Olivia’s Opaques

Last week, the lovely Olivia Palermo attended the New York reopening of Club Monaco. Her outfit was absolutely flawless – rocking the shorts-and-tights trend with some black opaque tights. A shiny statement necklace and purse really makes this ensemble stand out.

Lucky for you, MyTights.com has a couple of pairs of tights that can help you pull off Olivia’s look, thanks to some new styles from the Italian brand Oroblu. The Oroblu Chantal 120 Tights will give you exactly her look. The matte finish will make it easy to pair with shiny accessories, like Palermo, or a flashy dress. With a warm 120 denier fabric, you’ll be wearing these all winter (thank goodness they come in two colours!).

However, as cold as it’s been in New York lately, it’s not quite winter yet here in the UK. The Oroblu Satin 60 Tights are perfect for now while it’s still autumn. These have a slight sheen to them, so you won’t need to add too many statement accessories in order to stand out.

Both of these tights are super versatile. A simple change of shoes and accessories can take them right from work to the party – and you’re sure to be comfy in them all day!

Black Tights.

Black tights are not only a staple; they’re also a fashion essential.  Forever timeless, and currently loved by celebs. You hardly ever see those fashionistas such as Daisy Lowe, Alexa Chung, or Olivia Palermo (pictured) without a pair of black tights on, they seem to complete their outfits no matter what the occasion. Usually these black opaque tights are seen with denim shorts or cute dresses, with heels or flats, they really are a versatile item that can be worn to both dress up and dress down outfits. We have a wide range of black tights, ranging from sheer to opaque. For super thick Opaques, check out our Matte 200 denier Emilio Cavallini tights, perfect for evenings, work wear, day wear and colder weather!

Or if you like the look of opaques but you’re not so much a fan of super thick 200 denier, try our Wolford Velvet de luxe 66 tights, a pair of gorgeous, super soft, high quality tights.

Or for a sexier evening look, black tights look great in a sheer denier, such as our Pretty Polly Nylons. As a 10 denier pair of tights, they give any legs a gorgeous subtle sheen. Cette’s Brighton tights are also a good option, not super thin, but not too thick either, and are also suitable for day wear and evening wear. Don’t be without a pair of good quality black tights ladies!

It’s a Lace Thing

ELLE Magazine Front Cover – September 2010

ellecover_jaWe knew that lace was back in style BIG TIME, from Edwardiana to the Gypsy Goth look, it’s been sneaking in everywhere. And we also knew that lace tights have been spotted on all the hottest trend-setters, from rock chic’s Peaches Geldoff, Taylor Momsen and Katy Perry, to the polished Olivia Palermo, Leighton Meester and Taylor Swift, and the uber-foxy Megan Fox, but then we saw this…

…Emily Blunt, when did you get so raunchy? The Devil Wears Prada star is just oozing sex appeal in this sensuous chiffon and lace combo. Looking like some sort of naughty Victorian courtesan, Blunt pulls this look off with effortless charm. Elle’s use of more mature contrasting colours, such as nude and black, has ensured that this outfit says both sexy and on-trend, rather than becoming trashy.

So, tossing the beautiful Ms Blunt aside for one second, the real star of the show is of course – drum roll please – Jonathan Aston’s Sweet Roses lace tights, as pictured this September cover of Elle Magazine. With their cut rose-inspired patterning they are elegant, individual, and above all oh-so feminine. Take a look at the whole of Jonathan Aston’s Vintage collection for lace hold ups and ankle socks too!

What’s so good about lace? I hear you cry. Well as much as your relationship with lace thus-far may have only gone as far as admiring your Grandma’s doilies’, or with the fussy bits on your bra – lace is actually a style classic. It’s a timeless way to add some delicate, and pretty charm to an outfit. But let’s not go mental, if you dress yourself in head-to-toe lace you will look like a cake.

Our tip for pulling this look off? JUST ADD A TOUCH, a pair of lovely lace tights with a little black dress is great, show a scandalous amount of leg while retaining your full dignity – perfect!

GET THE LOOK: LACE TIGHTS

Lace tights have been on the fashion radar for a few seasons now, but the eagle-eyed hosiery hunters here at MyTights HQ have noticed a full-scale celebrity obsession developing. From uptown girl Olivia Palermo to rock royalty Pixie Geldof, everyone’s in on it, so if you haven’t investigated lace legwear yet, here’s how to work it into your look.

Our latest drop of Henry Holland tights for Pretty Polly includes this incredible Lace Bodysuit, but you don’t have to have a Lady Gaga moment to make it work for you – it makes a brilliant on-trend base layer under shorts, skirts and dresses. Although if you are taking cues from Lady Gaga, be sure to invest in some Spanx to preserve your modesty and give you a sleek silhouette! If you’re not sure the bodysuit is for you, we’ve also got Henry Holland’s Lace Panel tights. Henry’s added serious edge to classic black lace hosiery with solid black panels down the front of the legs – think Gossip Girl’s Taylor Momsen, the actress and budding rock star who plays rebel Jenny Humphrey, and grunge them up with lace-up boots and a thigh-grazing mini.

Taylor Momsen

At the other end of the Gossip Girl style spectrum ultra-polished Park Avenue princess Blair Waldorf, played by the gorgeous Leighton Meester, has been seen sporting a more demure take on the lace tights trend. Paired with a tailored coat and classic Mary-Jane heels, she takes the look from racy and rebellious to graceful and girly, and with these Pretty Polly Lace Tights, you can channel her Upper East Side style without breaking the bank. As Blair demonstrates, lace tights are a classic way to bring a touch of feminine charm to an otherwise prim ensemble, evoking the unmistakably French allure of iconic couture house Chanel – with a chic black pencil skirt and white blouse, lace tights will take you from desk to dinner date with elegance and ease.

Luckily, now that the weather is warming up, lace doesn’t have to be restricted to tights! Jonathan Aston’s Sweet Roses Anklets are just the thing for taking on another of spring’s big trends – socks with sandals. Unashamedly girly, these are perfect for daintily balancing out the chunky heels we’ve seen all over the catwalks. We think Alexa Chung, who was recently papped at Paris Fashion Week flashing her lace-top hold ups under her chunky coat, would wear these with her new favourite high-heeled clogs and denim shorts for a quirky off-duty look on sunny summer days.

So there you have it – whether you’re after rock chic, classic elegance or kooky cool, lace hosiery is the must-have item that you definitely need in your wardrobe!

Olivia Palermo’s blue tights jazz up her gala outfit

Although charity work may be a responsible thing to do in the current economic climate, it doesn’t mean that you can’t take the time to look good while you do it.

This was perfectly demonstrated last night by The Hills spin-off star Olivia Palermo, who took part in the Design Industries Foundation Fighting AIDS gala dinner in New York and who was snapped by OSOYOU.com looking very chic in blue opaque tights.

The socialite and The City TV star teamed her sapphire-hue hosiery with a black leather dress, a fluffy gilet and black suede boots, earning maximum style points and proving that you don’t have to flash flesh to look great.

Lauren Conrad, a regular on The Hills, also knows good hosiery when she sees it – she was pictured last month looking effortlessly cool in high-shine leggings teamed with a billowing black top, a beret and knee-high boots.

The City, the new spin-off in which Olivia appears with Whitney Port, sees Whitney move to New York to work with Diane von Furstenberg.
