Laura’s Choice: Top Trends!

Now the fashion weeks have come to a close and we don’t find ourselves continually refreshing the websites of just about every fashion magazine in existence, we’ve taken some time to consider what the key trends are likely to be for the upcoming months. In typical MyTights style, we’ve gone one step further, not only highlighting the key trends but letting you know how you can recreate them at the drop of a hat. Just call us your very own personal shoppers…

Trend 1: Coloured Opaques

Coloured opaques were quite simply everywhere, from London to New York and even making a stopover in both Paris and Milan. It seems like the fashion world has gone crazy for coloured tights, and rightly so in our opinion. Capable of updating your look and reigniting your love for that dress you bought 5 years ago and have never worn, why stick to black?

Winner: Pamela Mann 50 Denier Tights

There could only be one winner in this category for us. Forever finding their way on to our bestsellers list, these 50 denier tights come in no less than 20 beautiful colours, from classic shades of black and navy blue through to the delights of daffodil yellow. There really is no better way to make your outfits look good as new, and coming in at just £4.95 a pair, you’d have a hard time arguing against treating yourself to a pair of these.

Runner up: Falke Pure Matt 50D Tights

Coming in at a very close second place, German brand Falke have taken the trend for colour and added a luxury quality in a way that only Falke can. Available in seven colours and boasting a matte finish, they’ll stand the test of time and offer you a fun and colourful style day in, day out.

Trend 2: Fishnets

Fishnets are never far from the top of my hosiery drawer, so I was thrilled to see them enjoying a ‘fashion moment’ on the catwalks. Whether worn on their own or layered over some funky coloured tights, nets are the perfect way to take your wardrobe favourites from drab to fab.

Winner: Trasparenze Rita Fishnet Tights

One of my must have hosiery styles, rarely a week goes by where I don’t pull on a pair of these fishnets. With a slightly larger net than would be considered traditional, they’re brilliant for layering over coloured tights or fashion styles and adding some sophistication to your look without giving too much away. I’m not ashamed to say I own a pair in every colour, and so should you!

Runner up: Jonathan Aston Oxygen Tights

Landing in our offices just a few weeks back, the Jonathan Aston Oxygen Tights are perfect for those of you who like to stay on trend but create an individual look at the same time. Nobody could argue against these tights being net, but the art deco design and quirky look makes them a fashionistas dream.

Trend 3: Spots

Wolford Poppy Tights

We weren’t surprised in the slightest to see spots making their mark on the catwalks, having been the pattern of choice of the A-list for months. Decorating the legs of every single model at Diane von Furstenberg (New York) and Giles (London), dots are the best way to stay on trend while retaining an elegant look. I’ve fallen hook, line and sinker for them!

Winner: Wolford Poppy Tights

Incorporating hundreds of tiny dots but with a whimsical Wolford twist, these 20 denier tights are covered in asymmetrical spots that will send the double takes in your direction. With the spots being denser at the ankle and dispersing as they ascend up the leg, these fashion sheers succeed at being feminine yet funky.

Runner up: Oroblu Adelle Tights

More of a classic polkadot style and one I’ve worn countless times, these 10 denier tights have an all over dotty design that adds a delicate and charming touch to your wardrobe. Understated enough for work and stylish enough for a night out, take your pick between black and navy blue.

Trend 4: Wet Look

Trasparenze Callophrys Leggings

Trasparenze Callophrys Leggings

As much as we’ve admired wet look styles over the years, they’ve never really had their big fashion break, sticking firmly in the wardrobes of the likes of Kate Moss. Until now that is! Even appearing at Saint-Laurent and dressing the legs of Beyonce in recent weeks, a vampy style awaits us all.

Winner: Trasparenze Callophrys Leggings

All the merits of a traditional legging but with a high shine finish to enhance your glamour credentials, the lightweight finish and elastic waistband make them brilliantly comfortable to boot. Great with oversized tees and tunics, bringing out your inner rock chick has never been easier.

Runner up: Pamela Mann Wet Look Leggings

Made in a mock leather fabric, these ultra-shiny leggings are your go-to option for bring a grunge-glam twist to your look. Cut off at the ankle and far more comfortable than the skin-tight fit would suggest, pair them with a longline statement tee and heeled ankle boots.

Who knew being on trend could be this simple?

Until next time…

Spring/Summer 2012: Everything you need to know about the Top Trends this season…

MyTights.com was lucky enough to attend an event last week where we heard a talk from Jessica Markwood, of fashion website osoyou.com, on the key trends for SS12.  We’ve pulled together a round-up of the key trends this season and how to wear them…

PRINTS: AS SEEN AT D&G

This spring it’s not just about the trend for florals that comes round each year (although hang on to your floral accessories to team with pastel basics).  But there are new, bolder prints around, such as abstract graphics and scarf print, as well as quirky tropical prints.

1920S: AS SEEN AT MARCHESA

Hurah!  It’s time to dig out your drop waist dresses again, because the 1920s is back for another season.  For the ultra-hip, you might want to try the pajama look for a new take on the 1920s trend.  Or if you’re not quite there, 1920s staples like embellishment, fringing and super-luxe fabrics like chiffon and silk in neutral colours like pale gold and dusty pink will do the trick nicely, too.

SPORTS LUXE: AS SEEN AT ALEXANDER WANG

This trend can be quite tricky to pull off if you don’t really know what you’re doing, but once you get the idea it’s really easy.  Just think clean lines and lots of white with flashes of neon and sports fabrics, but don’t go overboard.  For example, perk up a beautifully cut white linen shift with Emilio Cavallini’s Neon Seamed Sheers – and get some high we

dge trainers to make the look work for day and night.

TRIBAL: AS SEEN AT MISSONI

Tribal comes back every summer and so it’s a great trend to invest in, rather than going for cheap basics.  Tribal inspired prints look great when layered with white cotton and tan leather – and old season maxi dresses/skirts, waistcoats and peasant blouses can all be dug out for another round in the fashion ring.

UNDERWATER: AS SEEN AT CHANEL

This surreal trend is perhaps the most exciting this season, partly thanks to Karl Lagerfeld’s amazing sea-scape at the Chanel SS 12 show.  With this trend, you can (finally!) rock sequins for daytime – blue and silver work best – and team them with pale pastel colours in sheer, chiffony fabrics.  And anything with pearls goes – as demonstrated by the Chanel models’ pearl belts, necklaces and hairpins.  Romantic spring styling at its best!

Get the Look: The Bebaroque Tigerlily 80 Denier Tights are sparkly and perfect in purple for creating an underwater vibe, or to modernise the pearl trend take a look at the Henry Holland Pearly Suspender Tights.  Failing that, anything in blue or silvery grey will complete your look to perfection!
