Laura’s Choice: Zandra Rhodes for Jonathan Aston!

MyTights Hannah with Zandra herself

MyTights Hannah with Zandra herself

You may remember some time ago now we blogged about attending the launch of an exciting new hosiery collaboration between one of our favourite brands, Jonathan Aston, and world renowned fashion designer Zandra Rhodes (a Dame, FYI.) Well we’re pleased to announce the new collection has landed at MyTights HQ… and it does anything but disappoint! At the launch, we got a sneak preview into some of the patterns and prints that might be on offer, and it’s been great to see how these have been transferred into chic and above all, wearable pieces.

As far as partnerships go, we think this one’s a real winner. On a par with strawberries and cream, fish and chips and even Ant & Dec, the range offers designer fashion for your legs but without the A-list price tag! With three pairs of gorgeous fashion tights in the mix and a pair of ankle socks for good measure, we’ve rounded up the collection that everyone’s talking about…

Zandra Rhodes for Jonathan Aston Peacock Net Tights

Zandra Rhodes for Jonathan Aston Peacock Net Tights

Now, anyone who’s followed the career of Rhodes will know that she’s famed for adding quirky touches to her fashion, so much so that she’s developed a couple of trademark traits, one of which being peacock print. Taking advantage of the hosiery expertise offered by Jonathan Aston, the designer has created the gorgeous Peacock Net Tights, which are made from a tulle base to reveal a slight glimpse of skin. Covered in an intricate effect reminiscent of peacocks, they’ll offer a decorative touch to evening outfits, and contain Lycra, so will fit like a glove. If you like these but don’t often wear tights, Rhodes has also created an ankle socks alternative. Great for wearing with heels and flats alike, the socks come with elastic tops and are reinforced at the toe to halt the effect of wear and tear.

Another of Rhodes’ trademarks has also made the cut in the Safety Pin Tights. Beginning at the waistband, these 60 denier opaques not only keep you warm, but come with a quirky backseam to draw attention to your legs. Extending down the leg in wayward fashion before wrapping around your lower legs, the ‘chain-like’ print culminates in embellished safety pins to give your whole look some wow factor. But don’t worry about the health hazards – the pins are printed to appear like the real thing, just without the inevitable bleeding!

Zandra Rhodes for Jonathan Aston Wiggle Tights

Last but not least, the collection also comprises the Wiggle Tights. Fabulously fun and great for injecting some prints into plainer outfits, these black semi-opaques feature a squiggly effect that runs throughout. Created by hundreds of tiny holes that cover the leg in contrast to the opaque base, these are great for wearing to parties, and are made sheer to waist, so work with any hemline!

And just in case you were after a spot of designer fashion but nothing’s caught your eye here, Jonathan Aston have also worked alongside Celia Birtwell for another gorgeous range. Now that’s only way to celebrate your 50th birthday!

Celeb style: Demi Lovato in Fishnets!

Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato

If you keep one eye on the celeb sphere like us, you’ll know that fishnets are fast becoming the legwear of choice for anyone who’s anyone in the showbiz world. This week saw the annual VMA’s take place, known for its outrageous performances and risqué fashion. One such outfit caught our eye, coming from pop superstar Demi Lovato, who, while performing alongside hip hop queen Iggy Azalea, wore a pair of, you guessed it…fishnet tights! The perfect choice for her bondage inspired bodysuit, her fishnets stood out perfectly against her knee high leather boots. Okay, so we might not dig out our own diamante bodysuit on a daily basis, but you too can try out the fishnet trend this season with the incredible selection at MyTights. Whether you opt to show off your legs for an evening event a la Demi or try out a durable pair of micronets for the office, you’ll find everything at MyTights.com.

Jonathan Aston Micronet Tights

The everyday gems: Affordable, available in a host of colours and always on hand to transform your look, anyone looking to try out fishnets for the first time should head to the Pamela Mann Fishnet Tights!

The workplace wonders: Offering a similar level of coverage to sheers but with some extra durability, try out the Jonathan Aston Micronet Tights in the workplace. Showing through a subtle hint of leg, they’re great for updating tired dresses and come in black as well as a chic natural shade.

The fashion forward: Classic styles are all well and good, but for occasions where something a little funkier is necessary, take a look at the brand new Charnos Floral Opaque Tights! With their tulle net, they’ll show through a tasteful glimpse of leg and feature a gorgeously decorative floral effect.

The luxury option: If you’re looking to build a hosiery capsule, investing in a pair of classic fishnets is a must. Our favourites are the Wolford Twenties Tights! Completely seamless for all day comfort, they’ll stay hidden beneath figure hugging styles and stand the test of time.

Looks We Love: Cool, White Summer

cool-summerAt MyTights, we’ve always got one eye on the catwalks to see what’s trending in the world of hosiery. One show that particularly caught our eye this season was Giambattista Valli’s Spring/Summer 2015 collection. The epitome of cool and elegance, the show oozed sophistication and featured an abundance of summer hosiery in neutral shades of white, ivory and cream. Perfect for wearing at this time of year, especially with the mini-heatwave we’ve been experiencing of late (let’s hope it lasts!), we thought it would be a great idea to pull together our favourite white hosiery, and show you how you can style this often difficult colour.

To nail this style it’s all about choosing colours within similar realms. What makes it so elegant is its simplicity, so it gives you a great chance to experiment with different textures, fabrics, and patterns.

If you normally wouldn’t wear lace tights, trying out the Jonathon Aston Sweet Roses Tights in Ivory is a must. Beautifully crafted using a cut and sew technique, these

tights are perfect for pulling off your summer looks. Finish off the ensemble with cute summer dresses in lighter fabrics, mixing in some fringe detailing and lace for extra style points.

Another great pick from Jonathon Aston are the Sheer Coloured Tights, available in 19 colours including chic white. A solid white sheer is great for wearing with just about anything, and don’t be afraid to experiment with fun textures such as feathers or sequins. We’ve covered lace and plainer styles, now it’s time to discuss printed tights! Anyone with any fashion know-how will know that spots are everywhere this season Subtle, versatile and bang on trend, pull off the look with the Wolford Nola Tights, which feature an exquisite side seam made up of individual polkadots.

MyTights have your summer hosiery covered, but if you crave even more inspiration, be sure to also check out our Cool Summer Mood Board on Pinterest!

Fab in Fishnets – Alesha Dixon

Alesha Dixon

Alesha Dixon

While the emphasis may have been on the latest bunch of hopefuls competing in the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent, something else stood out for the MyTights team during last night’s results show. Taking to the stage for the first time in 4 years (time flies!), judge Alesha Dixon showed all the contestant how it’s done, with an all-singing, all-dancing rendition of her latest single. As catchy a tune as it may be, our favourite thing about the performance were her fishnet tights! It’s fair to say her extravagant two-piece was probably a little too risqué for a trip to the shops, but we loved her choice of legwear, so much so that we’ve rounded up our favourite fishnet fancies on offer. Perfect for this time of year, fishnets should form part of a summer capsule for any fashion-conscious lady. Here’s our top 5!

Levante Fishnet Tights

Levante Fishnet Tights

The classic

If it’s a classic net you’re after à la Alesha, the Levante Fishnet Tights are the perfect place to start, with two timeless shades and purse-friendly price. Every woman should own a pair like these, not only slotting seamlessly into your evening wear but your office wardrobe to boot.

The colourful

While we’d never turn our noses up at a pair of black fishnets, sometimes only a splash of colour will liven up our outfits. Fashion favourites Pamela Mann agree, with their Fishnet Tights, available in 9 colours, ranging from the safety of black through to Flo Yellow.

Jonathan Aston Oxygen Tights

Jonathan Aston Oxygen Tights

The Fashion Forward

As great as classic nets are, fishnets are forever being reinvented, and never more so than with the Jonathan Aston Oxygen Tights, with a unique curved net that reminds us of the art deco period. Or if seams are your weakness, take a look at the Oroblu April Tights, with a side seam stretching along the outside leg compelte with attractive tricot effect.

The hold ups

It’s not only tights on offer at MyTights. If you prefer the look and feel of hold ups, treating yourself to the Pamela Mann Fishnet Hold Ups is a must, with their classic design and elegant lace tops. And just £5 a pair!

Nets never go out of fashion, so make sure you check out our complete range of fishnets before you depart.

Bad Blood, Great Style

Taylor Swift - Wolford Stella Tights

Taylor in her Stella Tights

She’s only gone and done it again! Of course, we’re referring to Taylor Swift, or as we like to call her, ‘the best dressed legs in showbiz’, who this week premiered the new video for her latest single Bad Blood. Not only music to our ears but for our eyes too, the video was packed full of A-list faces, visual effects and most importantly, Wolford hosiery! The luxury Austrian brand clearly holds a special place in Taylor’s heart, choosing not one but two styles from their fabulous collection. In typical MyTights fashion, we have everything you need to recreate the look, stocking both of the styles worn in the video. So while you might not have her millions in the bank, her musical talent or celebrity friends, there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy the same legwear look as Swifty herself…

Wolford Stella Tights

Wolford Stella Tights

Geometric prints are everywhere at the moment, but if you needed any more excuses to try out the trend, follow Taylor’s lead and opt for the Wolford Stella Tights. These 20 denier sheers have a striking graphic side seam that runs up the leg and culminates in a chic sewn in band at stay up height. While Taylor glams hers up with a black mini, there’s no reason why they can’t be dressed down for the daytime, too. All you need is a pair of denim shorts and white long sleeved tee and you have a look that any pop princess would be proud of!

Taylor Swift - Wolford Individual 10 Stockings

And in the Individual 10 Stockings!

Not to be outdone, Taylor can also be spotted in the Wolford Individual 10 Stockings, which she paired with heeled boots and a skirt with a risqué front split. Packed full of the luxury features that Wolford customers are accustomed to, these silky soft stockings come with 6.5cm plain tops that gently hug your thighs without even a hint of pinching. Perfect with just about anything in your wardrobe and for any occasion, if they’re good enough for Taylor…

We don’t think it’ll be too long before Taylor’s hosiery is making the headlines again, so watch this space…

That’s what we call a shimmering success, Miley!

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus

Leaving her wrecking ball at home for the day, Miley Cyrus this week stepped out in a pair of tights that more than appealed to our inner magpie. While the 22 year old star usually finds herself at the top of the ‘worst dressed list’, she’s clearly been taking style advice from somewhere, mastering the trend for metallic with her gold sparkly tights. Okay, so we’re not so keen on the rest of her outfit. In fact we’d go as far as saying we hate it, but with legwear like that, who cares?! Perfect for parties and as seen on the likes of Alexa Chung, sparkly tights are enjoying a fashion moment of late, and in typical MyTights fashion, there’s no reason why anyone need miss out.

Pamela Mann Lurex Highball Footless Tights

Pamela Mann Lurex Highball Footless Tights

For a copycat look (minus that garish jacket, we hope), opt for the Pamela Mann Lurex Highball Footless Tights. Available in silver as well as gorgeous gold, these footless fancies were once spotted on the legs of Fearne Cotton herself, which comes as no surprise to us. Catching the light and a must have for the party season, you can also wear peep toe heels should you wish!

Iff something a little less dramatic is your preference, take a look at the Trasparenze Deejay Tights, covered in subtle metallic flecks. Admittedly not as eye catching as Miley’s, these semi opaque tights are understated enough to be worn in the day as well as the night. Or if you want to combine your adoration for all things polkadot with sparkle, the Pamela Mann Sparkly Gold Spot Tights are a must, covered in embellished spots that cover the entire leg. Who knew a glamorous look could cost under a tenner?

It’s not only tights that have been given the embellished treatment either. For a pair of razzle dazzle socks, we love the Jonathan Aston Perfect Pellerine Socks, which have a lurex thread running throughout to gently catch the light as you strut your stuff.

Miley, you’re learning! Check out our entire range of sparkle and high shine hosiery before you leave.

Pamela Mann 3D Footless Tights

Pamela Mann 3D Footless Tights

As much as a life without our opaques doesn’t bear thinking about, we can’t help but thinking that it’s high time that we switched to a more summery alternative. Footloose and fancy free, footless tights are the perfect solution. Meaning you can seek solace from the chilly mornings and show off your summer sandals at the same time, footless tights are brilliant for pulling off a relaxed daytime vibe, or adding some effortless cool to your party looks. Finer than leggings and available in every colour of the rainbow, we’re here to let you in on all of our footless style secrets to ensure your summer style goes off without a hitch…

The wallet warriors

At this time of year, most of us are busily saving for a last minute holiday in the sun, so it makes sense to save the pennies while we can. Proving that a fabulous footless style needn’t cost the earth, stocking up on the Pamela Mann 3D Footless Tights is a must. Leaving you with change leftover from a fiver, these 50 denier lovelies are thick enough to cover your legs, without overheating should a summer heatwave take hold (unlikely, I know!) Wondering what the reference to 3D in the title means? Thanks to innovative elastic fibres, these footless tights have a generous stretch that will move alongside your legs, as well as adding a dash of durability and leading to a beautifully even appearance. Oh, and with 16 colours in the mix, all of your outfits can join in on the fun!

Especially for fuller figured beauties, flatter your curves in the Pamela Mann 50D Plus Size Footless Tights, again just £4.99 a pair and accommodating for dress sizes up to a UK 28-32. While we live in hope that this summer will bring some longed for warmth, they also come in an 80 denier version for the extra chilly days.

The secret saviours

Any of you who regularly read our blog will know we love hosiery with hidden benefits. After all, who doesn’t want as much from their money as possible? With the mercury rising, I have to point you in the direction of the Pretty Polly Coolsense Footless Tights. While you may fool the outside world into thinking these are any old pair of footless tights, they’re actually made from Nilit Breeze yarns. None the wiser? Considerably smoother and lighter than other footless styles, the innovative yarns mean that you’ll always stay at least 1◦c cooler than usual, keeping you feeling lovely refreshed – even after a mad dash for the bus! Or if the thought of tomorrow mornings spin class fills you with dread, iron out your lumps and bumps the easy way with the Spanx In Power Line Super Footless Shaper. Strong control shaping shorts with inbuilt 15 denier footless tights, your body insecurities aren’t going to hang around for much longer!

Country Kids Capri Tights

Country Kids Capri Tights

The fashion favourites

Basic styles are a key part of every wardrobe, but for events where only glamour will suffice, take a look at the Pamela Mann Lurex Highball Footless Tights. As seen on Fearne Cotton, these fabulous footless tights are covered in shimmering glitter. Packed full of wow factor and destined for parties, your inner disco diva can choose between silver and gold sparkle depending on your style preference.

Paying homage to the trend for patterns and prints, another of my top picks are the Trasparenze Graphium Leggings. Coming in at a 40 denier, these decorative leggings are covered in an ornamental paisley print to rack up the style points. Or if you’re forever falling under the charms of lace, opt for the Oroblu Sherry Leggings, new for SS15 and coming with a sumptuous floral lace effect against a tulle base.

Does coloured hosiery makes you go weak at the knees? Stocking up on the Trasparenze Dorella Footless Leggings is a must. Whether you wow in white or thrill in fuchsia pink, these 70 denier leggings are perfect for pairing with summer tunics and brightening your look. If you don’t want your daughter to be green with envy, treat her to the Country Kids Capri Tights, with 10 summery shades and sizes ranging from 3 years all the way up to 11.

Footless styles are chic, effortless and ready to kickstart your summer wardrobe. Now, if only locating my summery sandals was this easy…

Levante Fishnet Tights

Levante Fishnet Tights

Opaque Tights: Classic opaques are a necessity for every woman. Warm, stylish and the most versatile legwear around, there really isn’t an occasion where they won’t work. Extra Benefits:  Treat yourself to some tights that work a little harder than the norm; our favourites are the Levante Relax Firm Support Tights, not only giving you an elegant sheer look, but also working to tame your lumps and bumps AND spell an end to jaded and achey legs. They deserve a medal!

Laura’s Choice: Top Patterned Picks!

Oroblu Bouquet Leggings

Oroblu Bouquet Leggings

Apparently, us women wear just 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time, and as much as it pains me to say it, I have to admit that I’m no exception. While there’s nothing wrong with having a capsule collection, it’s a real shame that that dress we simply HAD to have during an impromptu splurge will never see the light of day. One of the main reasons for our clothes languishing in our wardrobe is not knowing how to make them pop, particularly with plainer styles. Sure, they might look rather boring on the hanger, but working amongst hosiery 24/7 has taught me exactly how to make plainer styles work. The answer? Patterns. From head-turning geometrics to delicate florals, there’s no better way to rack up the style points, and my round-up of my favourite prints below means that nobody has to miss out.

FLORALS

Why florals?: delicate and understated, florals are perennially chic and add a feminine twist for any occasion.

Fashions have a habit of coming and going, but florals have dug their heels into the ground and stubbornly stayed put. If you’re looking for a classic floral print, take a look at the Charnos Opaque Flower Tights. Made in a semi-opaque 40 denier (ideal for this time of year, FYI), the mix of roses and leaves, can be dressed up or down, while the inclusion of a sheer toe adds the versatility factor. If something a little bit quirky is on your radar, cast your eyes over the Jonathan Aston Spontaneity Tights, reinventing the trend for seams with a vibrant pink floral seam stretching along the outside leg. Completing my floral trio are the Oroblu Bouquet Leggings, brand new to MyTights and doing exactly what they say on the tin (well, packet). Stretchy leggings covered in an array of colourful flowers, opt for these if you’re after stand out appeal that will from AM to PM.

Jonathan Aston Magma Tights

Jonathan Aston Magma Tights

GEOMETRICS

Why geometrics?: life is taken too seriously, so why not mix things up a bit with some edgy geometrics, which just so happen to be having something of a fashion moment…

You may not have worn geometrics before, and understandably so. After all, they’re a far cry from your classic black opaques, but there really is nothing more effective for jazzing up your basics and making things look as good as new. My favourites are the Jonathan Aston Magma Tights, which have a swarm of rectangles and opaque motifs randomly scattered across a 10 denier leg. They’re fun, quirky and entirely affordable, what’s not to love? To really take things up a notch, the particularly fashion-forward amongst us might want to take a look at the Wolford Stella Tights. These very tights featured in the Mario Dice collection at Milan Fashion Week, and it’s simple to see why they made the cut, with a striking graphic design on the outside leg, not to mention the mock hold up band. Not wanting to limit the geometric trend to just tights, your feet can join in on the action too with the Charnos 3PP Geometric Trainer Liners. One stripe, one check and one chevron – three times the style!

SPOTS

Charnos Geo Spot Tights

Charnos Geo Spot Tights

Why spots?: offering a sweet style for day or night, you’ll also be in the sartorial company of the likes of Anne Hathaway and woman of the moment Taylor Swift.

Spots are always near the front of my hosiery drawer. I love how they can transform even the simplest of dresses , without being too busy to mean they’re limited to more informal events. First things first, I’d like to introduce you to the Oroblu Adelle Tights, a classic pair of polkadot tights that I find myself turning to on a weekly basis. Proving that sometimes less can be more, the dainty dots and sheer base are great for transitioning from the office to the bar. If simple isn’t for you, step into high-fashion territory with the Wolford Leonie Tights. Recognisably Wolford, what you get here is a fashion-forward pair of sheers with larger than life polkadots which get gradually smaller as they ascend up the leg. Great for taking your basics out of a style rut! Mixing two patterns in one, my final pick is the Charnos Geo Spot Tights, which have all the credentials of polkadot tights but with a subtle diamond print that sits pretty in the background.

Give that other 80% a chance; patterns are all you need to boost your wardrobe and add a new dimension to the simplest of styles.

Until next time…

One brand that never let us down is Oroblu, and it just so happens that we recently received a long-awaited delivery of their SS15 collection!

2) Oroblu April Tightsfishnets are undergoing something of a style revolution of late – they just seem to be everywhere! No complaints from us, but for a particularly fashionable pair, these classic net tights are joined by a gorgeous side seam with an unusual tricot effect. MyTights founder Laura is a big fan!

3) Oroblu Luna Footprotectors these gorgeous foot liners epitomise Oroblu to a tee. Taking something as standard as a footprotector and making it into a high-end fashion accessory, the mix of net, floral lace and scallop edge make these a must-have in our eyes.

Oroblu Candice Long Pants

4) Oroblu Addison Tights a trick we always stick to is layering some sheers beneath fishnet tights to stay current and on-trend without compromising on warmth. Killing two birds with one stone, these brilliant fashion tights have an interlinking diamond pattern against an elegant sheer base, creating the illusion of nets and giving us all a new essential.

5) Oroblu Candice Long Pants finishing with something a little different, these fitted pants give the look of cropped trousers, but with the stretch and comfort as leggings. Sounds like the perfect marriage in our eyes!
