Coachella Looks: Sheer + Geometrics a la Kylie Jenner!

Kylie Jenner with Tyga and Khloe Kardashian

Kylie Jenner with Tyga and Khloe Kardashian

Fashionista, socialite, and famous for her perfect pouty lips, Kylie Jenner has done it again with her recent Coachella outfit. In case you’re not familiar, Coachella is the go-to festival for the style and music elite, full of eye-catching outfits and the obligatory flower crowns.  Still just a mere 17-years old, Kylie Jenner showed up to the festival with her sister Khloe and rumoured boyfriend Tyga in an outfit that was far from understated. Grabbing all of the media attention, here sheer and figure-hugging leotard was layered over a black bra and high-waisted knickers. Paired with stylish black lace-up gladiator heels to complete the look, the leotard boasted a gorgeous geometric pattern, as well as seams which emphasized her curvy figure to a tee.

While wearing a full sheer body suit might be out of the question for an everyday trip to the shops, nailing the trend for geometrics and seams couldn’t be easier. Here’s how to pull off a bold style statement a la Kylie!

Sensational seams

Jonathan Aston Woollies Leggings

In the 1960s, nylons worn by women were knitted flat then sewn together to create a long seam running up the back of the leg. Now, these tights are knitted in a circle, thus eliminating the need of a long seam. But fret not if you’re a fan, this classic vintage look is enjoying a fashion resurgence of late, so you can all try out the trend for yourself. Try the Wolford Flavia Tights that feature a sheer 15 denier look with a slender zig-zag backseam. These tights will create a subtle sexy finish to your outfit whether you’re wearing a LBD or a trendy dress. For a more classic backseam, try the Moulin Rouge High Heels Tights for with their elegant slender seam and tapered Cuban heel.

Trend-alert: Geometry isn’t for class anymore

Geometric lines and patterns are a huge trend right now for spring and summer. Fishnets, stripes, and bold prints are all the rage for fashion tights to construct a confident and sexy OOTD. If you want to emulate Kylie’s fashionable Coachella look, take a look at the Wolford Stella Tights and Jonathan Aston Woollies Leggings, or how about the Wolford Juliette Tights? With a geometric design alternating from sheer to opaque, these styles are guaranteed to turn heads.

Scarlett in sheers!

Scarlett in sheers!

Sartorially speaking, Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson barely puts a foot wrong. Whether showcasing her envious figure on the red carpet or strolling through Tinseltown, she just has a knack of always getting it right. So we were less than surprised this week when she was pictured arriving at the Jimmy Kimmel Studios in Hollywood looking suitably glam. Can you believe she gave birth just SIX months ago?! Wearing a figure hugging sleeveless top with a plaid skirt with leather waistband, the star completed her flattering look in a pair of gorgeous sheer tights. Okay, so Scarlett herself might be in America, but with the glorious weather we’ve been enjoying of late, Scarlett’s got us thinking. Laura’s Choice – Black Sheer Tights

Wearing thin tights in the winter might seem like ‘sheer’ lunacy, but during the previous season the sales of sheer tights (and luxury sheers in particular) rocketed, spurred on no doubt by the current trend for black sheer tights.  Seen on everyone who’s anyone, from Miranda Kerr to Alexa Chung, I’ve decided it was high time I bring you my pick of the best sheer black tights MyTights.com has to offer…

Individual5-Black

Ultra Sheer (5-9 denier)

Ultra sheer tights are the thinnest tights that are available, giving you just a touch of coverage and making them ideal for warmer weather. With a slight sheen finish, the Trasparenze Capri Tights will provide your lovely legs with a flawless complexion whilst allowing them to stay cool and fresh thanks to their low denier. These are also a great option for those on a budget, thanks to the purse friendly price – but if you’re after a more luxurious option, the Wolford Individual 5 Tights are perfect for getting a hosiery drawer to rival Ms. Middleton’s.  Renowned for their quality, including double-covered elastane in every row for increased durability as well as a perfect fit, these are quite simply incredibly strong for a 5 denier tight – bravo Wolford!

Sheer (10-20 denier)

If you are looking for classic black sheer tights then 10-20 denier tights are perfect for you. The Pretty Polly Nylons Tights is a beloved product and strong seller coming from the brand with a 95 year history.  Made in 10 denier, these sheer tights are marvellous for showing off those legs at special events thanks to their gorgeous shiny finish and variety of different shades. A long time favourite of our customers, it doesn’t get more classic than the 10 denier Falke Fond de Poudre Tights.  One of the original products from the luxury brand, these sensational sheers combine unexpected durability with an exceptionally flawless “powdered” finish that will make your legs look – and feel – simply divine.

Semi-Opaque (30 denier)

Semi-opaque 30 denier tights are fantastic for those tricky mid-season temperatures, when legs require a bit of coverage but not too much, since this midweight denier givs you a glimpse of leg while banishing blemishes. One of my favourites are the utterly wonderful Oroblu Sensuel 30 Tights, which have a slight sheen finish and glide onto your leg effortlessly. If smoothing your silhouette is what you desire, then the Calvin Klein Ultra Fit 30D High Waisted Tights are superb since along with a 30 denier and matte finish, these semi-opaque tights also provide light control with an extended waist for even more shaping magic (and a feminine V Line brief). Last but certainly not least, the Levante Relax Medium Support Tights provide the clever combination of light control and medium support in a 30 denier.

Very Shiny vs. Matte Finish

I must say that I find glossy tights extremely glamorous and perfect for ensuring that you stand out from the crowd, and the ever popular Aristoc Ultra Shine Tights in 10 denier are perfect for nights out thanks to their sheer toe and shiny finish for high gloss glamour in an instant. If you’re looking for a thicker denier, perhaps for an all day wedding, I would certainly suggest the Levante Brillante Tights with their 20 denier appearance and comfort waistband you can dance the evening away in style and in comfort.   However a matte finish remains a favourite for some and I must admit that when at work I do prefer matte tights like the Falke Pure Matt 20 Tights in a sheer 20 denier, featuring an extremely soft feel as well as superior coverage. These luxurious sheer tights show yet again that Falke are experts at giving those legs a gorgeous look and feel.

mama-spanxFuller Figures

If you’re looking for sheers to accommodate your curves, then look no further, as MyTights stock a great range of plus size styles, too.  The aforementioned gorgeous Pretty Polly Nylons tights have a fuller figure version, the Pretty Polly Curves Nylons Tights, which fit up to a 60 inch waist providing you with superior levels of comfort and an enhanced fit.

Soon-to-be yummy mummies have not been forgotten, either –  the Trasparenze 20 Denier Maternity Tights have been designed especially for you, with their wide gentle waistband and stretchy material that expands to accommodate your growing bump. For a little more support from your pregnancy tights, then the Mama Spanx Maternity Tights in 20 denier boast a special support panel designed to go under the belly.

run-resist-tights_1

Ladder Resistant

As you can well imagine, if there is one thing that I just cannot stand it is ladders, so thankfully Charnos have come to the rescue with the 10 denier Charnos Run Resist Sheer T

ights. Their innovative yarn technology means that their stitches are bonded together, so that they’re protected from turning into bigger holes and runs. Hot on their heels, and boasting Lycra Fusion technology that keeps them safe from laddering, the Aristoc Ultimate 10D Matt Tights have a classic matte finish and are woven in a 10 denier, while their sheer toe sets these apart as being suitable for wearing with sandals or peep toes – so they’re brilliant for taking on holiday! Ultra fine in a 5 denier, the Levante Resistenza Tights’ special yarn is resistant to runs and these super sheers are available in a multitude of sizes especially for leggy ladies.

If you’re not quite sure what you’re after, take a look at our entire range of fabulous black sheer tights. Also do make sure to look at our What My Tights Wore blogs for more ideas of how to style those sheers!

Until next time…

Celebrity Favourites: Get the Look!

Hankering after a little star style this season?  Get the look, with our pick of celebrity favourites…

K-Middy’s Bare Leg Look Tights: Kate Middleton and the Great Sheer Tights Debate has become one of the most iconic hosiery looks of the last few years – ironic, since as the name suggests, you can’t even see them.  There are loads of bare leg look styles on the market that offer wonderful coverage and a flawless skin tone – it’s rumored Kate wears Wolford sheers, but we love the Falke Shelina Tights, which offer the perfect shade for every skintone.

Zooey Deschanel’s Opaque Tights: There’s no denying that Zooey is the official face of opaque tights – from New Girl set to red carpet event, she never seems to take hers off!  For those of you without the A List budget, there are the Pamela Mann 80 Denier Opaque

Tights – just the right thickness to keep out the chill without being too thick for elegant eveningwear, they come in a range of shades so you can match them to your accessories.

Gwyneth’s Wool Tights:  On her much-discussed lifestyle website Goop, the Hollywood actress includes the wonderfully warm Wolford Merino Tights in her top picks for avoid the icy polar vortex weather in the US.  We’re not surprised – they’re wonderfully warm and super luxe to boot!

Little Mix’s Suspender Tights: The Little Mix lovelies are hard at work making a name for themselves across the pond, and are (in our opinion) at least partially responsible for the resurgence of suspender tights in the last few months.  Get the look by donning a pair with a twist, like the super cute Pamela Mann Bunny Ear Overknee Tights or the popular Pamela Mann Paris Skyline Suspender Tights.

Rochelle’s Shapewear: The Saturdays lovely has made no secret of her love of shapewear, and Spanx in particular.  And with a figure like hers, why wouldn’t you want to get the look?!  If you’re expecting, opt for the Spanx Power Mama Shaper, just like Rochelle – or if you just want a little helping hand to get Rochelle’s amazing hourglass figure, the Spanx Higher Power Brief is just the ticket.

Miranda Kerr’s Sheer Tights: Sales of sheer tights have soared in recent months, with classic black sheers making a name for themselves for the first time since the 90s.  Model Miranda has been spotted out and about in hers on several occasions – get the look with a 20 denier sheer like the Falke Pure Matt 20 Tights, which have a classic matte finish and luxurious feel for a look just like Miranda’s.

The Financial Times Loves MyTights

vertical-sheer-stripe-tights

Smashing the myth that an LBD is always the safe option, the Financial Times recently conducted a photo shoot with their models sporting high fashion black dresses with a selection of tights from Pamela Mann.

Even if the Moschino Cheap and Chic silk/polyester dress at ?695 is slightly out of your reach (more chic than cheap we?re thinking), fortunately the tights included in the feature come at a more reasonable price. To copy this look you can get our Moulin Rouge Palloni Tights, their reverse-spot style turns the classic polka dot look on its head.

Made from 40/20 denier these tights will keep you warm when you venture outside ? I recommend teaming with a polka dot dress in black with white spots and black patent heels for a co-ordinated look. The reinforced toe means that even if your makeup needs a touch up, your legs won?t ? thanks to the added durability you can dance the night away without a care! Fancy making a statement in the office? Team these striking sheers with a pencil skirt and white blouse for a dramatic yet elegant ensemble.

The Chanel silk-organza dress featuring on trend appliqu? flowers was matched with our Pamela Mann Solid Sheer Stripe Tights ? the perfect blend of girly and dramatic. Getting the look is super easy – team these sheers with a black dress with a subtle floral print. The simplistic design is perfect for a high end fashion look, and again the reinforced toe means that even as the styles change your tights will last.

Do you wear patterned tights to spice up your LBD? Or do you prefer classic sheers?

Emma Stone Scores a Hat Trick in New York

Mary-Portas-sheer-shaperActress Emma Stone pulled off a commendable performance when she was snapped on the set of her upcoming movie, Birdman, nailing three trends at once.  Teaming a khaki canvas jacket with denim cut offs over battered looking black sheers (complete with hole and VERY visible ladder), the result was a grungy look a far cry from her usual pulled together, chic style. It

shouldn’t have worked, yet somehow it did.

Khaki and denim shorts are staples season after season – but black sheer tights are also back this season, with loads of celebs shunning their thicker opaques for the sexy style, including Sarah Jessica Parker and Miranda Kerr.  But unless you’re going to attempt the grungy look as modelled by Emma, we suggest you’re a bit more careful with your sheers to avoid runs and snags.

It’s a sad fact of life that with sheer hosiery comes the risk of ladders, but there ARE ways to prevent damage.  Most snags occur when you’re yanking your sheers up or taking them off at the end of the day, as this is when they’re pulled around the most.  Care for your sheers by wearing hosiery gloves when putting them on or taking them off, or at the very least make sure your nails are filed with no jagged edges.  Choosing a style with a boxer brief design is safer than a sheer to waist, as there is reinforcement around the part you pull up or down.

Alternatively you could opt for ladder resist tights.  Although they don’t guarantee you won’t end up with a snag, they are generally more durable than your average sheer and any holes you do get won’t turn into an unsightly ladder, thanks to the clever yarn technology used.  No more embarrassing runs in your tights, and no more clear nail varnish stowed in your handbag in case of emergencies!

When washing your hosiery, ladder resist or not, make sure you use a hosiery bag which will protect your sheers from damage, and wash on a cool wash.  Don’t dry on radiators or in the tumble drier, as the heart will damage the elastane fibres in the hosiery.

We can’t promise your beloved sheers will last forever, but if you follow these steps they’ll be around for a lot longer, seeing you through anything your day has to throw at you… Emma Stone, take note!
