Why Do Your Legs Swell And Get Tired?
Due to the force of gravity, blood naturally falls to your ankles. When you are walking around the muscles in your legs act as a pump and help your blood move against gravity, back to your heart.
If however, you are stationary all day i.e. standing or sitting, this does not happen and you can end up with tired legs and swollen ankles.
How Do Energising Socks Work ?
Energising Socks are designed with graduated compression. i.e. the compression
level varies along your leg, with the highest level of compression at your
ankles and less on your calves, thereby encouraging the blood back up your
legs. Effectively your legs are being massaged all day long leaving you feeling
revitalised. The graduated compression is provided by the stretch of the
Lycra® and the knitting construction of the socks.
In the study it was found that a compression of 12mmHg at the ankle (decreasing to 8mmHg at the calf) was found to be optimal to maximise the benefits of the Energising Socks whilst feeling comfortable.
For the socks to work, they need sufficient elasticity at specific points for perfect fit and functionality. This is provided by the use of Lycra® in their construction.
