Rock your Interview, in Style

When you are going to an interview, the last thing you want to do is lose yourself in a boring outfit. The purpose of an interview is for the employer to get a glimpse of who YOU are and your ensemble is the perfect way to show them that! We can’t think of a better way to look professional and stylish than with a trendy pair of tights! MyTights has loads of options for every type of style that will help you feel confident and nail that interview.oroblu-jillian-patterned-tights

Preppy

If you have a preppy style, then you are already know how to dress a bit more conservatively, which is perfect for interviews! You can use your classy style to your advantage by wearing a pencil skirt with a blazer or even a modest cut dress. However, don’t forget to add the finishing touches with the Wolford Rice Dot Tights to add a bit of texture to your simple look, a neutral or even lightly coloured pair of Jonathan Aston 40d Opaque Tights for a finished look, or you can also really impress the interviewer with the Oroblu Jillian Tights.

Edgy

With an edgy style, you are adventurous and stand out with your wardrobe, however, make sure that you still look professional. The best way to do this would be by wearing a blazer or even a pencil skirt and adding a fun pair of tights. The Pretty Polly Layered Honeycomb Tights add a unique touch to your ensemble and would even look great with a patterned chiffon shirt underneath a blazer for a contrasting patterned look. Also the Pamela Mann Baroque Tulle Tights and Jonathan Aston Tienga Tights are very unique and guarantee that you will stand out, but remember to pair with them with professional attire.

Glam

Every glam girl loves to accessorize and a pair of alluring tights are the perfect accessory for an interview. You already know how to make an accessory look fabulous, but remember it’s an interview so don’t go overboard. The Jonathon Aston Mimi tights and the Pamela Mann Linked Leaf Lace Tights are the perfect combination of funky and classy. The Jonathan Aston Stardust Tights are also a great option because they will add the perfect amount of sparkle to your interview and would complement a sparkly statement necklace!

Femininity is your specialty, so adding a pair of tights to your wardrobe probably isn’t a new concept. However, you can enhance your style by adding a simple floral element to your interview with the Wolford Mimi Tights or a lace floral texture with the Jonathan Aston Rosy Tights. Also, no girly girl can resist a pair of black polka dot tights, and the Moulin Rouge Dot Tights are just that and look great with just about anything.

No matter your style, MyTights has loads of tights that will help you make a first impression that says “hire me” at your interview—but don’t forget to prepare for the questions too!

Laura’s Choice: SS14 Trends

I love watching new looks emerge on the catwalk, but what’s even better is seeing how they translate on the high street – and of course how they’re reflected in the world of hosiery!  With the official arrival of spring last week, I’ve decided it was high time I shared with you some of my favourite trends for SS14, along with some inspiration on how to wear them… tienga-patterned-tights

Trend: Geometric Patterns

Seen at: House of Holland, Peter Pilotto

If you want to get away with patterns at the office, go for a small, all over design, like the Pretty Polly Layered Honeycomb Tights.  Team these with a pencil skirt and knee high boots and you’ll reveal just a flash of pattern as you walk – the ultimate grown up way to work the trend.  For the younger and bolder, a short A-Line skirt and plain cropped jumper will show off bold designs like the bondage style Pamela Mann Gridlock Sheer Tights, or create a fashion forward clash effect by donning the tribal-inspired Jonathan Aston Tienga Tights with a skater dress in a contrasting pattern.

Trend: Embellishments

Seen at: Mui Mui, Prada, Marc Jacobs

wolford-mimi-tights

Embellishments are back again, following on from last year’s Great Gatsby craze when everyone went mad for a little bling.  The best bit is embellished tights are so easy to wear, whether you choose to dress them up or down.  Try teaming something subtle like the Pamela Mann 120D Studded Tights with your regular office skirt and classic blouse, or for all out glamour go for something extra glitzy like the Trasparenze Party Tights, which are adorned with a trail of sparkly butterflies up the leg.  Mirror the sparkle with a statement necklace and voila!  A party ready look in an instant.

Trend: Florals

Seen at: House of Holland, Jonathan Saunders, Erdem

Florals are a spring staple, so you can stick with tradition and wear the Wolford Mimi Tights with summery pastel shades – the sweet floral side seam will instantly put spring in your step.  Or for an edgier way to wear them, oriental inspired styles like the Pamela Mann Flocked Rose Tights and the Jonathan Aston Rosy Tights will work really well with casual attire and a lashing of leather.

Trend: Lace

pamela-mann-baroque-tulle-tights

Seen at: Stella McCartney, Burberry Prorsum, Chanel, Marc Jacobs

Lace for spring is a revelation for me – I’d always thought of it as very much a winter staple, but who am I to argue with Chanel?  For a really up to the moment look team the Pamela Mann Baroque Tulle Tights with a jersey midi skirt, slouchy t-shirt, anklet booties and a long statement necklace… but I’ll be sticking to my tried-and-tested shift dress and Wolford Nahla Tights combination!

Trend: Sheer

Seen at: Christian Dior, PPQ, Maxmara

Sheer black tights are the hit of the season, with fashionistas from Alexa Chung to Miranda Kerr flying the flag for the shadowy sheers.  The best thing about them? They go with EVERYTHING, from floral sundresses to lace bodycons, and even city shorts and blazer pairings. A sheer 10-20 denier style is the ideal way to work the look – try my much loved Oroblu Sensuel Tights, which feel super soft to the touch and come in a huge range of colours if you’d rather branch out from black.  Or for a little more coverage, go for a 30 denier pair like the Calvin Klein Ultra Fit 30D High Waisted Tights (which have an in built control, top, too – perfect for form fitting dresses).

Until next week…

TRENDS THAT DO THE WALKING

As the seasons change, so do hosiery trends, and Michele Duncan, Marketing Manager at INVISTA, the company that owns the LYCRA® fibre brand, takes us through the company’s predicted legwear trends for 2014 / 2015…

Here at INVISTA we love spending time researching fashion trends around the globe and as a result we’ve compiled a range of styles we believe we will be just as popular on the high street as they will be on the catwalk.

Also, we’re proud that the presence of LYCRA® fibre means that our legwear products are fashionable and ultra-comfortable – leaving us ladies to enjoy the day in style!

beauty-lab-leggings

Beauty Lab

Using brave experiments to create contouring for constructive silhouettes, Beauty Lab is about concentrating on how to build a perfect body. Through the use of a minimalist palette to enhance silhouettes, this trend gives a hint of science by showing a touch of mathematics and robotics in the designs. This results in flattering legwear created by linear grids, dashed lines and highlighted body parts. Beauty lab trend leggings with LYCRA® fibre >>

do-the-twist-leggings

Do the Twist

Do the Twist is all about making traditional and iconic patterns relevant for a new generation of legwear consumers by adding a playful twist and an element of surprise to ordinary legwear. Using popular patterns that are made to look as though they have been cut up and pasted back together again, this creates a series of geometrically composed hosiery items displaying surprising novelty in a monochrome palette. Do the Twist trend LYCRA® fibre leggings >>

made-to-fit-you-tights

Raw and Wild

Raw and Wild uses surfaces that are inspired by nature’s organic surfaces and wild animal skins using earth tones as the main palette. Reflecting a raw rusticity, this trend includes motifs that look as if they were touched by time and the elements, with legs matching rustic heathers and marls and tweeds that are on trend for the coming seasons. Raw and Wild trend MADE TO FIT YOU tights with LYCRA® SOFT COMFORT fibre >>

montmartre-trend-tights

Montmartre

Montmartre is inspired by the belle-époque spirit of Toulouse Lautrec’s Montmartre. This trend alludes to the boudoir through the use of ribbons and lace and is complimented by the soft and silky texture. This trend creates a feeling of nostalgia and ensures that the hosiery looks sophisticated. Montmartre trend LYCRA® fibre tights >>

Cabaret

cabaret-trend-knee-highs

The Cabaret trend demonstrates ‘cancan’ looks that are pretty and lavish, reviving the spirit of music halls and chorus lines and celebrating the audacity of couture. Made up of a vibrant palette that allows legs to take the lead, parading the stages with frivolous details, extravagant ruffles and ruches, the contrast of jet black and lipstick red makes for passionate plains as well as seductive patterning. Cabaret trend LYCRA® 3D knee highs >>

Athletic Chic

athletic-chic-tights

As the name suggests, this is legwear for the fast-paced, athletic and chic woman who wants powerful design that is intended to be noticed.  This legwear shows racy geometrics, juxtaposed with sheers, daring slashes and open works. By using LYCRA® fibres to pair smooth translucency with mirrored foils, electric blues and cosmetic pales, smooth curves and bold colour blocks, these garments really stand out.

Creative Energy

creative-energy-tights

Inspired by design experimentation, this trend entertains one-off patterning and playful creativity connected to cutting-edge technology. Its design inspiration comes from digital screens, glitches, grids and graphs with its rhythm and symmetries broken by wide angles and sharp facts.

Carole Middleton: Game Changer, Opinion Divider, Fashionista

carole-middleton-patterned-tights-zoomA few days ago, Royal in-law Carole Middleton was snapped in demure patterned tights, and instantly made waves in the fashion world, sparking fierce debate with fashion critics everywhere to criticise her style for being “too young”.

how to save money on electric bill

MyTights sprang to her defence in our blog – and lo and behold, a few days later everyone is changing their tune and decided that her look is actually rather fabulous – which must mean that MyTights is now the go to experts on all things fashion (probably).

Not only have the Daily Mail published a guide to patterned tights, everywhere we turn there’s someone quoting Vogue as saying that “fashion tights are back”.  Woman and Home Style Director, Angela Kennedy, agrees with us too: “No age is the wrong age to wear black patterned tights – it’s all about having the right legs and the confidence to carry them off.”  Hear hear!

The perfect transitional piece to take you from winter coat to sundress in style, a classic pair of patterned tights will go with everything in your wardrobe, as well as giving you a little coverage when it’s still too cold to contemplate bare legs.  Here’s our round up of the Daily Mail’s guide on how to rock patterned tights, whatever your style… so now you’ve got no excuse!

Catwalk Queens

Those who like to nod towards high fashion in their sartorial choices should look toward the Mad Men era this season in subtle, sexy seamed tights Feeling brave?  Animal print tights are sure to make a statement and never seem to go out of fashion.

Embellished Princesses

Keep the rest of your look simple and understated – a simple LBD with minimal jewellery is perfect – and go statement with a gorgeous pair of embellished tights.  Think sequins, sparkle and everything in between.

Workaholic Fashionistas

Patterned tights to the office isn’t as much of a no-go as you might think – the trick is to keep it simple.  Try a very fine pattern in a surprising shade, or go for a classic, like polka dot tights.

Curvy Goddesses

No bright colours and no fishnet designs, says the DM, which can often be unflattering on larger legs.  Instead opt for ribbed tights styles which streamline your shape and make your legs appear endless.

MyTights Dazzles at Underlines’ Star Awards 2013

Last night a groomed, preened, and generally spruced up MyTights headed to the Underlines Star Awards 2013 – an industy event hosted by Underlines lingerie trade magazine, held this year at the super swish Cumberland hotel in London.  The night celebrates the best in the world of lingerie, hosiery and swimwear, and in the words of Underlines’ Managing Editor, the awards “were created in 2007 to recognise and reward entrepreneurial skill, innovation and experience in these specialised sectors. Particularly aimed at independent stores, the event highlights the resilience, competence and flair of retailers across the UK and Ireland.”

With top names like Figleaves, House of Fraser and Fenwicks all nominated for awards, and with 264 retailers and 24 brands represented, there’s no denying the competition was fierce.  But we should have known that when it comes to what makes MyTights really special – Team MyTights and our customers – we are one of the best in our field, and so it proved.  From 380 nominations in total, MyTights was one of 11 winners – for Best Specialist Etailer – and runner up in the hosiery retailer of the year award, too (we weren’t too disappointed, though, as we lost out to Fenwicks whose hosiery buyer Sue knows everything there is to know about tights).

Award

A super snazzy trophy was duly handed over by Paul Ross (brother of Jonathan, in case you were wondering) – the cherry on top of a fantastic evening which started with a champagne reception, continued with a fabulous four course meal and finished with wine, music and dancing.  Needless to say, an amazing night was had by all (we heard a whisper that founder Laura didn’t get home until 2am)!

We are so proud to have won recognition from those who really know their stuff in the industy, and want to say a massive thank you to everyone at Underlines, to Invista for having us as their guests, and to Team MyTights for their dedication, talent and sheer hard graft.  And of course to you, our customers.  Without your passion for hosiery, honest feedback and unwavering loyalty none of this would be possible.

Oh, and in case you were wondering – Suzanne is wearing the Charnos Lurex Spot Opaque Tights in Black/Gold, and Laura the Falke Seidenglatt 70 Tights in Marine.

Dotty Tights Are Back!

katy perry sheer dotty glamourHope you haven’t gotten sick of this sheer tights trend, because it is refusing to fade away! I absolutely love this trend. Sheer dotty tights are extremely easy to wear, and can be dressed up or down for any occasion. Here we have Katy Perry rocking the trend with some funky shoes and a funky sweater.

For Katy’s look, the Pamela Mann Sheer Dotty Tights in Black/Black are a perfect match. They really look great in anything. The dots are so subtle that you can even play around with mixing prints and bold outfits. Wear it with an everyday work outfit and it’ll add an extra something to your look.

If you’re looking for a little more glamour, I recommend the Moulin Rouge High Heels Dotty Tights. They’re just like other dotty tights but with a backseam and extended heel design, making sure you’ll stand out no matter what. A glittery top and some show-stopping heels will bring these tights to their full potential.

The spotty tights options on MyTights.com are almost endless. With so many different pairs with different sized spots, different colors, and different added features, it’ll be hard to choose just one!

Halloween Is Nearly Here!

741_nph_425Halloween is quickly approaching and I’m sure the little ones are starting to get really excited! Some celebrities are already starting to share pictures of their little kids all dressed up for the holiday. Neil Patrick Harris of the show How I Met Your Mother recently posted an adorable pic of this family in Alice in Wonderland themed costumes. The precious little Harper was dressed up as Alice, wearing some cosy-looking white children’s tights!

Tights can be pretty crucial on Halloween. Costumes can be so skimpy for little kids, some tights like Country Kids Warmer Cotton Children’s tights can help keep their legs warm! They come in plenty of colours so they’ll be sure to match whatever costume your little one wears, and come in a range of sizes for any age child – from newborn to 11 years. The lighter colours can be great for a little princess costume, or try a darker colour for a scary outfit!

No matter what your little girl decides to dress up as this year, tights will be sure keep her warm and cosy – and looking great as well!

Top Five Control Tights

SuperHighShapingSheersControl Top tights are just like other tights – but with a sneaky little secret. They look like your average sheers, but have shapewear technology built into the tops, helping you look your best no matter what you wear them with! It’s a great product for lovers of shapewear and an effortless way to smooth your shape. Celebrities adore them, with even royalty like Princess Beatrice being spotted in them! The popularity of control tights has really exploded from this, resulting in a huge selection to choose from, and we know that so much choice can sometimes prove confusing.  But don’t worry, we’ve picked out some of the best control tights on MyTights.com for you!

Best Sheers

Spanx is one of the most recognized names in shapewear, so it’s little wonder that their control tights have made our list. Spanx In Power Line Super High Shaping Sheers are on the higher spectrum of control, so you can really count on them to keep you looking super svelte. The high waist and ultra flat seams will make sure that these lovely tights will be completely undetectable.

Best Opaques

If you’re looking for comfort and a little warmth during these chilly fall months, look no further than the Calvin Klein Ultra Fit 80 Denier Shaper Tights. These offer a lighter control that promises not to restrict, and come in a few colours to play around with. These tights are super soft and made to lie flat against the body so you can wear them with even the tightest dress. Strong enough for everyday wear, but perfect for looking fabulous on a night out!

Best Funky Fashion

Want to look trendy AND slim? Then give the Pretty Polly Shape It Up Suspender Tights a try. The medium control will make sure to do everything you need these control tights to do – flattening your tummy, smoothing hips, you name it! These incredibly fashionable tights will keep you in tune with the ever-popular suspender tights trend, and will make sure that you look as great as you feel.

Best Elegant Fashion

Aristoc took control tights to another level – they added leg support to help circulation in the Aristoc Bodytoners Fashion Toner Tights. Featuring medium strength control and support and a touch of silk, you’ll be feeling wonderful in these tights no matter how long your day was! Let’s not forget the lovely diamond pattern design that can easily be taken from the office to the party, too.

Best Body Perfector

This next pair of tights really is the complete package. The Charnos Killer Figure Emana Control Tights do more than just keep you looking slim. So technologically advanced I find it hard to believe it isn’t just magic, these tights are proven to reduce cellulite, increase skin elasticity, and improve collagen. Using very special yarns to help blood flow in the legs, Charnos has really outdone itself in creating these one-of-a-kind control tights!

Check out MyTights.com for even more control tights and get ready to say bye-bye to lumps and bumps!

Hosiery Must Haves for AW13!

With cooler temperatures comes to the need to revamp your wardrobe, which can only mean one thing. New hosiery!  Any excuse to update my collection is fine by me, but it seems that this year, AW13 trends are stronger than ever. Purse friendly and space effective (leaving more room for shoes!), on trend legwear is a must for anyone wanting to stay ahead of the fash pack.

Autumnal Hosiery at MyTights

Top of the trends this time round is colour blocking. Bright and fun, colour pop hosiery is perfect for defeating grey skies and gloomy moods in seconds. Seen at Anna Sui and Vivienne Westwood, the key is to pull the shade through the entire outfit, roping in accessories to make the look wearable. Of course, top to toe is far from subtle, so it’s important to graduate the tone, mixing textures and finishes for a grown up colour block. I personally love brown tights as a soft alternative to black, but for a look inspired by Anna Sui, treat your hosiery drawer to a red hued opaque, just like the Trasparenze Gennifer Merino Wool Tights in Rubino or even the Jonathan Aston 40D Opaques in Scarlet. Rouge not your cup of tea?

Discover your favourite shade from our range coloured tights (we got more than 60 colours!) and build your outfit from there. If you’re still struggling to embrace the all in one shade, then let shoes & bags echo your choice of colour instead, leaving a black shift dress to tie in the colour.

And from rainbow tints to jungle fever, it seems that the fashion world can’t get enough of animal print this season. From zebra print at Burberry to leopard print at Jean Paul Gaultier, the safari inspired pattern is the simplest way to jazz up an understated LBD or tired pencil skirt. For those who covet the leg limelight, opt for the Animalia Tights from Wolford. A favourite of mine, the luxurious and loud semi-opaques are a combination of leopard-like squiggles and tiger inspired stripes. Complete with a super soft feel that is to be expected with Wolford tights, these are great for teaming with a black mini skirt and simple polo neck. For those seeking a subtler approach, the Legend Leggings from Trasparenze are a must. Admittedly a tad risqué from first impressions, the fierce leggings are easily tamed with some clever styling, letting you dress them up or down depending on the occasion.

JAutumnal Hosiery at MyTights

Completing the trio of trends is just about anything netted. From socks to tights to even gloves (yes, gloves!), designers and stylists alike have fallen for fishnet tights. With heavyweight names such as YSL and Jean Paul Gaultier embracing the style, I think it’s high time for a re-stock of my favourite products.  For those seeking an everyday pair, I recommend the gorgeous Levante Fishnet Tights. With a matte finish and no visible reinforcement to hinder wardrobe decisions (these are already durable enough on their own merits!), these are great. Going under every hemline without a hitch, these are perfect for dancers and performers too. For a little more flair, treat your wardrobe to the Margaret Tights from Oroblu. Packed full of charm and a quirky cut out detail, the netted tights are a flirty take on the classic design.  Simply team with a hemline that will frame the cut out and keep accessories minimal.

If you’re still craving more AW inspiration, tartan and leather are also hotly tipped for the season. For tartan tips when it comes to hosiery, read my Laura’s Choice from last week. Fans of the leather look needn’t fret either, as the Leather Look Leggings by Pamela Mann offer a high drama dose of the style. A firm favourite of the red carpet elite, leather leggings look fab when worn under an oversized jumper or, for the more adventurous, with a cropped blazer.
Until next time!So there you have it! The easiest way to update your wardrobe, without upsetting your bank balance…
