What are the different types of products available?
MyTights.com has six product categories; Tights, Control Top Tights, Hold Ups, Stockings, Knee Highs & Socks and Other/Accessories.

What do these all mean?

  • Tights go the whole way up to the waist. The most attractive tights to look at are either sheer to waist or V-line brief (boxer briefs are generally less sexy).

  • Control Top Tights hold in the tummy and can also provide bottom up lift as well. They are great under slinky dresses. It may not however be very tactful for you to buy mega strong control top tights!
  • Both Hold Ups and Stockings stop mid thigh, stockings however need a suspender belt to hold them in place, whilst hold ups are kept in place by a silicone band. To keep stockings securely in place all day long it is key to get a good suspender belt, ideally with metal clips (this is particularly important with high gloss stockings such as Gio's).
There is a selection of classic suspender belts available in the Other/Accessories category below.
  • Knee Highs & Socks, as the name suggests, knee highs stop just below the knee.
  • Other/Accessories, includes items from suspender belts (for holding up stockings) to hand cream.

  • What does denier mean?
Denier is the term used to describe how fine (sheer) hosiery is, the lower the denier the sheerer the product. The most popular denier range is 10-15 denier.
See Hosiery Advice - What Denier.

What colour? What denier? Matte or Shiny?
Look at - What Colour and How Shiny in the Hosiery Advice Section to find more information on choosing hosiery. If in doubt play safe and get a sheer (10 -20 denier) product which has a slight sheen in either a skintone or nearly black.

    What Size?
For a product to be comfortable it is important to get the right size. Unfortunately there is no standard sizing used for hosiery, so it is always necessary to look at the size chart for a product. The key to getting the right size is to choose the correct height from the size chart. If the person you are buying for is on the border of two sizes, go for the larger size. If there is more than one choice of size at the required height, just think if the recipient is very thin for her height, in which case get the smallest size available and vice versa.
For more information see Hosiery Advice - What Size?.

    Other tips
Generally, do not buy stockings as a gift unless you know the person you are buying for already has a suspender belt. However, if you would like to buy your loved one stockings, it might be best to pick up a suspender belt too, so she can wear them straight away.
There is a selection of good quality classic suspender belts available at MyTights.com in the Other/Accessories section.

Does your loved one often wear open toed shoes? If so buy hosiery that has a sandal toe or sheer toe.
