Everyone remembers their first time and I’m not talking about boys and kissing and all that kind of stuff. I mean those first significant purchases; the dream handbag, the grown up little black dress and for me, my first pair of luxury tights. They were Wolford, 40 denier and matt black and when I put them on I was one of those girls in the Robert Plant video. It’s a little buzz that I can still get each time I open a new packet and put on a new pair. There is simply nothing like it and that’s why Wolford remains everyone’s dream tights.

Dots, spots, dabs, call them what you will, they are the most wearable of all new ‘classic’ day to night designs. Immortalized during the second World War when girls with no access to hosiery hand drew spots onto their legs, Wolford has capitalized on our love of spots. The subtle Wolford Sun Dots Tights, a very sheer 20 denier weave with a tiny all over black spot are both completely sheer to the waistband, with just a slim hand stitched ribbon waistband finishes off both of these designs.
Speaking of classics, Wolford Twist Tights are, in my view, the next ‘biggie’ on the horizon. Featuring a beautiful, delicate floral swirl pattern from the toe to the top of the thigh, this is definitely a wearable day design. The 20 denier sheer nude background serves only to highlight the design. Worn with sawn off denims and a Led Zepplin t-shirt, this look is absolutely now. Teamed with a timeless dress (think Roland Mouret’s ‘Galaxy’) this design will look futuristic. Current fans include Cheryl Cole, Jessie J and Lady Gaga.
Think sweet as sugar, think Wolford Ribbon Tights, a dainty 20 denier nude or black sheer with button sized ribbons embroidered from the toe to the thigh. A very wearable day look which can be teamed with some of the lovely grown up looks of the forthcoming Autumn season, you can also capitalize on the retro undertones of this design and go the whole hog with a vintage dress and kitten heels. The slight sheen of both the nude and black options also make this a perfect day to evening design and have been sported by Dita Von Teese amongst others.
Now Wolford Tiger Tights are technically evening legwear, yet I can’t help wondering how they might look with a very severe city suit. They would certainly shake up the institution! This is a great design and perfect for anyone that likes a bit of animal print. The 20 denier, matte finish sheer gives the impression of nude skin, which when overlaid with a visually stunning sharp black tiger print is just downright sexy. Bet Lynch eat your heart out.
After dark we can really push the boat out with design and one of the most visually stunning new designs is Wolford Captivate Tights. A striped pattern that looks like slim ribbons criss-crossed around the leg to create a sexy bondage look, you need a solid coloured dress or separates to really highlight this design. Another geometric stunner is the Wolford Paradise Peacock Tights which have as many curves as the Wolford Cativate Tights have straight lines. Wolford Paradise Peacock Tights feature a pattern of oversized, stylised peacock feathers from the toe to the waist. Both bold and beautiful this is definitely another design that needs no competition from the clothes you wear with it.
The past season trend for ankle boots and socks has already been picked up by several hosiery companies who have done it well, but make way for Wolford Flame Tights which show off in full glory, the brilliance of the company’s design team. A matte black foot which rises to just above the ankle in a ribbon like sea of flames, the tights then continue up the leg in a beautiful 20 denier nude finish that really shows off the detail. Wearable during the day, this has become one of my evening favourites, teamed with a short dress and minimal accessories. This is a look that has already been picked up by celebrities such as Alexa Chung and Florence Welch.
Staying with the boots theme, Wolford Brilliant Tights just ooze incredible design, something that the company has built its reputation on. Looking exactly like black thigh high lace back boots, the 100 denier tights feature hand stitched ribbon lacing from ankle to thigh overlaid over a nude background that rises up the back of the leg and from thigh to waist. Ingenious. These are the couture of tights.
