HOW TO WEAR PATTERNED TIGHTS

Summer is over, and unfortunately we all have to resign ourselves to the fact that England doesn’t quite stay warm forever. But we always have an answer to everything, right?

This season shows us that we don’t need to cover up completely, as patterned tights invaded the AW14 runways.

Vivienne Westwood led the pack in the AW14 patterned tights collection, with her diverse range of tartan-check hosiery and eccentric triangle print tights. Want to upgrade your wardrobe this autumn? We have some purse-friendly options to help you stay in style without breaking the bank!

Tartan

So AW13 saw the return of the tartan print thanks to Karl Lagerfield, with brands such as Valentino and Gucci quickly following suit to add plaid to their collections. Immensely popular, it makes a return for 2014 and this year experiments with geometric op art checks and autumnal colours, along with the classic red print.

Bold shapes

Vivienne never fails to disappoint and this year, Westwood showed us how it’s done when they paired shapes with bold block coloured suits and leather. Why not try stepping outside the box and becoming a shape shifter this autumn?

Dots

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini (she will always be Cole to us, too!) was recently papped wearing a pair of spotted hosiery teamed with a black and gold mini dress, giving off a cute but stylish look. The spotty trend is back in, and with the sheen of the tights makes it so easy to dress them up or down whatever the occasion. If you wear a pair of skin coloured opaques underneath these styles, you’ll be sure to stay warm during the winter months, too!

INTERVIEW WEAR- WHY TIGHTS ARE A MUST!

There’s nothing worse than turning up for an interview and you’ve missed the attire ‘memo’. You may as well have turned up naked, and that reoccurring dream that haunted you since you were a child has just materialized. But of course, help is at hand here at MyTights.com! Here’s some guidance on how to ace that interview, and as we are judged within the first 7 seconds of meeting someone, the appearance is a pretty good place to start…

94% of interviewers have a negative impression on a candidate if they show up bare-legged*

Unfortunately we aren’t all blessed with naturally slender or blemish free legs, (or hot weather all year round!), and so this may not apply to many-  if Miranda Kerr and Beyoncé still invest in sheers then there’s no reason why we shouldn’t!

The ‘debate’…

Years ago the debate on whether women should or shouldn’t wear tights to the workplace was unheard of, and pantyhose were a woman’s best friend. Many women still live by this, and this is something candidates need to consider! Your potential employers are probably not your age so wearing tights is a must for them, and as a potential newbie you don’t want to give any of the senior team a reason to dislike you! After you’ve been hired, you can then get a feel for the company to then decided whether going bare-legged can be accepted.

Company culture

You may be asked to dress in business casual and if so then fretting whether you should or shouldn’t wear tights won’t be an issue. BUT don’t assume that all businesses dress this way; make sure to ask and get a full brief policy description.

“For women, the more skin you show, the less influence you have.”

So, now we’ve discovered that tights are a BIG deal in an interview (who knew?!) now all you have to do is CHOOSE a pair…

Colours are limited, as although coloured and patterned tights are ‘in’, wearing the newest AW14 trend to an interview for a financial position in a bank may not be appreciated; so for ultimate safety stick to Nude or Black tights.

Opaques

These 50 denier suede matt opaque tights are an essential to the winter wardrobe this season, super soft and smooth against your legs they can be worn with any fabric skirt and perfect for an interview!

levante-suede-matt

Nude sheers-

These sheers have been around since 1937 (with a few tweaks to keep them up to date with hosiery innovation, of course), so we are pretty certain that they are a good catch. These 10 denier tights are cherished for their ultra-glossy finish, and with high durability and wear you can’t go wrong!

Black

With a broad selection of dark colours to choose from, these glossy Wolfords will have any interviewer wishing they’ve got a pair!

Street Style – May ’14

We’ve all been there, thinking: “wow I love those patterned tights! But what could I wear them with?” It’s a common conundrum, being surrounded by so much choice, so it always helps to have the assistance of certain style gurus on hand. These two looks will give you plenty of inspiration for your hosiery wardrobe.

gisela-edited-1

The first of our lovely fashionistas is Gisela, while visiting New York, she took a stroll in her Pretty Polly & Patternity Bricking It Tights in 80/20 denier – what better way is there to stand out in this fashion forward city? To copy this look team these tights with denim shorts, a sleeveless NYC top, a scarlet satchel and ankle boots.

gisela-edited-2

If you’re a huge fan of the Big Apple then why not also check out the New York Skyline Tights from Pamela Mann in 50/20 denier. These fashion tights put a fun twist on that mock suspender style by including motifs of famous New York landmarks on the tops.

jane-comp-winner-edited

Now take a look at the fabulous competition winner Jane Postlethwaite in her animal print tights and matching burgundy ensemble complete with gold shoes. Burgundy, gold and tan all compliment each other beautifully while the animal print tights go seamlessly with her patterned scarf for a matchy-matchy style. For a similar look, combine the Jonathan Aston Wild Tights in 20 denier along with a patterned oxblood red and metallic skirt, plain shirt and burgundy scarf. Alternatively go for the Trasparenze Adventure Tights in 100 denier with their chic panel design featuring half black opaques and half animal print for a flattering take on this fierce style.

We hope that you have found inspiration for new ensembles to go along with your patterned tights!

Laura’s Choice: Shape It Up!

With more and more women confessing to owning and wearing shapewear in some form or another, it was about time that someone came up with something new and exciting.  Thank goodness, then, for Pretty Polly’s Shape It Up collection, which has gone some way to making shapewear seem young, cool and fun.  The five new medium control additions to their existing capsule collection are perfect for those demanding ladies who want it all – shapewear that controls effectively, feels amazing to wear and looks great too.  You’d think that any products combining all this would pretty much bankrupt you for the next season – but no, Pretty Polly have made their whole range fabulously affordable as well, so no one gets left out.

For those that like a classic shapewear shorts style that will target the traditional “legs, tums and bums” areas, the Pretty Polly Shape it Up Long Line Shaper Shorts are perfect.  With a longer leg than average shapers, these shorts are perfect for under pencil skirts or form fitting midi dresses, as the leg extends down to just a few inches above the knee.  With a wide control waistband that refuses to roll down and a seamless design to make them as discreet as possible, these are a great all round shaping solution.

For a similar silhouette with added pretty points, the high waisted Pretty Polly Lace Shaper Short gives the same medium control around the hips, tummy, bum and thighs, but has the added bonus of a high waist than extends right up to the bra line, not to mention the elegant lace design and adorable scalloped edges.  This is the prettiest shapewear I’ve ever seen – I predict this is one you might actually admit to wearing!

If you want to make an even bolder statement, the Pretty Polly Boy Shaper Short comes in a vivid hot pink as well as classic black and nude, and has a boy short design, meaning they’re ideal for teaming with minidresses, high hemmed skirts and even micro shorts.  Perfect if you just need a little help around the middle, these will flatten tums and give derrières a subtle boost.

Pretty they might be, but these styles were still designed to be worn under clothes – unlike the Pretty Polly Shaper Leggings, which will shape from ankle to braline with ease.  You can of course layer these if you want to – they’ll work well under slim fitting trousers or clingy evening dresses, as there’ll be no visible lines thanks to the seamless design and the fact that there is no edge where the shaper stops on your thigh like you get with a shorts design. But personally I think they would be fab worn on their own for the gym – their slight sheen finish makes them look just like regular exercise leggings, so fellow gym bunnies will simply think your fabulous figure means you’ve been putting in extra hours on the treadmill.

And whether you team with your leggings at the gym or under a tailored blazer on a night out, the Pretty Polly Shaper Cami is a shapewear classic.  It looks just like any basic vest top, albeit with a luxurious slight sheen to the fabric, but tucked away inside is yet more of Pretty Polly’s pretty fab secret shaping.  With adjustable straps and a non-control structured bit about the bust to lift rather than flatten, the camisole boasts shaping control all around the mid section, so it’s well equipped to flatten tummies, trim waists and smooth backs.  This is perfect for layering under dresses or sheer blouses, as everyone will think you’re just wearing a regular top and so your shapewear can remain your little secret.

The entire range is virtually seamless (any seams that do feature are super flat and usually on the inside of the leg), so there’ll be no risk of anyone guessing the reason behind your amazing new figure.  Plus, all the styles except the Lace shaper shorts have been treated with a cooling finish, so they’ll keep you feeling fresh even in warmer weather. If you love these, be sure to check out the rest of the Pretty Polly Shape it Up collection, including classic control tights and even shaping suspender styles!

Until next week…

Party Tights for the party season!

LBD? Tick. Vertiginous heels? Tick. Tights?…

As the party season fast approaches, it?s now the time to get that hosiery drawer in order. If you?ve any chance of keeping up with that social calendar, then outfit planning in advance is a must! No longer the afterthought, tights (and socks for those who can survive arctic temperatures) are an inexpensive and fashion forward way to add life to that weary LBD or unloved skirt. Ranging from the blingtastic to subtle shimmer, there?s a pair to complement every ensemble.

Disco DivaLurex Highball Tights

To make sure you dazzle on the dance floor, I recommend a hefty dose of glitter. Far easier to style than you may think, glitzy tights will instantly add fun to that understated outfit, and will give those everyday courts a mini-makeover. From Pamela Mann, the Lurex Highball Tights will do just that, with the extra special opaques letting you shimmer your way through the night. With a thick 80 denier appearance, the tights??positively shimmer,?courtesy of the lurex fabric used. Free from any brief, the all over glitter remains uninterrupted, leaving you free to wear any hemline that takes your fancy (ideal for those roller discos!).? If you want to show off your festive pedicure, then the footless version of these tights is a must with the Lurex Highball Footless Tights reaching ankle length.

Subtle Shimmer

If head to toe glitter isn?t your cup of tea, then why not take things down a notch with some subtle shimmer? A favourite for work parties and dinner dates, the demure look will take you from the office to the bar without the need to change in between. And given that that shimmer & shine are must have ingredients for the party season ahead, I couldn?t recommend the Starlight Tights more. From the Jonathan Aston Premium range, the 20 denier sheers have been made with a multi-coloured glitter yarn that shimmers and glitters when catching the lights. A personal favourite of mine and another addition to the Jonathan Aston range, the Starburst Tights are equally as elegant. From the knee outwards, small circular and flat discs scatter the legs of the tights, glimmering as though actual stars are decorating your tights. These look great when worn underneath a shift dress and heels, with metallic accessories providing even more glamour.

If you?re not ready to let go of your trusty black opaques, then the Lurex Spot Opaque Tights from Charnos are perfect for making the transition. Transforming the much loved polka dot print, small metallic spots appear throughout ? choose from gold or silver, both on a black opaque background. ?To dress up, step into killer heels, teaming your opaques with a brushed silk dress and an oversized glitter clutch for even more shimmer.

Queen of Quirky

For the occasions when understated just won?t suffice, may I point you in the direction of Henry Holland. Noted for his tongue in cheek style, the Alphabet Silver Tights from his Pretty Polly collaboration are the easy way to add designer cool to your outfit. The sheer 20 denier tights are decorated with sparkly silver letters that spell ?HOUSE? on one leg and ?HOLLAND? on the other. A true conversation starter if ever I had seen one, I love teaming mine with a festive red dress and heels.

The collaboration fun doesn?t stop there either, as Pretty Polly have teamed forces with designer of the moment, Joanne Hynes. Notorious for her playful use of colour and cut out shapes, the Optical Illusion Tights do not disappoint. The 60 denier opaques are decorated with a foxy glitter backseam whilst the top half of your tights is transformed with shimmering cut outs and large helping of postbox red. Coupled with a velvety soft feel and flat seams, it?s easy to see why no party outfit is complete without them!

Lovely & LuxuriousWolford Collier Tights

Given the amount of time we will spend on the dance floor, treating legs to a little luxury is imperative. Thankfully, Wolford agrees with this, and have made it easy to feel good and look great at the same time. Embracing the embellished trend in time for the festive season, the Collier Tights from the Austrian brand are a godsend. Made from a soft & smooth 60 denier, the tights boast an embellishment mock suspender design with a beautiful backseam to boot. Small silver diamante and larger silver flat discs have been carefully glued and arranged in a hanging chandelier design, with a singular row of small diamantes running down the back of your legs. If that doesn?t say luxury, I don?t know what does!

For true elegance this season, treat hosiery drawers to the Hoara Tights from Oroblu?. Delivering a 40 denier appearance, your lacy tights have been packed full of decorative delights. The overall look is a busy but beautiful one, with a mock fishnet bringing a contemporary sense to the traditional floral motifs. I love to style mine with a chic wrap dress and boots, keeping accessories to a minimum to let the tights steal the show.

Three cheers for the party season!

Until next time…

Laura

P.S Ladies, don?t forget to stock up on your emergency black opaques for when the party catches you by surprise!

It?s official ? Pretty Polly are cool!

They made the suspender tights a reality and Brit cool designer Henry Holland is best chums with them, so it?s hardly a surprise to learn that Pretty Polly have made an appearance on the CoolBrands list for 2013/2014. Notoriously hard to get onto, the list from CoolBrands reads as a ?who?s who? of the consumer world, ranging from edgy start ups to established fashion brands. Flying the flag for British hosiery, Pretty Polly has been praised for their ?playful and accessible? brand values ? and we couldn?t agree more.

From the flirty packaging to the charming designs, Pretty Polly tights are forever leading trends instead of following, making sure you have the best dressed legs out there. Whether you?re a fan of their classic Nylons range (and chances are that the older generations in your family love them just as much) or you?re a big fan of their fashion range, there?s a pair of Pretty Polly tights for every hosiery drawer. What?s more, with constant collaborations with the latest designers and creative talent like the brand new Joanne Hynes or Patternity collections, eye catching hosiery is always guaranteed.Pretty Polly

But gushing aside, we?ve rounded up our favourite products that the superbrand has to offer right now. Disclaimer: you may want everything on there…

1)????? Pretty Polly & Joanne Hynes Heart tromp L?oeil Tights ? Impossibly sweet with equal servings of flirty, the opaques come complete with romantic heart motifs and a quirky cut out design. A must if your workwear needs cheering up, the chic tights are perfect for the party season too. Just one of the three styles that Pretty Polly and designer Joanne Hynes have created this season!

2)????? Pretty Polly & Patternity Bricking It Tights ? The result of another collaboration, it seems that the fashion world can?t get enough of this particular pair, with everyone clambering to try out the latest ?it? pair of tights. From pattern enthusiasts Patternity (the clue is in the name!) and Pretty Polly, both opaque and sheer panels make up the striking brick design. Easier to style than some may think, make sure to keep accessories minimal and your colour palette simple.

3)????? Pretty Polly Nylons Back Seams ? A classic but chic choice, the 10 denier gloss tights feature a retro inspired back seam that works to elongate your pins. Created with the modern fit of today but with the glamour of yesteryear, these are great for making a statement day & night.

4)????? Pretty Polly Shape It Up Suspender Shaper Tights ? The fabulous suspender tights – but not as you know them! Kate loves opaques too!

Entrepreneur, yummy mummy and self confessed Queen of Cool, there are endless reasons why Kate Moss will forever remain our favourite model. Ever since the 5’7 beauty emerged on the scene in the late 90s, the British public (well, a large amount of them anyway), have flocked to replicate her chic & cutting edge ensembles.

mobile phone hacking software

Moss and her Opaques!

Just shy of 40, the mum of one showed us that she’s still got it during fashion week, debuting an impressive array of outfits. But when it came to after hour events, Moss flaunted a rather classic style of hosiery – her trusty black opaques.

No doubt her endless legs helped contribute to the show stopping looks but thanks to a little help from her choice of leg wear, Kate Moss grabbed headlines on more than one occasion. From her fancy dress appearance at the anOther magazine party (and no, there wasn’t an ill flattering costume in sight) to a Longchamps launch party, the supermodel relied on her black opaques to deliver a bold leg silhouette and elegant coverage. And here at MyTights HQ, we want to join in.

Luxurious and lovely, the Wolford Neon 40 Tights are fast becoming an office favourite, delivering a super soft feel and glossy finish. Leaving legs feeling pampered and looking polished, these are ideal for both work & play, including any fancy dress parties…

For a purse friendly alternative that still feels just as gorgeous, treat legs to the 80D Silk Finish Tights from Pretty Polly. Having recently revamped their opaques range, the British superbrand have made sure that regardless of budget or occasion, you’ll still be able to discover your perfect pair. Just the pair for those wanting a great quality pair of tights that they can wear every day, the 80 denier opaques have a gorgeously smooth finish, along with a silky sheen that Moss herself appears to prefer.

And for those always on the go, take solace in the fact that some rather clever designers have managed to work ladder resistant technology into a pair of fabulous 80 denier opaques. From Andrea Bucci, the Lycra Fusion fibre Opaque tights come prepared to deal with hectic schedules and clumsiness. By using bi-component technology, ?the outer layers of the fibre are allowed to fuse together, leaving the fabric super strong. In turn, you can be sure that a snag will never transform into anything more. Phew!!

So now we have our perfect pair of black opaques, we?re just waiting on those party invites to come through. Kate, we hope you?re reading!

Pretty in Pattern: A Patternity Special!

Admittedly a tongue teaser, but excessive alliteration aside, we?ve fallen hook, line and sinker for the newest collaboration from Pretty Polly. To begin with, they gave us Henry Holland and the ultra sassy suspender tights that have never left our wardrobes, but now intent with expanding their fashion horizons, the British superbrand have joined forces with the ultra-cool creative brand Patternity. Determined to make the world a better place with one pattern at a time, pattern obsessed Patternity (the clue is in the name really) have lent their print expertise to a small collection of tights, combining fabulous design with gorgeous quality.

Kicking off the trio of patterned delights is the ?Bricking It Tights?. Bold and beautiful, these are the definition of statement tights.? Equal parts chic and achingly cool, the opaque tights feature a quirky brickwork pattern that runs throughout, with sheer panels revealing a glimpse of leg below. Perhaps a shock for the pattern phobic amongst us, believe us when we say they?re oh so simple to style. The trick is to keep the rest of your ensemble (accessories included!) understated, letting your legs take centre stage. For outfit inspiration, look to Anna Murray who is one of the brains behind Patternity, as she styled her Bricking It Tights with leather shorts, a slouchy blazer and on trend fedora hat.Patternity

making money from home

Brickwork not your thing? Break the mould and give your everyday tights a run for their money with the graphic Tower Block Tights. With a distinct tribal vibe, these feature a ?stacked? geometric vertical pattern, perfect for lengthening legs and getting every head turning. For the pattern weary, we recommend teaming with a simple skater skirt and tee, allowing your hemline to control how much print your reveal. The more adventurous out there can introduce a little clashing pattern through nifty accessories, making collecting fashion kudos as easy as ABC.

Completing the trio are the Shape Shifter Tights, which take look-at-me legs to a whole new level. On trend and treading the line between fashion and art, the graphic tights are anything but understated. By using flattering nude panels in between the bold shapes, you?re able to fake that flawless skin tone without having to lift a finger. What?s more, these are chic enough to wear to the office and bar, set to become the new talking point around the water fountain. Hooray!

So whether you?re new to the world of pattern or a veteran of print, treat to your wardrobe to one (or all three) and soak up that cool kudos.
