Met Gala 2015: A Tale Of Perfectly Airbrushed Pins

Met Gala 2015

Met Gala 2015

Royal baby aside, there was another mega-exciting event to take place this weekend – the Met Gala! In typical fashion, this year’s event showcased the most extravagant and gorgeous celebrity styles, with superstars donned in designers from Atelier Versace to Alexander Wang. With their own take on the theme, China: Through the Looking Glass, we were treated to an array of fashion ensembles in the most daring oriental-inspired designs. Here’s our take on the looks, including Rihanna in THAT dress:

Oroblu Geo 8 Tights

Oroblu Geo 8 Tights

There seemed to be a common consensus at this year’s event – jaw dropping long gowns and side splits.  With stars like Rihanna in her shimmering gold-train gown and Uma Thurman in her angelic outfit showing off their lovely legs, it got us thinking about how we’re going to achieve a similarly airbrushed look when it comes to wearing our new summer dresses. The answer? Bare leg look hosiery, of course! To achieve perfect pins, we suggest wearing a pair of ultra-sheer tights that add a barely-there look whilst covering over your blemishes and imperfections. For your own red carpet night, slip into the Oroblu Geo 8D tights. An 8 Denier (yes—8!) finish will appear as if you aren’t wearing any hosiery at all, at the same time giving you enough coverage to feel lovely and confident. We adore!

Wolford Fatal Lace 15 Seamless Tights

Want to wear you pretty sandals and show off your pedicure? Look no further with the Oroblu Sunny 8 Toeless Tights that lets your pedicure shine through, complete with elasticated band across the toe area to keep them in place. It wasn’t all bare leg looks on offer though, with other stars opting to complete their look with black sheers. Stars including model Jamie Bochert and Grimes showed us all that sheer tights needn’t be dull, pushing the boundaries by teaming classic sheers with glamorous dresses. For your own piece of sheer heaven, opt for a luxury seamless pair like the Wolford Fatal Lace 15 Seamless Tights made without any seams to eliminate the risk of the dreaded VPL. If you’re feeling even more courageous, opt for patterned tights like the Charnos Opaque Flower Tights.

Ps. Rihanna…what were you thinking?!

Rihanna Shows Us All How To Style Ankle Socks!

We’ve been hooked on Rihanna ever since she brought Umbrella to our airwaves way back in 2007. Altogether now… ella, ella, ella, eh. No? Okay. Continuing to assert her presence not only on the music world but the fashion, she truly is one of a kind. Sure, she might get it wrong sometimes. For instance, this week she was spotted wearing socks and sandals, but it doesn’t matter when she pulls outfits like the below out of the bag!

Style perfection!

Style perfection!

Having been announced as the new face of cosmetic brand Dior (and being the first black woman ever to take the accolade, FYI), Rihanna was this week photographed at the premiere of her new animated movie Home in a cute as a button teal dress with a cute bow print. Accessorising with a matching jacket, pointed teal heels and black ankle socks, Rihanna showed everyone how to look great without falling foul to an OTT look. For us, the star of her outfit was her socks, working to dress down the ensemble and give off a flirty edge that was perfect for the relatively low key premiere. Are you crushing on her socks? Each and every one of us can recreate it, and even better, at an affordable price!

Trasparenze Monique Ankle Socks

Trasparenze Monique Ankle Socks

To copy her look to perfection, look no further than the Trasparenze Monique Ankle Socks in Nero. We’re sure Rihanna spent a whole lot more on hers, but these opaque ankle highs are near on identical, and will set you back just £3.85 a pair. What reason could you possibly have to say no?  If patterned dresses aren’t for you, how about running Rihanna’s look upside down with a plain dress and pair of patterned socks? The ideal way to do this is with the Jonathan Aston Illusion Socks! Made with thin diagonal monochrome stripes that meet in the middle to create a chevron effect, they’ll look great with killer heels and a black skater dress.

Pamela Mann All Over Hearts Anklets

New to SS15, another one of our favourite styles are the Jonathan Aston Crystal Socks, which are perfect if your outfits are lacking a little in the personality department. With their ribbed finish, the satin bow at ankle height is perfect for giving your outfits an on-trend look (if it’s good enough for Rihanna…) Feeling romantic? Opt for the Pamela Mann All Over Hearts Anklets, with their chic sheer base and mix of opaque love hearts. Not only giving your outfit a super-cute twist but also seen on fellow fashionista Fearne Cotton, we love to wear ours with black party dresses!

Keep up the good work, RiRi!

Whilst we may still be shivering into our onesies and hot water bottles, the turn of the New Year means that it’s time to start considering our spring/summer wardrobes. Here at MyTights, we love the elegant look that sheers can offer, giving your pins a subtle look and some coverage when you’re not feeling brave enough to expose a bare leg! And we’re not alone, with the likes of Kate Middleton, Alexa Chung and Rihanna all being advocates of the movement. Well, if it’s good enough for them…

Last week, The Guardian even featured the trend on their fashion blog, calling on the expertise of none other than MyTights founder, Laura Godsal, who revealed that sales of sheers are up by 13% this winter already. She added that ‘Whereas sheers and semi-sheers in recent years have been unfashionable, now you walk down the street and see women of all ages wearing them, with black being the hot favourite.’ With this in mind, we thought it would be a great idea to compile a selection of our favourite sheer tights, so all our lovely customers can find a look that’s perfect for them!

The budget friendly – you simply can’t go wrong with the Aristoc Ultra Shine 10D Tights, amongst our bestsellers and coming with a glamorous shiny finish and choice of shades. Or opt for the Charnos Run Resist Sheer Tights if a matte look is more your thing…

Rihanna loves Fishnets!

levante_fishnetsRihanna is always unapologetic when it comes to her stunning outfit choices, and often they include one of our favourite wardrobe staples ? fishnets! We love how RiRi wears her foxy fishnets with monster levels of style.

On her way to the NYC nightspot, The Marquee, the fashion diva was recently photographed sauntering down the street in an R rated semi-sheer dark blue mini dress, black Louboutin heels and fishnets. And thanks to her (hopefully fake) brown mink coat and fishnets, RiRi was safe from the winter chill. Whilst, they?ll never rival 100 denier opaques for their warmth, fishnets do boast a small insulating factor, especially when woven with a layer of sheers.

Rihanna is not the only girl in the world who could pull off this look, to copy the Barbadian beauty?s style we recommend Levante Fishnet Tights. A classic pair of fishnets with medium size holes, providing you with sultry style. Without any visible reinforcement, you can feel free to flaunt any RiRi style super short hemlines you may desire.

Yet again the Umbrella hit maker brought out her fishnets for a different ensemble. This time matching fishnets with ripped jeans, she showed how it?s possible to combine two punk pieces for a dramatic effect. This look is perfect for those of you who wish to cover up a bit more. If a subtler look is what you?re after, then Jonathan Aston Micronet Tights are ideal. Woven with an additional layer of sheer fabric, these fishnets help to keep you warm during these freezing months.

Love the sexy songstress? style, but prefer the freedom of hold ups? Jonathan Aston Fishnet Hold Ups With Plain Top are chic yet seductive. As an added bonus, fishnets are difficult to snag, so this along with the addition of Lycra, means that you will be able to enjoy wearing these hold ups again and again.

So what now for your hosiery drawer? Let us know which fishnets are your faves.

Stockings: Through The Years

Rihanna rocks hers with just a t-shirt. Beyonce shows hers off on stage. Paris Hilton adores wearing mock versions of them. It seems no other style has come further in the hosiery world than stockings. Once used as a method to protect your modesty during the 19th century, stockings are now the finishing touch to any ensemble.

Craving a vintage backseam? A fan of fishnet stockings? Throughout the years, designers have played with new patterns and fabrics to bring you the latest trend to hit the catwalks and dominate the high streets. But where did it all begin?

Well, as it so happens, both men and women took a fancy to stockings before the introduction of trousers in the 18th century. After that, the demand was driven by females alone, as the Victorian era dictated that to flash a bit of ankle bordered on obscene! With the emphasis on functionality rather than fashion, stockings were to be hidden away under dresses and skirts, tucked into corners of the wardrobe.

It was only after World War 1 that stockings became a little less about modesty and little more about style, as designers began to play with new shades and tones. By the 1920’s, the nations obsession with ankles had deteriorated and with this stockings developed a new found role – to decorate legs! With women encouraged to show off their pins, hosiery brands were forced to find newer and more exciting products to feed the ever expanding hunger – and this is exactly how nylon stockings came to fruition.

Invented in the UK but created across the pond in the USA, the stockings were given their name from the two locations – NY and LONdon (don’t say we never

teach you anything!). After going on sale in 1940, the nation managed to get their hands on over 64 million pairs within the year. And that’s a lot of nylon! With the arrival of the ultra stretchy Lycra in 1959, stockings took on a new lease of life, providing stretch and durability like never before. Our favourite Pretty Polly Nylons Tights were a direct result of this, and they continue to combine classic glamour with a gorgeous fit. Available in 9 different shades, there’s an option for every outfit and occasion, with a back seam version too for all those vintage enthusiasts.

Of course, the obsession with mini-skirts and risqué hemlines soon impacted the demand for stockings in the 60s, as tights began to take over in the hosiery race. Thankfully, it appears that this hasn’t dampened our desire for stockings at all, as the nation still relies on the style to deliver allure and comfort time after time. And for those who crave a little more

coverage? Try out the fab mock suspender tights, for a faux stocking design that delivers the warmth of sheers. Hooray!

So whether you’re after a more demure style or full on flirty fun, shop our stocking collection now to find the perfect pair!

Rihanna Goes Out In Her Underwear… Again

Another day, another bare all look for Rihanna, who stepped out in this revealing ensemble last night following her X Factor performance.

Teaming black hold ups (the exact ones she’s wearing are the Wolford Velvet de Luxe 50 Hold Ups, by the way!)with an, if anything, overdressed top half, Rihanna rocked an oversized white jumper and denim jacket combo with fluoro trainers and a Where’s Wally bobble hat. She was – we think – at least wearing shorts underneath, as appeared in the semi naked photo she tweeted of herself getting changed after the show.

Want the look? Try the Falke Pure Matt 50D Hold Ups in black with basically the scruffiest thing you can find in your wardrobe. Layer on your top half to balance out the amount of leg on show (and to keep you warm – it is almost December after all!)

Alternatively, you could follow her lead from earlier on in the evening, when she wore a high necked, floor length black gown to perform in. Very demure – or it would have been if it weren’t for the wide lace panels either side which ran the length of the dress and made the wearing of underwear unlikely.

Lace is everywhere at the moment – the very brave should try the Emilio Cavallini Lace Bodystocking over a black vest and shorts; but if you just want a touch of lace to add a sexy, feminine edge to your look check out our selection of lace tights. Our favourites at the moment are the Pretty Polly Lace Secret Slimmer Tights, which come with a sturdy boxer brief and control top for

ultimate slimming properties, and the Oroblu Caroline Ankle Highs which you can wear on their own with heels and pumps or under skinny jeans for a flash of lace as you walk.

Love Rihanna’s outfits? It’s easy to get the look, because we’ve pulled together everything you need to steal her style with our selection of Rihanna Tights

Rihanna's Daring New Shorts

Last weekend, the Hackney music festival was held in East London. Musical artists such as Ed Sheeran, David Guetta, and Jessie J gathered to perform in front of thousands of screaming fans. Although music was the focus of the weekend, festival fashion is always a hot topic. This time the style debate was on whether Rihanna’s Jonathan Aston fishnet shorts were trendy or trashy. Rihanna paired her shorts with leather hot-pants, a leopard printed shirt and a gold detailed leather jacket, exuding an urban cool vibe.
Rihanna’s exact look should probably stay on the stage, but as usual she is always sporting the latest trends. The cycling shorts look has resurfaced this summer, seen on celebrities such as Alexa Chung and Little Mix. This style can be quite flexible, layering lace shorts under skirts or satin shorts are girly and more conservative, while fishnet, patterned, or bright colour shorts radiate more of a relaxed urban vibe.
This is a fun trend to play around with, but is not for those not

willing to experiment. If you want to be a bit edgy, try Jonathan Aston’s Opaque Shorts underneath a short dress or long tee. If your style is more classic, wear Jonathan Aston’s Lace Shorts layered underneath a mini skirt, tight at night or full during the day.
Another fun way to wear cycling shorts is to layer them over your favourite tights and pairing them with a boyfriend blazer or long sweater, changing up the look of both the shorts and tights. Overall, cycling shorts are actually easy to layer and quite versatile. They are great to avoid a wardrobe malfunction with those slightly too short shorts and skirts and they provide an inexpensive way to perk up an outfit.
At first this look may seem hard to pull off every day, but really it is quite wearable for everyone. If you are looking to mix up your style and try something different, throw on a pair of cycling shorts underneath a typical outfit and you have a fresh new look. Just please wear shorts longer than Rihanna’s!
