Study by Free University Medical Centre, Amsterdam*

Tests were carried out on 118 healthy volunteers (60 male, 58 female, average age 39). Participants were asked at the start of the study whether they currently experienced tired legs, swollen ankles or other discomfort in their legs. The impact of wearing different compression socks (6, 14 & 18mmHG) was measured over a three week period. The volunteers legs were measured at the start and end of each working day to ascertain the level of swelling, they were also required to provide feedback on how their legs felt.

Reduced Swelling In Legs

Energising Socks It was found that the legs of healthy people experienced swelling on a daily basis, by 2.3% for women and 1.6% for men.

During the study it was found that the higher the compression of the socks worn the greater the reduction in swelling of legs. Men in particular experienced the greatest decline of 37%.

Reduction in the number of Tired and Heavy Legs Complaints

Energising Socks The chart on the right shows the percentage of complaints made by the testers at the start of the study and when they wore wearing socks with a compression of 6mmHg 14mmHg and 18mmHg.

The volunteers found that their legs felt significantly less tired and heavy after wearing compression socks for the day.

Energising Socks Perfect Fit of Socks

Whereas normal socks have the irritating tendency to fall down the whole time, compression socks rarely do. However the higher the level of compression the tighter they will feel on your legs and there will be a point where this becomes uncomfortable. Therefore Energising socks from Lycra® are actually only 12mmHg at which point comfort and compression are maximised. NB The larger the circumference of your legs the tighter the socks will feel on your legs (and the greater the level of compression provided).

DVT

Energising socks are meant for healthy people who are thinking about the well being of their selves and want to proactively look after themselves. The Amsterdam study evaluated compression socks on healthy individuals on the ground rather than in the air. Anyone with concerns about DVT should consult a doctor.

People particularly at risk from Deep Vein Thrombosis are those who have the following characteristics: All information has been provided and verified by Lycra®
