks you need, whether you’re sitting in a muddy field or watching the coverage at home.

1. Do steal Beyonce’s style from that Glasto set.  Team gold sequins with black basics (may we suggest a dress rather than just pants if you’re planning on wearing it to the pub), and finish with nude fishnet tights.

2. Do adapt celeb looks for everyday wear.  Poppy Delevigne may be able to pull off bright red skinny fit trousers, but let’s face it, most of us can’t.  For a more wearable alternative, try red tights with a dark denim dress, or under denim hotpants à la Alexa Chung.  For style leaders, try this season’s bottle green.

3. DO match your accessories.  Florals are always a summer staple, and this year it’s all about the headwear.  Match yours to floral Pamela Mann tights for double the fashion points, but toughen up with a black leather jacket or army boots to avoid looking too cutesy.

4. DON’T be scared to try something new.  Love her or loathe her, Taylor Momsen’s legs looked fabulous during her set at T in the Park.  Get the same effect with some on-trend suspender tights, or make like Jessie J in some monochrome patterns.  Team with preppy basics for a great day-to-night look.

5. DO go for glam ankle socks if it’s too hot for tights.  Choose from a rainbow of colours and pair with shorts skirts and sandals: they’re so cheap, why not choose a few different colours and use them to transform any outfit?

Glasto Envy

You’d think I’d be over it by now.  I have after all endured a lifetime of not going to Glastonbury.

This is not for want of trying I can assure you.

There are signs that my chronic Glastonbury envy is getting easier to deal with each passing year however.  This time it has taken only a week for it to subside enough for me to do a quick round up of the fashion treats on offer at the UK’s most revered festival.

I’ve said before that tights are a festival essential.  Festival pro Kate Moss has been spotted sporting a pair of black fishnet tights.  Fishnet made a strong showing at Glastonbury this year.  Ke$ha performed in a pair of wide net fishnets which gave real attitude to her ripped, off the shoulder t-shirt.  For a similar look try the Jonathan Aston Burlesque Midinet Tights with their larger net design  – give them a rock and roll edge by putting some extra holes in them like Ke$ha.  If you are really daring you could even try this look with fishnet hold ups. Rather than pulling them up to the mid thigh as you normally would, choose a smaller size and wear them lower down the leg – more like over the knee socks.  With their plain tops and wide net the Jonathan Aston Midinet Hold Ups are perfect for this look.

Even Beyonce got in on the fishnet craze, performing her electrifying set on the Sunday night in a pair of nude coloured fishnets.   If you are thinking of emulating Beyonce not only do we wish you all the luck in the world – we’d also recommend you do so using Levante Fishnet Tights which come in a natural and mocca as well as the standard black.

It is no surprise that sock and welly combos we were popular with those that had to brave the mud with the rest of the crowds.  Pixie Geldof went for a little flash of colour under her trusty wellies like hundreds of hardy festival goers.  Knee high socks in bright colours like Trasparenze’s Cinzia Knee High Socks work well for this look as do over the knee socks like the Pamela Mann Ribbed over the Knee Socks.

For me though, outfit of the weekend goes to Alexa Chung.  Once the rain eased off a little, she slipped into an impossibly white sun dress teamed with cute black jodhpur boots and grey socks.  Now it is easy enough to lay my hands on a white cotton dress and those Jonathan Aston Slouch Socks in just the right shade of grey.  Would anyone care to donate a Chanel handbag to complete the look?

But then I’m sure the press couldn’t care less if us mere mortals over indulged this Christmas! I digress, if the likes of Beyonce and Gwenyth Palthrow addicted to the wonders of Spanx, the great, anti – lumps and bumps miracle worker, then I can’t help but feel we ought to try them too! Yes Spanx, the ultimate body shaper that allows us to squeeze into that special body con dress, which we love because it’s uber tight and sexy, yet hate because it’s err… uber tight and sexy! But Ladies, Spanx really does work, its been tried, tested and proven. Why else would so many celebrities swear by it? And with a range that caters to our every unflattering body conscious need, it’s a definite must have for the Christmas Party season.
