That’s what we call a shimmering success, Miley!

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus

Leaving her wrecking ball at home for the day, Miley Cyrus this week stepped out in a pair of tights that more than appealed to our inner magpie. While the 22 year old star usually finds herself at the top of the ‘worst dressed list’, she’s clearly been taking style advice from somewhere, mastering the trend for metallic with her gold sparkly tights. Okay, so we’re not so keen on the rest of her outfit. In fact we’d go as far as saying we hate it, but with legwear like that, who cares?! Perfect for parties and as seen on the likes of Alexa Chung, sparkly tights are enjoying a fashion moment of late, and in typical MyTights fashion, there’s no reason why anyone need miss out.

Pamela Mann Lurex Highball Footless Tights

Pamela Mann Lurex Highball Footless Tights

For a copycat look (minus that garish jacket, we hope), opt for the Pamela Mann Lurex Highball Footless Tights. Available in silver as well as gorgeous gold, these footless fancies were once spotted on the legs of Fearne Cotton herself, which comes as no surprise to us. Catching the light and a must have for the party season, you can also wear peep toe heels should you wish!

Iff something a little less dramatic is your preference, take a look at the Trasparenze Deejay Tights, covered in subtle metallic flecks. Admittedly not as eye catching as Miley’s, these semi opaque tights are understated enough to be worn in the day as well as the night. Or if you want to combine your adoration for all things polkadot with sparkle, the Pamela Mann Sparkly Gold Spot Tights are a must, covered in embellished spots that cover the entire leg. Who knew a glamorous look could cost under a tenner?

It’s not only tights that have been given the embellished treatment either. For a pair of razzle dazzle socks, we love the Jonathan Aston Perfect Pellerine Socks, which have a lurex thread running throughout to gently catch the light as you strut your stuff.

Miley, you’re learning! Check out our entire range of sparkle and high shine hosiery before you leave.

Alexa Chung Grabbing The Leg Limelight Yet Again!

Another day, another fabulous outfit from model and all-round socialite Alexa Chung. It seems that rarely a month goes by without the 31 year old featuring in our blog in some way or another, which has lead us to the extremely important executive decision. It’s official; Alexa Chung has the best dressed legs in the business! You heard it here first people.

Alexa Chung

Stepping out with fellow fashionista Daisy Lowe at a high-end jeans launch, this week saw Alexa wearing a fashion-forward denim dress, finishing off her quirky look with a pair of heeled boots, and the pièce de résistance (in our eyes at least), a pair of sheer embellished tights. While we may be slightly biased, being a hosiery company and all, we can’t take our eyes off Alexa’s gorgeous legwear. It really is amazing how a single pair of tights can make an otherwise fairly casual ensemble look THAT glamorous. And good news if you’re a fan; while her dress may not be a viable option to us normal folk, you too can channel an ‘Alexa-esque’ look with the brilliant range of glitter and high shine tights on offer at MyTights!

Trasparenze Vlinder Tights

Trasparenze Vlinder Tights

For a style replica, you shouldn’t look past the Vlinder Tights from Italian brand Trasparenze. Albeit slightly more subtle than Alexa’s herself, these sheer tights feature an all over glittery fleck, catching the light as you walk and giving you a truly glamorous look. A denim dress may not be in your repertoire, but they’ll look equally as chic with a classic cocktail dress and heeled ankle boots.

Moulin Rouge Metallic Seam Tights

Moulin Rouge Metallic Seam Tights

Another brilliant option are the Charnos Lurex Spot Opaque Tights. This time set against a 40 denier leg for a bit of added coverage, these matte tights have an array of symmetrically placed glittery dots for true understated glamour. Ideal for a night on the town or equally for a dinner date, these are an excellent place to start if you’re a beginner to all this high shine stuff.

If hold ups are more your thing, you too can channel a sparkly legwear look with the Charnos 75 Ava Hold Ups. A play on the popular backseam trend, these 20 denier hold ups have a unique embellished seam made up of individual floral motifs and finished off with 8cm lace tops. Or for a more traditional backseam, opt for the Moulin Rouge Metallic Seam Tights, with their super slender and sultry backseam and black sheer leg. Available with both a gold and silver seam to complement your shoes and jewellery!

See you next week, Alexa!

Spring/Summer 2012: Everything you need to know about the Top Trends this season…

MyTights.com was lucky enough to attend an event last week where we heard a talk from Jessica Markwood, of fashion website osoyou.com, on the key trends for SS12.  We’ve pulled together a round-up of the key trends this season and how to wear them…

PRINTS: AS SEEN AT D&G

This spring it’s not just about the trend for florals that comes round each year (although hang on to your floral accessories to team with pastel basics).  But there are new, bolder prints around, such as abstract graphics and scarf print, as well as quirky tropical prints.

1920S: AS SEEN AT MARCHESA

Hurah!  It’s time to dig out your drop waist dresses again, because the 1920s is back for another season.  For the ultra-hip, you might want to try the pajama look for a new take on the 1920s trend.  Or if you’re not quite there, 1920s staples like embellishment, fringing and super-luxe fabrics like chiffon and silk in neutral colours like pale gold and dusty pink will do the trick nicely, too.

SPORTS LUXE: AS SEEN AT ALEXANDER WANG

This trend can be quite tricky to pull off if you don’t really know what you’re doing, but once you get the idea it’s really easy.  Just think clean lines and lots of white with flashes of neon and sports fabrics, but don’t go overboard.  For example, perk up a beautifully cut white linen shift with Emilio Cavallini’s Neon Seamed Sheers – and get some high we

dge trainers to make the look work for day and night.

TRIBAL: AS SEEN AT MISSONI

Tribal comes back every summer and so it’s a great trend to invest in, rather than going for cheap basics.  Tribal inspired prints look great when layered with white cotton and tan leather – and old season maxi dresses/skirts, waistcoats and peasant blouses can all be dug out for another round in the fashion ring.

UNDERWATER: AS SEEN AT CHANEL

This surreal trend is perhaps the most exciting this season, partly thanks to Karl Lagerfeld’s amazing sea-scape at the Chanel SS 12 show.  With this trend, you can (finally!) rock sequins for daytime – blue and silver work best – and team them with pale pastel colours in sheer, chiffony fabrics.  And anything with pearls goes – as demonstrated by the Chanel models’ pearl belts, necklaces and hairpins.  Romantic spring styling at its best!

Get the Look: The Bebaroque Tigerlily 80 Denier Tights are sparkly and perfect in purple for creating an underwater vibe, or to modernise the pearl trend take a look at the Henry Holland Pearly Suspender Tights.  Failing that, anything in blue or silvery grey will complete your look to perfection!

AND COMING UP FOR AW 12…

How to… wear WOW Tights

Wondering how to wear statement tights without looking silly? Or bored of wearing trousers all the time now the weather has (finally) turned wintery? MyTights.com were featured in a handy how-to guide in the press this week, so we thought we’d share their top 5 ways to work statement tights…

1) Colour blocking
With the 60s revival still going strong, colour blocking is going to be around for a while longer yet, and what easier way than to buy a simple pair of coloured tights? A simple, cheap and cheerful addition to your wardrobe, they start from a teeny tiny £4.10, so you really can afford to match them to everything in your wardrobe!

2) Embellished
Spots are hot at the moment, but try a twist on the trend with the Charnos 75 Brigit

te Tights (the actual tights in the feature, supplied by MyTights.com) which feature glittering Swarovski crystals up the back of the leg for a sparkling addition to a glamourous black dress.

3) Texture
Different textures can work really well as long as you don’t go OTT. Try leg lengthening ribbed tights with cotton skirts or silky shirts.

4) Stars
The stars trend last year was begun by designers like Christopher Kane, and planetary movement have dictated they’re set to last well in to 2010. Snap up a pair of the Henry Holland Superstar Tights, available with either classic black or spangly multi-coloured stars.

5) Elaborate Girly
Lace tights and girly designs like bows and floral motifs are the order of the day. Use them to glam up your party frock, or add a sweet edge to a tough biker look.

Gok Wan Recommends Pretty Polly

Our favourite Super Stylist Gok Wan shows you how to get three glam looks from one simple vest dress in this week’s Reveal Magazine. And the self styled “Auntie Gok” told the readers what we’ve always known – if in doubt, plump for statement tights! Styling the dress with a dramatic feather overlay (a length of feather trim stitched onto the neckline of the dress) he added the gorgeously twinkly Pretty Polly Embellished Tights, supplied by MyTights.com, and finished the theatrical black ensemble with black platforms, Hollywood scarlet lips and piled up hair.

Embellished Tights are a really quick and easy way to add a touch of instant glamou

r to any old dresses – or try them for the office with cocktail shorts and floaty blouses. Gok chose this black version for a striking Black Swan-esque look, but why not try a pair of studded tights for a rock chick take on the look, or a shimmering lurex pair for added sparkle?

Or for a different way to wear statement tights, try a print.  Go for a more subtle black opaque on sheer design for work, but for the weekends and nights out you can afford to be much more daring.  Take a look at the range of Celeste Stein tights, which all feature fun prints on 40 denier opaque hosiery (so you won't get too cold, either!).  Some of our favourite designs are even in our amazing sale!

Christmas might be beginning to seem so long ago, but don’t let that stop you putting something luxuriously fun into your wardrobe for the new year.
