Seduced By Stripes: Taylor Swift Does It Again

Another week, another blog about the legwear choices of global pop sensation Taylor Swift. This is becoming a bit of a habit, isn’t it? We know, we know… she no doubt has an array of stylists tending to her every move, but we’ve rarely come across a celebrity who manages to get it right as often as Taylor. This week, she was papped leaving the Cath Kidston store in Covent Garden in a lace roll neck jumper, tartan skirt and the pièce de résistance (for us at least), a pair of stripy sheer tights. The MyTights team have been cooing over her legwear ever since the photos hit the press earlier this week, and for good reason. Stripy tights are a fabulous way to update a tired outfit, and even better, if you opt for vertical stripes, they have a real leg lengthening quality, creating the illusion of never-ending pins.

We stock a fantastic selection of stripy hosiery at MyTights.com, sourced from a variety of bestselling brands and something for every style and budget. Here are our top picks…

  1. Charnos Stripe Mesh Tights – a style replica of Swifty herself, these 40 denier tights from British brand Charnos have a vertical stripe design and mesh structure for an elegant and lightweight legwear look. All you need is an LBD and you’re good to go…
  2. Oroblu Miss Tights – something for the fashionistas, these 15 denier tights have a flocked stripe design consisting of a multitude of polkadots, before merging into a racy mock hold up design. Sure to get the temperatures rising, choose between blue and black to perfectly complement your wardrobe!
  3. Pamela Mann Twicker Tights – fans of alternative fashion will adore these eye-catching opaque tights, featuring horizontal stripes for a stand out legwear look and a pop of colour, Available in no less than 5 vibrant shades!
  4. Jonathan Aston Illusion Socks – giving your skirts and dresses a super-cute style hit, these monochrome socks from Jonathan Astons feature a chevron style design and contrast tops. Perfect for channelling a chic daytime look.
  5. Pretty Polly Versatile Panelled Mesh Frontseam Tights – a contemporary twist on the sophisticated backseam… the frontseam! New in from Pretty Polly, these emsh tights are ideal for adding interest to a bland outfit. Perfect for a few cocktails!

So now everyone can channel a look that even Taylor would be proud of?

Taylor Swift vs. Victoria Beckham – Who Wore It Best?

Victoria Beckham Wool

Both pop stars with a strong sense of style, one renowned for spreading “Girl Power” across the globe and the other for her many love songs based on real-life romances. Now the question that is on everyone’s lips is: which warbler has the best sense of style when it comes to wearing those charcoal opaque tights?

It takes courage to style opaque tights with strappy sandals, evoking images of the dreaded ‘socks and sandals’ style reserved for fashion victims, but La Beckham manages to make it work, much like Suki Waterhouse and her white opaque tights. Victoria gains fashion points in terms of her fashionable pleated skirt and stripe of shocking pink.

Back to black, Taylor Swift’s ensemble is also mainly classic noir except for the inclusion of those all important ash grey tights. Dressed in zipped up in a black tailored leather jacket, with matching skater skirt, leather ankle boots, umbrella and bag, Miss Swift shone in the rain.

Surely the best thing about both looks is that each is so easy to emulate being that they feature such staple pieces, so whichever one you prefer, stealing that style is a breeze – just use whatever you’ve already got in your wardrobe! The two outfits also demonstrate how to break up a solid black outfit in style. In terms of charcoal opaque tights, the world is your oyster, as there are practically 50 different shades of grey (sorry we couldn’t resist!).

Invest in a pair of the Wolford Velvet De Luxe 66 Tights in Anthracite (dark grey to non-colour aficionados) for opaque tights in 66 denier with a luxurious feel, matte finish, and applied plating technique ensuring that they will last and last. If your budget doesn’t match Victoria Beckham’s then take a look at the Pamela Mann 50 Denier Tights for a purse-friendly pair of opaque tights available in slate, a charcoal grey. Click on the link to take a peek at all our grey opaque tights.

As for the winner, we have to plump for Posh Spice this time. We love how she rocked those on-trend pleats and took a risk in terms of the open toed sandal shoe choice.  Victory for Victoria!

It’s a Lace Thing

ELLE Magazine Front Cover – September 2010

ellecover_jaWe knew that lace was back in style BIG TIME, from Edwardiana to the Gypsy Goth look, it’s been sneaking in everywhere. And we also knew that lace tights have been spotted on all the hottest trend-setters, from rock chic’s Peaches Geldoff, Taylor Momsen and Katy Perry, to the polished Olivia Palermo, Leighton Meester and Taylor Swift, and the uber-foxy Megan Fox, but then we saw this…

…Emily Blunt, when did you get so raunchy? The Devil Wears Prada star is just oozing sex appeal in this sensuous chiffon and lace combo. Looking like some sort of naughty Victorian courtesan, Blunt pulls this look off with effortless charm. Elle’s use of more mature contrasting colours, such as nude and black, has ensured that this outfit says both sexy and on-trend, rather than becoming trashy.

So, tossing the beautiful Ms Blunt aside for one second, the real star of the show is of course – drum roll please – Jonathan Aston’s Sweet Roses lace tights, as pictured this September cover of Elle Magazine. With their cut rose-inspired patterning they are elegant, individual, and above all oh-so feminine. Take a look at the whole of Jonathan Aston’s Vintage collection for lace hold ups and ankle socks too!

What’s so good about lace? I hear you cry. Well as much as your relationship with lace thus-far may have only gone as far as admiring your Grandma’s doilies’, or with the fussy bits on your bra – lace is actually a style classic. It’s a timeless way to add some delicate, and pretty charm to an outfit. But let’s not go mental, if you dress yourself in head-to-toe lace you will look like a cake.

Our tip for pulling this look off? JUST ADD A TOUCH, a pair of lovely lace tights with a little black dress is great, show a scandalous amount of leg while retaining your full dignity – perfect!
