Trend Alert: Camouflage meets glamour!

Yes, that?s rights ladies, you read that right. But we?re not talking head to toe and we?re certainly not talking about SOS accessories either. But folding chairs and tents aside, it appears that the meant-to-blend pattern has quickly become one of the hottest microtrends this season. And whilst camo-print tights may be taking it a step too far (remember you still have to make that commute ? twice), we?ve rounded up our pick of hosiery which will complete any glamo (camouflage + glamour) ensemble with ease. Hooray!

First off is khaki. Less harsh and at times more flattering than black, the must have military tone is perfect for teaming underneath camo inspired coats and dresses without taking away from your overall look. The self-titled Queen of Shops agrees too, with Mary Portas incorporating a ?Cool Khaki? shade into her Almost Opaque 40 Tights. With subtle dark grey tones throughout, the luxurious looking tights remain demure enough for both work and play whilst providing their fair share of camo accents. Worried about staying snug and stylish? Making it easy to work the microtrend when the weather is having an off day, the cosy Gennifer Merino Wool Tights from Trasparenze are just the ticket. Created using a gorgeous merino wool mix, these are available in both a forest Bosco green and lighter, taupe Noisette tone. Given that both make an appearance on the camo-colour spectrum, legs & hosiery drawers are left spoilt for choice, a problem that we don?t mind having on Monday mornings. To style, earn chic points with a quilted shift dress and chunky cut out boots, leaving your thick tights to deliver the glamo factor.

Of course, you can?t pay homage to the world of camouflage without giving special mention to net ? fishnet in particular. Utility chic at its best, fishnets are a hassle free compromise between fashion & functionality, quickly proving to be a must have for all hosiery drawers. A big contender on the style radar already, clock up fashion brownie points by stepping into earthy toned nets, much like the Pamela Mann Fishnet Tights. Available in a bottle green and chocolate brown (alongside every other colour in the rainbow), these will look great teamed with a leather skirt and simple tee. After more fishnet fun? Take your hosiery credentials up a notch with Mary Portas & Charnos Fishnet Armery. A definite nod to the 90?s glam grunge trend, the netted sleeves are great for layering underneath shorter sleeves and over sleeveless dresses (these are also fab for those who aren?t in love with their arms!).

So there you have it ladies, camouflage made chic. Love it or loathe it? Whatever you decide, just remember to keep the war paint at home…

For the special lady in your life…Mother’s Day.

She’s made you endless sandwiches, mopped up every tear, listened to every moan & groan and still remembers the way you like your tea. The unsung hero of our day to day lives, it’s now time to give a little back to the main woman in our lives – our mother.

I’m using this as the perfect opportunity to spoil mine rotten and if like me, you want to treat her to something a bit special, hosiery is the way forward this Mother’s Day. I think it’s safe to say that the appeal of manically traipsing up and down high streets has been lost on me, so I couldn’t think of anything more blissful than shopping on my sofa with a cup of tea in one hand (a dash of milk, no sugar thanks mum!). Whether you live home or away, that thoughtful gift is a click of a button away, eliminating any department store induced stress at the same time.

If your mother is a fan of all things fancy but categorically refuses to buy if for herself, then why not choose some Wolford? Both gorgeous and luxurious, the Wolford Tulip Tights are great for adding a spring into her step, just in time for the weather to warm up. With a charming tulip print throughout, these look sweet when teamed with that dress you got her for Christmas.

For mothers who prefer a more practical gift, then the Falke Seidenglatt 70 Tights are the answer. As one of my personal favourites, I can vouch for the opaque tights, delivering function alongside fashion with every wear. Made in 7 fabulous shades, there is a colour for the fussiest of mums out there, and the thick tights will protect her pins from any leftover chill in the air.

Like Mother, Like Daughter? Excluding any ensemble worn between the ages of 12-21, my mother has always been a fan of my wardrobe, and of course, my hosiery collection. In order to stop one of my new favourites going amiss, these Mary Portas & Charnos Baroque Floral Tights are a must! Created by the Queen of Shop herself, Mary Portas, these come in three beautiful shades, with a subtle metallic thread adding a touch of luxe shimmer.

For mums who know their Blu-ray from their Bluetooth, then the latest textile technology may just appeal. Look no further than the new Charnos Emana Control Tights. Made with the unique Emana yarn, these will make her feel good along with looking great.Working to get the blood circulation of your legs going, legs are left glowing, whilst the clock is turned back on any unwanted ageing signs. Featured in the Financial Times, these are the pair to get her & her friends gossiping over!

Now, mums can sometimes be a stubborn bunch, refusing any sort of gift other than a homemade pasta shapes card (yes, sometimes we like to get the PVA glue out), but we’ve got just the thing to get around that. By re-marketing your gift as a top up of ‘everyday essentials’, she can hardly refuse. Falke Shelina Tights should be right at the top of the list, as they are mine. Spring has crept up rather quickly, so soon rainy, blustery days will be replaced with sunshine. With that comes shorter hemlines and the need for Kate Middleton barely there sheers. The Shelina Tights offer coverage and peace of mind, as the illusion of flawless legs is created – a favourite in the office as well!

And for those ankles? It’s not unknown that some of us prefer the little things in life, and this applies to mothers too. From the everyday cotton numbers, to the more luxurious cashmere, there is a pair for all! As we’re currently stuck in a tricky transitional month weather-wise, socks are great when worn under boots. For me, nothing says love more than cashmere socks, so the Pantherella Candy Knee Highs are going straight into my shopping basket for her. The cashmere makes them wonderfully soft against the leg, redefining comfort every time they’re pulled on, whilst the fresh Spring shades bring a little light to any rainy day. If you know she won’t wear a knee high boot, try the shorter Pantherella Candy Anklet version which packs just as much charm.dleton barely there sheers. The Shelina Tights offer coverage and peace of mind, as the illusion of flawless legs is created – a favourite in the office as well!

For those that are all fingers and thumbs when it comes to wrapping presents, MyTights can take care of that for you. Simply select the gift wrap option on

the checkout page and voila! A beautifully wrapped present will arrive through the post, and we don’t even mind if you want to take credit…

So there you have it! Spoiling her has never been so simple and your preparation in the run up to Mother’s Day shall remain hassle free. Hooray!

Until next time…

Our Favourite Hosiery Moments of 2012

As the year end approaches, everyone is winding down and reflecting on the year just past – not least us.  We’ve spent the week pondering our favourite (tights-related, naturally) moments of 2012…

1)      Kristen Stewart Shows off her Spanx Shapewear

Accidentally flashed her control underwear while on the Jay Leno show giving an

interview, making mere mortals everywhere breathe a sigh of relief.  Celebs are as self conscious as we are, it seems, as lots of other stars came out of the shapewear underwear closet in the year, including X Factor judge Tulisa and Katy Perry, who are both said to favour the shaping underwear over hard exercise and diet.  Ladies after our own hearts – and you can get the look with our range of Spanx UK products!

2)      Little Mix – Just Generally!

The winners of last year’s X Factor have taken over from Jessie J as the unofficial face of funky tights this year.  We’ve lost count of how many times we’ve squealed in delight over some of the hot legwear styles they’ve rocked over the past 12 months.  It all started with those personalised

Henry Holland tights (we are still green with envy) and now the girls are our favourite legwear advocates.  Keep up the good work, girls!

3)      Mary Portas launches her range of Control Tights

Retail guru Mary Portas had a hugely successful launch last year of her range of hosiery and armery in 2011, and in 2012 she followed it up with a collection of shaping control tights.  Including 2 fashion designs, not only did she put an end to the choice between fashion and comfort – she loved them so much she wore them every night on Channel 4’s Hotel GB.

Remember, remember, the 19th of October…

…Because it’s National Stockings Day!

Now don’t get us wrong, we love wearing tights. They’re easy, versatile and we don’t even know they’re there half the time. But there’s just getting away from the fact that stockings are the ultimate hosiery choice when you want something super luxe. Yes, hold ups give a similar feel but for full on retro glamour you need stockings, and what better excuse to work them than National Stockings Day, which is taking place on 19th October?

Charnos hosiery are using the day to raise money for Breast Cancer Care and have organised events in London, Manchester and Glasgow. In the House of Fraser stores on London’s Oxford Street and in Glasglow, troupes of can can dancers will perform; while in Manchester a team of stockings-clad ladies will be storming the city with their collecting tins. » Read more

Mary, Queen of Tights

Retail guru Mary Portas is back on our screens once more with her new joint venture with Gordon Ramsey, Hotel GB. The dynamic duo have teamed up with other celebrities, including Gok Wan and Kim Woodburn, to run a hotel with a group of unemployed trainees.

So what does the face of retail wear when on a mission to change Britain? Why, her own range of hosiery, of course! Quite apart from being both a wonderful piece of promotion for her range designed with hosiery brand Charnos, we can see why: her tights are gorgeous.

How refreshing to see a celebrity designer who actually practises what she preaches and wears her own range!

And as she’s worn the Scroll shaper tights in every show so far this week, we think it’s safe to assume she’s not simply wearing them to sell more pairs – she genuinely likes these tights.

Cosmo Recommends Mary Portas’ “Tights of Wonder” from MyTights.com

Well, the fashion team at Cosmo certainly know what they’re talking about.  Which I guess is what you would expect, them being experts in their field, but  too many times we follow the advice of mags and end up looking as though we dressed ourselves in the dark.  In a charity shop.  (One geared towards the elderly generation).

Not this time, though, as Cosmo have recommended the Mary Portas & Charnos “Tights of Wonder” control tights range (supplied by MyTights.com, naturally).  The three styles available – sheer, spotty and chain patterned “Scroll” tights have all got superb inbuilt control.

The boxer brief is where all the magic happens.  A series of knitted-in control bands pull in the tummy, flattening and smoothing your stomach, hips and thighs.  Plus, another band sits just under your bottom to provide a little lift – the tights are shaped to accentuate the curve of your rear without flattening it.

Cosmo recommends the Spotty Style, where as well as an all over figure fixer, you can show off your pins in a classic, ultra-chic design that’ll make you look like a sexy 40s screen siren.  The plain sheer version are perfect for the office or for under formal dresses, while the Scroll pattern is a touch funkier and works well for a fun, striking weekend look.

Cosmo calls them “wonders to add a little lift to your day” and a “body miracle”.  The maker calls them “an instant red carpet figure for real British Women”.  We call them “the ultimate in can’t-live-without accessories.”  And we’ve

no doubt that after trying them, you’ll be calling them “my new best friend”.

Mary's Magically Marvellous New Collection!

Mary Portas is officially our saviour.  The redheaded retail guru has launched new products in her hosiery collaboration with top brand

Charnos, and this time she isn’t only helping us to look great – she’s making us slimmer, too!

“An instant red carpet figure for real British women”, states the tagline for her range of “Tights of Wonder” from the Mary Portas & Charnos collection, and we have to admit we agree wholeheartedly.  The capsule collection contains 3 amazing products, all with a control top boxer brief that targets the big three – flattening the tummy while slimming your hips and thighs and lifting your bottom!  The Scroll Shaper Tights feature a striking chain design for bolder fashionistas, and the Spotty Shaper Tights are great if you like your designs a little subtler (they’re even elegant enough to wear to work!)  If patterned tights just aren’t your thing, there is also a control version of her popular Sheer 10 denier tights which have a classic matte finish and are made from Lycra Fusion Fibres so they

Hosiery of the Year Awards: Part 3

So far this week, we’ve brought you the MyTights Hosiery Awards, with our nominees winning… well, nothing actually.  Never mind.  We’ve already seen Mary Portas pip shapewear giant Spanx to the post for best brand, and all other trends bow down to the mighty suspender tights as the winner of Trend of the Year.

We also saw Kate Middleton unexpectedly take the crown for Trendsetter of the Year, thanks to her love of sheer tights, and teen-brat Taylor Momsen take the trophy for Mess of the Year.  So it’s finally time for the big one: who will be our hosiery icon of the year?

Winner: Jessie J

Honourable Mention: Fearne Cotton

Maybe it was obvious, but we don’t care.  Named as the new face of Pretty Polly, exploding onto the music scene and making everyone fall in love with her were just three of a hundred achievements.  And she did it all wearing some ama

zing hosiery – to get her look, all you need to do is check out the Henry Holland collection…  We can’t wait to see what the next year will bring for the Essex girl.

A worthy runner up, Fearne Cotton turned up at the last moment last week after taking a hiatus from her amazing tights collection.  The DJ and presenter’s love for quirky fashion extends to her weird and wonderful choice of tights, from lace to prints and everything in between with nothing off limits – our kind of girl!

So that’s it for another year!  Here’s to the next twelve months of hosiery, and may we wish all of our customers a very happy new year.

Hosiery of the Year Awards: Rihanna, Kate Middleton and more!

What a year it’s been for celebs and their legs.  In celebration of the fabulous hosiery we’ve seen, talked about and wept over in the last twelve months, we thought we’d bring you a little reminder of the best from the last year: the MyTights.com Hosiery Awards 2011.

We have decided to choose our very favourites from the world of hosiery, from the brand who took our breath away to the trend that got heads turning, and of course, the big one: Hosiery Icon of the Year – the celeb with the best dressed legs around.

Today, we take a look at the best brand and trend of 2011…

Winner: Suspender Tights

Honourable Mention: Spotty Tights

What else could it have been but the classic suspender tights?  The trend was huge when it first hit a few years ago, but this year it has really resurfaced, making its way across the pond end engaging with the American celebs who all embraced it, with the likes of Selena Gomez, Rihanna and Kimberly Wyatt all donning a pair.  It also made its mark as a classic trend when it started spawning adaptations – now, not only can you get the classic Henry Holland Super Suspender tights, you can try out the embellished Pearly, sexy leopard print and pretty floral versions.

Honourable mention goes to the trend for Spotty tights.  The easiest way to rock a print and still look elegant and chic, spots rose

to prominence this year when they were featured all over the Marc Jacobs and Stella McCartney AW11 catwalks.  Thankfully, the trend is set to continue well into the new year, so we can give spotty legs another outing!

Winner: Mary Portas & Charnos

Honourable Mention: Spanx

Congratulations to Mary, Queen of shops.  Not only has she become an adviser to the government on high street commerce, she also launched her own range of clothing, including her collection of hosiery produced in conjunction with leading hosiery brand Charnos.  That alone would have been enough to propel her to top spot- and then came Armery.  The shapewear for your arms exploded onto the scene and was an almost instant sellout, with suppliers struggling to keep up with demand and a very happy group of satisfied customers daring to wear sleeveless dresses for the first time in a very long time.  Even Helen Mirren is a fan! Mary: we salute you.

The honourable mention for Spanx is well deserved.  An enduring shapewear brand adored by celebrities everywhere, only the might of Mary could have knocked it off the top spot.  It seems as though devotees just can’t stop shouting about their love for shapewear – from Danni Minogue to Eva Longoria, everyone has a Spanx addiction.

Don’t forget to check back in a couple of day for more awards, including Trendsetter of the Year (you might be surprised!)

The Guardian Style Gurus Test our Favourite Tights!

Tis the season to be jolly… and very, very cold, unless you wrap your legs up in something toasty warm.  But what hosiery to go for to make sure you stay warm and comfy?  Enter the Guardian, who have conducted a tights test to find out which opaque tights are the best: for looks, comfort and durability.  So what did they think of some of our favourite hosiery?

Mary Portas/Charnos Opaque 40 ( pictured)

“Looks: Very Green.  These drew quite a few glances.  Perfect opacity, though: you could leave your legs unshaven for months and no one would know.

Comfort:  The closest feeling to support tights.  So tight, taking them off felt a little like a liberation.

Durability: Frighteningly good.  No snags.”

MyTights says: We LOVE Mary Portas hosiery.  It always seems to be of the highest quality, and it looks stunning, too.  Don’t worry if green isn’t quite your colour, as these tights come in 8 amazing shades.  As to the comfort, tights should generally feel snug – this will prevent sagging around your ankles.  But make sure you check the size guide for each product to prevent ordering a pair of tights in the wrong size!  We also recommend taking a look at the thicker option: the Mary Portas & Charnos Satin 80 Tights, which are a luxuriously thick 80 denier, and so perfect for wintery days!

cheap cipro

le=”text-decoration: underline;”>Wolford Velvet Deluxe 66

“Looks: Revered among tights: classic matt black, as smart as tights can be.  So special you feel you should wear gloves to put them on.  In confidence terms, the closest hosiery gets to carrying a Chanel bag.

Comfort: Exceedingly Comfortable

Durability:  These were barely on when something sharp hidden in the stair carpet tugged at the underside of my foot and, horror, even before 8am, they were flawed.  The ladder didn’t travel far, though, and they held their own for the rest of the day.  Forgiven.”

MyTights says: High praise indeed, and not undeserved for a pair of tights that, although made by a top class brand, aren’t that expensive on a cost per wear basis (providing you don’t keep sharp things hidden in your carpets, we suppose).  Available in brown, navy and charcoal shades as well as classic black, so there’s a pair for every outfit.

Falke Ribbed Tights

“Looks: A nice woolly, subtly patterned rib: not outlandish, but a change from plain black.

Comfort:  I didn’t think about them all day: a good sign.

Durability: A less good sign: they snagged on the zip of my boots, making a hole.  Slightly stiff after a wash and, disappointingly, for all Falke’s reputation, emerged from the drum a bit bobbly.”

MyTights says: For Falke quality and wintery indulgence, we like the Falke Soft Merino Wool Ribbed Tights.  To prevent wearing out during washing, wash by hand or on a cool wash in the washing machine in a hosiery bag.
