Coachella Looks: Sheer + Geometrics a la Kylie Jenner!

Kylie Jenner with Tyga and Khloe Kardashian

Kylie Jenner with Tyga and Khloe Kardashian

Fashionista, socialite, and famous for her perfect pouty lips, Kylie Jenner has done it again with her recent Coachella outfit. In case you’re not familiar, Coachella is the go-to festival for the style and music elite, full of eye-catching outfits and the obligatory flower crowns.  Still just a mere 17-years old, Kylie Jenner showed up to the festival with her sister Khloe and rumoured boyfriend Tyga in an outfit that was far from understated. Grabbing all of the media attention, here sheer and figure-hugging leotard was layered over a black bra and high-waisted knickers. Paired with stylish black lace-up gladiator heels to complete the look, the leotard boasted a gorgeous geometric pattern, as well as seams which emphasized her curvy figure to a tee.

While wearing a full sheer body suit might be out of the question for an everyday trip to the shops, nailing the trend for geometrics and seams couldn’t be easier. Here’s how to pull off a bold style statement a la Kylie!

Sensational seams

Jonathan Aston Woollies Leggings

Jonathan Aston Woollies Leggings

In the 1960s, nylons worn by women were knitted flat then sewn together to create a long seam running up the back of the leg. Now, these tights are knitted in a circle, thus eliminating the need of a long seam. But fret not if you’re a fan, this classic vintage look is enjoying a fashion resurgence of late, so you can all try out the trend for yourself. Try the Wolford Flavia Tights that feature a sheer 15 denier look with a slender zig-zag backseam. These tights will create a subtle sexy finish to your outfit whether you’re wearing a LBD or a trendy dress. For a more classic backseam, try the Moulin Rouge High Heels Tights for with their elegant slender seam and tapered Cuban heel.

Trend-alert: Geometry isn’t for class anymore

Geometric lines and patterns are a huge trend right now for spring and summer. Fishnets, stripes, and bold prints are all the rage for fashion tights to construct a confident and sexy OOTD. If you want to emulate Kylie’s fashionable Coachella look, take a look at the Wolford Stella Tights and Jonathan Aston Woollies Leggings, or how about the Wolford Juliette Tights? With a geometric design alternating from sheer to opaque, these styles are guaranteed to turn heads.

For the love of sheer

Levante Seamless Sheer Hold Up

Levante Seamless Sheer Hold Up

Sheer black tights are a staple in creating a subtle sexy and smoothing look. A black 15-denier nylon look adds allure and sophistication to your legs while leaving the perfect amount of skin to show off. If you’re looking to match Kylie’s sexy sheer look, go for the Wolford Individual 10 Tights with their exquisitely soft finish and host of luxury features. Or why not check out our sheer hold ups while you’re at it? The Levante Seamless Sheer Stay Up are the perfect choice.

Laura’s Choice: Street Style

It’s official: the whole world is wearing hosiery! From high-profile celebrities through to normal folk on the street, I’ve noticed a huge surge in the number of people accessorising their outfits with tights, leggings and socks in recent months. And if the recent catwalk shows are anything to go by, the hosiery takeover doesn’t look like it’s going to end anytime soon. In fact, they were so popular on the runway that every single model at Diane von Furstenberg’s New York show wore a pair of gorgeous spotty sheers. If that isn’t evidence enough, then I don’t know what is! It’s no secret that the people of London are a seriously stylish bunch, so we took the opportunity to mark the hosiery domination, taking to the streets this week to see what the Great British public have been wearing on their legs. And you certainly didn’t disappoint. Here’s our round up of our favourite street style looks and how you can recreate them at the drop of a hat…

Taking it back to basics: the classic opaque

???????????????????????????????

Aristoc 50D Opaque Tights

Aristoc 50D Opaque Tights

Bold patterns and prints are all well and good, but if your outfit itself is rather busy, only a pair of classic opaques will do. We spotted this lovely lady at Victoria Rail Station, accessorising a stripy cropped tee, denim skirt and black boots with her trusty black opaque tights. Showing us all just how versatile your basics can be, you can recreate the look with the Aristoc 50D Opaque Tights, which are a great middle ground between everyday value and quality manufacture. Just £9 a pair but with enough quality to warrant a much higher price tag in my opinion, they’re also made in a 30D version for when the sun has his hat on. Or if you’re in the market for something a little more high-end, my favourite opaques are the Falke Seidenglatt 70 Tights, with a gorgeous glossy finish and choice of 4 colours. Highly recommended!

Fashionista? Say it with patterned leggings

???????????????????????????????

If you’re the kind of person who likes to stand out and grab the style crown with both hands, patterned leggings should be your port of call. Ideal for jazzing up an otherwise basic outfit, they’re comfortable, flattering and most importantly, enjoying a real fashion moment of late. Feeling inspired? So were this fashion-forward twosome. Beginning with the geometric pair below, our eyes were immediately drawn to her quirky monochrome legwear, which she teamed with a distressed leather jacket and statement tee. If you’re a fan of this effortlessly stylish look, mirror her ensemble in the Oroblu Butterfly Leggings, with their unusual butterfly print and mix of eye-catching colours.

???????????????????????????????

From one great pair of leggings to another, any budding rock chicks should take note of the vampy ensemble above. Pairing an oversized black tee with burgundy boots, our favourite part of her look was without doubt her shiny paint splattered leggings.  What do you think? If you’re as taken by her legwear as us, copy the trend with the Pamela Mann Leather Look Leggings, with their maximum impact mock leather finish befitting of Kate Moss herself. Or to add a splash of colour to an all black outfit, the Trasparenze Graphium Leggings are just the ticket, boasting a pretty paisley print and choice of two colour combinations.

Bored of your sheers? Nets are the answer

The title for #1 legwear look that we came across on our travels has to go to the gorgeous net tights sported by the lovely lady below. I’ve always been a huge fan of net tights, a) because they’re so incredibly versatile (I layer mine over sheers to make them work all year round) and b) because they’re just so much more interesting than plain styles. Teaming her floral patterned nets with a summery dress and lace up boots, this look was the perfect way to welcome in all the glorious sunshine we’ve been enjoying of late. Luckily, we have just the pair on hand to recreate this style in the form of the Oroblu Elaine Tights, made from a fine tulle base and being covered in elegant floral motifs that ascend up the leg. Or for something a little quirkier, treat yourself to the Jonathan Aston Oxygen Tights, with an unusual net design reminiscent of the art-deco period.

Sartorially speaking, Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson barely puts a foot wrong. Whether showcasing her envious figure on the red carpet or strolling through Tinseltown, she just has a knack of always getting it right. So we were less than surprised this week when she was pictured arriving at the Jimmy Kimmel Studios in Hollywood looking suitably glam. Can you believe she gave birth just SIX months ago?! Wearing a figure hugging sleeveless top with a plaid skirt with leather waistband, the star completed her flattering look in a pair of gorgeous sheer tights. Okay, so Scarlett herself might be in America, but with the glorious weather we’ve been enjoying of late, Scarlett’s got us thinking. Patterned Tights Beneath Ripped Jeans? It Might Just Work…

Oroblu Elaine Tights

Oroblu Elaine Tights

Here at MyTights, we love nothing more than saving a bit of cash when it comes to fashion. Always keen to hear of new ways to update our look without spending so much that we’re forced to live off bread and water until payday comes around, we were thrilled when we came across these top tips from influential fashion blogger Lily Melrose. Shared with the readers of the Daily Mail, the talented blogger revealed her 15 favourite style hacks for making the best of what you have and making your 2014 pieces suitable for 2015.

Amongst a number of gems, one such idea left us feeling particularly inspired. Recognising the hot trend for ripped jeans, Lily suggested cutting a rip in your trusty jeans just above the knee cap for a distressed and laid back look. Not content with leaving it there however, for extra style points, the blogger recommended layering a pair of funky patterned tights underneath! We like her thinking. In fact, we’re so taken with the idea, we’ve been busily compiling a list of potential tights to perfect the look before we get home and reach for the fabric scissors. Want to get in on the action? Take a look at our favourite patterns for nailing this trend…

Pamela Mann Sheer Faces Tights

Pamela Mann Sheer Faces Tights

If it’s a vintage boho-inspired look you’re after, it simply has to be florals. We imagine the trend looking best in bright colours, so with this in mind we recommend trying out the Oroblu Elaine Tights in Avio, a dusty blue/purple shade. You might have noticed that one of the big trends for this season is spots, so why not try out wearing dots beneath your jeans? Our top pick are the Pamela Mann Sheer Dotty Tights, or the more adventurous amongst you might like to try out the wacky larger dots of the Wolford Leonie Tights. For a particularly novel take on the trend, how about opting for the Pamela Mann Sheer Faces Tights, with their smiley (and not so smiley!) faces on the knees?

You don’t have to stick to just patterns either. A pair of coloured tights will look equally as funky, so how about trying one of the brighter shades in the Jonathan Aston 40D Opaque Tights? The velvet green and violet would be perfect!

Do you have any other great tips when it comes to wearing tights? We’d love to hear them!

Laura’s Choice: Top Patterned Picks!

Oroblu Bouquet Leggings

Oroblu Bouquet Leggings

Apparently, us women wear just 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time, and as much as it pains me to say it, I have to admit that I’m no exception. While there’s nothing wrong with having a capsule collection, it’s a real shame that that dress we simply HAD to have during an impromptu splurge will never see the light of day. One of the main reasons for our clothes languishing in our wardrobe is not knowing how to make them pop, particularly with plainer styles. Sure, they might look rather boring on the hanger, but working amongst hosiery 24/7 has taught me exactly how to make plainer styles work. The answer? Patterns. From head-turning geometrics to delicate florals, there’s no better way to rack up the style points, and my round-up of my favourite prints below means that nobody has to miss out.

FLORALS

Why florals?: delicate and understated, florals are perennially chic and add a feminine twist for any occasion.

Fashions have a habit of coming and going, but florals have dug their heels into the ground and stubbornly stayed put. If you’re looking for a classic floral print, take a look at the Charnos Opaque Flower Tights. Made in a semi-opaque 40 denier (ideal for this time of year, FYI), the mix of roses and leaves, can be dressed up or down, while the inclusion of a sheer toe adds the versatility factor. If something a little bit quirky is on your radar, cast your eyes over the Jonathan Aston Spontaneity Tights, reinventing the trend for seams with a vibrant pink floral seam stretching along the outside leg. Completing my floral trio are the Oroblu Bouquet Leggings, brand new to MyTights and doing exactly what they say on the tin (well, packet). Stretchy leggings covered in an array of colourful flowers, opt for these if you’re after stand out appeal that will from AM to PM.

GEOMETRICS

Why geometrics?: life is taken too seriously, so why not mix things up a bit with some edgy geometrics, which just so happen to be having something of a fashion moment…

You may not have worn geometrics before, and understandably so. After all, they’re a far cry from your classic black opaques, but there really is nothing more effective for jazzing up your basics and making things look as good as new. My favourites are the Jonathan Aston Magma Tights, which have a swarm of rectangles and opaque motifs randomly scattered across a 10 denier leg. They’re fun, quirky and entirely affordable, what’s not to love? To really take things up a notch, the particularly fashion-forward amongst us might want to take a look at the Wolford Stella Tights. These very tights featured in the Mario Dice collection at Milan Fashion Week, and it’s simple to see why they made the cut, with a striking graphic design on the outside leg, not to mention the mock hold up band. Not wanting to limit the geometric trend to just tights, your feet can join in on the action too with the Charnos 3PP Geometric Trainer Liners. One stripe, one check and one chevron – three times the style!

SPOTS

Charnos Geo Spot Tights

Charnos Geo Spot Tights

Why spots?: offering a sweet style for day or night, you’ll also be in the sartorial company of the likes of Anne Hathaway and woman of the moment Taylor Swift.

Spots are always near the front of my hosiery drawer. I love how they can transform even the simplest of dresses , without being too busy to mean they’re limited to more informal events. First things first, I’d like to introduce you to the Oroblu Adelle Tights, a classic pair of polkadot tights that I find myself turning to on a weekly basis. Proving that sometimes less can be more, the dainty dots and sheer base are great for transitioning from the office to the bar. If simple isn’t for you, step into high-fashion territory with the Wolford Leonie Tights. Recognisably Wolford, what you get here is a fashion-forward pair of sheers with larger than life polkadots which get gradually smaller as they ascend up the leg. Great for taking your basics out of a style rut! Mixing two patterns in one, my final pick is the Charnos Geo Spot Tights, which have all the credentials of polkadot tights but with a subtle diamond print that sits pretty in the background.

Give that other 80% a chance; patterns are all you need to boost your wardrobe and add a new dimension to the simplest of styles.

Until next time…

Try Out Stockings à la Madonna & Taylor Swift!

Madonna & Taylor in their fab stockings!

Madonna & Taylor in their fab stockings!

Aristoc Sensuous 10D Lace Top Stockings

Aristoc Sensuous 10D Lace Top Stockings

We love nothing more than when two of our favourite music stars join forces; it always makes for a brilliant pop song. Eminem and Rihanna, Nelly & Kelly, the list goes on. Now it’s the turn of none other than Madonna and Taylor Swift to set the airwaves alight and produce a new song that we’ll undoubtedly have in our heads for months to come. Performing their much anticipated single Ghost Town at the iHeartMusic Radio Awards, it seems that it’s not just musical talent that the pair have in common, with both the undisputed queen of pop and current golden girl Swift performing in matching stockings!

In her first public performance since THAT fall at the Brit Awards and opting to play it safe and sit on a stool (wise move!), Madonna layered her black stockings over a pair of trademark fishnets, finishing off her vampy look with knee high leather boots and a rather odd corseted outfit. Taylor’s outfit, on the other hand, was a slightly more classic affair, wearing her lovely lace top stockings with a sleeveless black dress and knee high lace up boots. Two very different looks with one thing in common, the performance confirmed exactly what we knew – stockings are back. Are you loving their legwear? If you are, MyTights.com have a fantastic array of stockings on offer, be it winter-warming opaques or racy fishnets, so there’s no reason why you can’t replicate it should you wish…

If it’s a classic pair of sheer stockings a la Taylor you’re after, a great place to start is with the Aristoc Sensuous 10D Lace Top Stockings. Near on identical to Swifty, the lace top adds instant glamour to your wardrobe, while the slight sheen finish is great for perfecting a polished evening look. Whether you follow Taylor’s lead and opt for an LBD or play it casual in a pair of denim shorts and statement tee, these are a fabulous (not to mention affordable) choice. Looking for something that’s a little more everyday? No problem, simply turn your attention to the brilliant Charnos Elegance Ultra Sheer Stockings, a case of the name speaking for itself, with their classic plain top and understated sheen. Great for the office, they’ll only set you back £6.25 a pair.

While we’d suggest accessorising your stockings with something a little more demure than Madonna herself, there’s no denying that her layered fishnet tights added some wow factor to her look. To mirror this, how about treating yourself to the Jonathan Aston Fishnet Stockings? All the sultry appeal of stockings but with a classic fishnet base to get everyone talking, there’s no easier way to give your simple evening wear an edgy twist!

Fallen hook, line and sinker for sultry stockings? Make sure you cast your eyes over our full range!

Jonathan Aston Turn 50!: Sneak Preview…

You may remember back in February that the MyTights team were lucky enough to be invited to an exclusive launch to celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of our favourite brands, Jonathan Aston. Celebrating their big half-centenary by collaborating with acclaimed fashion designers Dame Zandra Rhodes and Celia Birtwell, we were treated to a sneak preview of their works and even got to meet the duo themselves!

Although we wanted to shout what we saw from the rooftops, we were sworn to secrecy, so we’ve (begrudgingly) kept tight-lipped about the small details of the collections until now. While the complete ranges are still somewhat under wraps until their launch in the autumn, the time has come for us to give you another taster of what to expect.  With both of the renowned designers taking the time to chat to specialist retailer’s magazine Drapers, we’re here to give you hosiery lovers another insight into how they’ve integrated their unique personalities into the hosiery market.

Rhodes press

Starting with Zandra Rhodes (so famous she was recently made a Dame), we promised you her trademark peacock feathers and plenty of colour, and that’s abundantly clear in the Draper’s piece. We love how Zandra has brought her quirky sense of style to tights and socks, and we can’t wait to start stocking these come the autumn, so watch this space.

Moving onto the ever lovely Celia Birtwell, you might remember we made reference to her pet dog, so dear to her he has his own Twitter account. Well, low and behold, here he is, taking pride of place in the article, which also gave us a sneak peek of his appearance in her collection. Pooches side, we hope you also appreciate her use of vintage prints, which we’ll no doubt be rocking on a daily basis come the autumn! Here’s MyTights.com founder Laura alongside Celia and trying out her gorgeous Jacobean Tights. Like what you see?
