Q&A Session with Hosiery For Men!

We caught up with popular male hosiery blog ‘Hosiery For Men’ to get his thoughts on the world of male hosiery!

Why did you start wearing tights?

I first wore tights when I was asked to wear them for a school Shakespeare production when I was 14. I recall that they were opaque and dark green. I was amazed at how comfortable they were and unlike any clothing that I had worn previously.

I did feel that this was probably I should keep to myself at that stage, as I grew up at a time when if any boys were ‘different’ in any way at school they might be bullied..

But from that time on I became interested in wearing them more. I didn’t get that many opportunities when I was younger, but later on I started to buy pairs from myself. I experimented with different brands and styles (sheer, opaque, support etc) until I found what I liked.

It did feel somewhat lonely at first as in those days there were not many men wearing tights openly or admitting that they liked wearing them. Of course men wearing tights were visible in obvious places like theatre and dance, but not as a practical, every day item of clothing.

I think the breakthrough for me was in the early 1990s, when the upmarket tights brand Wolford made and marketed a style of black opaque tights for men. They called them ‘waist socks’, rather than tights (probably for marketing reasons). They got quite a lot of media coverage at the time and I actually remember going to the Wolford flagship store in Bond Street and trying to buy them but they didn’t yet have them in stock. I wish I had gone back as those tights are a very rare collector’s item now!

But with the internet, I have found that there were very large numbers of guys that were wearing tights and almost all the leading tights retailers, such as My Tights, were starting to cater for them.

Did it affect your confidence when you first started to wear them out?

Well, at first I was quite wary of sharing this preference with anyone, for fear of stigma etc. But actually those demons are just in one’s own head really. I have always worn them under trousers, and wear occasionally with shorts. Although I know there are some men who are very open about wearing them with shorts and this is also a look that many leading fashion designers have been developing.

I used to be worried that someone would notice, so used to always wear socks over them, Now I don’t bother if anybody notices whether I am wearing opaque tights or sheers.

I feel very confident wearing them now and in cold weather the feeling is wonderful. They seem to have this ability to warm the whole body.

What issues do you have when choosing tights for yourself, such as sizing, fit etc?

I have learned a great deal from buying different brands and styles, and also from testing the samples that I am sent for the Hosiery For Men blog that I write. Good quality sizing information is essential for men buying tights for themselves. We tend to be taller and of course have a different anatomy, particularly in certain areas! In general I look for tights that are available in a wider range of sizes and avoid one-size sizing as that almost always doesn’t work out well. I look for sizing that caters for 5’10″ and taller. Another key factor is whether the brief/panty has good depth – low-rise waists are not good for most men. They need tights that can comfortably stretch above the waist. Not all women’s brands do that. Plus size ranges often have good potential.

I particularly look for quality fabric and tights that are going to wear well and not ladder very easily, probably because we expect more wear from them, and we may not always handle them as carefully as women.

I also look at the Lycra/Elastane content in the fabric as that is a key factor in getting a good fit.

What styles and brands do you like?

I prefer the better quality and slightly more expensive brands. Basically when it comes to buying hosiery, you do get what you pay for. My preferences include Falke, Wolford, Aristoc and Cette. You pay a bit more for some of these brands but it’s worth it for the quality and how much wear you get from the tights.

Falke, in particular, are really superb. Every product they bring out seems to have been carefully designed and developed. The range of sizing is excellent and the XL sizes always fit me perfectly. They use premium yarns and their tights always make your legs feel amazing. I love their Pure Matt 100 tights in really cold weather. The Pure Matt 50 tights are also great when it is cool. The Falke Cotton Touch tights are another favourite of mine, as they are so comfortable and the fabric breathes well. The Falke Pure Matt 20 tights are a great premium sheer tight and seem to last for ever if you look after them.

Falke used to make men’s tights also. They know that their products are popular with men across Europe but I am convinced that they now design their ranges to be unisex.

Why are tights a good idea for guys as well as women? What advantages do they have for men?

Well tights were invented by men so they have never really not been a good idea for us. Firstly they are practical for keeping your legs warm and healthy. Secondly they can provide support for the legs and circulation for men who work outside or who work standing up for long periods. Tights are very beneficial for men with leg cramps or circulation problems. Finally, they simply feel great. I can’t see why only women should be able to enjoy the benefits of wearing tights.

How do you like to style your tights?

I like opaque tights more than anything in dark colours such as black, brown and blue. I don’t really have a style as such as I wear them under trousers and jeans. But I do try and match the shade with the shoes or boots, and trousers I am wearing. I quite like argyle, ribbed and diamond styles as well. Thick black opaque tights look just like socks unless they have a shine to them.

I also like sheer and semi-sheer tights when it’s not very cold. They feel great under trousers, especially if they have a slight sheen to them.

What have been your experiences when buying tights for yourself?

My experiences, to be honest, have only been positive. A couple of times, sales assistants have assumed that I was buying the tights for someone else until I told them they were for me! Occasionally that has been met with surprise, but usually people have been really professional and helpful. I think that is because it is less unusual than people might think. One of the best experiences I had was in Harrods in London, who have an extensive range of Falke hosiery. The assistant talked me through the range and based her recommendations on her expertise and experience. That was the first time I tried the Falke Pure Matt 100 tights.

Of course, it is easy to but tights online now. My Tights, for example, has a huge range of brands and styles to choose from. This makes it so much easier to choose what you need. The selection is much more extensive than any high street store can offer.

To me it’s been such a positive development that there is such a great selection of tights available online now. There always seem to be new styles and brands to try. From a quality perspective, tights now are the best they have ever been. With modern technology and great fabrics, it is much easier for men to find great quality tights with good fit. My advice is to go for quality brands and you won’t be disappointed.

Falke Leg Aesthetics: A Guide

Falke Shaping Panty 15D Tights

Falke Shaping Panty 15D Tights

Between slogging away at your desk, the school run, or spending what feels like an eternity standing on the tube, there’s rarely any time to look after number one. Cue the amazing Leg Aesthetics range from German brand Falke, all of which are designed to make day to day life that little bit easier. The range is split into three different collections: Shaping, made with clever control tops to iron out lumps and bumps; Vitalizer, employing medium strength compression to eradicate tired pins; and Energizer, again helping to combat lethargic legs but offering a stronger compression factor. But as with other ‘techy tights’, it can be difficult to know what all the jargon means, so I thought it would be useful to round up the ranges and make it crystal clear what each collection can offer you.

Shaping

Giving your figure a defined shape and smoothing out problem zones, the Shaping range benefits from invisible shaping effect tops, discreetly flattening the stomach whilst ironing out your hips. Working alongside the shaping top, you’ll also find a shaping effect panty that targets the bottom and thighs. You’d be forgiven for thinking that a shaping effect might be uncomfortable and give you that dreaded ‘squeezing’ feeling, but fret not, for Falke have ensured all-day comfort thanks to innovative materials that caress the leg without constricting it. If you’re a fan of sheer tights, check out the Falke Shaping Panty 15D Tights, opting for the 20D alternative if you’re after something a little thicker. Or if you’re ready to wrap up warm and embrace the winter, the Shaping Panty 50D Tights are for you, keeping you snug without being thick enough to leave you melting once you reach the safety of the office!

Vitalizer

Next up is the Vitalizer range, which is brilliant if you often find yourself cursing your aching legs come the end of the day. This collection uses a medium strength pressure distribution, so is a great place to start if you have relatively little experience in wearing support tights. The magic works by applying gentle pressure to the legs, which in turn sends blood pumping around your arteries and veins to prevent legs from feeling heavy and tired. Leaving your legs full of vitality, they’re perfect for anyone who regularly embarks on long haul journeys, as well as anyone who spends long periods of time stationary or on your feet. Oh, and they’ve also thrown in a shaping effect for good measure! If it’s sheer tights you prefer, the Vitalizer 20D Tights should be your port of call. For something a little more cosy, take a look at the 40D alternative. But don’t worry about missing out if you’re not a fan of wearing tights altogether, the Vitalizer 20D Knee Highs offer the same benefits and can be worn beneath work trousers or jeans!

Falke Leg Energizer 50D Knee Highs

 Energizer

If you’re accustomed to wearing support hosiery and require a stronger control factor, this is where the Energizer range comes into its own. With an added impact of arteries and veins, the range will actively energize and stimulate your legs, increasing your mobility and benefitting from a shaping effect for slender looking legs. Again, Falke have catered for every preference, with two pairs of tights, one in a 30D and the other in a 50D depending on the weather, as well as two pairs of knee high socks (predictably also in a 30D and 50D).

Chic, functional and leaving your legs looking great from the inside out – what are you waiting for?

How NOT to wear hold ups!

Amber Rose

Amber Rose

While this blog usually celebrates the style choices of the rich and famous, this week we’re giving you all a lesson in how NOT to wear hosiery. Case in point: model and ex girlfriend of Kanye West, Amber Rose, who paired her nude hold ups with an extremely risqué black satin lace dress. From top to bottom, the look just didn’t do anything for us! That said, hold ups are a great choice for those of you who often overheat in tights, and it just so happens we have an incredible selection for you to choose from. With the winter fast approaching, we’ve rounded up the very best opaque hold ups on the market.

For everyday wear, the Levante 50D Suede Matte Opaque Hold Ups are a fab choice. Leaving change leftover from a tenner and available in two shades, these 50 denier hold ups will keep your legs snug in the autumn, and come with lace tops to add a little elegance to your day to day looks. If you like these but are after something with more durability, head to the Pure Matt 50D Hold Ups from German brand Falke. Offering a classic matte finish and with generous 6.5cm tops, they’ll stand the test of time and work across all occasions.

Emma Roberts

Emma Roberts

She’s the niece of Julia Roberts and an up and coming film star in her own right, so it goes without saying that Emma Roberts would have her own personal sense of style. And it appears she’s inherited her famous aunt’s impeccable dress sense too, stepping out across the pond in this gorgeous monochrome ensemble. Pairing a chic black and white mini dress with heeled sandals, the star of the show for us were her gorgeous sheer ankle socks, which added a rock chick touch to her look. Don’t think you need a Hollywood budget to mirror her gorgeous outfit either – as MyTights are on hand with our collection of copy cat ankle socks!

Falke Shelina Anklets

Falke Shelina Anklets

For a particularly similar pair, head to the Falke Shelina Anklets in Black, or the Levante Ritz Anklets in Nero, both of which have a sheer weight and simple appearance. But if you’re keen to inject some pattern into an otherwise plain look, it has to be the Pamela Mann All Over Hearts Anklet, which have a series of opaque love hearts to send hearts a flutter and bring out your inner romantic. For something equally chic, the Trasparenze Argo Socks have a gorgeous floral lace effect and are perfect for taking a day outfit into the evening.

Or if the weather means that something a little thicker is in order, the Trasparenze Monique Ankle Socks have always been a firm favourite of ours, and come with a host of brighter colours as well as black.

Want to mask your blemishes? Cover up sheers are the answer!

Working at a hosiery company, we’ve become accustomed to images of flawless looking legs on an everyday basis. Never-ending, perfect skin tone and not so much as a blemish in sight? While this is the dream for many, in reality we know that many women feel insecure about their pins. But instead of lamenting your imperfections and covering up in jeans 24/7, why not enhance what you’ve got, instead? One option is to turn to body foundation, a popular choice amongst celebrities before a red carpet event. But not only is this expensive, it creates a lot of mess and quite frankly we don’t have time to slot this into our already impossible list of tasks! What’s more, we don’t know how practical it would be whilst waiting for the bus in the rain…

Here at MyTights, we’ve discovered a far easier and affordable way to mask our imperfections, and it’s as simple as pair of coverage tights. So, what are coverage tights, you might ask? The trick is to opt for hosiery that’s ever so slightly thicker than your average sheer, ranging somewhere between 20-40 denier. Choosing skin tone shades to give your pins a natural look, the slightly thicker weave helps to eradicate imperfections and create the impression of an even skin tone. And in typical MyTights fashion, we’ve rounded up a fantastic selection of cover up sheers to save you the hassle of rifling through hundreds of products. To make things even easier, we’ve separated the options into both light and darker coverage, so regardless of whether you hate your varicose veins, feel low about blotchy skin tone or want to mask your scars, you’re bound to find something to suit!

Light Coverage

Great for: Uneven skin tone, blotchy skin

If you require some light coverage, we recommend opting for tights in the region of a 20 denier, which offer just enough coverage to mask slight imperfections or blotchy skin. See our top picks below:

Ask The Expert: Your hosiery questions answered!

Spending the working week surrounded by tights, I’ve amassed a fair chunk of knowledge over the years about all the different realms of the hosiery world, whether on the production side of things, technical terms, or even how to instantly spot different types of toe (yes, really!) With the colder autumn months looming, we thought it would be a great idea to put together a one stop guide that will hopefully answer the most common questions the MyTights team are asked. Haven’t found the answer to the question you’ve always wanted to know? Don’t hesitate to contact our friendly customer services team who will be happy to assist!

1. What is denier?

All tights are discussed in terms of denier, but what actually is it? Well, put simply, denier is the technical term used to describe how thick hosiery is. Referring to the weight of the yarn from which the hosiery is woven, 1 denier means that 9,000 metres of yarn weights 1 gram. Generally speaking, the lower the denier, the sheerer the appearance of the tights are. Likewise, the higher the denier, the more opaque the hosiery will be!

 Denier

2. What’s the difference between sheer and opaque hosiery?

You might have noticed that hosiery is classified as being either sheer and opaque, the difference lying in the weight of the yarn used. Sheer hosiery (usually between 10-20 denier) is finer in appearance, and thin enough for your skin to show through. Opaque hosiery on the other hand is thicker in appearance, much warmer and altogether more durable. We define opaque hosiery as being above 40 denier, with tights lying between 30-40 denier considered to be semi-opaque

3. What is a matte finish?

The most versatile of hosiery tends to have a matte finish. This is characterised by tights that have a completely flat look without any reflection, generally knitted from multifilament yarns which don’t reflect light. What’s more, matte hosiery won’t draw any attention to your legs, so can be worn for just about any event, regardless of whether it’s a trip to the shops or a formal event. How’s that for versatility?

4. What are the benefits of bare leg look hosiery?

You might think that wearing tights in exactly the same shade of your legs is futile, but wearing bare leg look hosiery has a host of hidden benefits. Like make up for your legs, skin tone styles give your pins a flawless finish, help in achieving an even colour and moisturised finish, and can even help you cheat your way to a sunkissed glow! What’s more, they offer some slight coverage should it be a chillier summer day, without taking away from a natural look.

5. Are footless tights the same as leggings?

Similar in appearance, the main difference between footless tights and leggings lies in the thickness. Although both are free from any material at the foot, leggings tend to be much warmer, and thick enough to be worn without the need for longer hemlines. Footless tights on the other hand tend to be less opaque, and would usually require a dress or tunic to cover up.

6. What’s the difference between hold ups and stay ups?

You may have seen both ‘hold ups’ and ‘stay ups’ used to describe the same style of hosiery, that is hosiery that offers a similar look to stockings, but with sticky pads rather than the inconvenience of a suspender belt. So, what is the difference? The answer is – there isn’t one! Both terms are used to describe the exact same thing – tomay-to, tomar-to!

7. Can I fix a snag in my tights before it becomes a ladder?

We’ve all been there – getting dressed in the morning to find our brand new tights have already snagged, it’s enough to put anyone in a bad mood! But to stop it developing into a ladder, a top yet very simple tip is to add a dab of clear nail varnish to the area. Or if you’re especially keen to prevent ladders from forming, check out our range of run resist hosiery, instead!

8. What makes fashion tights ‘fashion tights’?

Any regular visitors to the site will know that we separate some of our hosiery into a fashion category. This is generally the case when tights feature something that is considered to be a trend, be it a floral pattern, spots, diamonds, or even something as traditional as a backseams. Fashion styles will ensure you stand out from the style pack, and differ from plain opaques and sheers, which are considered to be more everyday wear.

9. Which hosiery brands will last me the longest?

At MyTights, we hand select our products to ensure that they all offer value for money, but there are some brands that tend to go the extra mile in terms of durability. As with all walks of life, you get what you pay for when it comes to hosiery, but my top tips for brands to invest in when you’re building a hosiery capsule are Wolford, Falke and Oroblu. That’s not to say that the brands in the more affordable end of the price bracket should be overlooked however, and I would also advise to take a look at our ladder resist styles, which are made with specialist yarns to prevent ladders from forming.

10. How often should I wash my tights?

We recommend to wash your hosiery after every wear, to keep it a) looking its best, and b) staying fresh. In an ideal world, washing hosiery by hand is the best solution to keeping it looking pristine, but alternatively, popping your tights in a hosiery bag and using a cool wash is an equally good method!

11. How should I dry my tights?

One of the worst things you can do to your hosiery is to leave it to dry near direct heat, such as a radiator. STOP IN YOUR TRACKS! Drying in extreme temperatures will damage the weave, and will likely leave your tights ready for the fashion scrapheap. The best way to dry tights is on the line, or on a drying rack placed away from any direct heat. Oh, and never iron, either!

12. Which denier weights are appropriate for which season?

We all know how quickly the weather can change from heatwave to washout, but generally speaking, different weights of hosiery will be more of use in specific seasons. In the winter, stick to thermal tights or opaque tights, occasionally wearing semi opaque hosiery should it be a milder day. The spring and autumn months are often subject to change, but typically you’d wear semi-opaque or sheer styles. In the summer, opt for sheer or for something extra natural – ultra sheer styles.

13. Control tights vs. Support Tights – what’s the difference?

Control top tights and support tights are similar in that they both have hidden talents, and offer a lot more than meets the eye. The fundamental difference is that control top tights help to smooth over your figure using hidden shaping zones, whereas support tights alleviate tired legs by boosting circulation, thanks to a system called graduated compression. This works by applying pressure at your ankles, which gradually travels up the leg, getting lighter as it does so. Both equally as brilliant, however!

14. What’s the best type of toe to wear with different footwear?

If you’re a fan of chunkier footwear styles such as winter boots and trainers, I would recommend opting for a reinforced toe, which has a thicker weave to prevent any holes from forming in the often fragile toe area. Next up on the spectrum are sandal toes, which have barely visible reinforcement, where the weave is slightly stronger across the toe, but perfect for wearing with open toed shoes.

In the summer, sheer toes are invaluable, and are common in ultra sheer tights. Sheer toes should be worn with open toed footwear as strappy sandals, as can open toed styles, which you should choose if you want a super natural look, but still want to benefit from the even skin tone offered by sheers.

15. What’s the difference between gusset types?

Tights can not only differ in terms of denier and toe, but in the type of gusset they use too. Tights with a cotton gusset are designed to improve comfort, fit and hygiene, and can be recognised by a white circular patch in the section where the legs join. Similar to a cotton gusset, traditional gussets also help to improve comfort and fit, but won’t aid hygiene, as they aren’t made from breathable cotton.

Not all tights will have a gusset however, with some opting to have the same fabric on the crotch as in the rest of the leg. Finally, some styles may also have an open gusset, in which there is no fabric whatsoever on the crotch, and these are great for keeping cool and refreshed in the warmer weather.

Laura’s Choice: My Hosiery Drawer Staples

Having founded a hosiery company, one of the most common questions I’m asked is which tights I couldn’t live without. Whilst a thorough list of all the styles I’ve worn and liked over the years would probably equate to the length of a Dickensian novel, I’ve rounded up a collection of essentials that I turn to on a near weekly basis. Chosen for their quality, versatility and classic style, consider these my ‘desert island hosiery picks!’

Bare Leg Looks

Weather permitting, at this time of year, I try to wear bare leg hosiery as often as possible. What I love about ultra sheer hosiery is that it looks as if I’m not wearing anything on my legs at all, yet helps to even out skin tone and create a moisturised finish. Anyone who frequently visits the blog will know that my absolute favourites are the Falke Shelina Tights, thanks to their flawless 8 denier appearance and 12 denier strength. Made in 7 skin tone shades as well as classic black, I promise you that owning a pair of these will be your finest fashion choice to date. If you love to dig out strappy shoes during the summer months, they also come in a toeless variation, complete with handy toe loop to keep the style in place.

Sheers

If I’m in the mood to wear something a little more noticeable on my legs but still want to stay cool, another one of my favourites are the Oroblu Sensuel 13 Tights. Available in an array of colours, these 13 denier tights have a silky soft finish and slight sheen that’s perfect for wearing to elegant events. If I want to add some extra luxury to my legs, the best on the market for that are the Falke Fond de Poudre Tights. Boasting a slight sheen finish and enough shades to give you an abundance of choice, they feel uber soft against your legs and have a sandal toe, so can be worn with any footwear you wish. Or if you’re on a budget, another fab choice are the Aristoc Ultra Shine Tights, which are particularly great for swankier occasions, with an extra glossy finish that adds a little panache to your look for just £6 a pair.

The next style in my hosiery capsule are hard to group, as they look like sheer tights, but are actually opaque! Before you think I’m going mad, allow me to introduce you to the Wolford Neon 40 Tights. Typically Wolford in that they really do go the extra mile and are virtually indestructible, these glossy 40 denier tights have the durability and warmth of an opaque, but appear like 20 denier sheers! Perfect for masking imperfections and working to almost camouflage your legs, these are incredibly popular and come in a host of different shades.

Fishnets

Fishnet tights are particularly on trend at the moment, and despite their open net design, can be worn all year round with some careful styling My favourites are the Trasparenze Rita Tights, which have a larger than average net for a twist on the classic style. Perfect everywhere from the workplace to the bar, they‘re available in 7 colours, ranging from the classic black through to the slightly wackier shades of  Mattone (burnt orange) and Lampone (fuchsia pink). A top tip for wearing fishnets all year round is to layer over another pair of tights: sheers for a natural look or a pair of colourful tights if you’re feeling experimental. For a brilliant selection of coloured tights, take a look at the Jonathan Aston 40D Tights, with 21 vibrant shades and a price tag that nobody could be disappointed with!

Patterns

I tend to wear less loud patterns now than I used to, but when I do, I like to opt for classic prints that have a habit of staying in fashion every season. Investing in a quality pair of fashion tights is a must, as they’re simply brilliant for updating plainer outfits. For me, the most classic print of all is polka dots, which is why I love the Adelle Tights from Italian label Oroblu. Featuring a plethora of small spots that run throughout and uninterrupted by a brief, they’re fab in that they’re understated enough to wear to the office, yet dressy enough should some impromptu after work socialising be on the cards.

Opaques

While opaques may be the last thing of your mind in the middle of the summer (even during this damp patch), having a few pairs of quality opaques to hand is an absolute must. During the autumn and winter months, one of my favourite styles are the Falke Seidenglatt 70 Tights, with a warming 70 denier weight, beautifully shiny finish and kind of durability you’d expect from a quality brand. For dressing up, you should also take a look at the Wolford Satin de Luxe Tights, with their ultra shiny finish and subtle backseam.

Should we be unlucky enough to find ourselves in a seriously cold snap, no need to hibernate – simply grab a pair of the Falke Warm Deluxe Tights instead. Giving legs reassuring warmth the second you pull them on, these thermal tights utilise a soft plush technique that conserves heat and keeps the cold out! The other fleecy option I love are the Pretty Polly 200D Fleecy Opaque Tights, which feature a cosy fleeced lining and were once described by The Guardian as ‘the best thing to happen to winter since hot chocolate.’ Praise indeed!

Laura’s Choice: Plus Size

Shopping for tights on the high street can be a stressful task at the best of times (hence the birth of MyTights!), but it’s made worse by the fact that, even in 2015, the majority of stores seem to entirely overlook fuller figures. Motivated by our mission to find stylish hosiery for all, we’ve quite literally scoured the market to find the very best in plus size tights, hold ups and more, with styles accommodating hip sizes up to 60”. From everyday sheers through to tights that do more than meets the eye, you’ll find everything you need flatter your curves at MyTights.com…

The everyday heroes

Head turning they may not be, but where would we be without our everyday styles? Giving us a classic look without meaning we have to survive on bread and water until payday, anyone on the lookout for affordable sheers should head to the Pretty Polly Curves (XXTRA) Ladder Resist Tights (3PP). With three pairs of 15 denier tights for just £6.50 a packet, they not only offer some slight coverage in warmer weather but are made from ladder resist technology to prevent snags from developing into ladders. Should your fashion ethos be ‘glamour 24/7’, take a look at the Oroblu Magie 20 Plus Size Tights, which feature a gorgeous glossy finish for a sophisticated look that can extend into evening events if need be. If hold ups are more your cup of tea, the Levante Sheer Fantasy Stay Ups are a must, available in four shades and with luxe lace tops.

Of course, everyday hosiery isn’t all about sheers, and knowing how the British weather can switch from heatwave to washout in a matter of days, it makes sense to always have a few pairs of inexpensive opaques to hand. For dress sizes up to a UK 32, flatter your curves in the Pamela Mann 50 Denier Plus Size Tights, with a purse friendly price tag and 7 funky shades. When it comes to dressing for that ‘in-between’ weather, semi-opaque styles are the way to go, with the Charnos XeLence 50D Plus Size Tights my top choice. Specially designed for fuller figures, these opaques come in three colours and boast special anti-chafing panels to keep you feeling comfortable with every wear.

Never say no to fashion

Looking to get dressed up? A pair of fishnets is always a good idea, which brings us to the newest member of the MyTights warehouse – the Pamela Mann Plus Size Fishnet Tights. The fuller figured alternative to their regular fishnets, these tights are available in sizes ranging from 16-32 and in two classic shades. With their classic net design, they can also work to give your working wardrobe a little upgrade too, so they’re an incredibly versatile option. The mock suspenders trend has been an ever present ever since they burst on to the scene via Henry Holland a few years back, so grabbing a pair of the Pretty Polly Curves Suspender Tights makes perfect style sense, their 60/20 denier split and printed suspender straps. Also from the Curves range, make your mark on the spotty trend with the Dot Diamond Tights, with a scattering of diamonds across the entire leg and sizes up to an XXL.

A helping hand

Long gone are the days where hosiery was just about keeping you warm, nowadays all of the brands are designing styles with hidden traits that most superheroes would be envious of. The success of the Aristoc Bodytoners range speaks for itself, so if you are looking for an extra helping hand to trim your figure without succumbing to a diet of spinach, head to the Opaque Toner Tights, which employ a top secret medium strength control top that works on your tum, bum and thighs.

Whether you spend 40 hours a week battling with a spreadsheet or find yourself on your feet for lengthy periods, it’s inevitable that your legs will start to feel tired and jaded. Combating lethargic legs and looking great to boot, the Levante Relax Firm Support Tights not only have a hidden control top but use graduated compression to boost circulation. There’s far less sensible (and headache inducing) ways to spend £12!

Touch of luxury

A touch of luxury never hurt anybody, and with hosiery it’s often the case that you get what you pay for. So if you are seeking a little refinement for your legs, I love the Falke Seidenglatt 15D Tights, which come in no less than shades. Suitable for hips of up to 56”, they boast a shiny finish that’s great for evening do’s and an adjustable waistband that can sit as high or low as feels right for you. Finishing off my plus size selection are the Wolford Velvet De Luxe 66 Tights, which, in true Wolford fashion feel velvety soft to the touch, and come with a 66 denier weight that’s fab for ridding your winter blues.
