TREND ALERT: Neon Pink (yes, really- Kate Spade says so)

Move over, Mint.  Get lost, Lilac.  There’s a new colour trend in town, and it looks as though it’s here to stay…

The perfect antidote to the spring pastels that dominate the catwalks year on year, there was a mini revolt being staged at the Kate Spade show at New York Fashion Week where neons were the name of the game.  Kate Spade’s Creative Director Deborah Lloyd told the press that the inspiration for the Fall/Winter show was “when you first come to the city” – which explained the big yellow taxi that formed the backdrop of the show.

Neon pink was the lynch pin of the

show, accented with flashes of taxi-inspired neon yellow and polka dots.  But this wasn’t the first we’d heard of the neon trend – the Spring/Summer catwalks

had been bursting with the shade, from hot pink macs at Burberry Prorsum to neon pink tutu dresses at Oscar De La Renta.  Our favourite looks from the show included the pink fluorescent tights paired with a black and white polka dot dress and the candy smock with a kitsch jelly bean style print that was teamed with black spotty tights, fuchsia heels and a neon yellow clutch emblazoned with the word TAXI.

Colour popping is easy if you get balance right.  Either accessorize by adding a neon clutch, heels or hosiery to a neutral, “blank canvas” outfit, or go half neon, half basic – a crisp white tee looks amazing over neon pink skinny jeans.  Try the Pamela Mann 80 Denier Tights in Flo Pink with a white shirt dress, black blazer and neon yellow satchel for a fashion forward showing; or else add a hint of neon to a chic grey wrap dress with the Pamela Mann Fishnet Tights in either Flo Pink or Flo Yellow.  For the really colour shy, slick on a neon lip or nail polish to bring any look into the new season.

With a rainbow of shades you’re spoilt for choice – so if you only do one thing this season, make sure you colour pop your way to sartorial superiority with the collection of neon tights at
