Summer Staples: The MyTights way!

Jonathan Aston Instinctive Tights

Jonathan Aston Instinctive Tights

While the weather might be feeling a little Jekyll and Hyde of late, with next week comes the beginning of June, which means one thing – its summer! Finally, it’s time to relegate your opaques to the back of the drawer, stock up on the suncream and bask in the rays of summer heatwaves (we hope!) The key to owning a summer wardrobe to be proud of lies in stocking up on staple items that will ensure you always have something suitable for the occasion. Whether for sun-soaked holidays, garden parties or the obligatory Saturday afternoon BBQ, MyTights are on hand to ensure your summer style goes off without a hitch!

Staple: Floral

Where: Garden parties, BBQs, nights out

Often considered to be the epitome of a summer style, floral prints are as big as ever this season, but MyTights being MyTights, we have everything you could possibly need. For a classic floral print, check out the Oroblu Elaine Tights, with a lace-like floral effect running across a tulle base. Or for something a little more quirky, you’ll adore the Jonathan Aston Instinctive Tights, with a striking side seam made up of brightly coloured floral motifs.

Jonathan Aston Sheer Coloured Tights

Nude Fishnets

Where: Nights out, the office

Listen up: no summer wardrobe is complete without pair of nude fishnet tights! Whether worn with sweet summer dresses or even in the workplace, nude fishnets are perfect for adding some interest to an otherwise bland outfit and keeping you feeling refreshed. The Levante Fishnet Tights in Naturel are perfect, opting for the Jonathan Aston Micronet Tights if you prefer a smaller net.

Staple: Pastels

Where: Weekend lunches, picnics

What would summer be without pastel hues? From chic lemon through to pretty pink, pastel colours are everywhere this season, so it makes sense to stock up. For a plethora of pastel hues, check out the Jonathan Aston Sheer Coloured Tights, or the Trasparenze Monique Ankle Socks.

Staple: Ankle Socks

Where: Picnics, nights out, trips to the seaside

When it comes to adding a finishing touch to your ballet pumps, we choose ankle socks every time. Perfect with skater skirts and tea dresses, ankle highs add that final flourish to your look, without breaking the bank. For colour, look at the Trasparenze Marta Ankle Highs, or if you prefer something patterned, the Charnos Spot Ankle Highs are a must.

Staple: Patterned Footless

Laura’s Choice: SS15 Fashion Top Picks!

To most other people, the turn of a new season means little more than a slight change in the weather (if we’re lucky!) For the team at MyTights however, with a new season comes an abundance of fabulous new hosiery making its way into our office. Welcome to SS15! With some of our gorgeous new collections already available on the website and plenty more to come in the upcoming weeks, what better way to get you excited for the warmer weather than with my top fashion picks for spring?! Okay, so it might not be toasty enough just yet to pack away our opaques for good, but it’s certainly heading in the right direction. Expect florals, nets and geometric glory – here’s a first look at what we’re all going to be wearing across the next few months…

Jonathan Aston

Jonathan Aston Magma Tights!

Jonathan Aston Magma Tights!

Of all the brands we stock, the new collections from British label Jonathan Aston are always amongst the most anticipated. Always keeping one eye on the catwalk, Jonathan Aston have a real knack for bringing the hottest trends into your hosiery drawer, and more importantly, at an affordable price. Good news – the SS15 range has followed suit! If you’re something of an old romantic, head towards the Jonathan Aston He Loves Me Tights. No need to pick away at the petals anymore, these 15 denier tights are covered in a realistic handwritten scrawl spelling out the famous ‘he loves me, he loves me not’ game. The guaranteed way to get admirers falling at your feet! For something a little more subtle, charm the socks off anyone who crosses your path in the Jonathan Aston Sweet Memory Tights. With their symmetrical floral print, these fashion sheers take sweet style to the next level, proving the perfect addition to your summer dress with their nude base and sandal toe.

From classic florals through to fashion-forward geometrics, I’m a real fan of the Jonathan Aston Magma Tights (that’s me in them on the left!) A far cry from your average sheer, these 15 denier tights are covered in opaque blocks and rectangles, coming together to give any ensemble a striking twist and hand you the fashion limelight. I’ve worn them a handful of times in recent weeks, and each time I’ve been complimented on how great they look, so they come highly recommended. Sticking with the style statement theme, the next new addition I’d like to introduce you to is the Jonathan Aston Crystal Socks. Made in a chic silvery-grey shade, what will immediately strike you about these ribbed fashion socks is the gorgeous satin bow at ankle height. Ideal for adding the je ne sais quoi your summer basics need, they’ll look just fabulous with a skater dress and sweet ballet flats.

Wolford

wolford-josephina-tights

Wolford Josephina Tights

It’s always a joy to bring you the latest releases from high-end Austrian label Wolford. What I love about this brand in particular is that they’re capable of taking a classic style and revamping it in a way that only Wolford can. Almost by magic, their newest additions do just that! Focusing first on the beautiful Wolford Josephina Tights, these fashion sheers look just like an ordinary pair of sheer tights at first glance. Turn to the side however and you’ll reveal a stunning quilted seam running along the outside leg. Not content with just elongating your legs, the quirky seam adds a real decorative touch to your look… unmistakeably Wolford!

If, like us, you’ve been following the recent AW15 fashion weeks, you’ll have noticed the wealth of wet look styles treading the boards of the runway. Appearing this week at the acclaimed Saint-Laurent Paris show, you can mirror the en vogue look with the Wolford Estella Leggings. A real investment piece, these skin-tight leggings are bound to bring out your inner rock chick, not only wowing with their high shine finish, but also coming with an unusual seam at the knee for yet more appeal.

Trasparenze

SPINDASIS_babbuccia

Trasparenze Spindasis Footlet

Not familiar with Trasparenze? Famous for their stand-out pieces as well as their timeless basics, the SS15 collection from the quality Italian label certainly doesn’t disappoint. From fashion socks through to classic leggings, there really is something for each and every one of us to indulge in. One of my personal highlights of the new range is the Trasparenze Fluture Socks. Ankle high sheers scattered with a ‘butter wouldn’t melt’ rose detail, they’re the perfect way to kickstart your summer style and update your old classics. One of the best things about the warmer weather is getting to wear those cute flats you banished to the back of your wardrobe last September again. Anyone who wears ballet pumps and court shoes regularly will know that they are prone to rubbing, which is where the Trasparenze Spindasis Footlets come into their own. With all the qualities of a traditional foot liner, what’s brilliant about these is that they’re actually made from floral net, so as well as protecting your feet from sores, they’re also a fully fledged accessory in their own right!

It’s not only funky styles on offer either – the range also caters for those of you who love a quality basic. Enter the Trasparenze Honeymoon Leggings, with their matte finish, choice of three colours and timeless design. The perfect way to bolster your hosiery capsule, these are the leggings you need to get you through the chillier spring/summer days. Tunics, dresses and longline tees, they really will work with anything! If you love the look of suspender tights but can deal without the hassle, I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t point you in the direction of the Trasparenze Pafia Tights. With the leg itself combining fashionable spots and diamonds, at stay up height you’ll find a chic floral band, resembling stockings and coming with a matching panty to create the illusion of sultry suspenders. Who knew THAT much style could be packed into a single pair of tights?

Charnos

Geo-spot-tights-main

Charnos Geo Spot Tights

Last but not least, I’d like to introduce you to the two latest offerings from British brand Charnos. Similar to the Trasparenze Pafia Tights in that they incorporate both diamonds and spots, the Charnos Geo Spot Tights will send your style credentials through the roof. Suitable to be worn both at the office and at the bar, they also come with a boxer brief to protect the most vulnerable area of the tights. From one summer must-have to another, the final product in my list is the Charnos Lacey Stripe Tights. Lace will forever be on-trend, so you can rest assured these 20 denier tights will remain fixture of your look for seasons to come. With floral lace panels descending down the leg in vertical style, these are perfect for giving your party wardrobe that push it needs.

With plenty more new lines planned to be launched onto the website in weeks to come, I suggest you watch this space!

Until next time…

Top Spring/Summer Styles

moulin-rouge-metallic-seam_1This season let your accessories do the work for you and stay on trend easily with these handy tips…

White Tights

Recently spotted on Suki Waterhouse, white tights aren’t for the faint-hearted, but when done correctly they look divine. For a splash of celeb style, follow Suki’s example and wear them with a pale pastel pink dress and platform sandals to get in on that “socks and sandals” trend. We recommend matching your pastel pieces with the Trasparenze Gennifer Merino Wool Tights made from 70% wool and available in Bianco Lana, as these wool tights are both cosy and chic. For a purse-friendly version then plump for the Pamela Mann 50 Denier Tights available in a huge range of colours including white. Curvy ladies will love the Pamela Mann 80 Denier Plus Size Tights designed especially for voluptuous figures. Now we can confirm that it’s official: white tights are not just for children but essential for nailing that pastel trend.

Metallic

It’s time to unleash your inner magpie and indulge in some serious glitter. Metallic tights and socks are the perfect way to embrace this trend without suffering from ‘shiny overload’. Get a sultry leg lengthening effect with the Moulin Rouge Metallic Seam Tights in 10 denier, from the front they look just like a normal pair of black sheer tights but as soon as you twirl round you can see their glittery line that travels up the back of both legs. If those fashion tights aren’t quite glittery enough for you, then check out the Jonathan Aston Lurex Anklet, full to the brim with gorgeous glitter. Style these stunning socks with flat pointed shoes and a full length lemon yellow coat.

Floral

wolford-delia-tights_2

What do we all think of when it comes to Spring/Summer, yes you guessed it: flowers. Give this pretty trend a more modern update with the Wolford Delia Tights in 20 denier with their floral take on polka dots. If you think lace is ace then you will adore the Jonathan Aston Sweet Roses Tights with their rose patterned design – these popular tights have been styled by Vogue no less, now if that won’t convince you I don’t know

what will!

Whether you’re a floral fan, metallic lover or adore all things white, we hope that we’ve helped you find your perfect pair of tights so that you can adopt those trends with panache.

Laura’s Choice: SS14 Trends

I love watching new looks emerge on the catwalk, but what’s even better is seeing how they translate on the high street – and of course how they’re reflected in the world of hosiery!  With the official arrival of spring last week, I’ve decided it was high time I shared with you some of my favourite trends for SS14, along with some inspiration on how to wear them… tienga-patterned-tights

Trend: Geometric Patterns

Seen at: House of Holland, Peter Pilotto

If you want to get away with patterns at the office, go for a small, all over design, like the Pretty Polly Layered Honeycomb Tights.  Team these with a pencil skirt and knee high boots and you’ll reveal just a flash of pattern as you walk – the ultimate grown up way to work the trend.  For the younger and bolder, a short A-Line skirt and plain cropped jumper will show off bold designs like the bondage style Pamela Mann Gridlock Sheer Tights, or create a fashion forward clash effect by donning the tribal-inspired Jonathan Aston Tienga Tights with a skater dress in a contrasting pattern.

Trend: Embellishments

Seen at: Mui Mui, Prada, Marc Jacobs

wolford-mimi-tights

Embellishments are back again, following on from last year’s Great Gatsby craze when everyone went mad for a little bling.  The best bit is embellished tights are so easy to wear, whether you choose to dress them up or down.  Try teaming something subtle like the Pamela Mann 120D Studded Tights with your regular office skirt and classic blouse, or for all out glamour go for something extra glitzy like the Trasparenze Party Tights, which are adorned with a trail of sparkly butterflies up the leg.  Mirror the sparkle with a statement necklace and voila!  A party ready look in an instant.

Trend: Florals

Seen at: House of Holland, Jonathan Saunders, Erdem

Florals are a spring staple, so you can stick with tradition and wear the Wolford Mimi Tights with summery pastel shades – the sweet floral side seam will instantly put spring in your step.  Or for an edgier way to wear them, oriental inspired styles like the Pamela Mann Flocked Rose Tights and the Jonathan Aston Rosy Tights will work really well with casual attire and a lashing of leather.

Trend: Lace

pamela-mann-baroque-tulle-tights

Seen at: Stella McCartney, Burberry Prorsum, Chanel, Marc Jacobs

Lace for spring is a revelation for me – I’d always thought of it as very much a winter staple, but who am I to argue with Chanel?  For a really up to the moment look team the Pamela Mann Baroque Tulle Tights with a jersey midi skirt, slouchy t-shirt, anklet booties and a long statement necklace… but I’ll be sticking to my tried-and-tested shift dress and Wolford Nahla Tights combination!

Trend: Sheer

Seen at: Christian Dior, PPQ, Maxmara

Sheer black tights are the hit of the season, with fashionistas from Alexa Chung to Miranda Kerr flying the flag for the shadowy sheers.  The best thing about them? They go with EVERYTHING, from floral sundresses to lace bodycons, and even city shorts and blazer pairings. A sheer 10-20 denier style is the ideal way to work the look – try my much loved Oroblu Sensuel Tights, which feel super soft to the touch and come in a huge range of colours if you’d rather branch out from black.  Or for a little more coverage, go for a 30 denier pair like the Calvin Klein Ultra Fit 30D High Waisted Tights (which have an in built control, top, too – perfect for form fitting dresses).

Until next week…

A MyTights Experience: London Fashion Weekend

In January, I abandoned my home in freezing cold Minnesota—located in the United States—and travelled to a fast-paced city consumed with fashion. In a little over two months, London has made me obsessed with staying updated on popular and upcoming styles. This was especially apparent after London Fashion Week.  I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a designer and a trend catwalk and interning at MyTights has possessed me to find tights to accompany these upcoming trends!

pink-floral-tightsDuring the designer catwalk show, I watched Maria Grachvogel’s garments float down the runway. They were very feminine, made with chiffon and consumed with bold neutrals (especially brown) and pastel colours. The dresses and tops were also a bit oversized and flowy, which actually accentuated femininity.  I think that the Wolford Sheer 15 Tights would correspond perfectly with chiffon and flowy garments because they are very fine and mimic the sheer look of chiffon.

I also attended a trend catwalk. In this show, there were three specific trends that were highlighted for the spring and summer season. I’ll give you a hint- they were titled “Flower Power”, “Good Sport” and “Precious Metals”.

The first trend “Flower Power” featured—you guessed it—big and bold flowers. Pamela Mann Ditsy Pink Floral Tights are patterned with floral and summer colours.  The Jonathan Aston Poppy Hold Ups and Jonathan Aston Rosy Tights (I would recommend the nude ones) are also bold, but create a twist on this upcoming trend with the flowers embedded into them.stardust-glitter-seams

The second trend, “Good Sport”, was inspired by sports and athletics. The colours included vibrant orange, red, white and blue, and the designs  used geometric shapes and were paired with tennis shoes. The Charnos Stripe Mesh Tights subtly mimic the look of a referee’s shirt, which can carry-on the sporty look with any garment, but especially an athletically enthused one.

The last trend, “Precious Metals”, included metallic pleats—especially gold. The Trasparenze Charter Hold Ups and the Pamela Mann Lurex Highball Tights will help you shimmer into the summer trend. The Jonathan Aston Stardust Tights also add a hint of this trend in the seam without being consumed by it, which is a great way to include this trend into your wardrobe for daytime.

I can’t wait to whip out my trendy tights this summer and I hope sharing my experience will help you embark on a summer full of fashion!
