Thick Black Opaques: A Style Battle!

Emma Willis looking characteristically fab! Generally as far as winters go, this one hasn’t been too bad. Sure, we’ve rarely been able to leave the house without at least a few layers, but we’ve admittedly done pretty well. That is, until this week of course! Thousands of us across the country have been hit with a dreaded cold snap, bringing with it a blanket of snow and forcing hundreds of schools to shut down for the day. While celebrities usually have a knack of being able to wear sheer tights or bare legs all year round, it seems that the current cold weather has proved too much for two of MyTights style favourites. Both Fearne Cotton and Emma Willis this week opted to wrap up warm, stepping out in a pair of thick black opaque tights, albeit channelling rather different looks. But the question that’s on all of our lips; who wore it best?Fearne Cotton at BBC Radio 1 Studios, London, Britain - 23 Jan 2015

Celebrity Big Brother presenter and all round golden girl Emma Willis braved this week’s live eviction in a stunning floral PVC jacket, high neck burgundy mini and chic suede heels, finishing off her quirky look with a pair of thick black opaques. While we don’t think Emma’s jacket is wearable for us normal folk, we can’t help but admire her gorgeous ensemble, and we particularly loved her choice of burgundy dress, which nailed the trend for block colours perfectly. Opting for a pair of black heels also gave her bottom half a uniformed appearance, showing off her slim legs brilliantly. We salute you Emma! Moving on now to Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton, who wore her black opaques as part of a more relaxed daytime look. Protecting herself from the elements in a glamorous leopard print coat, the TV personality wore a somewhat unusual (although stylish) mix of a pastel knitted jumper and matching dress in a floaty chiffon fabric. Finishing around the mid-calf, her dress allowed for a hint of her thick black opaques to shine though. Typical of Fearnes style, her outfit was certainly original, but we can’t help think it had a little too much going on to pip Emma to the post.

This round goes to the lovely Mrs Willis!

New Year Fash-olutions: Our top ten

It’s that time of year again. New Year, new you! 2015 is going to be different. This year, you’re going to banish the carbs, work up a sweat at the gym 5 times a week and quit the booze, right?

We envy you if you manage to stick to your January promises, but let’s be honest, it’s not always easy. So why not save yourself the guilt come early February and make some New Year resolutions that you can stick to? In our eyes, the perfect way to bring in 2015 in style is to revamp your hosiery collection. With this in mind, the MyTights team have been busily compiling a selection of our own fash-olutions (get it?)

Here are our top ten…

1) Don’t stress, invest: We’ve all got that token pair of tights in our drawer that we bought on a whim – an impulse buy that you convinced yourself you’d wear once a week, but in reality, have never been taken out of the packet. So this year, spend some time in creating a capsule collection of quality basics that you will actually wear – we’re talking black opaques and luxury sheers!

2) Organisation is key: nobody wants to be rummaging through their bedside table at 6am, desperately trying to find THAT pair of tights that will finish off your outfit perfectly. So take action; throw out anything you haven’t worn in the last year and organise your fashion tights with the brilliant Stoxbox. A neat and tidy hosiery drawer awaits…

3) Be braver: fashion is there to be experimented with, so instead of wishing you could pull off a pair of suspender tights that you’ve seen in a celebrity magazine, go out and try it! You never know, you might find a new hosiery BFF. Ankle socks are a great place to start!

4) Discover your perfect skintone shade: it may take a little bit of trial and error to find exactly what you’re after, but finding your perfect skin tone shade is a must. Not only will it save you time and money, it’ll give you no end of confidence and allow you to pull off a bare leg look with panache! Need a little help? Check out our in-depth skintone guide.

5) Turn your back on black: colour, colour, colour! Black opaques are a necessary component of every staple collection, but it’s entirely possible to achieve a similarly chic and classic look with a pair of coloured tights. We’re not saying opt for bright yellow straight away, but why not try out muted tones like navy, burgundy and dark grey?

6) Find the ideal shapewear for problem areas: shapewear can be daunting at first – what will work for you? Is it worth the money? The MyTights shapewear guide is there to help, offering you all the advice you need to find something suitable for your problem zones. The hassle-free way to a streamlined silhouette!

7) Throw out your odd socks: most of us have done it at some point, haven’t we? Whether intentional or not, odd socks are a fashion faux pas. Start off the year with a clean slate – grab a bin bag, throw your rejects away and replace them with our fabulous range of quality socks. Something for every style!

8) Know the key trends: a capsule collection is a great idea, but it’s always nice to a mix it up a bit with a patterned pair of fashion tights! To ensure your legwear is current and on-trend, take it upon yourself to follow the catwalks at London Fashion Week to find the most up to date styles. We’ll no doubt be blogging about it as it happens, too, so watch this space!

9) Suffer no more: if you spend a long time on your feet at work, it’s not unusual for your legs to feel tired and jaded come the end of the day. In 2015, tell yourself that enough is enough – give your pins the attention they deserve with a pair of our excellent support tights. No longer limited to frumpy and unflattering tights, our range of support tights are sourced from an array of industry leading brands… so it’s entirely possible to channel a chic legwear look AND have a spring in your step in the process.

10) Put yourself first!: Last but not least…treat yourself. Feeling confident is hugely important, and a brilliant way to boost your mood in the miserable winter months. After all, if you look great, you feel great. So this year, if you’ve spotted a pair of tights that you can’t stop thinking about, don’t worry about the price…splash out and put yourself first!

Happy New Year!

5 Styles For Spring

wolford-eyla-stay-upsIt?s never too early to embrace the SS14 trends, so here are our tips for which tights will go best with the upcoming styles.

Dark Florals
Blooms are booming next season, and this time think sophisticated big floral prints on a dark background. Team a floral dress with black opaques for a classic and flattering look. These stunning Ultra Fit 80D High Waisted Shaper Tights by Calvin Klein render that expensive January gym membership unnecessary. Providing the best of both world, these gorgeous opaques give you an enviable silhouette and still feel comfortable thanks to the soft microfiber yarn.

Sport Luxe
Wolford can do no wrong in our eyes, consistently giving classic staples a fresh and elegant update. This time they’ve worked their magic on their Eyla stay ups, adding a sexy scarlet trim to the tops. The high quality yarn and reinforced toes ensures that these sheers will outlast this glam trend. Match these hold ups in Sahara/Red with a bomber jacket or a slogan sweatshirt and a white mini skirt or shorts.

Many designers have been looking to the art world for inspiration this season. If you want to attain this cultured look why not pair a LBD with these Pamela Mann Deco Net Tights. Featuring a range of intricate patterns including diagonal lines, semi circles and diamonds, this hosiery could hush even the harshest art critic.

Pleats are popular again. Style your on-trend kilt with classic white wool for a look that screams highland chic, and cream woolen tights just don?t come classier than Trasparenze Gennifer Merino Wool Tights. These thick opaque tights aren?t just fashionable but functional thanks to the insulating wool content. Even if the weather doesn?t warm up until September 2014, your pins will stay snug and pampered.

Pink Blush
Pastel pink is one of the hot shades for next season. Embracing this look couldn’t be easier with Jonathan Aston?s 40D Opaque Tights, available in the perfect shade of Candy Pink. If this cotton candy colour is too sickly sweet for you then don?t worry because red and electric blue are also tipped to be big. Yes, you guessed it, Jonathan Aston has terrific tights in these shades too.

Party Tights for the party season!

LBD? Tick. Vertiginous heels? Tick. Tights?…

As the party season fast approaches, it?s now the time to get that hosiery drawer in order. If you?ve any chance of keeping up with that social calendar, then outfit planning in advance is a must! No longer the afterthought, tights (and socks for those who can survive arctic temperatures) are an inexpensive and fashion forward way to add life to that weary LBD or unloved skirt. Ranging from the blingtastic to subtle shimmer, there?s a pair to complement every ensemble.

Disco DivaLurex Highball Tights

To make sure you dazzle on the dance floor, I recommend a hefty dose of glitter. Far easier to style than you may think, glitzy tights will instantly add fun to that understated outfit, and will give those everyday courts a mini-makeover. From Pamela Mann, the Lurex Highball Tights will do just that, with the extra special opaques letting you shimmer your way through the night. With a thick 80 denier appearance, the tights??positively shimmer,?courtesy of the lurex fabric used. Free from any brief, the all over glitter remains uninterrupted, leaving you free to wear any hemline that takes your fancy (ideal for those roller discos!).? If you want to show off your festive pedicure, then the footless version of these tights is a must with the Lurex Highball Footless Tights reaching ankle length.

Subtle Shimmer

If head to toe glitter isn?t your cup of tea, then why not take things down a notch with some subtle shimmer? A favourite for work parties and dinner dates, the demure look will take you from the office to the bar without the need to change in between. And given that that shimmer & shine are must have ingredients for the party season ahead, I couldn?t recommend the Starlight Tights more. From the Jonathan Aston Premium range, the 20 denier sheers have been made with a multi-coloured glitter yarn that shimmers and glitters when catching the lights. A personal favourite of mine and another addition to the Jonathan Aston range, the Starburst Tights are equally as elegant. From the knee outwards, small circular and flat discs scatter the legs of the tights, glimmering as though actual stars are decorating your tights. These look great when worn underneath a shift dress and heels, with metallic accessories providing even more glamour.

If you?re not ready to let go of your trusty black opaques, then the Lurex Spot Opaque Tights from Charnos are perfect for making the transition. Transforming the much loved polka dot print, small metallic spots appear throughout ? choose from gold or silver, both on a black opaque background. ?To dress up, step into killer heels, teaming your opaques with a brushed silk dress and an oversized glitter clutch for even more shimmer.

Queen of Quirky

For the occasions when understated just won?t suffice, may I point you in the direction of Henry Holland. Noted for his tongue in cheek style, the Alphabet Silver Tights from his Pretty Polly collaboration are the easy way to add designer cool to your outfit. The sheer 20 denier tights are decorated with sparkly silver letters that spell ?HOUSE? on one leg and ?HOLLAND? on the other. A true conversation starter if ever I had seen one, I love teaming mine with a festive red dress and heels.

The collaboration fun doesn?t stop there either, as Pretty Polly have teamed forces with designer of the moment, Joanne Hynes. Notorious for her playful use of colour and cut out shapes, the Optical Illusion Tights do not disappoint. The 60 denier opaques are decorated with a foxy glitter backseam whilst the top half of your tights is transformed with shimmering cut outs and large helping of postbox red. Coupled with a velvety soft feel and flat seams, it?s easy to see why no party outfit is complete without them!

Lovely & LuxuriousWolford Collier Tights

Given the amount of time we will spend on the dance floor, treating legs to a little luxury is imperative. Thankfully, Wolford agrees with this, and have made it easy to feel good and look great at the same time. Embracing the embellished trend in time for the festive season, the Collier Tights from the Austrian brand are a godsend. Made from a soft & smooth 60 denier, the tights boast an embellishment mock suspender design with a beautiful backseam to boot. Small silver diamante and larger silver flat discs have been carefully glued and arranged in a hanging chandelier design, with a singular row of small diamantes running down the back of your legs. If that doesn?t say luxury, I don?t know what does!

For true elegance this season, treat hosiery drawers to the Hoara Tights from Oroblu?. Delivering a 40 denier appearance, your lacy tights have been packed full of decorative delights. The overall look is a busy but beautiful one, with a mock fishnet bringing a contemporary sense to the traditional floral motifs. I love to style mine with a chic wrap dress and boots, keeping accessories to a minimum to let the tights steal the show.

Three cheers for the party season!

Until next time…

P.S Ladies, don?t forget to stock up on your emergency black opaques for when the party catches you by surprise!

Black Opaques: Always Trendy

gemma-arterton-1384947430And the English actress Gemma Arterton is our proof! Just a few days ago Arterton attended the Isabella Blow: Fashion Galore! exhibit opening in a classic ensemble with a sparkly twist. She paired her thick black opaques with a blazer, grey dress, and Mary Janes – all embellished with sequins and shiny stones. This outfit is professional without being too serious and trendy without being flashy – a perfectly sophisticated look!

Gemma had the right idea choosing some thick opaques, as it really is starting to get chilly out! You shouldn’t have to put away your skirts and dresses, however, if you’ve got a fantastic product like the Pretty Polly Fleecy Tights in your hosiery drawer. These fit just like any other pair of tights but they’re made of a thick 200 denier fabric and have a fleece lining to keep you warm and comfortable. I can vouch for this as I’m wearing them right now under some burgundy shorts!

If you’ve got a big event like Gemma Arterton and you really need to look your best, then look no further than the Calvin Klein Ultra Fit 80D Shaper Tights. This special pair comes with light shaping support to make sure you look flawless in even the tightest outfit.

Both tights are great for an outfit like Gemma’s, but are so versatile that you can easily cut down on the sequins for a more serious event, or pump up the volume with a colorful dress for a fun night out. All in all, thick opaques are an absolute must-have when the temperatures drop! Head over to and check them out!

What MyTights Wore – 8th November

With Halloween and Bonfire Night out the way, it means only one thing. Christmas is round the corner! But before we starting experimenting with glitter and sparkle, we’re still championing our favourite autumnal styles here at MyTights HQ. Just take a look for yourself…

The unsung heroes of our hosiery drawer: black opaque tights. Instantly winter-proofing our summer skirts and dresses, Hannah teams her black Jonathan Aston 40D Opaque Tights with polka dots & pumps.

The easiest way to add character to your office outfit, coloured tights are a must. To keep on trend, opt for a teal like Nix or stick with burgundy & forest greens.

Pretty and super sweet, the Sheer Hearts Tights from Pamela Mann are great for adding a touch of romance to your look. Whilst Suzanne has worn hers to the office, we think these will look great when styled with a LBD and heels.

Boots + patterned tights = happy and stylish legs. Nix shows us that a little bit of pattern goes as long way in her Charnos Diamond Stripe Tights.?

Kate loves opaques too!

Entrepreneur, yummy mummy and self confessed Queen of Cool, there are endless reasons why Kate Moss will forever remain our favourite model. Ever since the 5’7 beauty emerged on the scene in the late 90s, the British public (well, a large amount of them anyway), have flocked to replicate her chic & cutting edge ensembles.

Moss and her Opaques!

Just shy of 40, the mum of one showed us that she’s still got it during fashion week, debuting an impressive array of outfits. But when it came to after hour events, Moss flaunted a rather classic style of hosiery – her trusty black opaques.

No doubt her endless legs helped contribute to the show stopping looks but thanks to a little help from her choice of leg wear, Kate Moss grabbed headlines on more than one occasion. From her fancy dress appearance at the anOther magazine party (and no, there wasn’t an ill flattering costume in sight) to a Longchamps launch party, the supermodel relied on her black opaques to deliver a bold leg silhouette and elegant coverage. And here at MyTights HQ, we want to join in.

Luxurious and lovely, the Wolford Neon 40 Tights are fast becoming an office favourite, delivering a super soft feel and glossy finish. Leaving legs feeling pampered and looking polished, these are ideal for both work & play, including any fancy dress parties…

For a purse friendly alternative that still feels just as gorgeous, treat legs to the 80D Silk Finish Tights from Pretty Polly. Having recently revamped their opaques range, the British superbrand have made sure that regardless of budget or occasion, you’ll still be able to discover your perfect pair. Just the pair for those wanting a great quality pair of tights that they can wear every day, the 80 denier opaques have a gorgeously smooth finish, along with a silky sheen that Moss herself appears to prefer.

And for those always on the go, take solace in the fact that some rather clever designers have managed to work ladder resistant technology into a pair of fabulous 80 denier opaques. From Andrea Bucci, the Lycra Fusion fibre Opaque tights come prepared to deal with hectic schedules and clumsiness. By using bi-component technology, ?the outer layers of the fibre are allowed to fuse together, leaving the fabric super strong. In turn, you can be sure that a snag will never transform into anything more. Phew!!

So now we have our perfect pair of black opaques, we?re just waiting on those party invites to come through. Kate, we hope you?re reading!

Moulin Rouge – Spectacular, Spectacular!

Spectacular, spectacular! I adore it when exciting new ranges arrive here at MyTights HQ, and the latest ?is no exception. Inspired by the glamour and elegance of the original Moulin Rouge, hosiery experts Pamela Mann have joined force with the dance hall, creating a fabulous range of gorgeous new tights. From backseams to polka dots and even Swarovski crystals, it?s safe to say that this is the range your hosiery drawer has been waiting for.

Moulin Rouge

Created in Italy and modelled by actual dancers (hence the enviable leg silhouette in all images), these are the perfect marriage of great quality and classic designs. Staying true to the decadent and elaborate reputation of the Parisian dance hall, each addition to the collection has been designed to deliver a touch of showgirl glamour whilst remaining demure enough for everyday wear. With ten designs and ten opportunities to add a little flirty fun to ensembles, too much choice will quickly become your only problem on a Monday morning!

Seams, spots or sparkles? Whichever your preference, you?ll swiftly discover your favourites amongst the collection, with more than one option to appease your hosiery drawer. If you?re an advocate of the retro revival, then the High Heels Tights from Moulin Rouge will tick all boxes. Finished with a Cuban heel that peeks over the tops of your shoes and a delicate backseam that elongates legs, these will look perfect paired with a tea dress and on trend courts. What?s more, with five shades to opt for, including a flashy metallic and a demure nude backseam, we?ve given you a reason to reinvent your wardrobe before the new season (read: permission for a shopping spree). For those seeking something a little different but who refuse to surrender seam intentions, the Heart Seam Tights are ideal. Doing exactly what they say on the tin, pretty hearts travel down the back of your legs, delivering plenty of charm as they do. And quirky brides-to-be should take note! Whilst these are available in a versatile black, these also come in a pearly white, covering that ?something new? on your list.

Moulin Rouge

legit work at home jobs

However, my personal highlight of the collection has to be the vast amount of spots & dots on offer. From miniature plumetis (a fine spot design named after a style of French stitching)? to the bolder and bigger dots decorating the Palloni Tights, it becomes apparent that the collection has been given a hefty dose of the trend du jour. For a flattering and fresher alternative to your everyday sheers, the Plumetis Dot Tights in Navy are highly wearable, going well underneath shift dresses, circle skirts and those city shorts. Hotly tipped to become the next big shade, navy is a softer take on the uniform black that seems to dominate work spaces, leaving you with on trend pins and one step ahead of the fash pack.

For those who truly believe that diamonds are a girl?s best friend, may I point you in the direction of opaques complete with Swarovski embellishment. Yes, that?s right, no longer content with furnishing the inside of your jewellery box, the glittering household name has now turned to our tights. Most certainly inspired by the glitz & glam that?s to be found inside the Moulin Rouge, you?ll find your black opaques decorated with tributes to the dance hall.? With either a miniature windmill (yes, a windmill!) or the Moulin Rouge name itself to opt from, the Swarovski Embellished Tights are one way to secure your place in the leg limelight. Carefully hand glued on with painstaking precision, the crystal detail will complement that evening dress, or jazz up that tired pencil skirt. Simply add heels and a ruby red lip to complete the look, clocking up that ?je ne sais quoi? in the process.

So whether you?re searching for a little oh la la or the perfect pair of tights to kick start your hosiery collection for the season, I can guarantee you?ll find your answer in the Moulin Rouge collection. The fight for first dibs at MyTights HQ begins now…

?Until next time!
