FASHION WEEK: Tights Highlights from SS15

The month of endless Fashion Week(s) have come and gone. From New York to Paris,  designers from all over showcased their newest designs for Spring/Summer 2015. While we have just gotten into autumn, it is NEVER too early to start thinking about the upcoming trends for this spring. We here at MyTights have all the upcoming tights trends here for you so you can start stocking up early.

New York

Footless Black Tights seemed to be a popular accessory at the Polo Ralph Lauren Show. While these specific tights are paired with pretty white lace dresses and black accessories, these tights can be styled in virtually any way- from dressed up to dressed down.

The Fashion World exploded when Tom Ford gave us lots of legs styled with Black Hold Ups all over his runway in London. Styled with LBD’s, black hold ups are yet another versatile accessory that can easily be brought from day to night with a simple change in hemline.

Still not sure about socks with heels? David Longshaw showed us in London that this trend will be very alive this upcoming spring by pairing pretty socks with heels on all of his models. This trend is perfect for early spring/late fall when you want to still wear your strappy sandals without having your toes get too cold. Protection and style, what more could you ask for!?

Giamba donned all her models in white spotty tights on her runway in Milan. While we do not have white spots in stock (they have been dully noted though), black will work just as well with this trend. Take Giamba’s advice and do not be afraid to mix the spots with more spots or floral patterns.

Dolce and Gabbana shared lots of hosiery trends on their runway. My personal favorite was floraly, lacy knee high socks. These socks can be very versatile and compliments almost any outfit. Pair with strappy sandals to wear when the weather isn’t quite warm enough.

Jean Paul Gaultier said au revoir to his ‘ready to wear’ career by pulling off the most outrageously fun fashion show of Paris Fashion Week- I was extremely jealous of this ‘beauty pageant’. Many of his models were clothed in coloured tights. Pair with anything from denim shorts to a LBD as these tights are very versatile.

Last, but definitely not least: Louis Vuitton also stepped onto the tights bandwagon this year by dressing his models in lace tights. Do not be afraid to pair these tights with a pattered dress like Louis Vuitton did, it looks wonderfully fun!

Zooey Deschanel Spotted Wearing Polka Dot Tights

'New Girl' Season 3 Finale Screening, Los Angeles, America - 08 May 2014Get some star style and perk up that monochrome look with a pair of polka dot tights.

America’s favourite girl next door looked fabulous at the Season Three Finale Screening for the FOX comedy New Girl, in which Zooey Deschanel has the starring role. With black stilettos contrasting with her white cotton sundress from Topshop, Miss Deschanel wore spotty tights. A fun alternative to sheer tights, these subtle spots are the perfect transition between her white dress and black shoes, and add a touch of fun to her chic ensemble.

Steal Zooey’s look and get the Oroblu Adele Tights with their small raised spots packed close together for a sophisticated look. Extremely soft against your skin, these 20 denier polka dot tights have a sublime matte finish so you can dress them up or down depending on your outfit. Just team these spotty tights with a white A-line dress and black platform pumps.

If you like that small spot look but want to add some colour, then we thoroughly recommend the Wolford Rice Dot Tights, made in a lighter 15 denier and available in nude with tiny raised purple dots. Made from the very finest of yarns, these luxury fashion tights have a sandal toe so you can wear them with any footwear you desire, even peep toe shoes!

For a more purse-friendly option, there is the budget busting Pamela Mann Sheer Dotty Tights in 20 denier, with their dainty dots available in a number of different shades including navy.

A classic look: this latest celeb spot proves that dots will never go out of fashion.

1)      Pamela Mann Bunny Ear Overknee Tights

Why? You only have to look at these adorable rabbit detail suspender tights to know why they’ve made the top three this month.  If you’re still not sure, we can’t help you.

Style With: A thigh skimming playsuit to make the most of the striking detail – make it work for day by adding wedge booties and a slouchy cardie.

Wear To: Parties – they’re a great conversation starter – plus what better way to make sure all eyes are on you as soon as you enter the room?

How Much? £9.99/$16.50/€12,00

wolford-merino-tights2)      Wolford Merino Tights

Why?  If you’ve treated yourself to the bunny ears option, chances are you’ll have pennies to spare.  Investing in the basics has always been our mantra, and it doesn’t get more classic than these luxury wool tights.  Made with an impressive 50% virgin merino wool, forget stocks and shares – these are the smartest investment you’ll make this winter.

Style With:  A versatile matte finish and classic Wolford design mean these will go with pretty much anything – why not try corduroy shorts, ankle boots and a wax jacket for that chic farmer feel?

How Much? £32.99 (available UK only)

moulin-rouge-high-heels-dotty-tights3)      Moulin Rouge High Heels Dotty Tights

Why?  We’ve always loved these back seam, polka dot sheers, but since we spotted Beyoncé rocking a replica at the Grammys while performing with hubbie Jay-Z, we’re OBSESSED with them.  The perfect blend of ladylike chic and fashion forward pizazz, AND an A List seal of approval – what’s not to like love?

Style With: A few more clothes than Beyoncé wore – try a skater dress with sheer or lace panels to keep an edge of sexiness, and skyscraper stilettos to continue the line of the seam and make your legs appear endless.

Wear To:  The office, if your dress code isn’t too strict – these will look great with a pencil skirt, too!

How Much? £12.00/$19.50/€14,50

What MyTights Wore – 11th October

Here at MyTights HQ, we’ve come to accept that we probably won’t experience sunshine for a good few months. Undeterred by the miserable drizzle and downpour, we’ve made it our mission to showcase our favourite hosiery styles, all day, everyday. Just take a look for yourself…

Laura pays tribute to trend of the season in her tartan skirt, styling it with a pair of must-have fishnet tights (Laura has even worn skin coloured sheers underneath to lock in the warmth, shh!)

Geometric & gorgeous, Laura has teamed her Jillian Tights from Oroblu are a must for AW! A near optical illusion, the patterned tights look great when styled with a shift dress and sweet courts.

The quirkiest tights around this season by a mile, the Bricking It Tights by Pretty Polly & Patternity are an office favourite! Far easier to style than you may have thought intially, the graphic tights are just one of the capsule range by the collaboration. Take note from Laura and wear yours with block colours and a statement necklace.

This season is still about all things spotty, so Hannah makes the most of this trend by letting her polka dot tights add charm to a sweet dress & jumper combo.

What MyTights Wore – 6th September

Judging by the forecast for the next few weeks, this week’s mini heatwave could well be our last taste of summer. But rather than dwelling on the drizzly weather to come, we’ve taken the opportunity to showcase our favourite transeasonal styles! From sweet socks to flattering sheers, we’ve tried them all at MyTights HQ!

Laura shows us that sundresses can be transformed into autumnal essentials, all thanks to sheer tights! Wearing the Falke Fond De Poudre Tights, Laura has chosen the anthracite shade as a softer alternative to black.

Pretty in polka dot tights! ?Hannah styles the ontrend pattern with her ballet flats for a chic, casual style.

Reminding us all how fabulous socks can look, Nix styles her black socks with Converse and a maxi dress.

Chic and classic, Laura wears her Pretty Polly Nylons Tights with a bright shift dress and patent courts. Add statement jewellery for a fun touch!

My Pick of Patterns!

Whilst the weather outside is becoming as reliable as a chocolate teapot, there’s only one thing I’ve got my eye on this week – new spring fashions. Never one to let a bit of snow deter me, I’m already dreaming of the fabulous hosiery that the sunnier & warmer season will bring with it.

For those avid readers of Laura’s Choice, it will come as no great surprise that I adore a bit of pattern, particularly of the colourful variety. Rather luckily for me, trends this season dictate that print is very much welcome, so I’m using this as the perfect excuse to get my hosiery drawer up to scratch.

First on my list – butterflies. It seems that this season, fashion has taken a rather holistic approach, paying homage to the glorious & great outdoors. With this comes the tribute to the beauty queen of the insect world, the butterfly. From a few to a full on rabble (I’ve done my research!), they’re perfect for adding a feminine touch to any ensemble. If you’re after a more demure style, go for the Trasparenze Belen Tights. As part of the SS13 range from the Italian brand, these sheer tights feature only a handful of the pretty little things, with a few hidden away on the brief. Styled with peep toes and a gorgeous chiffon skirt, even the most pattern-phobic amongst us will be converted!

For me, the cream of the crop has to be the Dream Tights from Jonathan Aston. Having selected them as one of my birthday favourites, I’ve been patiently waiting for the next batch of sunshine to appear so I can pull them on again. Adorning your pins from toe to brief with stitched butterflies, these tights add a fresh and fun feel to any outfit. Great for the office when teamed with a simple shift dress, you can also dress these versatile tights down at the weekend with a touch of denim.

Moving away from all things fluttery, the next pattern in my shopping basket has to be hearts. The last month has proved to us that the romantic motif is still going strong, as Burberry sent their models down the catwalk with gorgeous heart prints worth swooning over. Whilst the majority of us may not have their ready-to-wear collection at our disposable, we can still join in on the fun with the Pamela Mann Candy Hearts Tights. A near doppelgänger for the couture print, these opaques make a bold and beautiful statement that looks fab when paired with a trench (handy for those April showers) or for more fashion brownie points, a clashing animal print.

If you’re as dedicated to the sweet shapes as much as I am, seek heart print solace in the charming Celeste Stein Red Hearts Tights. Known as the ‘American Printcess’ to some, the brand are my go-to for quirky tights that will get those heads turning. By merging this season’s current obsession with all things white with dainty red hearts, these are a sure fire way to inject a playful, retro feel into your outfit and day.

And now for the last of my pattern trio – dots. And lots of them! Elegant, timeless and chic to name but a few, spotty tights have taken a permanent residence in my hosiery drawer for as long as I can remember. So versatile it sometimes borders on unbelievable, the celebrity following for the tights speaks volumes. But the pair of tights that has made me sit up and listen this week is the Bubbles Tights from Trasparenze.

Gorgeously charming, my favourite has to be the Multi colourway. Packed full of vibrant neon-pops, these will add a playful touch to even the most sombre of ensembles. I’ve always maintained that your legs should do the talking for you, and with these, you’ll never need to be the one to start the conversation!

So regardless of your pattern penchant or the temperamental weather outside (snow in March? Really?), make your print decisions now to stay ahead of the pack, keeping your wardrobe happy in the process.

Until next time…

Eva Mendes Hits the Spot

Hollywood actress, and star of new flick The Place Beyond the Pines, Eva Mendes has been spotted – pardon the pun – out and about in New York in not one, but two perfectly pretty polka dot ensembles… both of which were teamed with crochet style fashion tights.

There was a clear theme for the weekend: first Eva arrived at her hotel on Saturday in a

gorgeous vintage inspired pale brown dress covered in white polka dots, teamed with tough brown cheap viagra leather boots and belt and sweet open net tights.  Then she wore the same tights the following day with… more spots!  Opting this time for a ladybird patterned shirt dress with black accessories, the star took a Sunday stroll around the city – the perfect way to flaunt her patterned pins.

Not quite fishnet tights but more of a fine crochet design, you can get Eva’s leg look with the luxurious Falke Fine Square Tights, which have a fine mock fishnet design, or the Mary Portas & Charnos Spotty Net Tights (pictured).

What we love best about Eva’s style is that she shows how easy it is to pull off a chic, simple pattern.  Patterned tights needn’t be the preserve of the young, slim or beautiful (though Eva, we know, happens to be all three).  They’re as easy as plain opaques to wear if you stick to small, uniform, all over patterns in blacks, browns and other neutral shades – as well as being a whole lot prettier to look at!
