Laura’s Choice: Best Stocking Fillers!

Christmas shopping. Every year we promise ourselves that we’re going to start early and have it wrapped to perfection and stored away by mid-October. And yet every year the same thing happens; life gets in the way and before we know it, it’s a week before Christmas and we’re scrambling around the shops desperately trying to get it all done before the 25th. We never learn! If this sounds like you, fret not – there’s still a fair few shopping days to go before the big day, and with MyTights guaranteeing Christmas delivery should you select the Special Delivery option before 5pm on December 23rd, I thought it would be a great idea to compile my list of the very best stocking fillers on offer!

Falke Bedsocks

Falke Bedsocks

For me, stocking fillers should be small in stature yet huge in style. Most importantly, they shouldn’t break the bank, and great news – we have a fabulous range of inexpensive gift ideas that could soon find themselves in your doorway. If you’re in a real quandary about what to buy a loved one, you simply can’t go wrong with the Charnos Cosy Feather Socks. With forecasters projecting that wintry weather is set to hit, these sumptuously soft socks have a textured feel akin to feathers for instant warmth and snugness. Everyone craves toasty feet, so they really are a risk-free option, and even better, they’re available in 5 colours so you’re bound to find a shade that’s suitable. Perfect for mothers, girlfriends and daughters alike, another brilliant choice would be the Falke Bedsocks. While you may be slaughtered for making getting out of bed in the mornings even harder, she’ll love the instant warming effect and super-soft texture of these fluffy socks. Made with ethically sourced angora for an added hit of luxury! Sticking with the winter warmers for the moment, the Pretty Polly 200D Fleecy Opaque Thermal Tights have a cosy fleece lining that really does keep the cold out. The beauty of these is that they have the feel of thermal tights but the look of standard opaques, so nobody has to know. Once described as the ‘best thing to happen to winter since hot chocolate’, they’re also available in a footless version if that’s more up her street.

Pamela Mann Paris Skyline Tights

Pamela Mann Paris Skyline Tights

If the lady in your life is something of a budding fashionista, she’ll love the Pamela Mann Paris Skyline Tights, with their mock suspender design and the pièce de résistance (well, when in Paris), a Parisian skyline motif taking pride of place in the sheer section. Widely regarded as the most romantic city in the world, you’re bound to be in her good books if you opt for these! Capable of adding an undiscovered dimension to a wardrobe favourite, another option are the Jonathan Aston 40D Opaque Tights, which are available in a rainbow of colours (17 to be precise). Updating her look in an instant, she’ll gain even coverage and a pop of colour for just £6 a pair. Recently featured in the Daily Mail, the Charnos Heart Net Tights have an intricate heart net design, providing the perfect base to a classic LBD and allowing for a subtle hint of leg to shine through. Equally as great for the daytime as they are for a special evening event! If she’s partial to a spot of luxury, only Wolford will suffice. Perfect for those who aren’t afraid to stand out from the crowd, the Wolford Leonie Tights have a charming polkadot pattern, starting at the mid thigh and increasing in size as they descend down the leg for a stunning visual effect. Any advocate of patterned tights like these will know all too well the struggle it can be to source a particular pair in the mornings. So why not score double brownie points and also treat her to the fantastic Stoxbox? Simply insert the box into the leg of the tights, wrap the rest inside the hollow back and, well, that’s it… a beautifully presented hosiery drawer awaits!

Moving onto your male counterparts, the best way to put a smile on their face, in my opinion, is with Happy Socks. The ever popular Swedish brand are famed for their wacky design, a perfect example being the Happy Socks Men’s Dot Socks, which have a symmetrical polkadot print and combed cotton composition. He may not say it, but he’ll be eternally grateful once he realises how toasty his feet will be, not to mention stylish. Another way for him to earn his fashion stripes (if you pardon the pun) are with the Happy Socks Men’s Stripe Socks, which have a gorgeous nautical design and contrast heel and toe. Great for everyday use, we guarantee he’ll be showing off to all his mates! If you don’t fancy battling with the wrapping paper this year, a convenient (not to mention incredibly stylish) choice would be to opt for the Happy Socks Men’s Socks Gift Box – Multi! Featuring four pairs of wonderful men’s socks in an attractive gift box, he’ll be grinning from ear to ear and gain a revamped sock drawer to boot. Or kill two birds with one stone and treat him to the Happy Socks Men’s Briefs and Socks Gift Box, instead, featuring both a classic boxer brief and mid-calf socks amongst a multitude of spots,

Country Kids Sparkly Tights

Country Kids Sparkly Tights

Not forgetting the little ones, she’ll adore the Country Kids Sparkly Tights, covered in a glitter fleck that will be the envy of the entire playground. While she may insist on wearing them every day, I would recommend saving them for birthday parties and special occasions for a truly adorable legwear look. If your son or daughter is a wildlife fanatic, look no further than the Happy Socks Baby & Kids Animal Socks. Real value for money, you’ll get one pair in a terrific tiger print and the other in a lovely leopard, both of which come with an 80% combed cotton content, giving you peace of mind that their tootsies will be lovely and warm! Let’s face it, they won’t want to share, so it’s probably in your best interest to get them a pack each…

May I take this opportunity to wish all our lovely customers a fantastic Christmas period, and we hope to see you all again in 2015.

Until next time…

Laura’s Choice: Picture Perfect Party Tights

It’s that time of year where tuxedos and party dresses don’t look out of place on a Tuesday evening on the tube; it can be only be the party season! And the parties really do come thick and fast in the next few weeks, be it a work gathering, Christmas drinks with the girls, not forgetting the biggest night of them all – New Years Eve. With a social calendar that busy, most of us don’t have the time (or budget) to buy a brand new outfit for each event. But fret not – hosiery is a fantastic and inexpensive way of  revamping and adding a new dimension to a wardrobe classic. With this in mind, I thought it would be a great idea if I rounded up a selection of my favourite party tights for your upcoming soirees!

Purse-friendly

Fish net tights

I think there’s a misconception that creating a statement legwear look has to cost a fortune, but this really isn’t the case. A top recommendation of mine for achieving stand-out style on a budget is the Pamela Mann 50 Denier Tights. Available in an incredible 21 shades, it’s near on impossible not to find a pair to complement your outfit. What’s more, with  their flattering matte finish and sheer to waist brief, they offer a great deal of versatility for your party wardrobe, looking fabulous regardless of whether you favour a flirty mini or a fitted knee-length number. My favourites are the dark teal and rust – perfect with a classic LBD! Should you want legwear to give your look a racy twist, you really can’t go wrong with the Jonathan Aston Fishnet Tights. Fishnet tights are a fantastic way of adding a sexy element to an outfit, whilst still retaining an elegant edge, and these ones   have a timeless chic design that will work seamlessly with cocktail dresses. Why not also add a vibrant pair of heels for a pop of colour? Even better, they’re just £6 a pair, leaving you with change for a glass of vino or two.

Legwear for your work party

It’s often tricky to find the right mix between looking great and maintaining professionalism for work events. You want to feel confident and channel an on-trend look, but at the same time you want to dress appropriately for the context – it can be a nightmare! For me, the Oroblu Delices Tights are the perfect combination between chic and professional, featuring an overlapping diamond design and sheer panels that work together to create a visual effect that’s nothing short of stunning.  The key with these is to let your legwear do all of the talking, so opt for a pair of simple heeled sandals and an A-line dress and you’re set! Or if your work party is a little more glitzy, look in the direction of the Trasparenze Deejay Tights, which have an all-over

Trasparenze Deejay Tights

Trasparenze Deejay Tights

glittery fleck against an opaque black backdrop. Guaranteed to satisfy your inner magpie, you’re also able to choose between gold and silver glitter to match your accessories to a tee. Following on with the sparkly theme (why not?), another option is the Charnos Lurex Spot Opaque Tights, with an array of symmetrical glittery dots and 40 denier matte finish. Allowing you to channel two of this season’s hottest trends – polkadots and embellishment, in one outfit, the shine with these is actually rather subtle, so they’re also a great versatile choice for dinners and drinks with the girls.

New Years Eve

December 31st is that one night a year where it’s a crime to be curled up in front of the television in your pyjamas. The biggest social night of the year warrants some fabulous tights, right? Right. So say hello to 2015 in style in the Pretty Polly Delightful Pretty Flirty Backseam Tights, which have a slender backseam and exquisite lace effect panty and heel for the ultimate in special occasion legwear.  Full of personality and sex appeal; go for all out glamour in a sequined mini and statement heels! Or if you love the retro look of backseams but crave even more glamour, I love the Moulin Rouge Metallic Seam Tights, with their embellished backseam and chic Cuban heel. Even better, they won’t break the bank, so there’s no need to feel guilty! If these are up your street, you’ll also love the Trasparenze Melantis Tights, which are just made for glitzy evening events. Starting at the mid thigh, these sheer tights have a gorgeous metallic backseam, made up of an array of tiny diamantes and merging into a pretty floral effect at the ankle.  A real lesson in opulence! If seams aren’t your thing, I’d also like to point you in the direction of the Jonathan Aston Sweet Roses Lace Tights, with an intricate floral lace design for a classic legwear look that screams elegance and sophistication. A real lesson in opulence!

Tights for the kids

Pex sparkle tights

Pex sparkle tights

It’s not only us adults who feel the pressure to look good at this time of year! Your little ones are also bound to have a packed social calendar, and let’s face it, Christmas school discos ARE a big deal at that age. To avoid any unwanted tantrums, opt for the Country Kids Movie Star Tights, with a lurex star pattern that your daughter will just love. They’re also extra durable, with a reinforced toe and boxer brief, so you can rest assured that they’ll last for next year’s event, too! If she takes after her mummy, she’ll also be a sucker for a bit of sparkle. With this in mind, the Pex Sparkle Children’s Tights may be just the ticket for parties and end of term shindigs, with their metallic thread and super-shiny finish!

If none of these are right for your outfit, be sure to check out our entire range of party tights and socks before you leave!

Until next time…

Laura’s Choice: Christmas Gift Guide

On the twelfth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me… 12 pairs of sheers, 11 pairs of bedsocks, 10 thermal tights – I think you get the drift, it’s officially Christmas! While we can look all look forward to some time off work and a mince pie or five, the festive period does also mean the dreaded Christmas shopping rears its ugly head. It’s not always easy to know what to buy for your loved ones, and let’s face it, there’s nothing remotely enjoyable about wading through thousands of bargain-hunting shoppers on a freezing cold high street, is there? With this in mind, I’ve compiled my list of top gifts for the Christmas season. So whether you’re looking for inexpensive stocking fillers or something to really spoil your nearest and dearest, you’ll find some inspiration here…

Stocking fillers – budget-friendly

Pretty Polly 200D Fleecy Thermal Opaque Tights

Pretty Polly 200D Fleecy Thermal Opaque Tights

For gifts under £10 to fill up stockings or as an inexpensive treat for your Secret Santa, my absolute favourites are the Pretty Polly 200D Opaque Tights. Consistently amongst our bestsellers, these black opaque tights are lined with a cosy brushed fleece, ensuring your legs remain toasty in even the chilliest of weather, all the while helping you on your way to a classic legwear look that will work for almost any occasion. What’s more, at just £9.95 a pair, you’ll have change left over to get a pair for every lady in your life – girlfriends, mums, daughters, they’ll all love them! Perfect for the festivities, another great choice is the Pamela Mann Fairisle Printed Tights, complete with a Christmas inspired fairisle print for a chic alternative to winter-warming opaques. And with a new pair of fashion tights in their collection, your loved ones simply can’t go without the ingenious Stoxbox, solving that age old problem of rummaging through your hosiery drawer for a particular pair of patterned tights at 6:30am. All you need to do is insert the box into the leg of your tights and wrap the tights into the hollow back, leaving you with a efficiently presented hosiery drawer and time to have a cup of tea!

Gifts for her

Now, I don’t usually get so excited about a new product, but I’m a huge fan of the Falke Warm Deluxe Tights, so much so that I’ve ordered a pair for all of my girlfriends! Chic, versatile and snug as a bug, these 80 denier tights are made with soft plush loops, conserving heat and proving the ideal antidote to January temperatures.  All the warmth of thermal tights with none of the bulk, they’re also available in 7 on-trend colours, so there really is a pair to suit every personality and style. If you’re in the market for something luxurious to truly spoil the ladies in your life, you simply can’t go wrong with anything from Wolford. The pick of the bunch for me are the Wolford Velvet de Luxe 66, which have an opulent velvety texture and a superior fit; the kind of tights you just have to try to appreciate how special they really are. Or if she’s partial to a little bit of sparkle, treat her to the Trasparenze Vlinder Tights, which have a subtle glittery fleck that’s great for jazzing up a wardrobe classic. Thinking ahead, they’re also perfect for New Year’s Eve parties!

Ideal for mums, and making getting out of bed even more difficult, the Falke Bedsocks are made from ethically sourced Angora for a sumptuously soft feel and an instant warming effect. Similarly snug, the Pantharella Tabitha Anklet has been designed with hand linked seams and using top quality cashmere for incredibly toasty feet. Even better, you’re also able to choose from 8 stylish colours, all of which benefit from a chic ribbed design, so it really is the perfect marriage between style and functionality. Carrying on with the winter warming theme, and brilliant for lounging around the house watching Christmas movies, the Falke Cuddle Pads make for a fantastic gift, with their virgin wool blend, anti-slip sole and stylish presentation box complete with mock bow detail. Everybody loves a comforting slipper sock, don’t they?

If you’re really in a conundrum as to what to buy somebody, play it safe and opt for one of our wonderful Happy Socks gift boxes. A guaranteed hit, they also arrive in a beautiful presentation box, saving you the job of wrapping and adding to the wacky theme! My personal favourite is the Happy Socks Women’s Socks Gift Box, featuring four pairs of fantastically fun and comfortable mid-calf socks and a multitude of on-trend patterns. It’s also great value for money at just £20, so

Falke airport socks

it’s the ideal way to put you in the good books without breaking the bank!

Gifts for him

Good news if you’re a fan of the Happy Socks Women’s Socks Gift Box – it’s also available for men, and men can never have enough socks, right?! Speaking of socks, you won’t find any brimming with as much quality as the Falke Airport Short Men’s Sock, made from 60% wool for a classic legwear look. They’re also available in ten colours – why not buy a few so they have a pair for every occasion? Or for something a little different, the Happy Socks Men’s Boxers and Socks Gift Box features both a pair of polkadot combed cotton socks and matching boxer shorts should you want to treat him to something a little more versatile.

Oh Miley! How To Recreate Mileys Unorthodox Legwear Look

Queen of controversy, global pop sensation Miley Cyrus sure knows how to get people talking, doesn’t she? And it appears that any publicity is good publicity, as recent week have seen the Wrecking Ball singer taking the internet by storm with her new advert for Italian hosiery brand Golden Lady. Wearing next-to-nothing, the 21 year old danced to her new single Get It Right alongside a giant stuffed teddy bear (we don’t understand the link, either!), looking as if she was having a fabulous time in her pink sheer tights. However, as fans of Miley have come to expect, it’s never that straightforward, with the star then proceeding to rip the teddy bear into shreds, before a series of legwear changes and more, quite frankly odd, frolicking. Despite the strange concept, our eyes were of course drawn to her tights, and plenty of tights there were, with candy pink sheers, black sheers, and bright red opaques all taking centre stage!5th dec miley light pink

If you want to recreate Miley’s legwear look, a great starting point are the Jonathan Aston Sheer Coloured Tights. As well as being available in vibrant fuschia, these 15 denier tights also come in 18 other shades – every colour of the rainbow! Or for a softer pink, the Jonathan Aston 40D Opaque Tights have a candy pink option, which is great when you want something a little more understated, yet retaining a flirty edge.

5th dec miley redA real capsule piece, every woman should own a pair of classic black sheers. Timeless and elegant, they’re a permanent fixture on the catwalk, and a firm favourite amongst numerous of our style crushes, namely Kate Middleton! While Miley’s look admittedly isn’t as polished as Kate’s, there’s no denying her black sheers looked great. To channel this look without breaking the bank, we love the Pretty Polly Nylons, with their 10 denier leg and super shiny finish – perfect for a glamorous evening look! Or if you want something a little more luxurious, opt for refined quality of the Wolford Individual 10 Tights – the epitome of elegance.

Last but not least, we loved Miley’s red opaque look. Coloured hosiery is a great way to jazz up a tired wardrobe favourite, and good news – MyTights has a fantastic selection of red tights to choose from. The pick of the bunch are the Falke Cotton Touch Tights, which are lined with cotton for super-snug pins. Or for something a little more affordable, head to everyday favourites Pamela Mann!

Hats off to you Miley!

Laura’s Choice: My Top Opaques To Get You Through The Winter Months

Can you believe that it was only a couple of weeks ago that we were enjoying a resurgence of wonderful summer sunshine? Almost overnight, it seems as though we’ve said our last goodbyes to blue skies and mild temperatures, and hello to frost, early morning chill and battling with our umbrellas in the wind. And if the latest weather projections are anything to go by, it’s only going to get colder! Instead of mourning my summer sheers, I’ve decided to truly embrace the winter weather, and round up my favorite opaque tights to get you through the next few months with panache. Having adorned the legs of the likes of Taylor Swift in recent weeks, opaque tights are a chic and on-trend option, and with so much on offer at MyTights, I thought it would be a good idea to impart some of my wisdom and help you to find the perfect pair for you!

Essentials

Vibrant colours and interesting patterns are all well and good, but when the time calls for everyday opaques to wear to the office, it’s important to be able to get your hands on quality hosiery at an affordable price. The first port of call for me is the updated Aristoc range; the pick of the bunch being the Aristoc 50D Opaque Tights. With all the quality features of a more expensive product, these 50 denier tights are perfect if you’re looking for black tights that are a) comfortable and b) excellent value for money. For something particularly purse-friendly, I’d also like to point you in the direction of the Pretty Polly 60D Silk Finish Tights. At just £5 for a value two pack, these versatile tights give your pins even coverage and are super-soft to the touch. What’s more, with a slight sheen finish, they’ll also work seamlessly for post-work drinks! Money well spent. A great plus-size alternative is the Cette Dublin Tights, which will give your pins a timeless look and solid colour, while beautifully framing your lovely curves – something of a wardrobe staple.

Warmth Factor

Sometimes, there’s simply nothing better than pulling on a cosy pair of thermal tights, is there? Making chilly January mornings a whole lot more manageable, I love the Pretty Polly 200D Fleecy Opaque Thermal Tights, which have a super snug brushed fleece lining – the warmest tights around! With a flattering matte finish, they’re also great in that they won’t break the bank. Another fantastic option is the Falke Warm Deluxe Tights, which are brilliant at providing a wonderful warming effect , but without the bulk of traditional thermal tights. Choose from 7 chic colours, ranging from classic black all the way through to deep burgundy and stylish marine.

Pretty Polly 200D Fleecy Opaque Thermal Tights

Colour Pop

Coloured hosiery is ideal for giving tired outfits a new lease of life, and even better, at an affordable cost! Here at MyTights, we stock a number of coloured opaques. For all out impact, the Pamela Mann 50 Denier Tights come in no less than 20 vibrant colours, ideal for regularly updating your look  at minimum expense. So whether you want to channel a 60’s legwear look in daffodil yellow, or jump on board the current trend for rich autumnal colours, there really is something for everyone! If none of these colours take your fancy, I’d also recommend perusing the 20 colour options available in the Jonathan Aston 40D Opaque Tights, which are perennially popular here at MyTights HQ. Or if you’re looking for something a little more luxurious, look no further than the Falke Pure Matt 50 Opaque Tights. These are always a popular choice amongst our customers, and it’s hardly surprising, with a lovely velvety texture and high-end appearance. A real must-have, opt for the petrol and grape if you really want to stand out from the crowd and jazz up a wardrobe favourite.

Shaping

Calvin Klein are brilliant at producing top quality and attractive opaque tights, brimming full of shaping magic. Considerably less restrictive than other control top tights on the market, the Calvin Klein Ultra Fit 80D Shaper Tights provide gentle shaping support to streamline your shape, which is great if you have a sweet tooth and loathe the gym! Also available in a 50D if you want something a little more lightweight for the milder winter days.

A spot of luxury

With the trials and tribulations of modern day life, it really is important to look after yourself from time to time, and this extends to your legwear, too. My absolute favourites are the Falke Seidenglatt 70, which, in my opinion, really do offer a little bit of everything. Luxuriously soft, these versatile tights are great for keeping your legs snug and cosy, thanks to a thick 70 denier finish that genuinely does keep out the chill. I also love how seamlessly they can take you from day to night thanks to their glamorous glossy finish. Perfect for those of you with a busy social schedule, I love to wear mine with a patterned work dress! Or for days where the temperature is just a tiny bit higher, another recommendation of mine is the Wolford Velvet de Luxe 66 Tights. The epitome of elegance, these matte tights have a sumptuous velvet finish, keeping your legs content, stylish and warm until spring breaks.

While it’s undoubtedly sad that the warmer weather is behind us for another year, being able to wear chic opaques really does soften the blow, don’t you think? Wrap up warm, ladies!

Until next time…

HOW TO WEAR PATTERNED TIGHTS

Summer is over, and unfortunately we all have to resign ourselves to the fact that England doesn’t quite stay warm forever. But we always have an answer to everything, right?

This season shows us that we don’t need to cover up completely, as patterned tights invaded the AW14 runways.

Vivienne Westwood led the pack in the AW14 patterned tights collection, with her diverse range of tartan-check hosiery and eccentric triangle print tights. Want to upgrade your wardrobe this autumn? We have some purse-friendly options to help you stay in style without breaking the bank!

Tartan

So AW13 saw the return of the tartan print thanks to Karl Lagerfield, with brands such as Valentino and Gucci quickly following suit to add plaid to their collections. Immensely popular, it makes a return for 2014 and this year experiments with geometric op art checks and autumnal colours, along with the classic red print.

Bold shapes

Vivienne never fails to disappoint and this year, Westwood showed us how it’s done when they paired shapes with bold block coloured suits and leather. Why not try stepping outside the box and becoming a shape shifter this autumn?

Dots

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini (she will always be Cole to us, too!) was recently papped wearing a pair of spotted hosiery teamed with a black and gold mini dress, giving off a cute but stylish look. The spotty trend is back in, and with the sheen of the tights makes it so easy to dress them up or down whatever the occasion. If you wear a pair of skin coloured opaques underneath these styles, you’ll be sure to stay warm during the winter months, too!

World Cup Legwear!

Have you heard? The World Cup began last week in Brazil, and even though we would rather be on a beach in Rio de Janeiro, we’ll just have to make do and show off our English pride from the homeland.  In addition to any face paint you may feel the need to apply, make sure to show your support with a selection of legwear we have chosen to complete your football ensemble.

If you’re feeling especially supportive of the hosting country, try the Trasparenze Gennifer Merino Wool Tights in Bosco.  Your forest green legs will let everyone know you’re ready for kick-off and the dark colour is easy to style.  If you want a lighter weight tight, try Pamela Mann’s 50 Denier Tights in Forest Green.  For the brighter side of things, try them in Mustard and pair with a light coloured dress.

If you want a look that mirrors those of the men on the field, try our Trasparenze Cinzia Knee High Socks in Olivia. These knee high socks will add a fun and youthful look to your outfit and keep in spirit with the World Cup.  Wear them with flats or heeled booties and you’re ready to take on your day, football style.

If you’re feeling more English than Brazilian, we’ve got you covered.  The Falke Cotton Touch Short Socks in Cherry Red will bring just enough to spirit and colour to your outfit to show you’re a fan yet still be fashion forward. For a bolder look, try Pamela Mann’s 80 Denier Tights in Flo Red and show your support of the England National Team.

Whether you’re truly interested in the sport or just the fashion inspired by it, be sure to check out MyTights.com and score big.
