Milan Fashion Week: From Classics To Eye-Catching Patterns

Anyone with a penchant for fashion will know that this time of year means one thing… the fashion weeks! The MyTights team has had their eagle eyes on any legwear making the cut on the catwalk – here’s our round up of Milan!

Funky fishnets made a big appearance at the Giamba show this week, and we’re loving it! Floral dresses, fishnets, and tall black boots took over the show. This look may be a bit much for your day to day wardrobe, but fishnets are a fun way to spice up any outfit. We have an abundance of fishnets to add to your hosiery drawer this season, from tights to stockings to ankle socks. And if you’re feeling extra daring, you can layer a pair of our fishnets over a pair of coloured or printed tights.

To nail the look, head to Italian brand Levante and the Levante Fishnet Tights, with their classic net design and choice of two colours. Want to add a splash of colour into your look? Customise by layering over a pair of Jonathan Aston 40D Opaque Tights for a quirky twist.

Sheer tights have always been a classic staple in every woman’s closet, and Milan Fashion Week was no exception. We loved the way Vivetta paired simple sheer black tights with a bright coloured dress and booties. Our wide variety of sheer tights makes it easy to make this look your own. For a classic pair, opt for the Pretty Polly Nylon Tights, with their chic 10 denier weight and gorgeous glossy finish.

Mario Dice showed us a fabulous twist on the classic skin coloured tights, injecting some personality into the look with an edgy geometric pattern. Paired with a black leather romper and bright red statement jacket, the designer opted for the Wolford Stella tights. Love these? Good news- we have the exact tights!

Footless Tights

The Missoni show was filled with footless tights in all colours and patterns, paired with dresses and ankle strap heels. Footless tights are great for both casual daywear and dressing up for nights out. With the warmer weather approaching, footless tights are a perfect pair with sandals or heels. Our Pamela Mann 3d Footless Tights come in 17 different colours, ideal for any occasion!

Au Jour Le Jour went for extremely bold looks this week with patterned tights for every look. Pushing the limits with patterns and colours, these tights really made a statement. Okay, so we know these looks are a little wild and unrealistic, but that doesn’t mean you can’t incorporate some colour into your daily wardrobe.  Pamela Mann gives us a fun, easily wearable take on this colourful look with the Pamela Mann Baroque Tulle Tights, complete with a regal baroque pattern and a choice of three stylish shades. Don’t be afraid of a little pattern!

FASHION WEEK: Tights Highlights from SS15

The month of endless Fashion Week(s) have come and gone. From New York to Paris,  designers from all over showcased their newest designs for Spring/Summer 2015. While we have just gotten into autumn, it is NEVER too early to start thinking about the upcoming trends for this spring. We here at MyTights have all the upcoming tights trends here for you so you can start stocking up early.

New York

Footless Black Tights seemed to be a popular accessory at the Polo Ralph Lauren Show. While these specific tights are paired with pretty white lace dresses and black accessories, these tights can be styled in virtually any way- from dressed up to dressed down.

The Fashion World exploded when Tom Ford gave us lots of legs styled with Black Hold Ups all over his runway in London. Styled with LBD’s, black hold ups are yet another versatile accessory that can easily be brought from day to night with a simple change in hemline.

Still not sure about socks with heels? David Longshaw showed us in London that this trend will be very alive this upcoming spring by pairing pretty socks with heels on all of his models. This trend is perfect for early spring/late fall when you want to still wear your strappy sandals without having your toes get too cold. Protection and style, what more could you ask for!?

Giamba donned all her models in white spotty tights on her runway in Milan. While we do not have white spots in stock (they have been dully noted though), black will work just as well with this trend. Take Giamba’s advice and do not be afraid to mix the spots with more spots or floral patterns.

Dolce and Gabbana shared lots of hosiery trends on their runway. My personal favorite was floraly, lacy knee high socks. These socks can be very versatile and compliments almost any outfit. Pair with strappy sandals to wear when the weather isn’t quite warm enough.

Jean Paul Gaultier said au revoir to his ‘ready to wear’ career by pulling off the most outrageously fun fashion show of Paris Fashion Week- I was extremely jealous of this ‘beauty pageant’. Many of his models were clothed in coloured tights. Pair with anything from denim shorts to a LBD as these tights are very versatile.

Last, but definitely not least: Louis Vuitton also stepped onto the tights bandwagon this year by dressing his models in lace tights. Do not be afraid to pair these tights with a pattered dress like Louis Vuitton did, it looks wonderfully fun!

Laura’s Leggings: The Ultimate Guide to All Things Footless

falke-cotton-touch-footless_1Whilst leggings will never occupy the same space in my heart devoted to tights, I can’t help but notice they are selling like hot cakes of late, which is why I have thrown in my two-penneth on the subject and come up with a round-up of the best footless tights and leggings, whatever the occasion…

Classic styles will take you from day to night with ease and go with pretty much everything you own. So when the wind is howling and the rain is lashing against the windows, reach for the Pretty Polly 200D Fleecy Thermal Opaque Footless Tights, which boast a sumptuously thick 200 denier design and a fleecy lining to keep you extra warm and comfortable.  However, if it’s multi-coloured legs you crave, the Pamela Mann 3D Footless Tights are available in over 15 shades at an exceedingly purse friendly price! They also come in a plus size version, but if you find the Pamela Mann 50D Plus Size Footless tights a little too light, you could also take a look at the Cette London Plus Size Leggings for a comfortable fit for curves in a 60 denier.

For extra comfort the Falke Cotton Touch Footless Leggings contain high levels of cotton, keeping them breathable and cosy. Super soft, these luxurious leggings will keep your legs warm on even the bitterest winter mornings and provide a great fit. But if you’re the type of girl who wants it all, you will adore the Spanx Look at Me Cotton Leggings, which contain an impressive 64% cotton that is extra thick for superior coverage – plus, with the tried and tested technology that has made Spanx a global name, these leggings will trim any tummy and shape that bum.

If after all these choices, you’re wondering what is the difference between leggings and footless tights? Well, the simple answer is thickness! Leggings tend to be thicker than footless tights and this means that you can wear them under a shorter top.

I adore products that prove that there is no need to sacrifice comfort for elegance. Perfect for the workplace or an elegant evening look, the Trasparenze Lituania Leggings provide both in spades thanks to their matte finish and range of classic colours. When you are dressing up for one of those extra special occasions, the Trasparenze Push Up Leggings are an excellent choice. This magical pair lifts and enhances your derrière, leaving you looking stunning in that slim fitting dress.

If you are after an all-encompassing coverage for bums, tums and thighs and want to make sure that your silhouette stays seamless, then the Spanx Ready-to-Wow Structured Leggings are divine. Providing stronger control, you can wear these deluxe leggings as trousers thanks to their super thick design – with all the in-built benefits of Spanx. The thick generous waistband and medium level of control means that they will feel comfortable to wear all day, and no centre seam ensures that no unsightly lines ruin your outfit.

jonathanaston-polar-mainPrefer your legwear to make more of a statement? Fashion followers take heed, the Pamela Mann Leather Look Leggings are ideal for providing that leather look that is tipped to be on-trend in SS14. These leggings are very Olivia Newton-John, however, we recommend matching these lovely leggings with a fluffy white jumper instead of a full leather jumpsuit à la Olivia!

If snakeskin is the one that you want, the Trasparenze Mystery Leggings feature a subtle snakeskin effect. To complete the whole animal kingdom (and if you’re feeling particularly brave) we also have Pamela Mann Leopard Footless Tights, in a bold monochrome design. After something to help you stand out from the crowd on a Friday night? Our Wet Look Leggings by Pamela Mann are for you. Sublime and shiny these leggings would match perfectly with black high patent heels for a glamorous, head turning look. A glittery alternative for disco worthy legs are the Pamela Mann Lurex Highball Footless Tights – perfect for fans of all things that glimmer and shine.

I find Spanx’s range of leggings absolutely sublime for the gym, and the Spanx Active Bottoms Shaping Compression Close Fit Pant allows me to keep fit in style. Their medium control ensures keeps us feeling comfortable and svelte during exercise, providing plenty of flexibility – after all that is pretty important on the treadmill! The moisture wicking technology makes sure that you stay comfortable and hygienic while you work out, and the icing on the cake (or granola bar) is the curved seam for a flattering shape.
sparkly-footless-tightsFor a similar look and feel but with shorter length, I would suggest the Spanx Active Bottoms Shaping Compression Knee Pant – a little more palatable for when the sun finally makes an appearance.

Last but definitely not least, the Country Kids Capri Tights are suitable for kids from 3-11. They contain high levels of exquisite Pima cotton for both comfort and quality and are available in a range of colours including pretty pastels. Or if your little princess is more of a disco diva, obsessed by all things that glimmer, the Country Kids Sparkly Footless Tights will most definitely impress even her discerning eye.

So whether you love leggings for sport or for fashion, for the office or just for the kids, there is definitely something here for everyone – even myself!

Until next week…

We’ve got a crush on Liv Tyler!

Whether you adore Liv from her time spent as a rebellious daughter aboard an oil rig during apocalyptic blockbuster Armageddon (pass the tissues please) or you know her best from her role as part-Elven Arwen from Lord of the Rings, there’s one thing that’s pretty clear cut. We have a crush on Liv’s legwear!

Showing us all how to work hosiery in the Big Apple, the raven haired beauty took to the streets of New York on her 36th birthday, teaming her floral romper with a pair of oh so chic black footless tights. Flaunting her never ending long legs, it seems that Liv has given us a serious case of hosiery envy back at MyTights HQ, leaving us searching for the perfect new addition for our wardrobes…

Liv Tyler

From plain to patterned, demure to daring, there’s bound to be a pair for every occasion. If like Liv you adore flirty hemlines but fancy a little more coverage during the day, footless tights are just the ticket. Offering the same lightweight feel and look as your opaque tights & sheers but with the versatility of no feet, footless tights are a hosiery drawer must have. What’s more, they go under just about everything and anything, transforming oversized jumpers and tees into acceptable dresses and even acting a secret layer underneath trousers when the chill sets in.

To get Liv’s exact look, treat your legs to the 3D Footless Tights from Pamela Mann. With just the right amount of opaque, the soft & stretchy fabric reveals just a sneak peek of leg below. Ideal for styling with rompers and playsuits a la Liv, the Pamela Mann footless tights add a little touch of demure to even the shortest of hemlines. For a dressed down day time style, take note from Liv and wear your footless tights with sweet ballet pumps and matching cardigan but when the sun goes down, experiment with sky high heels and an elegant cocktail dress.

For those with an adventurous streak, we’ve got just the footless tights for you. Packed full of safari chic and big cat charm, the Leopard Footless Tights from Pamela Mann work to inject a little fun into an otherwise understated outfit. With the lack of feet making sure that anything from peep toes to pumps is possible, these will keep your hosiery dreams alive for more than one season. To keep your look as far away from fancy dress as possible, avoid any other animal print, instead introducing a small heart or polka print for a nod to Burberry’s AW13 collection. C’est chic!

And of course, whilst some of you may stick religiously to your head to toe uniform of black, we understand that there are some rainbow worshipers out there who would adore a colour pop. Transforming dreams into a colourful reality, Italian brand Trasparenze have created the Dorella Footless Leggings. Available in more colours than there are days to wear them, the 70 denier footless leggings come in a range of fabulous shades, from the neon brights to jewelled tones. Even better, these are perfect for taller ladies (just like Liv!), as the stretchy fabric stretches up to 6’1”.

So with more than enough options to get your footless collection off the ground, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more fashion inspo from the lovely Liv!

Festival Fever

Wellies? Check. Baby wipes? Check. Backstage pass? Okay so I may not be able to help you with the last one, but the time has arrived to start prepping for a summer packed full of festivals and outdoor concerts. Whether it’s on homegrown soil or further afield, getting your outfit down to a T is a must, particularly if you’re heading to somewhere in good old Blighty. Come rain or shine, festival chic is a must have, and so I’ve rounded up a few tricks to ensure that you remain picture perfect all weekend long.

Adored and adorned by festival goers every year, wearing the right leg wear is about as important as remembering your ticket. Mud, grass and rain go hand in hand when it comes to festivals, so your trusty socks and tights will fast become your closest ally (bar the burger van). Soggy feet and chilly ankles have the potential to turn a good day upside down and back to front, so regardless of where you are pitching up and calling home for the weekend, take heed of some invaluable outfit pointers.

Going to Glastonbury?

More of a small town than a festival, Glastonbury has the potential to overwhelm even the most direction savvy of us. Given that it takes a good few hours to walk from one end to the other, comfy footwear is a must. After securing a decent pair of boots, chunky socks should be next on the list. Over the knee socks, ribbed or patterned, the list is endless. The usual rule of thumb tends to dictate that the thicker your socks, the happier your feet. Bearing in mind that you may get a little wet stood in the middle of Somerset, knee or over the knee length is a necessity. Working to protect both feet & footwear, along with acting like a cosy layer for bare legs, you’ll soon notice that aches are reduced and blisters are non-existent. For a goes-with-everything over the knee sock, dress your pins in the Trasparenze Dora Over The Knee Socks. Gorgeously soft and available in a range of shades, the faint ribbed detail adds a little interest. Stretching to above the knee, these are the perfect length to complement those denim cut offs.

Over Knee Socks

Fancy a colour pop? Perfect for when the sky is grey and everything around you is caked in mud, an injection of colour into outfits is the easiest way to make sure you stand out amongst the crowd. Not forgetting that Glasto is the birthplace of bohemian, all things rainbow tinted are embraced, from teepees to the waterproof ponchos. For your pick of the colour wheel, I can’t recommend the Cinzia Knee High Socks from Trasparenze enough. Made in almost every shade imaginable, the purse friendly price means you can even bring along a few pairs. Hugging your knees for a secure fit, these will peek over the tops of wellies and boots for a sweet touch. If, like me, you fancy showing off the full extent of your hosiery collection, there’s no reason why you can’t get a little creative with your patterns. The self-titled American ‘Print-cess’, Celeste Stein, have just about every design fathomable, from whimsical florals to patriotic flags. To embrace your inner hippy, treat pins to the A Powers Flowers Tights from the brand. Ideal for jazzing up understated dresses and keeping legs mud-free in the process, you’re bound to collect a few compliments as you make your way around.

Urban chic in the concrete jungle?

So you’ve politely declined the invitation to go camping/attend a barn dance/hiking and you’ve managed to convince everyone to stay in the comfort of the Big Smoke…but what on earth do you wear? Whilst waders and waterproofs may be acceptable deep in the English countryside, you’ll be hard pushed to find a mud slide in Hyde Park. For those lucky enough to go to London’s biggest music festival, Wireless, a wardrobe rethink may be in order. Out with outlandish patterns and in with urban chic as the bare legged look and quirky designs take over.

I’m sure as many of you know, I can’t champion the Falke Shelina Tights enough. Great for faking that no hosiery style, you can also cheat your way to that sun kissed glow (without having to leave the country!). With all shades reviewed by a dermatologist to help find the closest match, others will be left marveling at your brave choice to go without tights. Without a brief to make you reconsider hemlines and a realistic slight sheen finish, I love wearing these under shift dresses and teaming with my trusty ballet flats. Of course, no festival in London is complete without a tempestuous looking weather forecast, so luckily the bare leg look quickly adapts, with temperature regulating properties keeping you both refreshed in the sunshine and then warm when the temperature drops.

Of course, it goes without saying that London festivals are a natural habitat for young & emerging talent. From fashion designers to musicians, you can hardly walk two paces without witnessing a new trend unfolding. To show off your fashion credentials, anything by Henry Holland goes. Ahead of the polka dot trend that’s set to hit catwalks and high streets alike this season, the Reverse Polka Dot Tights are just the ticket. A favourite of mine, these go with and under just about everything. Showing off just a glimpse of leg beneath, these will take you from the main stage to the bar effortlessly. Likewise, the Suspender Tights from the young designer should be at the top of your festival wish list. Top Tip: If like me you adore eye catching hosiery but want to keep your look elegant, make sure that the rest of your outfit remains understated and pattern free. By keeping accessories minimal and your colour palette clean, you’ll soon have a chic look that you can wear to work.  Styled with a simple wrap dress and Chelsea boots, nothing says London cool quite like a cutting edge designer.

Still worried about the weather? For those that can’t stomach the thought of blue lips and the shivers, you’ll be pleased to know that footless tights and leggings are back on the trend barometer this season. From florescent to patterned, there’s bound to be a pair for any and every occasion. So whether you’re after a secret layer or a playful touch to an understated dress or skirt, be sure to include a few pairs in your weekend bag.

Phew! I’ve got festival fatigue just thinking about it!

Holiday Hosiery

So you’re escaping the rain and sporadic sunshine

for sunnier climes?  Lucky you.  However, before you dash off with just 3 bikinis and a pair of flip flops in your case, have a think about packing some hosiery.  Yes, we know what you’re thinking, hosiery is the last thing you’ll be needing when you’re sunbathing in 30°c, but you’d be surprised!  Here’s the hosiery you need, whatever type of holiday you’re off on…

No, we’re not going to try to convince you that you need to wear tights, but guaranteed sunshine is the perfect time to try out the ankle socks trend – that way you know you won’t end up shivering and wishing you’d worn opaques instead!  Footless tights are also ideal for balmy evenings as they are sheer enough to keep you cool but give a little coverage, PLUS you can still wear your flip flops!

If you’re off on a citybreak, what you pack obviously depends very much on where you’re going.  But if you’re off somewhere warm, sheers will keep your legs looking flawless.  If you’re going to be out exploring all day, hold ups or crotchless tights will help you to stay cool, or try over the knee socks for a stylish look that will stop you from getting hot and bothered.

Ski season is pretty much done for the next few months but if you’re lucky enough to be jetting further afield to hit the slopes, you’re going to need to stay cosy warm.  Wool tights are the order of the day – try a vibrant colour like red or green for something a little different that will help you hit the slopes in style.

Homeland Holiday

With so much going on in the UK this year, we don’t blame you if you’ve chosen to holiday in the land of Hope and Glory.  And although you’d be well advised to pack for cooler weather thanks to our unpredictable weather, we think you can probably get away with sheers most of the time.  Try bold colour to get that holiday vibe – yellow tights and hot pinks might not be the most conventional look but the shades are cutting edge and will make you feel as though you’re holidaying in a tropical paradise.

Have we convinced you?  Whatever you pack and wherever you’re off to, have a great time.  We’ll see you when you get back- just in time for the Autumn fashion!
