Taylor Swift: Our Hosiery Hero!

It’s no secret that the MyTights team have gone a little Taylor Swift crazy over the last few months. One look through this blog and you’ll be able to see just how much we adore her; she can’t put a foot wrong! Not only does she continually produce the catchiest of pop songs, she’s also a serious fashionista, in particular through her choice of legwear. Without doubt our biggest hosiery style crush, the best dressed legs in showbiz now come with a price, having been insured for a whopping £26 million pounds this week. To mark the occasion, we take a look back at some of her finest ensembles over the past few years and show you how you can copy her chic looks…

When Swifty did spots

Our eyes lit up when we saw these gorgeous spotty sheers from Taylor towards the end of 2014. Stepping out with a friend looking typically fresh and perfectly coiffed, Swift teamed her fashion tights with a pair of purple heels, simple black dress and gorgeous tweed overcoat. It goes without saying that we adored this look, so much so that we’ve been wearing polkadots ever since! Our favourites are the Pamela Mann Sheer Dotty Tights, with their choice of three colours and dainty dot design identical to Taylor’s herself!

Fierce in fishnets

Performing hit single Blank Space at the 2015 Brit Awards, the pop sensation teamed a fabulous tailored playsuit with heeled ankle boots and a pair of foxy fishnet tights. A far cry from her usual butter wouldn’t melt look, the classic fishnet design proved Swift can do sexy too! If you adored her look as much as us, the way to recreate it is with the Jonathan Aston Fishnet Tights. A classic pair of fishnets that will stand the test of time, these are the easiest way to add some sass into your wardrobe.

We remember just how excited we were when we spotted Taylor in this adorable outfit last autumn. An electric blue tweed overcoat, mustard dress and gorgeous burgundy opaques – we were floored! Accessorising with a burgundy trilby and matching handbag, Taylor nailed the trend for block colours to a tee. The way to recreate this look? With the Aristoc 80D Opaque Tights! Available in a similar shade of burgundy to Swifty’s herself, these thick opaques are the perfect way to add some colour to your outfit. Follow Taylor’s lead and opt for a bright day dress and vibrant accessories.

Perhaps our favourite Taylor look to date, the 25 year old wowed us all when she stepped out after a shop of retail therapy this winter wearing this divine ensemble! A lace sweater, tartan shorts and fabulous striped sheers, she showed everyone how to work patterned tights. If this has tickled your fashion tastebuds, the way to copy her look is with the Charnos Stripe Mesh Tights. A near carbon copy of Taylor’s look, these are brilliant for updating your classics.

£26 million? Worth every penny!

Taylor Swift in seams and spots: GET THE LOOK

Taylor Swift

Every inch the style superstar Taylor Swift

You’d have a hard time arguing against Taylor Swift being crowned the popstar of the moment. With new album 1989 selling more copies in three months than her previous (award winning, we should add) album Red has since its release in 2012, it’s fair to say that a lot of the media spotlight has been focused on Swift of late. Now, usually, with a baying mob of photographers following your every move, there would be occasions in which you look less than chic. Not Swifty, however! A big fan of using tights to enhance her look, she has an incredible ability to pull out endless perfectly styled outfits. Girl after our own heart!

This week’s look was no different, stepping out for a dinner date in a gorgeous vintage inspired ensemble. Covering up in a lovely camel coat, sweet clutch bag and heeled boots, all eyes were on Taylor’s fabulous fashion sheers, complete with pretty polkadots and a captivating striped seam along the outside leg. It comes as no surprise that we adored her legwear of choice, and we’ve been busily trying to recreate her look ever since…

Listen up; here’s how you can bring some vintage glamour even Taylor herself would be proud of to your own look…

Work Statement Style Like Gwen Stefani

Wolford Stella Tights

Wolford Stella Tights

You can always count on No Doubt songstress Gwen Stefani to challenge the style boundaries and pull out a combination of prints and colours us mere mortals wouldn’t even dream of, can’t you? Her quirky looks are constantly baffling the MyTights team. I mean they shouldn’t work, and we’re not saying that we’d try them ourselves by any means, but they always have a knack of looking great. This week was no different, either, with the Hollaback Girl singer opting for a grunge get-up, wearing a polkadot jumper with a check shirt tied round her waist and some seriously funky legwear. Cut off just above her ankle, her footless tights had an unusual vertical stripe design, with half the leg in black and the other in block white. While it’s not always necessary to go to such extremes to channel an alternative look, fashion tights are a fantastic (and affordable) way to stand out from the style pack. If you’re looking to take more risks with your legwear, our top 5 picks below will point you in the right direction…

 1) Wolford Stella Tights – similar to Gwen’s look in that they opt for a vertical stripe design, these gorgeous sheer tights from Wolford have a striking print on the outside leg, with a visually pleasing graphic stripe and finishing with a sewn in band at stay up height.

2) Jonathan Aston Katusha Tights – a great way to work stand-out fashion in the winter months, the Jonathan Aston fashion tights are made with 80% merino wool, keeping you snug and creating a ahead of the crowd look with their bold crocheted finish.

3) Oroblu Miss Tights – the perfect partner for your LBD, these 15 denier fashion tights have a unique polkadot pattern, continuing up the leg in a vertical fashion and ending with mock hold up tops for an original and sultry feel.

4) Fast at Jonathan Aston DV Stripes Tights – a collaboration between British favourites Jonathan Aston and the acclaimed fashion designer Mark Fast, these leg-lengthening 20 denier tights have a combination of chic sheer panels and opaque vertical sections – a guaranteed head turner!

5) Wolford Leonie Tights – a multitude of chic polkadots that increase in size as they descend down the leg and the choice of two colours, these sheer tights are a fantastic way to inject a quirky vibe into your day to night wardrobe.

We might not be Gwen, but we can give it a good go!

Seduced By Stripes: Taylor Swift Does It Again

taylor swiftAnother week, another blog about the legwear choices of global pop sensation Taylor Swift. This is becoming a bit of a habit, isn’t it? We know, we know… she no doubt has an array of stylists tending to her every move, but we’ve rarely come across a celebrity who manages to get it right as often as Taylor. This week, she was papped leaving the Cath Kidston store in Covent Garden in a lace roll neck jumper, tartan skirt and the pièce de résistance (for us at least), a pair of stripy sheer tights. The MyTights team have been cooing over her legwear ever since the photos hit the press earlier this week, and for good reason. Stripy tights are a fabulous way to update a tired outfit, and even better, if you opt for vertical stripes, they have a real leg lengthening quality, creating the illusion of never-ending pins.

We stock a fantastic selection of stripy hosiery at MyTights.com, sourced from a variety of bestselling brands and something for every style and budget. Here are our top picks…

  1. Charnos Stripe Mesh Tights – a style replica of Swifty herself, these 40 denier tights from British brand Charnos have a vertical stripe design and mesh structure for an elegant and lightweight legwear look. All you need is an LBD and you’re good to go…
  2. Oroblu Miss Tights – something for the fashionistas, these 15 denier tights have a flocked stripe design consisting of a multitude of polkadots, before merging into a racy mock hold up design. Sure to get the temperatures rising, choose between blue and black to perfectly complement your wardrobe!
  3. Pamela Mann Twicker Tights – fans of alternative fashion will adore these eye-catching opaque tights, featuring horizontal stripes for a stand out legwear look and a pop of colour, Available in no less than 5 vibrant shades!
  4. Jonathan Aston Illusion Socks – giving your skirts and dresses a super-cute style hit, these monochrome socks from Jonathan Astons feature a chevron style design and contrast tops. Perfect for channelling a chic daytime look.
  5. Pretty Polly Versatile Panelled Mesh Frontseam Tights – a contemporary twist on the sophisticated backseam… the frontseam! New in from Pretty Polly, these emsh tights are ideal for adding interest to a bland outfit. Perfect for a few cocktails!

So now everyone can channel a look that even Taylor would be proud of?

The Financial Times Loves MyTights

vertical-sheer-stripe-tights

Smashing the myth that an LBD is always the safe option, the Financial Times recently conducted a photo shoot with their models sporting high fashion black dresses with a selection of tights from Pamela Mann.

Even if the Moschino Cheap and Chic silk/polyester dress at ?695 is slightly out of your reach (more chic than cheap we?re thinking), fortunately the tights included in the feature come at a more reasonable price. To copy this look you can get our Moulin Rouge Palloni Tights, their reverse-spot style turns the classic polka dot look on its head.

Made from 40/20 denier these tights will keep you warm when you venture outside ? I recommend teaming with a polka dot dress in black with white spots and black patent heels for a co-ordinated look. The reinforced toe means that even if your makeup needs a touch up, your legs won?t ? thanks to the added durability you can dance the night away without a care! Fancy making a statement in the office? Team these striking sheers with a pencil skirt and white blouse for a dramatic yet elegant ensemble.

software design

The Chanel silk-organza dress featuring on trend appliqu? flowers was matched with our Pamela Mann Solid Sheer Stripe Tights ? the perfect blend of girly and dramatic. Getting the look is super easy – team these sheers with a black dress with a subtle floral print. The simplistic design is perfect for a high end fashion look, and again the reinforced toe means that even as the styles change your tights will last.

Do you wear patterned tights to spice up your LBD? Or do you prefer classic sheers?
